When Barry was six and the twins Maurice and Robin where 3, their mother heard them singing from their room and thought it was the radio. Greatness was born ...
I simply love Fanny be Tender. I always wondered where they came up with the name Fanny. What a wonderful story about it being their maid. Love ❤️ the BeeGees. Never get tired of their music.
I believe Barry was nine and the twins were six. Barry got a guitar for Christmas. The may have sang together before this, but Barbara (mom) heard them singing later. Such a great story they have. Born to sing, for sure!
I have heard Barry say in several interviews that they were singing together when he was 6 or 7, the twins 3 or 4. He was writing lyrics when he was 8 and by the time he was 9 and got the guitar, the twins were joining him in creating lyrics and they had figured out harmonies. It’s mind-boggling to me that those three little boys were working together musically at such a young age! Then they stuck with it and had mastered their trademark harmony enough that they were performing professionally when Barry was in his early teens, the twins nine or ten! Think they signed a recording deal while still in Australia! Just incredible!
In an interview Maurice said that they seldom do this live because of its complexity. He went on to say there was 26 layers of Harmony on this particular song. I think the reason it is the favorite of so many is 1 the outstanding Harmony and 2 each of the Gibb Brothers sang the lead/solo on the recording. I haven't seen it mentioned in the other comments so I'll go ahead and mention it now. Fanny was their maid when they had first come to the United States to record. They rented a house and it came with a housekeeper / maid and her name was Fannie. The Story Goes that when she found out that they had this song named after her she actually cried. I think I would have too.
The maid/housekeeper/cook was actually the lady that came with the place they rented that Eric Clapton also got when he went to Miami to record at Criterion. When they were rehearsing the song, they weren't using an actual name, and Maurice mentioned that they should pick one and the song would have a better flow. That's when they decided on Fannie as a "Thank you" for such great care and meals, and brought her into the studio, and the tears flowed. ❤😊❤
I think this is another indication that the brothers were just really nice guys and sensitive to people's feelings. (Well they weren't sensitive to reporters feelings. LOL.) She probably had never had such appreciation bestowed on her before or since. I bet she's a fan. If I'm going to have a hard crush on a group I'm glad it's the brothers because they're just nice people. They don't yell at or cuss out the audience like I've seen rather heard other groups do.
I think that what some people don't pick out is that sometimes Robin and Barry will sing a lead at the same time and it sounds like one voice that is slightly different from what each of theirs is alone but it's them together. I love them and all the ways they chose to make their music different. They will be missed greatly as a group but their music will live on forever. Thanks for your help.
Absolutely amazing music from three amazingly talented young men ... total class and style. Unrecognised but has to be one of the greatest songs ever performed and written.
This is the quintessential Bee Gees song because it showcases everything that made them great. Great story about this song. Maurice met Quincy Jones and Quincy said that Fanny was one of his favorite R&B songs of all time. He told Maurice that he tried for years to find someone that could cover the song and that the search was futile because he couldn't find anyone to come close to this performance. That says so much.
BeeGees were just going to title the song Be Tender With My Love but one of the brothers suggested they put a woman's name on it so they put their housekeeper's name on it which was Fanny.
Sometimes it’s hard to tell who’s singing what unless you can see them. Barry said in an interview that Robin’s falsetto is slightly higher than his. But sometimes Maurice sneaks something in there. You got a Bromance dude. Love it!

You hit the nail on the head...”it’s not even fair”. Such natural talent almost doesn’t seem fair. They were so amazingly talented! Keep on going bro! You are on the right track 👍🏻
I love the way the intensity builds in this song. The bass line absolutely drives this song. It's my absolute favorite Bee Gees song, and after all these years it still brings tears to my eyes when I hear it.
Also everyone talks about Barry & Robin having such a great falsetto & ability to harmonize...Maurice's vocals on "Nights On Broadway" are pronounced & phenomenal. If you do watch it make sure to watch the one from Midnight Special 1975
I love to see how blown away you are by these guys... for me it’s like hearing it again for the first time...through you and your reactions. So wonderful to see your appreciation for The Bee Gees. They’re the best.
