there are plenty of current bands unconcerned with success, it only appears otherwise because the most prominent ‘fun’ bands are old, and that’s because they've had the time to become appreciated and known. of course you won’t know many current obscure bands, because so far they’ve been short lived and there are now more pop dog shit bands, but only more not only. anyway, grungy music was pop in the 90s

These guys tried to sell out on this record as a goof and it didn’t do as good as their earlier stuff 95 was the last year grunge made it after that it it was boy bands the first half of the 90s were so good with music the second part had some good stuff like Korn and Marilyn manson

It was entertaining to experience the implosion of their little world by the likes of Mudhoney et al. Pick any decade & you can find four assholes etc., but it seems the "mainstream" has definitely got worse as the local & underground scene has got better & seems to be flourishing in the realities of a digital age & the diminishing need for big labels.
