Damian Dame - Right Down To It
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 тра 2007
- Damian Dame was an R&B duo consisting of Debra Jean "Deah Dame" Hurd (September 20, 1958-June 27, 1994) and Bruce Edward "Damian" Broadus (September 13, 1966-June 27, 1996).
In 1991, Damian Dame became the first act signed to LaFace Records. The duo's self-titled debut spun off two radio hits, "Exclusivity" and "Right Down To It."
Right before Damian Dame began working on their sophomore album, tragedy struck. Deah was killed in an automobile accident in June of 1994. She was just 35 years old. Damian succumbed to colon cancer in June of 1996, at the age of 29. Ironically, his death came two years to the day of his groupmate's passing.

I have a nostalgic heart . I'll find myself on UA-cam just looking up commercials, tv shows, cartoons, music from the 80s that shaped my childhood . Can honestly say I love Damian Dame . I'm 39 but at a young age , video soul gave me the videos but listening to my dad's stereo with the oversized headphones as a little boy , had me hypnotized by music. Artists like this are why my heart will always keep pure music alive as the memory of great artists remains an unforgettable treasure .
Video soul is one show that should have lasted an eternity
@ultimate dark night very well said I concur even 2 years later anytime anywhere in the stratosphere for all eternity I will always love Damien Dame the group they were wonderful together may we all meet each other one day 🙏🏿🕊️🔥💯
Me Too
I find myself doing the same thing.
Same here I be looking up nostalgic music like this plus cartoon and late 80s and early ninety tv shows including commercials etc
This is my jam. Rest in peace to both of them
So sad
Kinda looks like Eddie Murphy. That straightened conk haor is not good though.
Anim8or Sk8er mine too still pump it 2020
Were u born in the 1960s?
So sad that they were sacrifice same date just two years apart
This generation will never understand how DOPE the 90s were.
Damian Dame was the first act signed to LaFace records in 1990. Their whole album was dope as hell. R.I.P. to the both of them. Classic R&B music, wish this type of music was around today.
No talent or musicals instruments skills 😢
This group needs a UNSUNG episode ❤️❤️❤️
Classic! It has a Shalamar sound to it. I’ve always loved this song! I can hear Babyface too.
Yes, sounds just like "I Don't Want to Be the Last to Know" by Shalamar.
Well Face was signed to the same label as Shalamar. And since Damian Dame was on LaFace, you know 'Face was gonna touch it some kind of way.
Still better than most music out now days...
Yes Indeed

@babyEroose, you are ABSOLUTELY right. There should be an "Unsung" on this remarkable duo. Damian Dame's story needs to be told. This group would have been the direction that R&B took beginning in the early 90s. Bruce "Damian" Broadus was a songwriter, singer, producer and brilliant arranger who had taught himself piano as a child. Debra Hurd had a self-titled album years before they got together as the first act on LaFace Records around 1991.
Not only did their genius come out in their music, but their business acumen shined through. As industry veterans they knew how not to be exploited by the industry and had creative control of their music. I'll argue they were actually the best R&B act of that era because of their exceptional musicianship and studio knowledge.
Sadly, Debra was involved in an auto accident that proved fatal in 1994 and Damian died of colon cancer two years to the day. Those of us who truly love soul music still wonder what would have happened to the genre if they had lived. It's clear to us they would have been so influential that the sound of soul today would have been markedly different.
Mark it good facts 👏 💯
REMEMBERING DEBRA JEAN HURD "DEAH DAME"
(SEPTEMBER 20, 1958 - JUNE 27, 1994) [09/20/2019]
The music world has lost a helluva lot with the loss of Damian Dame....Such a tragic story, such amazing tunes. Thank you
This song has a real "another sad love song" type of feel to it. Another talented sound that Babyface owned. RIP, Damien Dame. Maybe if we're lucky we'll see some more of this old style of talent in the future someday.
Such a shame they both died so young. May they both rest in peace.
tragic so young and talented life is precious I have children in late twenties early thirties parents shouldn't be burying their children!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's so ironic that they died 2 years apart on the same day. Debra Hurd was killed in a car accident on June 29th 1994 & Damian ( his real name is actually Bruce Broadus, rapper snoop dogg is his first cousin)
Who is Debra Hurd?
@@shanitrahan9904 Debra Hurd is the female in the video
@@shanitrahan9904 Debra Hurd went by Deah Dame
I freakin' loved this song 'then' and now. It is a classic.
Back when fellas had that hair slayed & laid lol..IMX, Mint Condition & Damian are some that come to mind with the fresh hair
Hey Admiral, honorary mention to D.J. Quik LOl
did you know that Chilli from TLC was a dancer for Damian Dane. that is where they got her from
Chilli's in this video. 😎 She's the one in shorts dancing by the pool.

