imagine being a 13 year old kid in the 90's and being good at this game, and you find Reptile on accident.
Youd either be super excited and proud of yourself or shit yourself unprepared and pissed off
I wasn’t 13 but it happened and I beat him
I was 6-7 years old when I encountered him and obviously won because I had mastered the game and from that day on he's been my favorite but they have treated him like shit FCK Ed boon
I was actually 9 years old when this happened, although my older brother was the one who did it by accident, and he and I lost our shit lol
I’ve been there. That’s exactly what happened to me. Was super rare to find him and had no idea how..
I don't know if this was how the guy in the arcade I was playing unlocked Reptile more than 20 years ago but the double flawless on the pit is part of it. It was a really strange moment all of us that was not playing anything were watching it like it's a big moment in history. And it's still to this day one of the biggest moments in gaming history for me.
I nearly crapped my pants the 1st time i found Reptile while playing Mortal Kombat 1 in 1993... pity i was the only person in the store & NOBODY believed me when i told them about it & i had no clue how i managed to do it, so i obviously couldn't re-create it to prove it to my mates...
(This was before we had widespread internet in SouthAfrica, so i couldn't even search for it online to see if anybody else had come across this)
I know Im kinda randomly asking but do anybody know of a good website to watch new tv shows online?
@Arthur Remington flixportal xD
@Khari Nathanael thank you, I went there and it seems to work :) I appreciate it !
@Arthur Remington No problem :D
For those not understanding the moveset, the reason he was called reptile is because reptiles shapeshift. He can use all the ninjas moves.
And then he was made an actual reptile
Damn. All the ninja's moves? All 2 of them?
"Iz he seriouz...? He aint serioiz... He... Aint... Seriois." "Omgaud. oh my gaud he on x games modeah"
@@AtheistRajput He’s better as a human
@@NeoGamemaster Yep, ice ball and spear. Lot of moves I know.
the fact that reptile is the first secret character in fighting game history makes him a F'N legend
Ah, those memories. Long before cell phones & social media. Imagine what it must have been like seeing this mysterious character named Reptile randomly appear out of nowhere & then deciphering how to access him. What it must have been like to be out on a Friday night in 1992 at your local arcade, bowling alley, amusement park or whatever, surrounded by friends & getting to fight Reptile at the bottom of the Pit in MK1 after deciphering these mysterious clues. Truly a Generation X experience! So around here got to fulfill that? Share your stories. Perfection is the key👍
Oh boy old timer here is a D1 yapper 🙄
@@Sauerkraut404fr
if you weren't around the arcades at the time this game came out, you just don't understand how big this is in vg history
This happened to me at age 9. A few days earlier, I had accidentally discovered fatalities by accidentally ripping Sonya's head off with Sub Zero. I was hooked. I played every day after school. And then, out of nowhere, the green Ninja challenged me. (I believe I was Raiden). Fun times.
Bruh one time i had the shadows over the moon, i didnt know what they were i just thought they were cool easter eggs.
Damn son. 10 million points if you beat this guy? I don't play Mortal Kombat, but I would be so satisfied to get that many points at once!
And can you still fight the other bosses after you beat this guy? I don't know crap about this game.
Peja21000 You have to perform a fatality on him in order to get the points, though. :)
ThatOneDaxSter yep. It goes normally after you beat him.
Man I remember there being so much mystique behind this guy. Did he come before Akuma as secret character? Looking back now, it's amazing how they used the announcer voice for emperor Shao Kahn.
Since SSF2T was released in early 1994 and MK1 in 1992, Reptile must have been the first secret boss character in a fighting game.
@@blank5210 Source?
@@georgeliquor1236 reptile appeared in mk1 1992 and akuma appeared in 1994
@@hype5456 asking for a source has always been annoying.
As if these people are incapable of doing their own research
Isnt reptile the first secret character in general?
As a kid with friends we actually sat down and performed this step by step only on a RUMOR that it would even work. Reptile then became my favorite character.
Funny how he beheaded Scorpion out of the Reptile
What I do is this (Arcade perfect PlayStation 2 & PlayStation 3 ports)...
Do 3 VS (2 player) matches in a row (the 3rd should be at The Warrior Shrine).
