I'm from Singapore, our country is a total joke when it comes to wild life conservations. Our government keeps talking about conversations but constantly destroys whatever small patches of forest that we have left.. please talk about my country...
That's so sad but I think it's pretty understandable with SG's rationale its because of the very limited territory Singapore has given it is highly urbanized.
Unfortunately there is so little Singapore can do. They're limited by the amount of land they have. at least you guys have Malaysia to visit for similar wildlife.
Well you're a City/State. It makes sense you'd forget what little you may have. Still, fight for it.
i dont think singapore as a city nation should spend much of its territory on wild life.
yeah, hope they don't destroy Clementi forest. Punggol & Tengha used to have nice forest now is all gone.
Forests in Ontario are cut worse than in Russia, train loads of wood is sent to US.
Here in Toronto, a 3/4” plywood has gone from 35$ to 100$ in two years.
I’m disgusted by the Canadian corruption.
True, when I think about CN rail, I red truck with logs appear in my mind.
Holly that's expensive
Hydro electricity in Quebec too. thousands of hectares of forest have been destroyed due to damming.
Well don't feel special. We're paying $100 (CAD) for the same plywood here in the states.
The yearly wild fires in BC also burns down a lot of trees.
Russia Acknowledge Chinese rule over the area in the 1600's(Treaty of Nerchinsk). But Once China lost the Opium War. Russia took eastern Siberia from China.
they will get it back.
Well eastern manchuria not all of east Siberia. Russia had taken that at least 100 years prior to the opium war and that treaty only ceded the parts in eastern machuria.

To the Chinese that area has always been claimed by Manchus, a minority ethnicity of China. And that area is the Manchurian homeland, where they originated. In Chinese we call it 外興安嶺,or Outer Xing-An Mountain. Inside China today, there is a 大興安嶺,or Greater Xing-An Mountain. They are part of the northeastern Manchurian ancestral homeland. The Manchus migrated south after conquering heartland China, left there a small population to guard the land. The Russian empire tried to settle there but was defeated by the Manchurian army who decided to drive them out in the 17th century.
Recently learned their written language can be traced back to the same Semitic origins shared by the Roman alphabet.
Good info. I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. About 30 years ago, I became involved in Greenpeace's "Save the Whales Campaign" and then their "Cleanup the Great Lakes". Those issues were slightly resolved. People from outside Canada think that Canada is too big to environmentally impacted by our activity, however in British Columbia, 3/4s of Woodland Caribou have vanished, there are mountains of sulphr in Alberta from the oilsads and then there's the old Giant Gold Mine in Yellowknife with enough dioxin stored underground (from the gold extraction process) to possibly kill all life on Earth. Canadian taxpayers are paying about $4.4 BILLION to cleanup this poison, after the company was purchased by Miramar for $10. They will not inherit the costs of the stored toxin. I hope international pressure will force our Canadian governments to be more honest and force polluters to clean up their mess.
Hi Michael!
Thanks for the insights and for watching our video!
Great Northern Plains of India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh are also regions that suffered due to high population density and continuous habitation for 5000 years. The region was analogous to modern East Africa, with 3 species of bigcats, cheetahs, 3 species of rhinos, 3-4 large bovid species, elephants, deers, antelopes, wolves and hyena on land, and 3 species of crocodillians, river dolphins, otters in water.
You can find Gangetic Dolphin, Snow leapord, 80% population of Tiger, Lions of Asia in India.
INDIA alone still has all 👍 Also India was always highly populated from 1AD to 2020s
For 5000 years well, that is true for any large swathe of plain which lost natural vegetation due to humans
Here in Sri Lanka, there are two separate departments for forest conservation and wildlife conservation. So they both have lands that native wildlife thrives. "Yala national park" situated in southern Sri Lanka, is controlled and maintained by the wildlife department and there are many bordering conserved forests that belong to the Forest department. Ironically, the electric fences (usually used to keep elephants away from people) are made through the border of the national park dividing the forest in to two separate parts due to lack of proper communication between these departments. So some elephants died due to lack of food and water because of this stupid action. And this is just one case. There are many more intense problems here. According to a research done few years ago, elephants live in 60% of the total land area of Sri Lanka. But forest cover is now under 26% and in 44% of the land, both elephants and humans, live together with a crucial conflict.
