Kungfu Shiba or ninja Shiba? 🤣😂
You should dress up as a maid, all males and specially Japanese are weak to maids :)

Maybe simple small steps of grooming training would help.
But it must be behavior training and not circus do tricks training.
@@antiheldd.3081 really strange suggestion?
Huskies now have competition in the dramatic dog department.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Difference is that huskies think they're about to die, Shibas are out to make everything else die
Huskies don't seem to go on the attack!
I would say Huskies, Corgis, Shiba Inus and Chihuahua are some of the most drama queen dogs.
Husky plays victim for drama, Shiba plays villain.
In order to understand the Shiba, you must become the Shiba.

The funniest thing about Shiba Inus, in my opinion, is their inclination NOT to be outright aggressive, but make sure the world knows how upset they are.
The ol “bitch but do nothing”.
Kinda like huskies?
Very passive, but very aggressive :D
Mines outright aggressive

Gotta uphold the Shiba reputation
"You have to understand I have a reputation to keep up"
I think the worst thing about Shiba's is that they are unfortunately a very trendy meme dog. And a ton of people who own them have never owned a dog before and this is a breed that requires A LOT of experience to manage because of how stubborn and independent they are.
They aren't independent dogs. That's a myth. They love cuddles, and being with people. They are stubborn though. I do as I choose is their mantra.
GOOD point! It certainly adds to the ongoing issue of people not doing their own research of a particular breed and their tendencies before making the purchase. I think social media has perpetuated a lot of that unfortunately, like you said with the shiba inu recognized as the ‘meme dog’. I agree that they are pretty independent (borderline standoffish and that’s totally fine). I work as a kennel tech and every single one I’ve worked with has been like this. Not misbehaving or anything, just… a polite “fuck off” attitude lol
@@RozanneMiller not independent? speaking for mine, that couldn’t be more wrong. if you have one and they are all cuddles, consider yourself lucky. they need no one. love them to death, but not independent is laughable 😂
And aggressive.. It takes a LOT of training and a very highly skilled person to train the natural aggression out of those dogs
True. They're popular with hipster turds.

It was hilarious how mild mannered he was AFTER the grooming, taking his treats like a gentledogman.

He would cry and shout, as if he was murdered at the vets, but as soon as he was off the treatment table, he was best friends with the vet again and calm as a cucumber.

One thing I have heard a lot about Shiba’s are they are one person dogs. They tend to only like their parent, sometimes even just one person in their home.

as a Shiba owner, these dogs require a lot of attention, time and training. We trained ours very well and he doesn't mind being washed and even voluntarily goes swimming at the beach or in lakes and he loves sailing trips (as he usually gets to swim). So fear of water is definitely something that can be trained out of them, however it's easier if you start while they're still young.
Trust me, it has nothing to do with water.
Yeah... If you want an easy dog... you want a dumb dog. Shiba inus are smart. Too smart. They will test you every chance they get.

His aggression was directed at the dryer or water nozzle and not at our girl specifically. I think she made the right call to put the muzzle back on. I hope his fur parents put in the work to help him overcome his sensory challenges.
Theoretically, would bathing him in the tub like how Vanessa bathes cats work?
@@chilibreath Cats don't typically resort to aggression when it comes to being bathed but are rather very scared and want to gtfo as soon as possible by jumping all over the place so I'm not sure it would work as water is still involved and attacking is his main defense of choice.

Shibas are for ppl who don’t have enough drama in their life
0:43 cutest part
Ah, this is why you start them young and be consistent and fair with training. I was grinding my shibas nails everyday as a pup and bathing twice a month for training purposes. She tolerates grooming extremely well. Not a breed for everyone if your not willing to put the work in. This guy is such a cutie 🥹
Mine was started at 12 weeks with desensitizing, the whole thing. I eventually had to take him to a behavioral vet and start medications. Breeding is a huge part of it.
doing their nails daily is way too much and bathing them twice a month is useless if you don’t plan on actually bathing them twice a month for the rest of their life. we know u don’t actually own a dog ❤ it’s ok
@@misseselise3864 daily just to get them used to it, as with a grinder you dont even have to touch the nail to get them used to it, and no you dont have to keep bathing every two weeks for the rest of their life. only until theyre okay with it.

