As someone who has lived and worked in London for decades, the city has now lost its vibrancy; many shops, even those in Knightsbridge, are now closed and boarded up; the whole place feels down at heel, depressed and still sinking. This is what the ruinous Khan has done.

Look at Market Street in San Francisco. It's dead since private cars were banned. Shops, bars, restaurants and even banks have closed down.
The odd cyclist steers round tumbleweed, and that's it.
Oxford Street is next.

The companies would prefer that as they can spend less on money on renting stores in expensive towns and build larger outlets/warehouses outside of town or only Internet based sales.

Back in the 1990's Solihull town centre was pedestrianised but at least the council had the good idea that car parks were built around the pedestrianised zone to allow people to still drive into the town and visit it.
