  • Jack the signalman was the assistant of one James "Jumper" Wide after Wide lost his legs in an accident. Jack assisted James with various tasks, including his signalman duties. Also, Jack was a baboon. Probably should have led with that.

Loving the fact that the railway came out to observe Jack and once happy that he didn't make mistakes paid him a salary.

"We named the Monkey Jack" also if anyone wants to watch another video about this, there's a video by Hyce here on UA-cam about this story.

I love that you finally did this story. I've been waiting since I saw it on the 3/4 show, featuring the 3 different people that together make 3/4 of one idiot, who're desperately searching for that final piece. I'm hoping Lawrie from LMM makes an appearance, with all his British properness.

Our railroads were just… unique. We also had a form of rail passes between stops. But because the trains needed to meet deadlines. Instead of stopping and getting off the train, the engineer and signalman would exchange passes while the train was moving at full speed. I can’t exactly remember the fact so well but I believe there is a video or two mentioning it.

Jack reminds me of voytek the bear. He carried artillery and supplies with the polish army in ww2 and was eventually enlisted. And all he wanted was beer and cigarettes in return lol

This entire video is a reference. The baboon was named Jack, and Darkness said he was capable of being described as a monkey. (Begin the theme for Pirates of the Caribbean)