@@misseselise3864
You have trouble reading English. When someone says “for training . . .” What that means is a temporary thing done for “TEACHING” purposes. You know, something you have never had.
this is true for every breed, wished ppl would stop getting pets if they are NOT willing to train them, esp socializing training. these aren't toys, they are living creatures that can become very dangerous within seconds if not trained properly.
The first time I took my shiba to the groomers she was already 5 years old and had gone blind from glaucoma. I assumed she would give them trouble but I heard nothing but good things about how sweet and calm she was. So proud of my baby.
I had a female cream colored Shiba Inu growing up. Lived to be 15. My mom used to feed her normal food that people would eat. She went blind and had dementia around 13 years old. She could get even worse than the one in this video but my mom adored her. Lol They really are super independent and it's not for everyone to own.
@@wombat5252 Had old dogs suffer dementia. It’s so hard + draining to see them in that state cause u just want them to be comfortable. I had a dog that got to 22.5. I bathe my own shiba and she’s actually relatively tame. The zoomies afterwards as she dries off are something that’s unmatched lol, zoomies x100 💀
I can believe that. XD
My shibe is also chill when it comes to bathing but I can only use a diamond file for his nails, clipping is off the table ⚠️ And yes, zoomies afterwards are always worth it 🥰

I remember seeing a Shiba Inu at the park once who was misbehaving, the owner was trying to get the attention of the dog and it just wasn't having it, finally she snapped and shouted very angrily "I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF YOU!" pointing at the dog, that is the only time I've seen a Shiba Inu do as it was told, the look on this dogs face was like a naughty child who had just been told their Gameboy was going in the bin.

My shiba didn't mind as I got the temp (luke warm) and didn't put water directly on his face and use a wet towel instead.
I love how you talk to the dogs like they are people.
Dogs can "understand" us, maybe not literally but the tone and the facial expressions can tell a lot to the dog already.
@@guilhermehank4938 I think some must be able to truly understand some words in any tone... Most of the common swear words I'm not able to use at home because my dog is scared of them. Whether they're whispered to myself from another room, or said with joy or excitement or laughter; it's always had the same sad result of a very frightened girl who sneaks out of the house very very quietly and goes to hide in the bushes in the garden. :( (Don't worry, I have never sworn at her. She was a rescue.)
So I have to say silly ones like "jiminy cricket" and "fiddlesticks"... A big, tall, bearded dude, home alone with a 'scary' (not at all scary) black german shepherd, saying "fiddlesticks" in quiet agony to himself because he got chilli in his eye or closed a drawer/door with a finger still in the way. Or spilled a cup or uncooked rice behind the oven. 😑
Sometimes, it feels ridiculous. In a funny way. Like if somebody overheard me they'd think I was weird for not using proper swear words.
But she isn't afraid of the kid-friendly substitute words. So it works! ☺
...it's hard to remember to use them when something is funny or exciting though. There isn't a good, punchy replacement for "that's fucking awesome!" which still feels authentic.
@@Roman-hg6rg They obviously dont know the literal meaning of words but they associate them with stuff. Just like they learn commands, they learn the meaning of other words too. If the dog learns what the word "treat" means then youre in for a treat.
Your dog is a rescue and I, the armchair dog psychologist, assume the swear words are linked to her past. People frequently curse animals out (or sadly do worse things) and the animals are of course emotionally damaged because of that. Just like some people shouldnt be parents, they also shouldnt have animals.
I loved how he turned to scream at her right after she told him he was a "good boy."

As a parent of two Shiba Inus I’ve been waiting for this video since I’ve found your channel.
You missed recording the best part - The dreaded “Shiba Scream”. When we take ours to the pet wash to bathe them we have to warn everyone and tell them that we are not murdering our dogs.
My little girl is sweet and loving but gets quite vocal when that water comes on.
Everyone who works there knows “The song of her people”
Absolutely!! My parents have had that conversation with strangers so often! Reassuring people that you are not hurting your dog and that they are just voicing their displeasure is part of having a Shiba! 🤣
So true...there was a time I tried to blow dry my Shiba in the yard to avoid the bathroom being covered by dog hair. He screamed so dramatically that my neighbours went out and checked if everything is okay🤦♀
When ours was a baby he would scream like we were skinning him every time we picked him up. He grew out of that, but it is still pretty intense when something scares him (a stuck poop gets pretty nuts)
I just groom my own shibas but for me the vet is hell. They hate the vet after being fixed… before being fixed they tolerated it as a puppy.
Sort of like huskies, huh?
I’ve had my Shiba for about six months now, I’m glad she’s not aggressive towards people or veterinarians. She’s very loving and sweet so I think I really lucked out with her lol

