Given some upgrades though, the defender, I would agree, would be much more competition, despite the workhorse that the hummer is...

Dudes....great video, nice wheelin', but you are WAY off the trail & NOT treading lightly...not a good example of how most of us enjoy the wilderness with our Hummers. Otherwise, VERY cool scenery! And the Defender needs some better tires....
I agree with Hummvee21, and im glad that he is being very fare to land rover even thought he apperes buy his/your username to be a hummer fan. If you got off road tires then it would do a lot better. Also the landy is on 205 tires were it should have 235 or larger, so it reduces ground clearence. The isuzu as you say didnt stand a chance.
i agree with pergazak THEY didn't show alot of footage of the 90 as they were trying to make the two cars look even... landrover every day.. mainly as the hummer probably spent 1000 dollars in fuel getting up the hill and the 90 virtually nothing...although i am american the british landy is the best offroad car.
@adpmol nah man the defender has locking rear and front diffs plus low range now depending if it 1999+ it will have six gears and kicks the hummers ass plus everyone knows the defender is better than the hummer plus the hummer weighs 3 tonnes give or take 300kg the defender weighs 2.2tonne newer ones weigh 1.95 tonne
Just a quick note to Hummer haters. The HMMWV is one of the best purpose built off road vehicles of all time. BUT you have to know how to drive it using the brake induced dif-lock option. When you do this it cannot be stopped. As far as the Defender goes, put bigger tires a lift and lockers and it is fine. In the configuration shown in the video, well, it is nowhere near as capable as an HMWWV. PERIOD. Land Rovers in stock configuration are not as good as a fully locked and lifted 4x4. PERIOD.
Actually the Hummer is way better in "Stock" form than any defender. I have seen stock Defendersw utterly fail in easy hill climbs that Hummers and even stock Jeeps made without difficulty.
I think the Hummer is definitely the better performing vehicle, but it seems, from what I've gathered, that the defender is more reliable as far as durability is concerned. On an unrelated note, jeeps simply flat out fail in both categories and they're overpriced to boot. But ya, I'd certainly have the hummer.

this video is junk, a totally unfair test the hummer has new looking tires on while the land rovers are battered. so it shows then how good the land rover is because it done that ,with rubbish on road tires. while the fuel gulper aka the hummer has way better tires on .this makes the test unfair

But if nobody has to pay to listen to it then I don't have to pay them for its use, that's what the law says. Why should WMG have the right to dictate what we can and cannot listen to. It amases me a hummer has a 6.5 petrol letter engine and the landy a 2.5 diesel.
Both vehicles need lockers.
