VERY RARE Lighter Restoration - World War 1 Trench Build
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 жов 2019
- Very rare lighter restoration from World War 1. This time I do a full restoration and repair of a very special and old lighter that was built by a soldier fighting in WW1 in the trenches of Britannia, France.
I got this rare lighter from the family to restore (they want to be total anonymous), the lighter was delivered to them along with his remains during WW1, he was wounded in battle but survived but shortly after unluckily he died of influenza along with thousands of others soldiers.
I don’t think that we can even imagine what life was in those trenches. A true HELL.
This lighter hasn’t been touched since then. For 120 years to be exact. That gives me chills and performance anxiety. So, I do restore this lighter with the biggest respect and doing the best I can, constantly thinking not to overdo the restoration. (I’m known for that) 😬
The person who sent me this lighter has seen the lighter and the video before uploading it here on UA-cam, and she was VERY satisfied with the result of this Restoration Video.
This is my second lighter restoration - and it was a good but a bit nervous experience. You can see me shake a bit on my hand in some of the videos closeups.
I did no magic tricks around this lighter. I added 2 brass screws to support the brazed ring around the trigger (the brazing was really bad), you may have to forgive me for that, but I think that this fits this lighter really good 😉
I really liked the outcome of this lighter restoration. I’m so lucky that I was given this opportunity and of course given this special World War lighter a new life.
If you enjoyed my video too, please like and comment. That will mean a lot to me!

The person who made this would be so proud of the love and care you put into this restoration. Fantastic work!
many thanks
the person who made the lighter is probably dead
I love nothing more than removing rust and watching rust being removed. Why? My mouth actually waters. It's physical thing? It's so relaxing and satisfying to see
Thanks for watching Theresa.... Tomorrow I will be removing more rust .. 😉 so watch out for my next video 👌
I also get same feeling in restoring unique pieces to full glowry n keeping them super safe...as my prized possesition

Hello there Salad Fingers, fancy seeing you here.
God bless this soldier's soul and family. Penicillin was not discovered/mass produced until WWII... in addition to the yellow sulfa powder pre-war.
Tbh, I'm not sure this is a WW1 piece. There wasn't an active trench war that far south (the actual trenches were in Flanders and the very North of France, a region called Nord pas de Calais.
Bretagne was a very active battlefield in the second world war, though...

thats incredible. that lighter went through hell and back and you have brought it back to life. your work is amazing keep this up man
Thank you very much!

When I saw all that rust and dirt coming off I said to myself 'if that stuff could talk, what stories would it tell?' Then you saved it in a box! So neat! Great job!
thank you so much :)
Maybe that stuff really could talk.
If it could talk it’d tell the longest stories in history
Probably stories about the war
Hi
I love that you don’t talk. It makes watching
Your videos so relaxing. Thank you for sharing this. I know it’s probably a pain in the ass filming it instead of just doing it
Thanks for watching and for your kind words I really appreciate it 👍
I would love to see the person who made this lighter 100 years ago. I always imagene people behind beautiful art work. Can you imagine if all people would create things with such love, focus and effort like you do ❤️
Yeah
Thanks for watching and for your kind words I really appreciate it 👍 and yes that would be very cool 😉

@@kerenbadach208 Hello. How are you doing?
The fact that the lighter before restoration told a story that it survived. And now that you restored it. The story it tells is more clear and as power in it.
It's an inanimate object. It cannot tell a story.

Agora tô viciada nos seus vídeos, ótimo trabalho 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
This brings tears to my eyes. Reviving history. I can't help imagining what it would be like if the previous owner and others of his time could watch this happening... and feel somehow like they, their exploits & memories, their life & times, were given a bit of reverence, recognition and value once again. Saved from the dust and rust of time, and made to live again brightly

WW1 wasn't even a 100 years ago
Well ww1 was 1914 to 1918 so yes it was over 100 years ago
Yoo i just wanted to say I saw literally 2 seconds of this video on snapchat and came here instantly to give the original creator his credit. Would never of thought you could bring that lighter back, good job man
thank you so much for watching on my channel I am glad you liked it :)
Same came from Snapchat lol
Hi guys, i m french and i loved every video that i saw on this chanel. I am writting right now to tell you that it s a french lighter. The ammo use for this is a 8mm lebel, the ammunition that the french army use in WW1. I know, it s not realy important, but i am so glad to see that kind of my culture restored with that kindness in the description down below. Love you guys, love you AR, i love (once again) all your videos. It's calm and beautiful. Keep Going !
Thanks for watching and for your very kind words I really appreciate it 👍🏻 :)
Like a watchmaker , his fingers are nimble and steady.
Thank you for sharing .❤And best comfort to the family with this restoration.

It’s just so excellent, makes me want to get another hobby🤣🤣❤️
Thanks for watching 👍😉
I got goose bumps when you removed the flint. The last time that was done, was by some poor Tommy, who was fighting a war with an unknown outcome.
Probably made by some French troops sent to reserve after battle. It's definitelly an 8mm Lebel. You can tell by the necking down 11mm gras to the 8mm and the rim at the base of the case.

What an honour and a privilege to work on restoring such a historic artifact... and to have it so beautifully gleaming and functional after 100+ years. I’m sure this service officer would be proud of the job you did on his lighter, just as the current owner is. Well done! Fascinating to watch you work... Cheers from Hobart Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺
Soldier: I'm in the middle of one of the deadliest wars in the history of mankind. I'm constantly reminded of that. I know what I need - a lighter in the shape of a gun, to remind me of this hellhole even in my cigarette breaks.
It was probably for the muskets they had a long time ago
@@TrentonGames69420Actually they had already moved past muskets at that point in history!
It's called trench art, a lot of it exists

Who the heck wouldn’t like this?!?! Very interesting and it’s a piece of history! The men who fought made things like this to keep their minds off of the hell that was going on. I think you did a fantastic job!
I would like to direct your attention to the mallard swimming in this comment section a little above your comment.