You are so aware and patient, its really cool to watch your videos.
Keep up the great work!
I have a shiba who actually LOVES being groomed. His groomer always shows him off to her coworkers because he happy dances when you blow dry him.
should have named him Vegeta.
Or Kakarot considering Goku had a similar personality when he was a baby
As a Shiba owner I can relate to some of the little protests in this, pulling paws, stressing a little and dropping the tail. My shiba was showered since he was a pup, we clean expecially his paws often and he doesn’t like it but accepts that it has to be done. Never had him screaming or growling, so I think this is more a lack of exposure and not being consitent in what you expect from the dog. He does look like a cutie tho so hope they get him used to it ❤️
Proper upbringing and training makes a huge difference.
You have taught your dog that cleaning his paws is safe and thus ok. That's the difference.
The owners of Goku will have to pay for some proper training to get him to accept bathing.
Are Shibas notorious for getting into dirt? Like no mudd puddle or pile of horse manure is safe? I'm reading the comments and wondering why they need to be bathed all the time..
Shibas need a lot of brushing, but rarely need bathing.
@@eva-w mine will jump over any puddle it can and dodge mud at all costs. In the fall and early winter before it freezes it is impossible for him to dodge it all so it is a seasonal thing. We also live in an appartment without a proper hallway so rinsing off his paws so he is allowed on furniture is a must for us. We live in Norway and most our walks are in forests and on gravel, not on roads.
Generally the Shibas coat is very selfcleaning and a lot of dirt and stuff will fall off, but when it’s really soaked outside it doesn’t all fall off☺️

It's like Shiba Inu is Huskie's and Chihuahua's mixed distant relative all the way from East. An ultimate vocal ball of sass and nerves! ✨😈💕
They're all considered "primitive breeds" who are closer to their semi-domesticated ancesters. And they probably are related; huskies and Teichichi dogs are believed to descended from dogs northeast Asian nomads brought with them when they crossed the Bering land bridge to colonize America. Or at least that's what I've read.