At the end of the 3rd VS match, let the continue timer run out & then end up in 1 player mode (most likely at the 1st opponent) where the fight will be at The Pit.
If I don't see any shadows, I press Start on controller 2 to go back to 2 player mode where it's rinse & repeat (the 1st 2 player match will be at The Courtyard so again only 3 matches are necessary) until you see shadows fly across the moon at The Pit.
If you own the Sega Genesis and/or Sega CD versions of this game, enter the DULLARD code to activate the cheat menu & at least activate Flag #2 (flags are numbered 0-7, so it's technically the 3rd 1 down on the left hand side) so shadows will always fly across the moon at The Pit.
If you own the Super Nintendo version of this game, you simply just have to be at The Pit in 1 player mode (no need to wait for shadows).
But in all 3 of those home console versions, winning with a double flawless, no blocking & doing your character's fatality are still required.
Tank you
00:11 That is Santa Claus?
Yes. XD
Ah the days when video game secrets were so pure.
Back when reptile had Scorpion's name and Had Scorpion & subzero attacks
I've been trying to make him appear for weeks, but the freaking shadows over the moon wouldn't appear no matter how many times I tried! I never thought about letting the timer go down and start over until they do appear, it kinda makes sense since an arcade machine would remain turned on all day so maybe the game is programmed to increase the likelihood of the shadows appearing the more rounds were played, or something.
Anyway, now I'll try this out and see what happends.
You might of figured this out by now but the shadows appeared every 50 matches played
The SNES version at least made it easier to fight him. Just needed a double flawless on the pit and a fatality and not have to wait for shadows.
Reptile debuted as an npc opponent here. And in the story of MK 2011, he's your first opponent as Johnny Cage!
and also he is used as a jobber in every new game
@@pancytryna9378disgusting how dirty they did Reptile.
A lot of the details in this video are not necessary. most versions of Mortal Kombat 1 when you see the Shadows going across the moon on the pit stage you want to get a double flaws and finishing move. you can uppercut and get the stage fatality that will count as well. Not sure if it's okay to tap block. Definitely if you block a move it will take away health so no Flawless victory. The Shadows appearing are just random. Some arcade versions and I believe the Super Nintendo version allows you to get to reptile every time when you get to the pit without shadows going across the moon.
Yes do not tap Block.
@@getoverhere1225 I'm having issues performing fatalities. For instance, I always play as Sub-Zero and even though I get close to the opponent and do the move I either end up freezing them or punch them in the face. Any tips?
@@kayster9516make sure you stand right next to your opponent and tap forward, down, forward, High punch. if you're playing on a Home console check your button settings to make sure they're at default. make sure you're not doing a rolling motion with the d-pad that they're doing all taps only.
@kevin Leonard it is much more clear now, thanks a bunch! I've actually played the game again today, and I was able to pull off a couple of fatalities, it seems that I'm still doing something wrong though, because now when I don't perform the fatality I just punch the enemy in the face, I'm playing with the analogue stick on my Xbox One controller, and it's imprecise at times, I guess that might be the reason why...unless by tapping you mean pressing F, D, F, HP in quick sequence instead of rotating the stick from right to left to right again without interruptions.
So that explain why i was so easy to challenge Reptile in SNES version! Thanks bro!
When times were simpler.
Jumping thru hoops to get to a hidden character ... with an incorrectly titled name. Another palette swap. Didn't have his own moveset. Apes the other two ninjas. Only to be correctly named when defeated.

the good old age of darkness. You witness stuff, no one believes you. Unless you find an article about it in a gaming magazine xD
Love the intro
Before Chameleon,
there was "Scorptile".
I tried but never see a moon shadow. Maybe my version of MK1(rev 5.0 t unit) don't have it.
Reptile is like a fusion of Scorpion & Sub-Zero
one time I was fighting reptile in TV games before
I like mortal combat I play this game
Scorpion's fatality requires holding Block. Is he unable to reach Reptile?
This old game was cool sun zero was my favorite
Feliz 30 aniversario mortal Kombat
You dont have to time out on the pit. Can be any stage. It's very anoying, and will not work if in vs mode at the lit w flying kites and santa. Arcade that is. Apparently its every sixth game. Still trying.
