    Custom table:
    He accidentally summoned a power-armored Cthulhu that proceeded to confusedly look around, ask if the sorcerer wanted to make a deal (the sorcerer did not), eat a bug, and fly off with a large jet pack.
    the actual text in the table was "Summon a neutral power-armor cthulhu" it was a one in a hundred chance

      A 1% chance is orders of magnitude higher than your odds of being struck by lightning twice. Did the sorcerer know them in advance- maybe they had dabbled with a little warlockery in the past, but had never quite settled on pacting with a patron? Could be an old flame, so as to speak.

    I was a goblin wild magic sorcerer called Bing Bam. I was surrounded by enemies and in an attempt to knock a few of them out I casted fireball centered on myself. My reasoning was even if I rolled max damage I wouldn’t go down. Welllllll I play with a couple of home brew interesting rules at my table and one of which was when you don’t roll your wild magic threshold the number you need to roll increases by 1; so after 1 spell cast that didn’t trigger a surge a 2 or lower would trigger a surge and so on and so on. I forgot my surge threshold was 10. So I cast my fire ball and what do you know a 10. I roll on my home brew table for combat spells (I have separate tables for combat, utility, necromancy, illusion, etc) and I roll the option that raises the spell to 1d10 level with 10 being a reroll. I roll a handy dandy 9 and all of a sudden my lovable coked-out goblin was in the center of a roiling mass of hellfire. I fail my save roll some insane damage and insta killed myself and all of my attackers. On the bright side the Barb and Paladin both made their saves and got stabilized. Let this be a lesson to all of you; if a wild magic sorcerer is to die they shall do so by no hand other than their own

    Imagine fighting a mighty and infamous dragon tyrant, and after being struck, one of your fellow combatants is engulfed in a constant fiery explosion which shoots out a unicorn and, when the smoke clears, all that is left of the combatant is a pile of ash. So I was in a campaign that was very much based around nordic mythology. And my character was a wild magic sorcerer who thought he was a reincarnated giant who was given his powers by his old life (he got them from a cosmic mishap that scrambled his brain.) At about level 7, we came across a village who like really loved giants. We were trying to get them to release an innocent person, so when my sorcerer entered the prison and told the guards to let the npc go, he naturally said, “I was a giant in my last life, let me through now or die,” to them. When asked to confirm this (failed persuasion check [DM’s choice, since he was trying to persuade them to believe something he believed]), he insanely casted a spell hoping for a surge (he casted light on a stick in his backpack). He surged, and I rolled a 24. The effect that turns your skin blue. Ice giants have blue skin in this world. And that’s how our party got a small militia willing to fight for them anywhere at any time for any reason.

      I ran a homebrew with Norse Mythology. Wild Magic Druid, god that was fun, when confronted with Fenris (who in my homebrew is female, and is associated with the cycle of life and death. Functionally a divine forest fire that clears the way for new life) tried to cast a couple different spells, each one failing, until one...my homebrew wild magic table...includes an effect where you turn the target into an infant.
      He turned Fenris into a puppy, with no memories of her past. And raised the God Devourer.
      His reasoning?
      "she only became vengeful and spiteful because of the way she was treated by the other Gods when young. They feared her and what she mean to them, so they tried to break her, sealing their own fate."
      This is how a Neutral Good Wild Magic Druid completed the campaign, in session 3, of what was supposed to be a 20+ session campaign, because the goal was to bring an end to the cycle of Ragnarok.
      Originally i was going to have them fight Odin and Loki both to bring the battle of the gods to a stalemate.
      I'm not even mad, because the group said 'why dont we keep going, and just see whats in the world? the Gods dont know Fenris is a puppy, so we can still run most of it.'
      They treated Fenris like a puppy. one of our artistically talented players did a big art piece of the party, curled up around fire, with a 12 foot long, 700lb 'puppy' curled around them.
      I just...wish i could find the old copy i have somewhere, but picture a big black wolf puppy, curled around a Dragonborn Paladin, A Gnome Ranger, a Human Druid, and pair of Elves, one a fighter, one a Warlock. just...i loved it.
      I even gave the Druid a full 3 levels in Warlock at the end, because Fenris regained her memories, but had the new memories to temper her anger. So he has a divine patron, who give him 3 abilities in my homebrew.
      He gains 1d6 HP for every enemy he kills in battle (resets after a long rest).
      He gains 1d12 to every attack roll. (so if he rolls a d20, he rolls a d12 and adds the result to his initial roll)
      He rolls at advantage when fighting any god or godlike entity.