I remember they came here to the Virgin Islands they were wonderful..Broke my heart when I heard they both passed..So blessed they graced us with their talents..RIP!!
I remember I wanted my hair like hers back in the day! I loved their music. RIH
Was still in high school when this jam dropped. Memories of when life was simple.
He kept his hair laid. This was the jam! OK "Unsung" where you at? Stop airing foolishness & "Get Right Down To It" & air a "Damian Dame" segment. Uh, Thanks!
Agree. Unsung needs to do it right and show their story. Overdue!
Preach
I don't think we'll get a Unsung for a group that wasn't even popular they didn't have no Billboard hits their solo album didn't even sell they're going to have an unsung 1 song that wasn't even a Hit. When they do unsung they do it on people that were popular these people were not popular enough for Unsung!
@@billy4580 They had hits & they should do an Unsung on them.
I would definitely love to see them on Unsung
I just learned that they passed away so young. I hate that the music industry will forget about black entertainers. REST in Peace King and Queen
I still love this today.. I use to play this song in my brother's car all the time and I will still play this song now..RIP to both of them
This will never get old 💎🔥
In 1994, Damian Dame was preparing to record their sophomore album when tragedy stuck, Debra Hurd died on Monday evening June 27,1994 at 35 when her car skidded out of control during a Thunderstorm in Atlanta,GA. Damian himself grieving the sudden loss of his good friend, was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in October '94 shortly after starting work on his solo album "199Sex". He succumbed to the disease after an 18 month battle on Thursday June 27,1996. He was just 29.
A sad and heartbreaking end for the both of them. They ironically died within two years of each other on the same date.
😢
+Tornado1994 So sad. RIP
OMG. I had no idea that's what happened to Damian Dame. I loved their music. This track still sounds gorgeous today.
Tornado1994 Wow,Thanks for sharing this info I had no idea😔
Sorry, but this isn't true about Damian. He was on drugs really bad and had AIDS and gave it to his wife Carol.
This was the cut!!!!!!!!! RIP Damien Dame So sad! Damien's hair was whipped like hell! I got my hair cut like that because of him! RIP the good ones always go first!
Damian Dame ❤️🙌🏾 A talented duo that will never be forgotten!
I loved those two ! Sad that no one remembers how good they were. Rest well y’all!

This song still sends me into orbit every time I hear it. I am deeply saddened they both died on my birthday. Rest in peace dear ones.
Wait they passed? Whoa
STILL LUVVVVING THIS IN 2020
LOVED THEM THEN NOW AND ALWAYS GOD I KEEP THEM IN MY HEART ALWAYS!
One of the saddest stories in music history, right next to the death of Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez and the demise of TLC.
I had the cassette tape of Damian Dame. This, "Virgin Island" and "Love Come Near Me" are great slow jams.
R.I.P. Deah Dame & Damian
When I’m crying was a good one too
2019 and I'm still in love with this song!
Man this is like 1992 or 91 the nineties had the best music
This is the perfect example of #unsung. Interesting story with a touch of macabre.
This song is STILL THEE SONG!!! These are the type of songs we are missing these🥲days. Rest up to both of them, you are truely missed🙏🏽
RIP TO BOTH OF THEM