Great comment. I have loved The Bee Gees since the 60s and they are my favorite group of all time. It is awesome to see new generations discovering their music and reliving the joy of hearing it for the first time through their reactions.
My fav, is the hairy chested cute sexy shy one to the left named Maurice, Robin is in the middle & Barry to the right.....they all had amazing varied falsetto's, incredibly strong chest voices, and sing anything in between!!! Thanks for allowing this old lady to slide back to the 70's, when seemed so much more simple!!! Congrats on having your daughter full time, & the only advice I can give you on raising a daughter, is that we never expect our father's to be perfect or always do the right thing, as long as your heart is in the right place ❤️
Back when music was actually music, done by true artists. Fortunately we have a few young ones coming up, so, while the levy may be dry, the music has not yet died. lol.
My absolute favorite Bee Gee song! The layering of their voices is mind blowing. There will never ever be another group like them. I felt bad when they were bashed at the end of the disco era. People didn't realize the talent these men possessed. I'm so glad that people have come around to see what a musical powerhouse these brothers are. Great job Chad! ❤ 🎶 🎤
Buddy I grew up in the 80's. The Bee Gees were a staple in the time, and their vocals and talents will never be forgotten. These guys pure talent, and it goes on to this day. You crack me up. This was belly rubbing music in 1980, still is. They don't make music like this anymore.
There were two lead singers - Robin and Barry, both had beautiful, very high voices, and Barry did also a lot of falsetto. Maurice had a natural deeper voice and also did falsetti. And he wrote the sick harmonies that make for the incredible sound in songs like this one.
@@CoowallskyMo was not a alcoholic in the late 60's early 70's. Try listening to his song "Railroad" from I believe it was 69' or 70'. Also other songs from his unreleased "Loner" album. It was unreleased because he wrote it during the split in 69' - August 1970. When they got back together, all 3 agreed that they would not release their unpublished solo work. So it never got published. Also listen to his songs from "Cucumber Castle" especially his part in the song that Barry and he sang called "The Lord". Maurice had a very big range that he could sing in.
I was in 9th grade when this came out. This song is raw. It fills my soul. It brings me back to my old bedroom listening to it and belting out the words with them. If you didn't know better you'd think there were 8 people singing this song. I don't know many artists now that have this talent. They all have been or were married for a long time, had children, and produced music for many many others. Yes, they drank and smoked pot... and sadly Andy did his share of cocaine, but they functioned. You rarely heard them curse, they were alway super polite when being interviewed, smiled to their fans.... These guys were one of a kind and I really think this song is on my top 5 songs. So much range and feeling. Okay, I"m done. Thanks for listening.
We were so lucky to have experienced all this music as it came out. The Bee Gees wrongly got a bad rap after the disco era ended despite having had 5 songs in the Billboard top 10 at the same time. Number 11 also was one of theirs. I wish that Maurice and Robin could see these reaction videos and the enduring appreciation for their enormous talent and gift of beautiful music.
The 70's brought us some of the best music other planet. I am sooo lucky I was a teenager when all this was unfolding. We knew back then it was brilliant.
One of the cool things about The Bee Gees is that they developed a two-lead (Barry and Robin) style with Maurice (Barry called him the Harmony expert) harmonizing between the two of them.
Maurice is on bass and his fraternal twin is in center. Barry was the eldest brother, being 3 years older. Barry and Robin shared lead vocals on many of their early songs with Mo filling in the harmonies. The Brothers Gibb (yes, Bee Gees) three part harmony is second to none when they sing in the same room and the same mic.
Funny literally for many decades I thought this song was awesome and a work of art. Now this song is actually get the respect it deserves. Thanks for playing it again.
@@chocoholicprincess1 actually I liked both but you’re right a lot of people just overlooked Maurice , but he had some really awesome vocals ! All of them were gifted though !
@@chocoholicprincess1 Agree 120%. He could do anything from deep baritone to falsetto and could be so smooth and gentle and going to rough sexy (almost bass range) register. Maurice is AMAZING!