    Out of curiosity in regards to that first story, I looked up if there was an actual Time Limit for the "Potted Plant" result of the Wild Magic Surge Table. It specifically mentions that you're turned into said Potted Plant "until the start of your next turn," so the Sorcerer should have been turned back much sooner than that. I guess the party did things slightly differently, and it made for a funny story regardless.

    Okay, so I was playing a goblin Wild Magic Sorcerer, and after I use my magic to drive away some enemies who were keeping us from a basketball court (long story), I end up rolling a wild magic surge. The result: I keep rolling each round for the next minute. This uncontrolled torrent of chaos starts off reasonably enough, growing a feather beard, creating a fog cloud, summoning a modron, harmless stuff. Then, I get a result that says that if I die in the next minute, I reincarnate as another race. It was at this moment that the fighter gets spooked and tries to kill my character to stop the chaos, and he succeeds (it's difficult, though, since my character also spontaneously got the Regenerate spell from the surge, but the fighter managed). My character immediately proceeds to come back to life as a half-orc, and wouldn't you know it, the Wild Magic Surge gives me another reincarnation. Guess what spell effect targeted my character at the surrounding radius next, Fireball. So, my character explodes, dies again, and comes back as a bugbear. TL;DR, my character died twice and lived her life as three different races.

    The wild sorcerer is a double edge sword that is fun to play, the surges could either help harm or harmless like cast confusion and fire ball on yourself. You can summon a unicorn or gain resistance to all damage. You hair hair can fall out and your skin turn blue.
    The wild sorcerer can also cause everyone to go invisible or cause necromantic damage to other creatures to regain hit-points. The chaos of the wild sorcerer could help the enemy for example fighting a red dragon and you turn it invisible at the worst time.

    So back in 2nd edition AD&D, I was running a party, there was a wild mage from the Tome of Magic. Now this party had been going for quite some time and was around level 12 at this point, so they are being chased by some army I really don't remember it was over 20 years ago, but this will haunt me to the end of time. The Wild mage decided to Cast, Vortex, which is a level variant spell (it does different damage depending on your level, and at his level, it does 12 d4/ 12d6 depending on the creature affected by it.) and calls for a wild surge roll. what does he roll? 58 on percentile, what does that do? Let me tell you, ~clears throat~ ahem, "Spell takes physical form of free-willed elemental and cannot be controlled by caster. Elemental remains for the duration of spell. Touch of the elemental causes spell effect (THAC0 equal to caster's aka 12D4 per strike)" so he throws it the maximum distance from the party (30 yards) in the first place and the duration is 1d4+11 rounds. so this 7' tall elemental of pure chaos magic is now thrashing the enemy. The party looks at the mage, he looks at the elemental like a proud parent and says, ok let's go, and they leave. as the party is running they hear off In the distance a large explosion, one stipulation of the Vortex spell is that "Each time a creature is struck there is a 5% chance that the vortex will explode in a wild surge, If the vortex causes a wild surge, the spell ends immediately. I rolled several times for a few rounds while the party hauled ass out of there, and it happened. so I rolled on the table, 100, (facepalm) "Spell effectiveness (range, duration, area of effect, damage, Etc) increases by 200% so basically it triples in size and explodes for 36 d4 worth of damage in a 15 foot radius. in AD&D 2nd edition that's a pretty big chunk of damage, needless to say, the party got away.

