    Have you ever had a false negative? I have a 1881 Morgan CC that looks legit with the magnet, weight, and ping tests. Experts have even looked at it and said it's legit. But on the original sigma, with it set to pre 1900 90% silver, it's one block inside the brackets on one side, but one side outside the brackets on the other side. Ever seen anything like that?

    I have a gold 1/4 oz Libertad that doesn't pass using The Sigma OG using the wand. It's not my machine because I've tested hundreds of coins and triple checked them on different days and they've all passed. I'm hoping to get it tested by a XRP machine so I can see why it's not coming up as .999 pure fine gold. I've done some research and a few articles say the it could be because they're contaminated by other metals and not pure. It can still be gold though. Play it safe and buy a machine so you can have peace of mind. Luckily my seller has guaranteed a refund.

Especially online, the regular PMV is all i need correct..? I see some are testing on video as they fill an order to prove they are sending a good product.. Or is there a better way to not have the buyer make false claims you ripped him off.??

    • @SilverSeeker

      Yes, and I even said that in the video. Pinger however does secure the coin better... I can't tell you how many times I dropped a silver eagle that I was balancing on my finger. The pinger holds it much more securely.

    If all committed bullion buyers got serious about assaying all their purchases, all dealers would have to properly review their buy-backs and the community would get rid of most of the issue of fakes. Maybe then instead of producing fakes, the fakers would move into the production of much cheaper bullion testing devices given market demand.

    Right about 14:00 you said, "Now we can't, obviously, test silver eagles on this." What does that mean? I'd say it's not obvious at all why you wouldn't be able to test silver eagles and not obvious why I would want a tester that wouldn't test silver eagles. You've tested some of the fakes so quickly and inconsistently from the tests you said were obvious passes that you've made me far less likely to buy one. I have already asked my dealer to get one of the pros for me but you've just about convinced me to cancel.
    For instance, more than once, you said some coin or another passed some test so it's obviously good and no need to test further. On the other hand, and in other places, you said always run every test and, yet in some cases, you accept or reject based on a single test.
    Additionally, other UA-camrs I have watched on these testers, or other testing methods, don't suggest making any final decisions based on these testers but, instead, follow up with additional testing. I wouldn't want to keep something that was fake or to mistakenly toss something that was precious. For instance, in one case you show a fake coin that has the rating cursor just outside of the brackets on the original and you said, it's obviously fake because the cursor is outside the brackets so toss it. Then, in another case, you show a good coin that is just into the yellow on the pro and said that it's clearly good even though it's outside of the green so keep it.
    I've seen videos where valuable silver didn't, at least according to the Sigma tester, live up to the advertised promise of purity but were still legit and valuable, such as perhaps 80% silver instead of 90% so the indicator is out of range. If you get a coin just out of range (and totally off screen might still be less than a few percentage points of purity as indicated by the testing results of Sterling silver versus pure silver) then further data is needed to determine just how much precious metal, if any, is actually in the coin. That data might come from other tests you indicate, such as size, volume, density, or ping tests, or beyond. You can be sure I'm doing a drill test or a chemical test, or something that gives an absolute answer before tossing a $2500 gold coin that might show up bad on the Sigma.
    I'd love to see you do another video, testing each coin, good and bad, thoroughly and consistently, perhaps forming some opinions or recognizing potential risks before all the testing is done but not making any judgments of good or bad until all of the data is in, then showing the data and then making your personal assessment based on that data. That would be very useful to people like me considering the Sigma testers and even to your partner, Sigma, as a more proper set of testing, results, and data driven decision making, would let people make better decisions on the purchase of the Sigma tester.
    I can except limitations on the reliability and accuracy of a tester and process as long as I know exactly what those limitations are. But, as for now, your video, because of the inconsistent testing and inconsistent application of the data, does more to raise questions about the reliability of the Sigma testers and the process for using them than it does to answer questions.

    • @SilverSeeker
      @SilverSeeker  Рік тому +1

      at 14:00 I meant to say Gold Eagles and what I meant was that it was set to PURE Gold, so testing Gold Eagles on that settings would say they're fake because Gold Eagles aren't pure Gold. Good catch on me mis-speaking though. I've done videos since then using the Sigma, but I'll just say that if the coins test correctly on both the sensor AND dimensions it's always been right for me. I've never had a fake coin that could pass both the sensor AND the dimensions test at the same time. I'm not saying they don't exist, but it's never happened to me.

    In doing more research, I found this that appears to backup with data the idea that the pro version, along with weight and size measures, might be completely reliable. It's a 5 year-old video about a beta model of the product so I'm still researching. Apparently there are copper alloys (I'm sure you and most of your viewers know this) that very closely match gold for conductivity and fool the best of testers, including XRF testers. The pro version, according to this video, when coupled also with density testing (size and weight), catches these fakes. I hope that is backed up with further reading I'll do.
    Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/E0De1GtrW2I/v-deo.html
    One funny thing I read was someone trusting a tester because it catches all the easy fakes. It seems that there is no such thing as a difficult fake today, with the full weight of some communist governments and very cheap labor in those countries behind the effort to make simple fake methods that weren't practical just a few years ago. Maybe I should just go for minimum premium in all PM purchases and plan on destructive testing but it's hard to get a refund on a bar with a drill hole in it.