Wow - That’s super interesting! We should really take a closer look at this situation. Thanks for the hint 😉

*The turkish occupation of the northern part of Cyprus, two very different countries with different laws handling wildlife on an island, dead/abandoned zones, fenced-off borders, definitely an interesting case in concerns to wildlife*
Thank you so much for letting us know Nicolas - this sounds like a topic that's definitely worth having a closer look into 🌍🌱
That sounds interesting indeed! We'l keep that in mind! Thank you 😊
There is no "occupation" of northern Cyprus! Don't spread falsities here. There is the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), which was established by the surviving Turkish minority of Cyprus, who had been massacred by the majority Greek Cypriots during the 1950's and 60's and who founded a state of their own by merging the enclaves where they had taken refuge while the bloody ethnic cleansing campaign of Greek Cypriots was raging like a wildfire.
Suprisingly the "dead zone" that divides the island and is controlled by the UN has become a hotspot for a variety a rare and non-rare plant species since the area is not cultivated and doesn't suffer from bad agriculture practices and illegal hunting. Other than that there is much cooperation and a very similar strategy from environmentalists from both sides and this is increasing by the day. The main difference is that in the Republic of Cyprus controlled area uncontrolled developement is higher and that has brought many problems to wildlife.
It sucks that even though China banned logging in their own country, it increased the logging in Russia to compensate. Excellent video Terra Mater!

Hi I live in Costa Rica and they have had a great story of success bringing nature back it used logged way to much and now the country is 75% forest it would be super cool if you made a video about it
I’ve been to Costa Rica many times. Nature is great but the there is no proper infrastructure no proper roads no trains. The government is super corrupt. And it’s definitely one of the most boring Latin American countries. I’m not saying there’s nothing good about it and yes nature is cool but I’m just saying it’s way overrated.
All these videos do is serve to remind us that humanity will be its own downfall, without nature there is no humans and that's all there is to it, so let all these big powerhouses destroy everything, us, along with them, will suffer and die for it.
The situation in the Middle East is dire, especially with the dams constructed on the sources of Tigris and Euphrates, the whole region is going down rapidly. And it has huge consequences for both the people and the wildlife in the region.
The "Dam Dilemma" is a big one which why we specifically dedicated a video to it - it really affects wildlife to a great extend 🌱
You are not the first one to mention that area - we should really have a closer look into that! Thank you 😊
@@lenafromterramater3690 Thank you for your attention! :)
almost makes one wonder if there is a global conspiracy to manipulate humans in to destroying their own planet
Middle east artificially more populated than the nature can support there. Same is happening in Southeast Asia too. Luckily India and Bangladesh are going to have a declining population by the mid of the century. Hope the demand for more land to grow food and timber comes down and the natural ecosystems can be revitalized.
Iraq and Syria are going to be the worst affected areas in middle east. Not sure what will happen with that many people.
"Are any border or political issues in my area", previously not really, but having moved interstate to South Australia, the Murray/Darling River topic is now locally relevant to me. Not international, but given the level of state autonomy within Australia, there's a lot of tension and blame-games over the mismanagement of the continent's largest river system. It's a burning dumpster fire of a topic with so many levels of issues, but at its core, its rather like the Aral Sea disaster: arid region with a mighty river that's now depleted in order to sustain agriculture in a region that otherwise is incapable of it at that level. The big enemy is cotton (Aral Sea disaster 2.0?), as one might expect. But with 4 states all using the system, no state wants to take the blame or will use the exploits of a neighbour to justify their own. In South Australia, being the most downstream user, mismanagement upstream directly impacts SA. SA also uses the water for irrigation (albeit on a lesser scale but still growing stuff in the desert) as well as a source of drinking water for Adelaide in rough times.
The situation lately has lead to the longest river, the Darling/Barka, completely drying up with massive fish kills and towns left on boil water alerts (and at its worst, literally surviving on water being trucked hundreds of kilometres just to keep towns alive). Meanwhile near the Murray's mouth, the Coorong ecosystems have been collapsing, the Murray River's own mouth has been silting over and the Lake Alexandrina system has had issues with seawater incursion as the river failed to output enough freshwater. It's a huge mess. At least a year of above average rain has got the Darling/Barka flowing again and giving a false sense that 'its all good now'.