    Assuming it's exactly 3 seconds, the gravity is equal to earth's, and not taking into account wind resistance, the staircase comes to about 30m, by my calculations, only because I don't know if it should be 9.86x3, or 9.86^3.

    • @odedkhazon8542
      @odedkhazon8542 3 роки тому +2

      Not taking Wind Resistance into acount, a fall of 3 seconds would be:
      Distance = g * time^2
      (Assuming she just dropped it, and so gave it no speed herself)
      So in this case that’d be:
      Distance = 9.81 * 3^2 = 9.81 * 9 = 88.2m
      Which in D&D terms is ~295ft for D&D context.

    • @KurisuBlaze
      @KurisuBlaze 2 роки тому

      @@odedkhazon8542 I think the calculation for a falling object is that for each second it is falling, the amount of distance fell in that second is half the sum of its speed at the beginning of the second and its speed at the end of that second. So second 1 would be (0 + 32)/2, 16 feet, second 2 would be (32+64)/2, or 48 feet, and second three would be (64+96)/2, or 80 feet. 16 + 48 + 80 = 144 feet. Or 14d6 damage. That ignoring wind resistance, however, and the fact that terminal velocity is apparently 83.3 feet per second according to Xanathar.

At the time, I was using a unicorn as my online avatar. So, he makes the joke that he summoned the DM. I call out "You see a strange pink unicorn suddenly materialize next to you. In front of her is a strange looking board along with several dice. She looks around, confused, then begins to roll the dice as the monsters in front of you lunge at you to attack." We all had to sit back and laugh for about 5 minutes before combat could continue. Of course, any time I had to roll any dice, the unicorn had to stop and roll.

So, on one adventure, the party was going to a town called Meadhaven which, obviously, had a lot of bars. My sorcerer Zaphrod, thought it would be a good idea to get drunk, and then start casting spells (I don't recall which one). He immediately failed the role, and summons a massive fireball (homebrew table) that annihilated the entire town, derailing the campaign for several sessions, and leading to a permanent ban on alcohol for my sorcerer (which he is almost constantly ignoring).

    During a mission with my group and a couple of kids we were looking after for a big task, we had to run an errand and eventually find some Karen goblins we had to fight. Our drunk fist monk made a check (can't remember what) and he rolls a nat 1. *BRUH.mp3* Wild magic! I rolled an 8, the DM is dying of laughter as he's like 'OH NO!!!!" then he closes his book to check on the list of wild magic effects. I cast Fireball centered on myself. Almost all but two goblins died, and the little girl we had with us of the two kids failed her dex save yet everyone else passes. The interesting bit, she failed her dex save with a Nat 1. *BRUH.mp3* WILD MAGIC AGAIN! I roll, and I get teleported to the Aetherial Plane and she's just there, scarred and burned. My own Wild Magic Sorcerer (homebrewed into Pathfinder 1E) is relatively new, so I can only think of 2 surges. "Swap places with your target" and "your spell bounces back at you."
    The second would have been "swap minds with your target," but the GM vetoed it because we were fighting a (mindless) giant mutant zombie centipede.