I am 72 yrs old..I started watching your channel for the BeeGees..but now I just love your positively and kind, soft spoken words for these troubled days..Thank you
It isn't Maurice, it's Barry. Maurice harmonizes on this track, but the baritone and falsetto is Barry, with Robin joining him on the chorus. EDIT: Sorry, Robin joining him on the bridge and chorus.
Robin (no facial hair) is usually closest to Barry because they blended their voices so often. Maurice always had a beard... so did Barry. The Bee Gees are up there with all the greats!
I think every single one of the Gibb brothers is absolutely gorgeous. And their voices are so beautiful I have never heard anyone come close to these guys. I was so blessed to see them in 1978 it was the best concert I’ve ever gone to in my life. I adore these guys.
Robbin is in the middle with no instrument and black shirt Maurice is in pink/red shirt and of coarse Barry is in a black open button down shirt covering a pink/red t shirt . They were great musicians and excellent writers . I didnt care for disco personally but I loved their earlier stuff including this song that touches the soul .
Thanks for playing one of my favorite songs! Maurice (pronounced Morris) plays bass and Robin's in the middle (they were twins). Isn't this group the very best?! Fanny was a song they almost never played live in concert because of its difficulty (I've read.). They wrote all their own music--incredible writers as well as musicians. I enjoyed your reaction again! Have you seen the Stayin' Alive video yet? Such a great song for these turbulent days. God bless!
Maurice [pronounced "Morris", nickname: Mo; the youngest BeeGee (born 30 minutes after Robin, his twin)] played many instruments & was the musical genius; he also sang the high harmony, above his brothers; & he was the 'man in the middle' acting as referee between his brothers, both lead singers. Mo was so vital to the group, his tragic & unnecessary death ended the BeeGees. FYI, Mo said this song was 'just a bitch to sing'; it's intricate vocals is why it wasn't performed live.
It is so much fun to watch you react, Chad, to this music. I felt EXACTLY the same way. I can't tell you how much fun my friends and I had dancing to this music. It really was a magical time and we loved every minute of it. It was that way all around the world. The girls went wild. And yet, the best part was that they were so humble. Barry will tell you they were songwriters first before anything else; can you believe that? When they took a break in the early 80s, they wrote music for Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, Diana Ross and others. What a total package. Not even the Beatles could top their all around talent.
That one is Maurice pronounced Morris :) They all sounded so much alike it was hard to tell them apart at times. This was their mothers favorite of all of their songs.
There Range is unbelievable these 3 brothers were the best of the best, you listen to Barry's falsetto and Robin's baritone along with Maurice playing the bass ladies & gentleman this is no accident there born with this music in them & there voices are just insane, you can hear Barry's falsetto which is insane then Robin & Maurice come in with an up & down baritone they take turns on it, you know how hard that is wow, just amazing absolutely amazing the 3 of them are, plus the bass & Barry's guitar 1 continues Rythum holding it that is what makes these 3 men special, Bee Gees man oh man wow #1 in my book always till i die. Barry lost 2 great brothers. That will be missed for ever R.I.P. MAURICE & ROBIN.
I never, ever grow tired of hearing this fantastic song! When it was released, I bought my 45 single at The Record Bar then played it over and over - until I literally wore out the vinyl! I finally saved enough to purchase "The Main Course" album. I believe the Gibb brothers were as great writers/performers as Lennon/McCartney.
Hey,I feel you on that, I bought the single myself, back in the day. After that,I’ve been hook every since. I couldn’t stop playing my record. I love these beautiful guys of music. Bee Gees forever.
They wrote the top of the charts songs for : Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton , Samantha Sang , Ivonne Elliman , Olivia Newton John , John Travolta , Tavares , Barbara Streisand , Dione Warwick, and the top of the charts songs for their baby brother “ Andy Gibb “ I live in Miami and when they moved to Miami you could see them buying stuff at the store without body guards, shaking hands and they were down to earth icons, they were just amazing, Rest in peace ; Andy , Robin and the multi instrumentalist Morris or Maurice As somebody said , Maurice was the brains behind Nights On Broadway ( an incredible song also ) I think they were better than the Beatles and they never acted like luminaries or big stars . Bee Gees we’re the Best , and we know it because we grew up with their music .
