Absolutely amazing music from three amazingly talented young men ... total class and style. Unrecognised but has to be one of the greatest songs ever performed and written.
In an interview Maurice said that they seldom do this live because of its complexity. He went on to say there was 26 layers of Harmony on this particular song. I think the reason it is the favorite of so many is 1 the outstanding Harmony and 2 each of the Gibb Brothers sang the lead/solo on the recording. I haven't seen it mentioned in the other comments so I'll go ahead and mention it now. Fanny was their maid when they had first come to the United States to record. They rented a house and it came with a housekeeper / maid and her name was Fannie. The Story Goes that when she found out that they had this song named after her she actually cried. I think I would have too.
The maid/housekeeper/cook was actually the lady that came with the place they rented that Eric Clapton also got when he went to Miami to record at Criterion. When they were rehearsing the song, they weren't using an actual name, and Maurice mentioned that they should pick one and the song would have a better flow. That's when they decided on Fannie as a "Thank you" for such great care and meals, and brought her into the studio, and the tears flowed. ❤😊❤
I think this is another indication that the brothers were just really nice guys and sensitive to people's feelings. (Well they weren't sensitive to reporters feelings. LOL.) She probably had never had such appreciation bestowed on her before or since. I bet she's a fan. If I'm going to have a hard crush on a group I'm glad it's the brothers because they're just nice people. They don't yell at or cuss out the audience like I've seen rather heard other groups do.
I am 72 yrs old..I started watching your channel for the BeeGees..but now I just love your positively and kind, soft spoken words for these troubled days..Thank you
I love to see how blown away you are by these guys... for me it’s like hearing it again for the first time...through you and your reactions. So wonderful to see your appreciation for The Bee Gees. They’re the best.
Great comment. I have loved The Bee Gees since the 60s and they are my favorite group of all time. It is awesome to see new generations discovering their music and reliving the joy of hearing it for the first time through their reactions.
Sometimes it’s hard to tell who’s singing what unless you can see them. Barry said in an interview that Robin’s falsetto is slightly higher than his. But sometimes Maurice sneaks something in there. You got a Bromance dude. Love it!
Back when music was actually music, done by true artists. Fortunately we have a few young ones coming up, so, while the levy may be dry, the music has not yet died. lol.
There were two lead singers - Robin and Barry, both had beautiful, very high voices, and Barry did also a lot of falsetto. Maurice had a natural deeper voice and also did falsetti. And he wrote the sick harmonies that make for the incredible sound in songs like this one.
@@CoowallskyMo was not a alcoholic in the late 60's early 70's. Try listening to his song "Railroad" from I believe it was 69' or 70'. Also other songs from his unreleased "Loner" album. It was unreleased because he wrote it during the split in 69' - August 1970. When they got back together, all 3 agreed that they would not release their unpublished solo work. So it never got published. Also listen to his songs from "Cucumber Castle" especially his part in the song that Barry and he sang called "The Lord". Maurice had a very big range that he could sing in.
I was in 9th grade when this came out. This song is raw. It fills my soul. It brings me back to my old bedroom listening to it and belting out the words with them. If you didn't know better you'd think there were 8 people singing this song. I don't know many artists now that have this talent. They all have been or were married for a long time, had children, and produced music for many many others. Yes, they drank and smoked pot... and sadly Andy did his share of cocaine, but they functioned. You rarely heard them curse, they were alway super polite when being interviewed, smiled to their fans.... These guys were one of a kind and I really think this song is on my top 5 songs. So much range and feeling. Okay, I"m done. Thanks for listening.
You are so cute. It is so damn refreshing to see how you appreciate what we have grown up with your expression of love and music. The Bee Gees bring out the best in everybody with their music. God Bless and keep listening💙🙏💙
It isn't Maurice, it's Barry. Maurice harmonizes on this track, but the baritone and falsetto is Barry, with Robin joining him on the chorus. EDIT: Sorry, Robin joining him on the bridge and chorus.
