I got my Polydryer and extra box this week, and TBH I am dissapointed. The hygrometers are all over the place, and after numerous sessions i cant get the boxes with PETG to go below 25% humudity, swapping the hygrometers also makes it seem the readout is completely random. I have seen reviewers mention that Polymaker made adjustment to the stickers to have them not bubble up, but after 2 days of use my unit is showing that exact "defect". Is 3dJake selling old stock maybe?
Similar temperatures like I measured. I agree, that it should go a little bit higher for PA. It can dry nylon on this temperature too, but it needs much longer drying time. I think you mentioned a link for color changing silica gel, I can't find it in your description.
$30 for the box is pretty reasonable. I did the DYI cereal box a few years ago and by the time I got the box, roller, hygrometer and desiccant I was $25 into it and it didn't even seal all that well.
I made 6 for a total of $60. Even accounting for time it is still a much better option than $30 each. Mine also seal fine and hold around 10% humidity.

Polymaker is one of those companies where I'm not sure the higher price really deters me...they have been very supportive of the 3D printing community and make quality products. I wouldn't use a large number of the boxes for filament storage (the large, airtight plastic tote I got from Amazon for $25ish holds many kilos and has a sealed, rechargeable, indicating silica gel EvaDry unit rolling around inside) but the dryer does beat the Sovol dryer I got bundled with my SV06 Plus in features including max temperature.
I've gone with the PrintDry boxes for storage as about $12.50 each. $30 each is WAY to expensive. Why no thermostat? With the heater they use, they control the power with the fan speed. No thermostat to worry about but not very precise. Probably OK for a dryer box. I have almost 100 storage boxes, so $3000 for storage? I don't think so. That is more than the filament in them.
I just don’t see this as viable option for long term storage. $29 to store a $13 spool! As another commentator said, A big airtight totes with desiccant is more economical. I have two big Yeti coolers that I use. If my fridge/freezer fails I’ll dump out the filament and save my food. Then dry it two at a time in my EBIOS.
Thanks for the video. This was super helpful. I just received mine yesterday and it appears that they took your advice into account and they have replaced the blue desiccant with orange desiccant. The question I have for you is how much air movement comes off the fans for you? I guess maybe measured in CFM, I noticed on my unit that the air movement is barely noticeable and I have a lot of moisture buildup inside of my dry box while it’s running. Not sure if I got a bad unit or not, but the air movement seems barely adequate.
I feel the same way. I contacted polymaker and actually got a free replacement base and still feel like the air flow is lacking. Also can't get the moisture level below 35 while running.
Poly started with the unheated dryboxes for 180 bucks or something right?. This is a improvement. Too bad its aliexpress hygrometers and a simple ptc heater with thermalcutoffs. Ptc is fine but it sucks they use the cheap crap hygrometers.
It seems a tad high, but I bought one and the quality is definitely there to warrant a premium price. I'm sure we will see cheaper alternatives out there in the future, but you do get what you pay for more often than not.
The fan inside it looked pretty standard. Maybe a 40x25/20? Noctua has 4020 fans, so maybe a fun little project for one with this dryer to switch the fan for a noctua? Because imo 52dB is pretty bad for a dryer.

It's amusing that the cobalt chloride is only carcinogenic if you eat it, because I don't think that's your biggest concern if you're eating it SuperVinlin Completely with you on the cost thing though; I'd love do you get some of these for their convenience, but aside from the fact I can't afford them at the moment, I would find it hard to justify the cost even if I could.. would be nice if they at least had a buy in bulk option like you mentioned
Yesterday I uploaded my 3D printable version of this box. If you use a cheap filament you can save a little bit of money per box. However, my intention was to improve a few features that are missing on the original or that I don't like. For example, to make the box stackable or to replace the very tight closure with a better one. All in all, I like the option of being able to simply place the box on the dryer.
I just received one this week and it came with the orange desiccant. I dried some Overture Turbo PLA and it only dried to 33% after 10 hours. I also fits in my Prusa MK4 enclosure (just the storage box).
I really want to like this system more. I think it looks pretty good, it seems pretty well thought out. But the price. I just can't get over the price tag. If you wanted a bunch of these boxes Lets say, 10-15 in order to really keep your popular filaments ready to go, its a pretty hard cost pill. If they were like, $20 a piece for just the box, I think I could get more behind it, something about that $30 feels too high. But form and function wise, it looks pretty cool.
If they release a second version with mentioned additions as well as to select the temperature in 1 degrees steps up to 90C would make it a beast of a system. The cherry on top would be getting rid of the decicant stuff and use this electric membranes CNC kitchen once made a video about. It would end up more expensive overall but feels like an endgame solution for drying and storing all sorts of filament. Oh I forgot make them a bit bigger the boxed to mache even go to as big as 3 kg spools but even 2 kg would be a huge improvement.