This video is kind of deceptive though; the camera will be on one, but the lead vocal is actually coming from someone else. I think most of the lead vocal tracks on this one are Barry (tho Robin & Barry sing unison on the chorus, with Mo handling the harmony). Oh, and you’re welcome for the request for this gem. Even tho I was around back then, I am just now discovering the early and later bee gees.
Robin probably did the high lead falsetto vocal in the key change part of the song (or shared). You can clearly hear Robin do the very same in the first verse of Living Together after the opening chorus (1979), at 1:02, or 2:02 a clearly more feminine voice than Barry's ua-cam.com/video/1U9noJETLU0/v-deo.html
@@matmagix3845 don't discount Mo. If you watch the Larry King interview, at one point he asked the brothers who sang What part. And they explain who sang what and he said the high part and mo said that's me. Watch the interview it was a very enlightening interview.
I have always loved the Bees Gees older stuff. I have bern listening to them everyday for months now. I have a much deeper appreciation for their songwriting and arrangements. Their lyrics, vocals and instrumentation are phenomenal, setting them above all others. They seem like good guys too. Rest in peace Robin and Maurice (and Andy).
Maurice said in an interview that Barry and Robin's voices could sound identical and it was hard for others to know who was singing...such as "How deep is your love."
Enjoy watching your reaction to this song and video of the BeeGees and all the other songs you react to of the BeeGees. You do an excellent job and glad l found you I find myself watching you react to Fanny Be Tender and Too Much Heaven over and over again. Thank you Chad ❤️
Maurice (Morris) is on the left playing the guitar and Robin is in the middle. Their voices blend beautifully! They just ooze talent!! Thanks for your great reaction!
In the pink shirt = Maurice. Barry has the beard, crazy gold medallions, and is bigger than the other two. So that leaves Robin, the one who always looks like he's uncomfortable and performing at the high school talent show. I grew up listening to the Bee Gee's as a little kid b/c it was my mom's music. In the 80's I thought they were corny and too soft for my taste. I liked heavy metal. Still do. Now I've rediscovered the Bee Gee's in my late 40's, and I've gone to music school, and I can better appreciate what they created. I too am grateful for their music in this era of autotune (ick), crass video's and lyrics, and the intense stresses of this world we're living with right now. Thanks for reacting to these wonderful songs, written and performed by the wonderful Bee Gee's.
Real natural talent, there won’t ever be another. They are legends and Barry til this is so good looking. RIP Robin, Mo and Andy. Love all four of God sent Angels
Since the 70s The Bee Gees have been filling my life with their amazing sound and music. None better. This was also when Barry's voice was at its best in the 70s...his range was deep and high...Maurice can get high too. and blend in...but this is Robin and Barry hitting the blend and the notes. And they give their best always till the end, every song.❤
Late to this reaction because I just subscribed to your network, which is awesome by the way. As you go through this journey of the Bee Gees you'll be able to appreciate Robin's voice more and the harmony between him and Maurice. They are great together when you don't have Barry's voice in the mix because he's doing his falsetto voice while they're picking up the back up. I just have to make this one observation about them just as they were in life. It's so ironic that Robin was given the name of a beautiful bird we look forward to hearing every spring. Just beautiful.
I absolutely your reactions to the Bee Gees songs! I am also from that era. I grew up listening to the Bee Gees on the radio almost every day. Brought me smiles!! 💖 I appreciated you sharing about your life as a father to your little daughter. God bless you abundantly for that. She is a precious treasure and you are a wonderful, caring father to her. Yes, He is your Guide and your Father, too! Depend on Him for all that you need. Thanks for the smiles from your reactions! From a 70s Bee Gees admirer... 😊
As a songwriter, Main Course is a must listen for any musician or fan of music in general. With Arif Martin at the helm, this is one of the most incredibly produced albums of all time, as well as the most diverse of their career
I love watching these reaction videos because I've been listening to this music for over 4 decades and it's so much fun to see people loving it all these years later. Robin and Maurice (Mo) are twins. Barry is the older brother. Their youngest brother Andy died suddenly when he was 30 of heart failure. Watch the documentary just out. "The Bee Gees:How Can You Mend a Broken Heart". It's great and will tell you the story of their lives. This song, Fanny is one of my favorites.