I think every single one of the Gibb brothers is absolutely gorgeous. And their voices are so beautiful I have never heard anyone come close to these guys. I was so blessed to see them in 1978 it was the best concert I’ve ever gone to in my life. I adore these guys.
Maurice is on bass and his fraternal twin is in center. Barry was the eldest brother, being 3 years older. Barry and Robin shared lead vocals on many of their early songs with Mo filling in the harmonies. The Brothers Gibb (yes, Bee Gees) three part harmony is second to none when they sing in the same room and the same mic.
My dad ran WOW-AM in Omaha during this time which they promoted the Bee Gees concerts there.. But more important to me - this song - I was just a small youth then and it was on the PA speakers anytime you went to any nice restaurant, shop, park (lobby area, etc) so when I hear it it brings back all those memories. The best moments in my life.. My dad said of every band that came through Omaha from Elvis to ABBA, The Bee Gees's were the nicest back stage of them all. Their parents were always there too. My dad said in particular Andy Gibb was the most memorable. He was these three packed in one. Nicest guy of all people he's met since 1967 all the way to today.
I think that what some people don't pick out is that sometimes Robin and Barry will sing a lead at the same time and it sounds like one voice that is slightly different from what each of theirs is alone but it's them together. I love them and all the ways they chose to make their music different. They will be missed greatly as a group but their music will live on forever. Thanks for your help.
Enjoy watching your reaction to this song and video of the BeeGees and all the other songs you react to of the BeeGees. You do an excellent job and glad l found you I find myself watching you react to Fanny Be Tender and Too Much Heaven over and over again. Thank you Chad ❤️
Great things, especially music needs to be passed on from generation to generation. I’m in my late 50’s and my 20 year old daughter absolutely loves The Bee Gees.
From the “Main Course” album. Back in the 70’s as a teenager, I would lie on the floor in our room with stereo in it, volume cranked, sing and read the jacket cover!
That one is Maurice pronounced Morris :) They all sounded so much alike it was hard to tell them apart at times. This was their mothers favorite of all of their songs.
Maurice (Morris) is on the left playing the guitar and Robin is in the middle. Their voices blend beautifully! They just ooze talent!! Thanks for your great reaction!
Bought this 8 track in 75, not because it has Jive Talkin, nor Nights On Broadway but heard Fanny on the radio and had to have it. One of their best or the best song by the Bee Gees. I think you younger youtubers reacting to this song gets it. This song takes many different directions. Those are the things I also saw in 1975.
I love watching these reaction videos because I've been listening to this music for over 4 decades and it's so much fun to see people loving it all these years later. Robin and Maurice (Mo) are twins. Barry is the older brother. Their youngest brother Andy died suddenly when he was 30 of heart failure. Watch the documentary just out. "The Bee Gees:How Can You Mend a Broken Heart". It's great and will tell you the story of their lives. This song, Fanny is one of my favorites.
Get one. It is the brothers at their best and each of them does their own songs so they all get a turn. Amazing tunes I had to buy the cd. Its out of print so good luck getting a good deal mine was 30 bucks
Another gem from the Main Course LP...every song on that album is completely awesome...and they happened before The Bee Gees made the “big time” in 1977...for me, they hit the Big Time back in 1967!!
I loved your reaction "it's not even fair" and thank you for this reflection on "hearing" and put such music to make this world better. Greetings from Mexico. I'm following you
As a songwriter, Main Course is a must listen for any musician or fan of music in general. With Arif Martin at the helm, this is one of the most incredibly produced albums of all time, as well as the most diverse of their career
Sorry crazy phone sent before I was finished.i have always loved the Bee Gees it's hard to pick one favorite but I really thought this one was extra special. Those harmonies. Such talent.