Whole Australia should be given back and managed by indigenous people. And others live by their rules.
In any country with subdivisions led by autonomous govts always causes mismanagement & Start of blame game atleast for preservation of nature ecosystems govts must have coordination
@@KateeAngel What an utterly stupid comment lol, but judging by your name I can't blame you for it
@@KateeAngel That's not even close to being realistic since most Australians are descendants of Europeans. Aboriginal people make up a very tiny minority and most of them live in remote communities. 2:02 Just to correct a glaring historical mistake, the region along the Amur river was the jurchen/manchurian homeland, so the russian pioneers/colonists never expanded down the amur as much as venetians merchants expanded venice to include all of France - if anything certainly didn't require the jurchen/manchurian expansion due to some stated fictional 2:39 russian negligence and losing the manchurian homeland to the manchurians.
My eyes rolled to the back of my head at that part. Apparently the Manchurians "stole" the ancestral Manchurian homeland from the Russians, and not the other way round. That's one of the most hilarious made up history I've ever seen.
i see this video has done its job to stir up some distrust and tensions between russia/china again. the way this video is setup is pretty weird if you ask me.
@@michaelh9953 Nah... Russians and Chinese we know our history, we know the past conflicts but both sides have decided to move on.
It's the West that can't accept this positive development, and cope by making videos like this. (target audience of this video is the West, not the Russian/Chinese)
The author of this video didn’t do his homework on the true history. I am part Manchurian in ancestry. So the truth is quite the opposite! Russians came and stole our land! Sent the Russians back to European Russia where they really belong. The Russians from Tsarist period, through Soviet Union and until now never changed. It is alway expansionist in nature. Oh don’t forget Stalin forcibly removed all Asians from the Primorski Krai and Amur region and replaced them with Slavic migrants to solidify the Russian claim and control.
Also, Russians are the ones decimated the wildlife in Siberia region for the fur trades which commanded high prices back in Europe. Don’t blame the Chinese or other Asians for the problem.
What a propaganda this video is!
@@CjxJamie nobody stole anyone's lands. Calm down with your politics. Manchurians never existed in large numbers north of the Amur River. It was mostly empty unutilized land that the Russians settled in.

What a disingenuous way to spin history "meanwhile from the south, the Manchurian Qing Empire was staking it's claim" the video make it sound as though the land was Russian as of right and the Manchurian were outsiders invading to acquire it which is totally FALSE. The lands were native to the Manchurians who are the indigenuous people there, it is the Russians whose homeland is in Europe that are the foreign intruders. The Treaty of Nerchinsk was signed in 1689 where the land between north bank of Amur and Stanovoy Range were reccognised it as that of Qing China by Russia.
And then, "the area remain uncontested until 2 centuries later" - which again is false as going by the Treaty of Nerchinsk Russia has already Qing's sovereignty over it - how can it be uncontested ???
Amur tigers and leopards used to be found in our country. Why not do a video on American initiated Trade War with China inadvertently caused deforestation in Amazon rainforest?
(China switched to Brazil for corn and soybean import in retaliation of US tariff on Chinese goods. Of course, Brazilian could have done something to increase production without deforestation, but it is kind of inevitable though basic economics. If the trade war didn’t happen, we would potentially have more rain forest today.)
All 3 parties are at fault (when it comes to the environment) here.
Additionally, Bolsonaro's Brazil has been interested in further extraction of resources inside the Amazon for a while now, it's not just because of the US-China trade war. If one pays attention from the start, there have been increasing deforestation and slaughter/displacement of Amazonian indigenous people by Brazilian companies. there is a political/legal problem in Chile. About 20 years ago, a famous millionaire and politician, Francisco Javier Errazuriz, bought some land upstream from a village in an oasis of the Atacama desert. He bought water rights, as water is a private asset in Chile. He soon, took all the oasis water for his tropical fruit plantation and left the village farmers dry. Most of the villagers, after living there for generations, went bankrupt and had to migrate to the city. The same procedure was copied by other rich businessmen in the semi-desert near central Chile (Valparaíso Region, Petorca Province). They constructed export quality avocado plantations on the hills upstream from villages. They built illegal wells in the river bed and pumped the water up to their plantations on the hills through big pipelines. As a result of this, the traditional villagers not only lost their farm water, but also their drinking water. For more than 10 years they have been collecting drinking water from tank trucks sent by the town hall. They now have to open bowels in plastic bags, as there is no water in their toilets.