    Ok I got one, this was awhile back when I was in college, we were playing 2nd Ed AD&D, I was playing a homebrew wild mage, instead of using wild magic his surges came from the fact he got kicked.... err decided to leave mage school. He had learned enough of the basics so he was winging it from there. So in 2nd edition you were only supposed to roll to see if you had a wild surge on level ranging spells if I remember right, but since my mage was winging it on ever spell we ALWAYS rolled. (Also if I got a wild surge only the surge effect happened, not the intended spell also) It was cool at first as it also could raise (or lower) the level you cast at, sometimes I'd get an extra magic missile, sometimes less. This was supposed to be a one shot but we all liked our characters so much we turned it into a campaign. But switched DMs, the mage became a npc and his player our new DM, now he LOVED mages but HATED wild mages (or maybe just mine because of the back story).... thus he ALWAYS gave me a wild surge. so instead of a 1 in 20 chance, its a 20 in 20 chance. (this is how I got good at rolling d6, the damage die of a quarterstaff lol) So my character figures out his spells are getting more and more chaotic as he only had a base knowledge of magic and he's trying to do more complex magic (at least that was my head canon reasoning for the increase in wild surges) So between me and the kender luck cleric(yes we also had a kender) the DMs never had to roll random encounters lol
    So we go to this town where they had an evil priest for a tyrant, the DM had planned for us to level up with side quests helping the towns people discovering rebels then slowly make our way up the evil priest's tower. Well if I remember right from a failed stealth check to keep our voices down, we were ambushed by the evil' priests acolytes, I instinctively in a panic cast magic missile, everyone yells "Noooooo!!!" But it was too late, the DM fake rolls a d20 says I got a wild surge, then rolls the effect, he might have been actually rolling the effect tho. Anyways, me and my target's mind switches places. But since our bodies aren't attuned to our types of magic neither can cast magic, I had for the most part stopped casting anyways so beat up my own body with the priests staff, and on a good persuasion roll convinced the party I was me. So I then came up with a plan, I honestly think the DM was wanting me to quit the game or re-roll a new character as he was making me think this might be permanent, but instead I just strolled into the tower and scouted it out, found out there was a spiral stairs going up the tower or a magic elevator straight to the evil priests throne room. I go see him and there is only like 2 inept guards, the thought being during our ambush more would rush in to surround him, but when he feels safe, just 2. So I go let the party know....
    Well then I take them to the tower, tell the guard they are mercenaries that are offering to protect Boss from the group of adventurers that were over heard plotting against him. As no one knew what they looked like but the acolytes we killed and the one I was now controlling they believed us. With a good story and good rolls I got them an audience with the boss, straight up the elevator past all the guards. As soon as we come in and see its still just him and the 2 inept guards we jump them and easily destroy him pushing him out a window in his tower he exploded on death and the tower starts to crumble we make dex saves and make it out alive landing in the water as the tower was on the shore.... we lived, ALL the evil acolytes and their boss priest were dead and the shore line re-shapped... and we were still only like level 3 I think and this was supposed to be a boss we weren't going to fight for like several more sessions....
    We then switched dm's again, and the old one took his mage back over as a pc, the new dm said shortly after me and the evil acolyte switch our bodies back, turned him over to the town to be tried and left to follow clues we found in town that the evil priest was just a lackey of a bigger bbg, along the way tho the mage would mysteriously disappear, we'd get jumped by something, barely win (he was rolling wild surges correctly now so I could actually use spells) and then the DM would bring the mage back after we finished.... the final straw was having to fight a hydra where we barely survived when the mage popped back the rogue killed him... the player quit the group and we never played with him again.

    In a campaign where I was the DM, we had FOUR (4) wild mages. That's right ! FOUR of them. Also, the chance of a surge was 3% per level of the spell being cast. Also, they ALL created a few of their very own wild spells, including souped up versions of Nahal's Reckless Dweomer... Like one that can emulate up to 1 spell per 2 levels of the caster, by causing that many wild surges... and possibly causing one accidental surge for each emulated spell. They have level 2, 3 and 4 personal versions of Nahal's Reckless Dweomer that filled ALL of their spell slots.

    I’m just throwing it out here.
    My friends and I just started our first campaign ever (after a small introductory mini-campaign to D&D) and we’re something like 10 sessions in.
    Long story short, there are some mimic-like humanoids (that, as far as I know, are from the official 5e MM) that are trying to do something fishy in the shadows, and their most noticeable particular is their blue skin tone. There is no easy way to know whether one is a mimic or not, considering their surface thought-reading perk, so our encounters so far have been something like: the mimic shows the blue skin because of fighting I guess, it turns into someone from the party, we have to get creative while testing who is the real PC.
    I am a Wild Magic sorcerer and you probably know better than me what happens on a 23-24.
    Neither the DM or myself knew about it.
    It hasn’t happened yet, luckily enough, but it’s going to be wild if it does.