You are young yet, so yes we of the “ older “ generation remember well our loves our heartbreaks and our times of triumphs. And they are most times centered around our favorite singers and their songs . We still laugh and cry. The Bee Gees, The Brothers Gibb will never be forgotten. We still sing and dance to their MOST fantastic music every day, and cry for the early loss of Robin and Mo. BUT we rejoice that we still have Berry‼️❤️🌹💔💔
Robin was always positioned in the middle (during performances...) - since Barry and Maurice played instruments... However, in the studio (when they were adding their vocals to an instrumental track...), Maurice would often be "The Man In The Middle"...💖💖💖
They're Brits/Australians, so Maurice is pronounced 'Morris'. Robin is in the middle. The deeper voice is Barry. Robin actually had a higher voice than Barry, but not the fabulous falsetto. If you listen to a real oldie called "I Started a Joke" (which I thoroughly disliked when it was new and so was I) you'll be able to distinguish the voices more easily. Robin has a distinctive sound and accent and sings lead on that one. You'll be able to hear him on pretty much every cut once you've heard that one.
Actually the three could perform falsettos, some falsetto choruses (including this one) are Barry and Robin together, a wonderful blending. Robin did it solo in "Living Together". Maurice did falsetto mostly in harmonies, but also in some live performances of "Nights on Broadway".
They all in this beautiful song which is one of their best, well all played with the level s and all three kept swapping places in there voices, mo cud do high to but he mostly stuck to middle and low, all them have sed they all played with this song so you wouldn't know whos singing which bit, n was their mum's favourite song, and our barry later said we cant sing this in our concert because of all the more arrangements that have to be done, but was asked alot for it. A totally brilliant amazing song, from the incredible bee gees. I mean repeat repeat repeat.wow
Robin is always in the middle ,not playing an instrument.Robin and Barry had nice falcettos .Barry 's was more pronounced. "Fanny "is a favorite of many many BeeGees fans.
Robin's voice is actually known as vibrato because of the way it sounds like a vibrator is on his throat making it vibrate. It really comes through when you listen to "I started a joke". I really don't remember it from my youth but it is now one of my favorites! Hold down the fort Barry. We love you
beesee Will - FYI - Robin could play piano, organ and a bit of guitar. He used them to compose and also on his early solo albums. Of course his amazing vibrato voice was all the instrument he needed. Both of his brothers called him "the voice". Robin's voice suited some songs, Barry's suited other song.
SUPERBULOUS ! I LOVE YOUR REACTION.I TOTALLY RELATE TO YOU. IT BRINGS OUT THE BEST HUMANITY CAN OFFER.That to me is the ultimate BEE GEE LEGACY. Thanks for opening up to us thru this masterpiece of a song.❤
Every single song in the Main Course album is fun or great! I loved the songs on Night Fever too but stopped following them due to Chicago, Stevie Wonder, Boston, ELO, Tim Weisberg, Chuck Mangione, Ramsey Lewis, George Benson, Seals& Crofts, Crosby Still, Nash, Fleetwood Mac, the Frampton Live album, James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot, then Bob Marley & Madonna for me in the 80s.. & then there were my friends' albums... Journey et al. So much music , so little time. Only a few months ago did i discover Spirits Have Flown & been hooked again on the BeeGees. Every day I have to hear some or a lot of the BeeGees!😂🥰❤😂😍 Thanks again for reviewing them. Love your reactions!❤
Love your reaction, I have watched your reaction several times for this song. …”not fair”….( everything they are releasing into the air)😉 They always make me smile. Even if it is a sad type song.
I LOVE this song. BUT to be fair, where the Bee Gees are concerned, any song they are singing & gracing my lucky ears with at that moment is my favorite...Like my children, I can't choose just one favorite...Oh & if you've never watched Cucumber Castle, do yourself a favor, look it up & watch it!
Morris(Maurice) pink shirt, Robin, twins then of course Barry. I was 15 when I discovered and fell in love with these multi talented artist as well as the youngest brother Andy. I still love them all and sadly Barry is the last soldier standing. God bless them all.🙏🏻❤️
It is so great when you discover a group as prolific as The Bee Gees. I notice you’ve stayed away from the Saturday Night Fever stuff (Stayin Alive/Night Fever). I’m glad you explored the early stuff first but that music is also worth visiting.