It's because of the Gulf Stream effect. It's the main reason why Florida, US's entire east coast as well as the whole of Europe are warmer than corresponding places of similar latitudes.
@@syncmaster915n No, East Asian winters are particularly cold because of the Siberian High. Just read the Wikipedia article about it.
@@syncmaster915n Also the US east coast isn't very warm at all for its latitude because of the prevailing winds, the weather there is always coming off of the interior of the continent.
Florida also gets cold snaps which cause frost...
@@somerandommen Yeah but Florida isn't even in the tropics so that's what you'd expect.
Great video
Thank you Shawn! This means a lot to our team 😊
The watermark is seriously distracting, try making it semi-transparent and move it into a static place on the screen
Well there’s a big difference when one has four times the area but 1/10th the population. Then there’s that less than 2% live east of the Lena River which is the dividing line between west and east Siberia
And who asked the Chinese to multiply in such insane proportions and consume everything they ever find? Why do 1,5 billion people have to be kept in a single country again? Let them break up into many smaller states with individual territories to manage and maybe their people will finally have some responsibility.
A lot of drama, even over the top. I was particularly amused by the part with the comparison of expansion with the wild West. Russia is a multinational country and this is due to the fact that Russia preserved the indigenous peoples, and did not destroy them, the Europeans destroyed the Indians in America. Therefore, as a Siberian, it is funny for me to hear such a comparison.
True. Sadly this is often the case of western analysis on Russia. Always filled with prejudices, drama and cynicism . Such sensationalism rakes in a lot of views.
they are russians, they must have been worse than us /s
oh yes, the only people that your country isn't able to preserve are political opponents , free journalists and people who are thinking of expressing criticism against that amazing self elected leadership. Seems most of other species are well preserved under their propaganda and censorship. Again small people talking about what is well known of other nations history and its part of history. What their past governments did to their own people isn't a matter of the discussion... waste of time with you people.
Plus you coming out with these bs just now that russia is actually going to bring troubles in Ukraine which is a fully independent country, oh wait, the censorship is working so well in your country that may you aren't aware of that, let's stay focused on what the western countries did 1 or 5 centuries ago
Very interesting history.
ASBOLUTELY INFORMATIVE VIDEO
Thanks for watching it!
The CCPhas done so much damage to China even the animals want out.
Ccp dredging ocean floors entirely destroying eco systems. Around the world.
ignorant
It sounds like Chinese depleted vast wilderness, however research on the past decade tells that China is the only country which has reversed deforestation and actually increased the coverage of vegetation. Considering it's a country of 1.4 billion people, it's really difficult to manage the balance of nature and agriculture.
On the Russian side, they have far less population living in this region. Most lands remain uninhabited. The logging economy won't be a severe issue as long as people constantly change places of fetching timbers and let forest take time to restore itself.
You speak yet do not know your facts. The USA has FAR MORE forest cover than it did a century ago. In my region, we had close to zero forest cover in 1920, now we're at 80%
The problem is, the deforestation number is taken for all of China- the area along the Gobe desert was the place where 'reforestation' happened, making the national statistic seem more important than it really is.
Also, the reforestation for the Great Green Wall was done with only a few species of tree, and is starting to fail because of lack of understanding about biodiversity.
@@LancesArmorStriking The aim of reforestation is to keep fertile soil from desert erosion, so the range of capable trees is limited. Biodiversity might be some kind of concern, but after all it's a minor factor. I can hardly say that's a failure.
@@osmanldevleti7405
I am aware of the concern, but biodiveristy is very important to the project, and while it has not been a "failure", it has not been a success, either.
The plants were very limited in their genetic diversity, which means that if a fungus or disease infects one of the trees, the rest will quickly die.
The trees planted are not native-- poplar trees take up more water than the native plants, they are vulnerable to winter storms, and are causing water shortages. They are only good results on paper.
There are almost no plants or shrubs- only trees. This is indicative of a primitive understanding of nature and ecosystems.
In fact, China's national forestry department has recognized this- they are planning to plant more native shrubs, instead of trees. They understand their past failure.
@@cs-rj8ru
Still china is the only country with growing forest coverage.