UM......OKAY????I MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO DO THAT XD
Reptile replies 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
fighting reptile was better than beating the game.
No wonder why Reptile has 4 million views with the new MK1 trailer.
he was not reptile he was subpion
Or scorzero
Wait, I'm confused. It says play to the pit and tune out? How can you do that without going to vs mode. Will vs mode count of you keep doing vs mode then CPU on the pit? I tried than 10 times and it did not work. I'm so frustrated. Why did the jerk offs make this so complicated?
If you go to VS mode in case you're losing you have to do it all over again until you reach the Pit.
I beat him on the SNES
On my first try
Because the SNES does not have the Shadow
What i did:
Character: scorpion
1: double flawless
2: toasty fatality
3: pit stage
4: not blocked
5: defeat reptile
You dont need a double flawless you just need to score a certain amount of points
That is strange, when Johnny cage finished Reptile, his head had a yellow mask, what the
Harold Bellande Reptile is just a green scorpion. However his moveset was both scorpion’s and sub-zero’s in one.
If he didn’t exist in this game, Shang Tsung might finally have enough memory to be his own character instead of also shapeshifting
But Shang Tsung is so cool because of that, plus he got the skull attack.
But his name is scorpion and has sub zeros and scorpions powers?!
Yeah, oh well.
I've tried it once and twice when I was playing on Midway Arcade Treasure Extended Play on PSP but it didn't work
Remember about the shadows over the moon.
@@tonitoniversus you mean Santa Claus and his flying Raindeers? 0:02
@@Alex_T_Dragon Yes.
Reptile is the mixture of scorpion and subzero but he is different in MK2 3 and the rest.
Wait.... Was that Santa Claus riding his sleigh in the background????
Yep, haha.
Secrets in fighting games now: just a reskin fighter or a character skin. Secrets in fighting games in the 90s: green ninja with scorpion and sub zero moves that also moves quick
To be fair it was a joke in the early days of MK that a new character is basically a reskin of Scorp or Subzero
I think the version I'm playing on PSP doesn't have the option to fight Reptile.
I've played through, beginning to end about 15 times and still no sign of Santa flying in the sky. 😢
No psp tem sim, o correto é jogar 40 partida então na próxima the pit vai aparecer a sombra na lua
I always thought reptile was never in this game.I’m sure most people agree
Still trying to figure out why his name is still scorpion after the announcer said he’s reptile 😂
Why does it say Scorpion instead of Reptile? That seems pretty half assed considering how hard it is to get to this fight.
How to shadow coming moon? Can you tell me again
Just play through the game up to the Pit included a few times until you see them.
Jump kick master.
Director of the crazy
Reptile Characters like Crazy
Why the Sega CD sound at the end of the rounds?
IDK, perhaps to make it feel unique.
Why does it label him as Scorpion on the health bar? It should say Reptile shouldn't it?
I know. Development oversight maybe.
@@tonitoniversus could be. this must be arcade. It's just one of those things where you can only put so much data in to a game. Like not only did they seem to not have time to input his name but they also rushed making him because he doesn't have his own moves in this one. The way it looks to me like they just took the color palettes of scorpion & sub zero & made it green & then just mixed their powers together & they were just like ok this is a new character, the end. But this is the very first release so I mean we all make mistakes. I just find the origins of reptile really intriguing
Reptile was apparently secretly programmed in over the course of a single afternoon by Ed Boon. It was a bit of a rush job being he wanted to keep it a secret even from his co-workers.
From a data perspective Reptile doesn't technically even exist as a character in MK1. He's just an internal flag switch that tells the AI to swap Scorpion green and give him access to Sub-Zero's special moves when toggled on.
@@captainchrispy1407 It would be exciting if he had his moves in the later games, spitting acid, turning invisible and his head eating fatality think how many people would of shit themselves back in the day? ;)
It's not 10,000,000 points in this video, just one million. Midway goofed on the scoring.
Here's how: pause at 1:50 . The score is 46,670,000 points now. After time and strength bonuses are applied (at this point, resume play), the new score is 48,743,000 points. Shouldn't the new score be 57,743,000?