This was the JAM! RIP Damian Dame!
RIP 2 both members of Damian Dame. I loved this group.
RIP this my jam forever. I'm truly saddened they're no longer here. But the legacy of their music remains.
Such an interesting band. They need an unsung!
agreed. sad story but the music lives on forever.
+Kechia Parker they along with intro (kenny greene), chris bender, pharcyde & mista ( to see what happened to other members)
Amma Appiah I've been preaching it for the longest!!!! Its time that their story be told and unsung is perfect 🙌🏾
@@missdenise3039 I'm hoping they will. I'm trying to keep Debra's name out there and hopefully someone from the show will run across it
yes love know about how gotten started meet each other
I love this song and it is sad that they both died I wish I could've seen them concert RIP you'll never be forgotten 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
I thought it was just me, but yhea that is eerie, but then again I think in some way god new that they needed to be together, for reason's unknown to us, but he knew that they needed to together, and sadly for us he had a special way of doing it. But he needed these two great talents more than we did may they rest in eternal and everlasting peace! I will always be a fan Damian Dame!
I totally agree! He does look like Real. It's very eerie how both of them died the same day two years apart. R.I.P
Listening in 2021! This song will always be on my playlist! RIH to two amazing, talented artists!
damn we would get off work on fridays in the military me & 2 of my boys from va. & n.c. and head to san jose california to hit the clubs. they would bump this track and people would get their dance on. man those were the days 80's early 90's. man these 2 died to young. sometimes it's makes you wonder how can life be so crude to good people.this is when r&b had substance, creativity, passion, love, & a real meaning. long live the 70's 80's early 90's. this era will never be duplicated again.
I'm absolutely in love with this song, with this duo and with new jack swing. So good we had them!
Loved them, I love how his hair is laid........ i just love his look
Babyface and associates best composition
This is my jam...I was in love with this song. I find myself singing it still to this day.
Seems like yesterday. A well loved classic.
I LOVE THIS GROUP'S MUSIC! What a tragic ending for the both of them...gone TOO soon!! ♥
I remember when this song came out. Can't believe it was 30 years ago. As I hear this song again, I can hear the sample to TLC's "Baby, Baby, Baby" also. So tragically that they both passed away on the same day 2 years apart.....R.I.H🌹🌹🌹🌹
Man i remember when i bought this on cassette man she was fine RIP to you both man they was going to be the next biggest group on Laface records 😪😢
R&B at it's best!!!
Back in the day this song always made me Happy! It still does!
2023 AND I MISS THEM SOOO MUCH , I PRAY WE SEE YOU GUYS ON THE OTHER SIDE 🙏🏾👑🔥
I love this song...but it makes me sad thinking they both died so young, on the same day two years apart. Life is precious...brothas, I know it's not something folks talk about, but GET YOUR COLON CHECKED. We're more susceptible to that cancer than other people. RIP Bruce and Debra.
Rest in Peace!!! My dad told me that they have not had a group that was a duo sing like this since Damian Dame!!!
It took my lady/wife a good minute to figure this out about me. IJS, How You Doing... THIS A CLASSIC SONG! RIP 2 YOU BOTH & THANK YOU. I LOVE YOU, MISS YOU AND WILL ALWAYS CHERISH YOUR MUSIC. GOD BLESS YOU BOTH... IJS
I loved this group. I remember borrowing my dad's copy on tape & playing the album over & over when this song came out.. This song & "Exclusivity" were my favs. R.I.P. 2 both members.
Baby, baby baby. Two Virgos singing 🎤 in heaven to each other. RIP Virgos ♏️ rule the world.
This was really good group and it's a tragedy that there both dead and two years apart may they both rest in peace this was a classic and masterpiece of a jam.
Rip to both of y’all 😢❤
I remember this song and "exclusively", well. He does sound like Babyface on here. he probably coached him in the studio on phrasing and such.
Wooooooow! I remember seeing them perform at Budweiser Superfest back in the day. GREAT group, GREAT memories & music.🎶
This was my favorite song when it was out.
R.I.P. to the both of them. I really enjoyed their music.
Classic material.... 91' was the shit.....#rip both artist...this song kept LaFace doors open to bring the world everything that came after....#salute
Damn shame they both passed away too soon. This is a straight up classic joint for all time.
This is a good jam. May they both RIP
They were beautiful and stylish all in one❤❤
Damn.. words can not express how I feel right now... I just can not believe that they are gone... Such a wonderful duo. You Tube is a beast they have eveything from a-z and the inside news as well. Damian Dame you will be missed! RIP
Back to back bangers! 90's my youth Rest in Power!
RIP to Both...They may be gone but their music still lives on #ClassicCut
This was my jam!!! The 90's were blazin!!! I miss those days!!!
This was a easy groove, in my opinion the best they came with...tragic ending to Damien and the Same, but this song is still in my rotation...beautiful lyrics and an easy rolling melody.
*Dame
Deah died in a vehicular accident in 1994. Strangely, Damian died of colon cancer the exact same date two years later. One of music histories most fascinating and eerie moments.
Some people don't remember but I do I was a fan #rip #greatmusic
I definitely remember this video and the song being on the Detroit radio stations
They were nice. Brings back sweet memories of a time gone by.
Waiting TVone for their Unsung...just waiting.
I know, right?!
What's the holdup?
they really didn't do much in their careers. Debra released an album in 1983 that flopped so she was dropped. she then sang background for some LaFace productions before the Damian Dame album. to fill in the time they'll just talk about their deaths for the entire hour and interview family members. that would be too depressing and their families shouldn't have to relive all of that again
PhuckHue2 I respect your input but with all due respect, talking about tradgedy and hardships that classic acts faced making it to the top and after they made it to the top IS basically Unsung. Their debut showed a ton of potential and through death cut that short making them Unsung. I'm not completely sure but I also think they have some song writing credits for other artists. There have been plenty of Unsungs where the artist had several "flops" and label hopping before making it big with ONE song or album and then disappearing because their sound wasn't right for the times, vices, or crappy management of their career.
I'm also wanting them to do one on the Force MDs (can't remember if they have or not). They did their thing throughout the 80s and 3/5 members passed young. Stacey Lattisaw had one and I only remember that duet she did with Johnny Gill. I also think Tevin Campbell should have one (if he wanted one) and that more rap acts should have Unsungs. So far I think there has only been one for Too Short, Heavy D, and Whodini.
PhuckHue2 They've also done Unsung's for people who didn't need them. I loved all these acts, but Sly Stone, Eddie Kendricks, and David Ruffin though entertaining did not need Unsungs. Their careers and influence were not forgotten; they got awards for their music contribution, and The Temps as well as the Family Stone, were inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame decades ago. Their whole Unsungs were basically "well they weren't known as individuals". So what, their biggest success happened while in a group, at least it happened. Their contribution to music is still memorable and they have infuenced many acts. There are many musicians who dont get no where near the recognition.
I also think Five Star, Soul II Soul, or Loose Ends would be interesting, but those are all British R&B acts and I don't know if the show only wants to stick with American acts or what. Sorry for the long replies, I just think my mind gets going when you think about how many black artists/acts truly never got their just dues.
babyEroose I hope they do Soul II Soul as well. I'd also love to see them do The Family Stand.
RIP both of You...💜💜💜.... Celebrity underrated’s video is what sent me here... loved this song .