Get one. It is the brothers at their best and each of them does their own songs so they all get a turn. Amazing tunes I had to buy the cd. Its out of print so good luck getting a good deal mine was 30 bucks
From the “Main Course” album. Back in the 70’s as a teenager, I would lie on the floor in our room with stereo in it, volume cranked, sing and read the jacket cover!
Another gem from the Main Course LP...every song on that album is completely awesome...and they happened before The Bee Gees made the “big time” in 1977...for me, they hit the Big Time back in 1967!!
Robin is the one with 2 voices then again Barry could do that too they enjoyed confusing people playing it back and forth always having fun with the sounds being true brothers gave them special vocals together...
Barry is the one doing the two voices actually. You can hear him singing in the same baritone on the 'do you think I'm gonna stand here' lyric of the song, and also in Nights on Broadway and You Should Be Dancing.
@@Erizedd - Robin is the one singing in "two voices". He sings "Fanny be tender" in falsetto and then switches to "It's all that I've got" in his baritone. The vocal power in that line is all Robin. I've been a fan of the Bee Gees since 1967 and know their voices. They are quite distinct. When they sang together there are times when the two are indistinguishable. In this song Maurice also switches from baritone to falsetto.
Bought this 8 track in 75, not because it has Jive Talkin, nor Nights On Broadway but heard Fanny on the radio and had to have it. One of their best or the best song by the Bee Gees. I think you younger youtubers reacting to this song gets it. This song takes many different directions. Those are the things I also saw in 1975.
According to my music teacher (Fil Henley @WingsofPegsus) said Barry starts the tone and pitch, and Mo and Robin sort of sing around him. They apparently end up singing chords. Thanks for the very nice reaction! BeeGees were their own musical souls.

Maurice (pronounced Morris) is the one with the beard; the other is his (fraternal) twin, Robin. The Bee Gee's were MAGIC!
We knew back then it was brilliant.
same here I was born in 1960 and this was my teenage music
Listen to "For whom the bell tolls" by the Bee Gees, and hear Robin's unique voice!
I have no words to describe this song
One of the cool things about The Bee Gees is that they developed a two-lead (Barry and Robin) style with Maurice (Barry called him the Harmony expert) harmonizing between the two of them.
MASTERPIECE song...thanks Chad!
The Bee Gees are fantastic. The 7os, the best decade for pop music.
It's awesome to watch someone experience this new! Enjoyable to watch!
Amazing..I get chills everytime and I've listened to this song at least a thousand times
Funny literally for many decades I thought this song was awesome and a work of art. Now this song is actually get the respect it deserves. Thanks for playing it again.
There will never be another group like the Bee Gees!!
The bass in this is sick!
Maurice ! He’s got a slightly similar voice to Barry because Maurice could hit those high notes too !
maurice had better falsalto than barry if truth told
@@chocoholicprincess1 actually I liked both but you’re right a lot of people just overlooked Maurice , but he had some really awesome vocals ! All of them were gifted though !
But Robin voice Best really
@@chocoholicprincess1 Agree 120%. He could do anything from deep baritone to falsetto and could be so smooth and gentle and going to rough sexy (almost bass range) register. Maurice is AMAZING!
@@chocoholicprincess1 I believe Maurice had a better falsetto but Barry could sustain
I am 72 yrs old..I started watching your channel for the BeeGees..but now I just love your positively and kind, soft spoken words for these troubled days..Thank you
That's my baby Maurice, he brings it in this song. He has a deeper voice than the other 2.,💞💞💞💞💞💞
It isn't Maurice, it's Barry.

Great reaction!!! I love how much you appreciate their talents. Crazy, crazy good.
I think every single one of the Gibb brothers is absolutely gorgeous. And their voices are so beautiful I have never heard anyone come close to these guys. I was so blessed to see them in 1978 it was the best concert I’ve ever gone to in my life. I adore these guys.