They are putting in a ton of manpower into reforestation
this video is very interesting.
That is great to hear "Schnippi" 😊

Can you do a similar video where American expansion resulted in a mass extinction of wildlife as well?
This is a very interesting & important topic indeed! Great idea - we should have a look into it. Thanks.
No, I'm not a tree hugger
In Australia there are debuts between government and indigenous peoples over land use
Well, I knew nothing about the Amur River until now!
You're welcome 😉
It is clear that the makers of the video do not know that industrialization and large-scale agriculture are the most effective means of saving the ecology. Haphazard development and decentralized agriculture cannot meet the needs of a growing population, and it is industrialization that can absorb enough people into industry to keep them from falling into the Malthusian trap. Secondly, China's investment in environmental protection is one of the strongest in the world, this river is an agricultural area but most of it is still no man's land, in a world where forests are declining, China has changed the entire northern ecology through decades of reforestation, they have increased the forest area almost as much as the world has deforested, I have never seen any other country do this in the world. I've never seen any other country in the world do that.
cut down every tree ? Replace with farms ? Not a good idea. Simply shortsighted greed.
Sounds like you are a CCP bot.
A lot of investment into conservation doesn't mean it will actually be super successful in practice
Hey Terra Mater! This is a truly great channel and will grow magnitudes in the future, that I am sure of.
BUT, please would you find a new place for your logo/watermark. Somewhere that is more up to today's standards and is not an intrusive big white rectangle in a spot where literally no one else is putting anything for a reason.
I love you guys and will watch every one of your videos, but a little modernization along with viewer comfort would only benefit both parties. Move or redesign that ugly white box if you could please.
Hi baar_nii,
thanks so much for your constructive feedback!
I'll definitely share your thoughts with the entire team at our next editorial meeting.
I hope the Russian federation and China make whatever it takes to protect this area i would say one of the last pristine paradise on earth 🌎🌍 our mother . Long live the Almighty Amur River there should be a WORLD Wide campaign for the cause . Only us can save our planet from extinction if we work together . Only one home earth 🌍🌎. Greetings from Minneapolis MINNESOTA 👍🏾❤️🙏🏼🙏🏿🙏🏻🙏🏾🙏🏿
Seeing as China has polluted over 80% of their groundwater Nationwide I am not convinced that anything China says in regards toward conservation of protecting the environment
China would rather exploit everything that is within their ability to exploit
It's literally INSANE how diverse the ecosystems biological diversity is SO uniquely complex and facinating. I'm so interested in the fact that the biodiversity there is so special to that specific area of the world. It's surreal.
So what? It's not like only China does this.
Precisely what is the point of your comment? They have never said only China does this. Their videos previously highlight a lot of issues in other places too.
That is true, but that doesn't make it better either 🌱

Goes to show that every nation has a history of struggling with dealing in preservation and conservation of the environment as well as geopolitics of the nation itself
Indeed! The balance between wildlife conservation/environmental preservation and geopolitical strategies is always a thin red line. Across the world.
China is like Denmark. We also virtually only have culture landscape. Not much nature left. And this is a fact. A sad fact.
China actually has a lot of nature left as their cities tend to be very dense.

But China and Russia and N. Korea are engaged in a three way love triangle now.....isn't that sweet. Where there is love, there is life and thermonuclear war. Its so special.
This is too much for my heart
The truth can indeed be really brutal!
They must have a law to protecting the forest for future generation like if you cating 1 tree then you have to plant at the same year at least 2 new trees. By the way the seiz of cating three must have a limited size, that will safe the soil to washed away by heavy rainfall.
I’m from Aotearoa NZ and our hydrology has/is been/being destroyed by commercial forestry, commercial fishing, and commercial agriculture. What habitat does remain is mostly dominated by invasives and the mauri is depleted but for in scattered remnants. A talking point which hasnt been made in the media is that in the treaty of Waitangi and te tiriti o Waitangi (which established the formal British presence here) confirmed to Māori tino rangatiratanga over our lands, forests, fisheries, settlements, and taonga (taonga encompasses everything precious to Māori). Ofc the colonial government and settlers have never upheld their end of the agreement and subsequently our rights and ecologies have been degraded ever since
If there's anything that'll come out of this. Is the shift towards renewable energy.