“Strong-willed and very stubborn” perfectly describes my corgi. He is cute as a button until he gets to the groomer or the vet, then he turns into Cujo.
The can be really good with enough desensitization at home. Mine loves the groomer. Or people in general. He goes 4 times a year.
IDK why, my heart goes out to these primal type breeds. I'm a groomer, and my favorite clients are these guys. And I just want to add, you're info about grooming is so spot on! Thanks for sharing the behind the scenes, it's very educational!
I started taking my shiba to the groomer at 16weeks 😂 the groomers were VERY appreciative i started her early. So far they say no shiba tantrums or screaming after a year
Ah yes, the Shiba scream and bath time. When we got a Shiba I had to always have our well behaved german shepherd go first, with the Shiba in the bathroom so he could see what was expected. Then the shepherd had to stay in the bathroom when it was the Shibas turn for a bath. If the German shepherd wasn’t in there, I was dealing with that from the video. He got used to it enough that he’d mostly stand through bath time without issues, as long as he got lots of praises!
Shibas are cats in dog bodies, strong willed, fickle, independent, but also very loyal once you earn their trust!
Goku is just like all my shiba inus. Had the cops called on me since they cry, growl and bark when bathing and drying them. Gotta love Shibas hee hee.
All I heard was "Kame-hame-ha!" for every barking fit. lol He was just powering up for his special cuddle attack. Remember, gotta save face. Can't let the enemy know how cuddly he is.
a friend who had a shiba inu once mentioned to me they're very cat-like. That makes a lot of sense with how you described them,"does not do what he doesn't want to", a trait cats are notorious for! Beautiful dog, either way
Also, as a cat in dog body, Shiba relatively clean, they love to groom themselves like a cat. Sooo yeah, while they still need professional groomer, at least they can do some of the job their own
They are SUPER cat-like, esp in that most want to be near you, but are sort of aloof and not super cuddly, and that they groom themselves obsessively, so as long as you can get them to let you brush them routinely (they shed CONSTANTLY), they don't really need a whole lot of grooming.
hahahaha!!! i like the fact that they decided to name a dog goku!! it's very accurate!! 😂🤣
and "grouchy goku" sounds perfect too. thank you for making this video.
One of my cousin's used to breed these. One was all show champion and his stud fees were very high. He was also insured for I think about 40k Australian dollars.
I own a 13 year old shiba, who is a CGC. No attacks while grooming except to my ear drums as she screams bloody murder (she is convinced she is dying every time). Remember to start training the moment you get a shiba, lest they become hellspawn
As a owner of 2 Shibas (and more in the past) I have some recommendations for those considering this cat in a dogs body breed. As a puppy, day one when you get them, touch their feet. I’m talking hold their paw and tickle those toe beans. EVERYDAY. Reward for good behavior meaning no pulling or snarling. Introduce a brush, several brush types early. Water introduction can be difficult as both my Shibas will gladly run into a puddle or ocean surf but bath time they can get vocal. Again small steps and lots of positive encouragement. Did I mention touching their paws everyday? Both our current Shibas get their nails dremeled at home with no fuss or screaming, handle the velocity dryer like it’s a itch that it can’t quite get, and brushing is tolerable for about 15 minutes. I invested in one of those nifty nozzles that allows soap and it’s made things a breeze.
I call it the full dog daily massage, as I rub them down looking for and lumps or bumps or random plant matter that hitched a ride, ending with a toe touch. Yes Shibas are dramatic and screamers and will fight you over dumb things, but YOU as a owner can make things better for the groomers or vets in the long run with basic everyday training and positive reinforcement. Touch those toes!
Yeah I've a friend who has a Shiba (as her first dog) and it's the most well behaved dog. Friendly to cats, dogs, friendly to many people, lets people handle him and dress him up for pictures.
Only thing her dog can't stand.. is other dogs with poor manners. lol
So clearly either she got a gem of a dog either they're just very trainable if you start young as you say.
@@Avatinfernus They can be absolute stubborn logs when they want to be, mine will lay down right in the middle of a walk if we don't go the way THEY want to go. Also they are kinda snobbish, I have seen them give the side eye or ignore people trying to fawn over them. But absolutely you must start early with them. I see many youtube videos of screaming shibas and so much of it is lack of training and exposure. So just give them a little bit everyday, this goes for any dog (or cat) honestly

You can't tell chow by looking at her, but she totally has the personality. 😆 I had read that chows are very cat like and as a previous cat owner, I can confirm this is true. She is a velcro dog, but yet fiercely independent. She tolerates hugs from her people and is the fun police whenever people or other animals are playing together (thanks to the herding genes!).