One of my all time favorite songs by them. Gives me goosebumps. The harmonies are awesome. Just adore this one ☝️!
So much SOUL in this song. Starts slow and it only goes up and high like a ship to the stars.
I've been a massive fan for 40 years! The rabbit hole is deep...over so many decades, you're going to have a great time
It is so much fun to watch you react, Chad, to this music.
I love how you appreciate them
That one is Maurice pronounced Morris :) They all sounded so much alike it was hard to tell them apart at times. This was their mothers favorite of all of their songs.
My favorite group ever!
Oh man, Robin sounds like a million bucks!
The British invasion of my heart. Love the Bee Gees so much. Robin, Maurice and Andy in heaven with Jesus. 🌟💞💙🙂♥️💘💝💚❤️💐✨🧡💖
Better
Of course they were better
Hey,I feel you on that, I bought the single myself, back in the day. After that,I’ve been hook every since. I couldn’t stop playing my record. I love these beautiful guys of music. Bee Gees forever.
That are much better than the beatles
They wrote the top of the charts songs for : Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton , Samantha Sang , Ivonne Elliman , Olivia Newton John , John Travolta , Tavares , Barbara Streisand , Dione Warwick, and the top of the charts songs for their baby brother “ Andy Gibb “
I live in Miami and when they moved to Miami you could see them buying stuff at the store without body guards, shaking hands and they were down to earth icons, they were just amazing, Rest in peace ;
Andy , Robin and the multi instrumentalist Morris or Maurice
As somebody said , Maurice was the brains behind Nights On Broadway ( an incredible song also ) I think they were better than the Beatles and they never acted like luminaries or big stars .
@@matmagix3845 Love "Living Together!" If you didn't know it you'd think it was a woman singing Robins part!!lol. It's fantastic!😉
I cant make a day go by without listening to my Bee Gees.
So glad I knew of them from the 60 s till NOW 🎵🎶🎧🎤❣
I have always loved the Bees Gees older stuff. I have bern listening to them everyday for months now. I have a much deeper appreciation for their songwriting and arrangements. Their lyrics, vocals and instrumentation are phenomenal, setting them above all others. They seem like good guys too. Rest in peace Robin and Maurice (and Andy).
One of their very best songs ever.
I must have listened to this song many more times this year than I ever did back in the 70’s… and I’m loving it
Maurice said in an interview that Barry and Robin's voices could sound identical and it was hard for others to know who was singing...such as "How deep is your love."
The combination of Barry and Robin singing together is an incredible sound 😮
Enjoy watching your reaction to this song and video of the BeeGees and all the other songs you react to of the BeeGees. You do an excellent job and glad l found you I find myself watching you react to Fanny Be Tender and Too Much Heaven over and over again. Thank you Chad ❤️
Maurice (Morris) is on the left playing the guitar and Robin is in the middle. Their voices blend beautifully! They just ooze talent!! Thanks for your great reaction!
The BeeGees have saved my sanity
I've been a fan for 49 years. I was blessed to see the Bee Gees perform live in concert at the Oakland Coliseum in 1979.
Absolutely Brothers BGG GEES ..Guauu ..I love Robin Gibb ❤💜👏👏👏
Bee Gees up there with the very best, this is a fantastic song, and yet hardly known, lost among all the other magic they produced.
Never a more appropriate name than Robin, the songbird.
This is definitely the best BeeGees song! Makes me cry the emotion is so strong--especially coming from guys!!
One of my MOST favorites from these guys. Their voices just make me melt. I so miss them today.
Buds in ears...turning them on right now...my fix for the day !
Another gem from the Main Course LP...every song on that album is completely awesome...and they happened before The Bee Gees made the “big time” in 1977...for me, they hit the Big Time back in 1967!!
Only song I can listen to all day and still want more. An addicting masterpiece !!!
God blessed them with multiple talents in everything they sing.
This song is incredible The The Bee Gees You know I'm in the loss for words they are incredible
I DANCED TO THEM FROM THEIR BEGINNING TO THERE END...SOME THINGS JUST MAKE LIFE WORTH LIVING...