Reguarding the beep, I have opened more than a few electronic devices in my lifetime in order to rip the speaker out with a pair of pliers (or gently snip the leads) I have not done that with this box but removing the speakers in this way has never caused me any problems on the other devices I have "modified"
I really like this, it's modular so you can quickly swap out boxes, it keeps your filament dry once dried, and looks like the core functionality is well thought through. I do have a question though, my printer feeds from the rear, is it possible to place the hygrometer so that it is on the other side of the grommet, allowing the filament to exit the box in the back rather than the front, while retaining the ability to read what's on the hygrometer?

Yes, I have my filament in cereal boxes and looked at creating an adapter for the bottom .. I tried to get a Polydryer over the weekend to make it but they're on backorder. Truthfully, the dryer portion itself isn't that difficult, one could get a hairdryer (or another controllable heater source), Arduino, and spend a day writing some rudimentary code to create a very similar "adapted" product using the cereal boxes sealed lift gate.
Idk if it's the same one, but I use something called the filament bunker. It's basically the same design as the poly box (chamber for dessicant and a hygrometer) made out of a cereal box. There's mods on printables for adding a PTFE tube coupler.
Very funny, 1 box cost more than a spool, it could be a solution if you own just a few spools, I own more than 300, that will cost me ~10'000$ in boxes.... Plastic bags is the BEST solution.

$80 to hold 1 roll of filament. I use a 4 plastic box's with a seal to hold 4 full rolls each, desiccant a humidity monitor and regularly hold 11% or less. No power required and much less than $80. An it's silent.
You could buy a Sunlu S1 for just the box and get a complete dryer for each spool for about the same. Or buy a lot of vacuum bags. It’s not a viable solution. The Kickstarter S4 was about the same too, for 4 spools. It’s a one spool per year solution. Not economically viable.
4 of these for 320 or sunlu s4 filament drier for 190 i have the sunlu filament drier direct feeding 4 printers and never have any issue with stringing and it looks much better
I also think the S4 is more polished well rounded product. That being said a system like this gives you flexibility since each filament has it's own dedicated chamber. You can dry nylon, PLA and any other material with just one drying unit and separate drying boxes. The S4 doesn't have that capability.
@elleryfg7853 True enough, if you need multiple dryers for different fillements, even the single sunlu filament dryers are much more compact better and cheaper. although I haven't used one before, so I can't comment on performance, but I can't see it being bad.
The sunlu looks like a good option if you need to run multiple rolls at the same time. But if you are just running one roll at a time, you can get the combo + 4 spare boxes for 200 and be able to store a total of 5 rolls.
At 30 bucks for the box it's not really viable as a storage solution. I'd have to spend a couple thousand bucks to store my spools with this. So I'm going to stick with vacuum bags that just cost about $1.50 per spool. But I might get one or two of those units for drying while printing. If they could figure out a way to lower the cost of the box to the price of cereal boxes it'd be a really nice storage option too.

Make the letters recessed and you can repaint them easily yourself. Or they likely wouldn't tear in the first place.

measuring the temps without a spool in the box means almost nothing concerning how effect it heats the filament. None.

Yeah if done right it should be a mod with no collateral damage if you’re willing to open the device (not sure how hard that is on this dryer.

@timtoxopeus The lid works both ways, so if you need the grommet on the back just flip the lid around and clip it that way.
I have dryers but like the dry box. It maybe worth just the dry boxes for the more hydroscopic filaments when printing. Considering it.
Yeah I could see some that already have dryers just adapting the dry box system for storage. At least as a starting point.