Lot of terrible owners, unfortunately.
Everything is calmer in Japan.
A lot of Western owners get them just because they're a "meme" dog, not understanding how stubborn they are and how mental they can be without firm training
Japanese youtube groomers definitely don't all feature well-behaved shibas. They often agree about the dislike for grooming.
It would be interesting to find someone in the states who bought one from a modern Japan line. We like to think any dog is salvageable but we can't disregard the genetic components of behavior and personality.
I’ve been waiting for a Shiba Inu Groom! So excited to finally see one! I really want to get one and am serious about it, so I’ve been doing research and watching videos so I know exactly what to expect, good and bad. And grooming was one area I wanted to see more of, so to have it be done by my favourite grooming channel is amazing!
Edit: Thank you to people commenting suggestions, advice and stories of their own Shibas. It’s so sweet to hear, not to mention very helpful in my knowledge quest before getting a Shiba. 🥰
If you are really serious about getting a Shiba, talk with as many Shiba breeders and rescue groups as you can to learn about the breed. They are amazing little dogs but require a very specific type of owner. Good luck!!
I have 2 Shiba's mine do not act like the one in this video. Liberty the one in my pic will not let my family pick her up or try to move her bathing tho she doesn't scream or anything will try and run from it but will tolerate a bath. Stryker doesn't like to be bathed but will tolerate it. I love this breed like all dogs they need to be worked with. They can be amazing wonderful family members with the right person. There's a lot of Facebook groups for Shiba's. If you're in Washington Oregon area there's a group called Pacific Northwest Shiba's
with shibas you should always expect the unexpected
@@lasgsd1 Thank you for the advice! I really appreciate it :)
@@Babs-Veterans-are-Family Thank you for sharing about your Shibas :). I sadly don’t live in Washington, but I’ll see if I cant reach out to someone! I want to learn as much as I can before getting the breed and try and be as prepared as possible, since I know there are people out there that get Shibas because of their looks and infamy on the internet.
So this is the real Ultra Instinct!
He is so dear and sweet afterwards lol! Beautiful dog!
Why do they all think the blow-dryer is the destroyer of canines
Wowsers, first time Shiba on the channel, and now I can see why! Goku's a bit grouchy, but he has a smile like no other.
A lot of groomers refuse to groom Shibas for all the reasons shown above.
Goku is definitely living up to his name.
I've been waiting so long for you to groom a Shiba, and it went exactly as I expected.
Aww the Shiba Inu that frequents my local dog park is called Yoshi, but Goku is such a good name for one too.
Yoshi is such an adorable name
Goku is an awesome name.
@@salijayehinsen2892 what about Yamcha lmao
@@mr.patriotjol yeah. The only DBZ character I know is Goku
@@salijayehinsen2892 watch the series, it good lmao And by that i mean DB, DBZ, Super and i guess GT
I love how still in the end, you 2 made peace. Ah, the power of the treat💜
The fact that they gave their Shiba an anime name makes me think they only got this Shiba Inu for the meme points sadly. I hope this dog does not end up in a shelter after the "hype" wears off.
He just needed a hug.
My shiba is perhaps the rare exception where he is not a drama queen in his baths or blow drying his fur. He actually loves it 😂. Now his nails is a different story. He is vocal but still manageable to get them trimmed.
I got lucky 🍀 with my pup as mentally I was ready for a screamer when I first got him. 😂😂😂.
Mine is the opposite, he LOVES getting his nails trimmed and his teeth brush. He gets so excited! He doesn’t like baths though. He’ll let me bathe him with some protest and as long as he can put his head on my lap he’s okay.
Oh he looks so sweet. He did shake hands though at least that was good. You're very kind and patient 🤠🐕🐾🐾
The way he was barking at the vacuum dryer got me hahaha
God bless you for your patience 🙏
Definitely not a first timer's breed. Very funny and full of personality they are, but also very demanding.
What a handsome boy, but, wow, they sure are a headstrong breed! We nearly got one, but they told us you can't let them off the leash. Like....ev-er! You did a great job! 🙂
Only the best breeders will tell you this truth. As well trained as you think you've trained them only an emotionally abused shiba would choose to follow orders rather than do as it wanted if it saw something out of the ordinary. My two are always on lead. except in the garden and the paddock. At the paddock, I always book the last slot because I know one or other of them will have me running around like a clown on acid trying to get them back into the car.

@@RozanneMiller 😂😂😂
Yeah, unfortunately that is a 100% must. They are the most wonderful dogs, but their prey drive is SUPER strong and they will bolt. That isn't to say EVERY shibe will bolt, and that you can't train them out of it, but I just don't want to train Teddy's amazing, quirky personality out of him, so he just stays on leash unless in my yard or at the dog park! :)
thank you for this. this has helped me a lot.
I've seen maybe 4 videos of Shibas being well-behaved for grooming. Surprised there wasn't more Shiba screams in this video.
My Shiba's are great they don't like the dryer not thrilled with bathing but tolerate it when they're done with you brushing them they're done they walk away
@@Babs-Veterans-are-Family They are renowned for being difficult for grooming . Maybe yours are good, but you definitely aren't sharing videos of them behaving for the world. 😉🙂
Depends really independent dogs are more difficult naturally. Mine loves to go limp and make things really difficult doing that. They don't all scream.
@@charminglady2011 shiba screams are notorious for a reason.
I was waiting for a Shiba Inu to be groomed on this channel and the results are exactly as expected.
That shows you are very patient