Thanks Laura for your feedback on this channel...if you browse my homepage closely under the Bee Gees playlist, you'll find "You Should Be Dancing". I haven't reacted to "Stayin Alive" simply because I've heard it so many times on the radio over the years. Again, thanks for tuning in!
This is at the top of the list of my favorite Bee Gees songs. Love it! Maurice ( Morris ) is the one with dark hair & beard. Robin doesn’t play an instrument.
Maurice, pronounced Morris, also had a beard. Robyn was blond with the beautiful tremor in his voice. Robin and Maurice were twins. They started singing and harmonizing at about 5 and 9 years old and made it to Australian t.v. just a few Years later. Their mother made their little outfits. Their will never be talent like this again. We have witnessed real genius!
This is my fav review of yours! Thank you!...growing up in this era...you just hoped they played it on am or / fm radio...transistor radios..one ear piece..at the beach...driving around in a pinto...yes...great music!
The man in the red shirt is Maurice ( pronounced Morris) they are fraternal twins, and Morris has the deeper voice that you were hearing on the background. Fanny was their housekeeper and they wrote this song and used her name.
Lip-Sync Studio-Version! But Fanny is really a great song. The brothers are the hell of every songwriter, universal masters! Maybe the best ever. And Chad, must say your reacts are such a pleasure. Well done. Now go to their hidden gems like "Paper Mache Cabbages And Kings", "Bury Me Down By The River", "Road To Alaska", "Blue Island" and especially "Odessa".

Robin gibs song I started a joke n saved by the bell, n his part in these songs
The Bee Gees were the greatest ever!! Their music touches your heart and soul!! My favorite song!!!❤️
Put it this way , you couldn’t find 3 guys in history that harmonizes the way these brothers do !

💓💓💓
they're MAGIC!
Morris(Maurice) pink shirt, Robin, twins then of course Barry. I was 15 when I discovered and fell in love with these multi talented artist as well as the youngest brother Andy. I still love them all and sadly Barry is the last soldier standing. God bless them all.🙏🏻❤️
Fanny and to love somebody two of my favorites.
WOW, GREAT SONG. I HAD FORGOTTEN THIS....THANKS FOR THE REVIEW.
Treat people the way you want to be treated and love people the way you want to be loved :) 🧡
Awesome BeeGees one of best groups ever.
Boy you said that so well!!!
I listen to this song in the morning to start my day !
They were ABSOLUTELY a gift
This is at the top of the list of my favorite Bee Gees songs. Love it! Maurice ( Morris ) is the one with dark hair & beard. Robin doesn’t play an instrument.
Maurice, pronounced Morris, also had a beard. Robyn was blond with the beautiful tremor in his voice. Robin and Maurice were twins. They started singing and harmonizing at about 5 and 9 years old and made it to Australian t.v. just a few Years later. Their mother made their little outfits. Their will never be talent like this again. We have witnessed real genius!
Love Robins haunting voice and Mo's baritone. Barry showcased more often tho. Mo does the arranging and plays a great bass guitar and piano
This is one of my favorites!!!
When He's Gone is another great one
This is my fav review of yours! Thank you!...growing up in this era...you just hoped they played it on am or / fm radio...transistor radios..one ear piece..at the beach...driving around in a pinto...yes...great music!
The man in the red shirt is Maurice ( pronounced Morris) they are fraternal twins, and Morris has the deeper voice that you were hearing on the background. Fanny was their housekeeper and they wrote this song and used her name.
Love your reaction
😂 it's not even fair! I don't know how I came across you this freezing December night, but thanks for the entertainment.
2nd for Paper Mache. Great fun song! (poor Jimmy tho)
@@pretzel_cat Jimmy had a gun and the gun went Bang!!😜
I’m so sorry I’m coming in late. One of my favs.
BTW, that is an oriental rug you are seeing. They were popular in England back then and these guys are from England as you probably already know.
Robin is the clean shaven one, with the higher voice.
