How to install PS4 System Software on new hard drive:
This procedure is for initializing your PS4™ system and performing a new installation of the system software, such as for when you replace the hard disk drive.
All data on the new hard drive will be deleted.
The following things are needed to perform the update:
PS4 system
USB stick with 1.2 GB of free space
On the USB storage device, create folders for the update file.
Create a folder named "PS4" and Inside that folder, create another folder named "UPDATE".
Download the update file, and save it in the "UPDATE" folder you created in step 1.

Turn off the PS4 console
Connect the USB stick to your PS4 console
The unit will start in 'Safe Mode'
Select [Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software)
Follow the steps on screen
If your PS4 console does not read the update file, check the folder and file names.

For the record, the file PUPDATE or whatever it's called for you needs to be in a folder called "UPDATE", that's in another folder called "PS4".

You can try cloning the HDD with a windows PC and cloning software. Good luck!
Hey i added a new hdd, formatted it to fat32 on pc and placed the update into the folders i created PS4>UPDATE on the hdd and placed it into the ps4. My ps4 still shows the same cannot access error.Pls help

Can I put in a ps4 original Hardrive in well that work fastech
so i have a question...i did an HDD upgrade and saved my old 500GB HD for a
later backup operation as I did not have a backup external drive at the
time...I bought one and put my old drive back into the machine to do
the backup but it won't start without a software update as it has an
older software version on it. I tried to do a software update only but
it wants a full re-install update which i fear will wipe all the data on
the original HD...is there a way to get the data backed up on the
original HD?

Fasttech I’m not very tech savvy. Is there a certain software I should use? Also, the hard drive has a kinda bubble look on the little disc for the hard drive, is that normal? Once I do clone it and install a new hard drive, do I just place my data on a file in the usb then just plug the usb into the ps4 slim and it transfers?
For the people in the comments, if you take the hard drive out and let it cool down with a fan and give a decent cleaning to the inside. That should save you from losing all your storage and having to buy another one. Turns out mine was just dusty and a bit over heated

This is entirely correct when that pop ups for me I just let it chill for like 15 mins then I’ll turn it back on and it’s good to go sometimes I’ll clean the dust off and that works fine

AlsoMighty264 Your PSN accounts dont get deleted. You can recover them by logging in on your PS4 after doing these steps.
yay just waste more money on a 3rd internal hard drive that my ps4 pro will most likely also fry to death during a ps4 hard freeze when i try to just browse the store. Sony is pathetic for having such an unstable os, and store that is literally dangerous af to even try to open

In very rare cases it could be because of a controller chip on the mainboard but never because of the power supply.

I dropped my slim while it was in the original packaging as I came home from a late night at a friends house, and I didn’t set it back up until I woke up. When I did it wouldn’t load and I saw this vid and was WORRIED. I took the hard drive out like you showed and it was pretty dirty so I cleaned everything up really gently and connected the hard drive again and thank the lord everything was cool after that! I appreciate the video still cause i wouldn’t have know off top of how to access the hard drive or if I needed info to get a new one. Hope this helps a fellow worried gamer. 👋🏻🍺

Yo got a question. I got the same error code. When I try to go to save mode, holding down the power button until I hear two beeps my ps4 turns off. But when I turn it on again it check storage and stays stuck at 24% and then takes me to safe mode and tells me to connect my controller. When I do it tells me to connect my usb with the update file. My question is, is it okay if I just simply go with the update file and let my ps4 update it. And 2 even if I do update it, will it ask me to initialise cuz dude I got so much saved up on my hard drive and I just don’t wanna lose it.

The file name must be only update without any numbers the download file (from today) adds a number 2 in the title that should be erased or it won't work

You will need a motherboard replacement.
@@fasttechvideo If you replace a motherboard then you need to replace the optic drive also, so technically is a new game console.
PS 4 mainboard is paired with the optic drive, you cannot change one without the other.
Now I just gotta buy a hard drive and Phillips screw and a computer (compute so I don’t lose my data) I think I honestly just lost my PS4 forever.
