It’s very fortunate that you were able to catch this unusual relic before it was taken out of service! Awesome job, Eric! I remember seeing some of the semaphores in some of the right hand curves while riding the SWC in 2011. Such a breathtaking route!
Eric....I've made that very trip between La Junta and Trinidad...Delhi with the engine of the car off and the snow capped rockies in the background...was the most quiet place I have ever experienced on earth. As you say...literally the middle of nowhere. Wasn't able to pace the Chiefs back then( mid 80's)...but on a subsequent trip in the 00's followed part of the route from Vaughn, NM to Clovis then east back to Georgia...alas...no more blades 'cept in museums!Great pacing footage you shot!
It's been a minute since I've seen any Amtrak train ride the rails faster than 60 mph.... so this is pretty neat to see! If the engineer got the open space and rails to go 78 mph, then why the heckins not?! Haha! 🏁
Very. Only ones that are active on a mainline in the entire US. The Wig Wag as stated has already been replaced, but there are a few remaining semaphores still standing.
Awesome job catching those relics!

They can go 90 in the Midwest along the BNSF Southern Transcon!
@@ericsturniolo What about UP tracks?
Those signals are cool
Indeed they are!
@@ericsturniolo how rare are they? Those ones that are being replaced

the amtrack is his intro on some videos i love it
Cool
Do the semaphores work with wire rope hoists that are set via levers or via a track contact? Great video :) Greetings from Germany :)
Everything is by contact. Thanks for watching! :)
Delhi wig wag is LONG gone. And that Amtrak is now only a few times per week (not daily). Thanks COVID