I can't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure it's legit, the additional 10 mil. score can only be seen after you start your next fight.
Alfredo Rodriguez no it shouldn't
in mortal kombat 2 you can now play as reptile (or shang tsung)
Vako Chitishvili both
Nah never ....
Both
Quick question how did you get this?
Says in the beginning of the video.
10,000,000 points, then you switch the Mega Drive off.
I found Easter egg santa riding Rudolph
The requirements to fight me are
Double flawless without blocking only using special moves.
You must wait for Dan forden to pop in and say toasty.
Press the first 4 buttons of the Konami code when he says toasty.
You can press block but you cant take damage. Blocking attacks means taking small damage and ruining your flawless and that's why it says dont block. Hitting block alone doesnt ruin your chance to fight smoke. Sorry but you dont know what you're talking about, pal
Funny how just naming this "Mortal Kombat 1" is def going to get it a million times more traffic
Yeah lol
Enter mortal combat 2. Enter options.scroll all the way down.enter this code. Left down left right down right left left right right. That now opens test mode, a set of cheats throughout the game
1:25 pause the vid why is is reptile scorpion
i cant see what's is your problem?
@M Salahuddin Ayyubi thx bro
Why does it say scorpion in reptile's life meter?
Time constraints! LOL.
Luckily, that was corrected in the home ports.
That was easy for me in Sega genesis, I learned how.
And I didn't beat him because he kept on hitting.
And I got him.
The three moon shadows I've spotted on different playthroughs are Santa's sleigh, Peter Pan and the Darling children, and a witch on a broomstick. Are there any others anyone has seen?
Can't remember others.
Can you also do player 2 with this
I don't think...
Oh okay
Does anybody remember how to knock somebody into the pit and make them stick on the pillars on the way down please help
Um...uppercut when the announcer says Finish Him/Her.
DrewTony'Z I know there's a way to make them stick on the pillars where the spikes come out before they hit the ground we're all the other dead bodies are hanging
Justin Haupt eh, that can't be done tho. Lool. But that woulda been a great idea!
Commander Rex328 dude I swear to God I remember doing this on Sega
huh? might be false memory, itll cause a "Mandela Effect" which means something that many people think is true but is false. you might be talking about a certain glitch that in which you low punch someone then uppercut a little away from them and then after that do sub zero's fatility [right down right punch] and he uppercuts you then the other person's sprites are jammed and they hit the spikes and they are stuck in the jump pose in mid air
Hey! If you get a doubless flawless victory without no block and do the fatality ( in pit stage ) you will get too
Well, this is what the video says.
1:49
That wasn't reptile that was Chameleon.
A coisa mais, nd à ver q, eu já vi do Reptile, nesse jogo é, ele tbm se chamar Scorpion, e ter as magías, dos 2 ninjas e n as dele, como no MK2.
Ainda não havia um reptile pronto
I guess I'm not seeing it but what do you mean different shadows passing the moon. They all looked the same to me.
thats not reptile its scorpion mixet with sub zerw
it's not fake
0:55 OUCH
You have epilipsey?
At arcade he is *Scorpion* ?
Nah, still Reptile but they forgot to change the name, haha.
why does it say scorpion for his name?!
Cutting expenses in '91 lol.
It says "Skotpion" but he plays like Sub Zero 🤔 also how would people figure out how to do this
He has both Scorpion and Sub Zero's Special Moves. Guess smart peeps are out there.
@@tonitoniversus i guess I'm not he the sharpest knife in the drawer.
@@Ridley_Lockhart Yeah, me neither.

¿por que se llama Scorpion y no Reptile?
No lo se, creo que los creatores de MK fueren perezosos.
Jaja.
So hard to fight with reptile
Select Characters (Also Sub Zero) Freeze It and slice reptile
Oh yeah!, its true; Reptile is secret character on Mortal Kombat 1; and instead on MK2 the secret character was Smoke and Kintaro was not a secret character, but he appeared on Shang Tsung's fatality, holding or blocking a key for the entire 2nd Round.
Nowadays the only thing you need is a credit card to buy the DLC...