    In a homebrew game that involved the PCs getting transported to another world. One actual wild mage, 2 who occasionally had surge events due to being extradimensional.
    From the wild mage:
    Turned a curtain wall into bread whilst under siege
    Created a "light entity" that thought it was a fairy.
    Poisoned a reservoir with "something like uranium"
    Liched a dude
    Gave the party's necromancer/primary healer permanent gills.
    Edited a concept from reality by accidentally erasing it from a god's memory.
    The others: created a set of cards that the images came to life when drawn from the deck
    Created "Mostrum Psychedelia", a giant psychedelic plant that caused hallucinations
    Almost eliminated *TWO* races from the planet/virtually all life on half a continent.
    Introduced "Zombie Plague" (ie Romero zombies, not normal fantasy kind), but the necromancer was working on doing that anyway...
    Those are just the worst, and some were either at high level (the concept removal) or just happened in the right(wrong) place to have outsized effects (the almost double genocide happened on a convergence of lay lines & caused MORE secondary destruction through pilotless river boats, untended fires, machines etc as the effect spread through the lay lines.

    I have a good one. So we are an odd group of adventurers, we consisted of a tobaxi rouge, a shadarkai wild magic sorcerer, a celestial prince assassin, a teifling thief and then there’s me the juggernaut warforged paladin. We were sent to take care of some bandits that were terrorising the nearby city and discovered their main hideout on an island that was about a days travel from the port. We get to the island and it is nonstop action the moment we arrive to take care of the bandits and their leader. During the entire fight our wild magic sorcerer uses her wild magic quite often. The first thing to happen was she turned blue. Next attack and next roll she lost all her hair. And for three different fight encounters back to back she turned into a potted plant no more than 10 meters away from the last transformation. But it get better since one of the bandits decided to kick the potted plant that I was near at the time and that damage still didn’t bring her back to herself. Needless to say there was a spiralling blood stream from that bandit who kicked my friend. Afterwards we return to the city for our reward and discovered there was a festival happening in honour of the new king. (Our celestial prince assassin) and we spent a lot of time at the festival. But our teifling decided to call out a game in the festival that was a scam and stole his grand prize. Unfortunately the grand prize was a deck of many things. And everyone began drawing cards from the deck. Now the funny part is coming up. While everyone got good draws the wild magic sorcerer drew the one card no one was expecting to be drawn after the third card. She spawned an aspect of death which declared no one was to interfere. However two of our party decided to try to help and two more aspects spawned in. The two extra aspects were defeated with ease but the wild magic sorcerer was having trouble and was activating a fireball spell at 6th level at the aspect and rolled max damage... but then the wild magic happened. The wild magic surge she activated was she ended up silencing herself. So as she was about to cast the fireball completing the spell she gets silenced and the spell fizzles. She only managed to kill the aspect by luck and spells that don’t require verbal components. But she was at 12 health by the end of the fight and screaming even though no one could hear her. It was fun and crazy. But it was hilarious the entire time

    Once I had a tiefling sorcerer she was a homebrew wild magic sorcerer she was a liches experiment that might have failed, well magic didnt quite work for her, her eoells completely randomly picked, the spell lvl also compleatly random, updating and down casting constantly. Almost vaporized a friendly archmage with a lvl 10 fireball (the use of a tenth lvl spell was allowed by our gm because that was part of her bg, the lich experimenting) she essentially became the archmages apprentice and eventually got control of her magic thanks to a long quest that resulted in her being polymorphed into too many things, growing a 3rd temporary eye, her skin color changing yellow, and a bunch of other stuff.

(a little heads up in are word, the material plain magic automatically causes wild magic to happen) So are sorcerer rolled to wake me up from the spell she succeeded but the wild magic effect was all undead around you rise up and do the thriller dance. This was completely random with 500 different possibilities. so the whole graveyard was full of dead bodys doing the thriller dance , they did not harm you so the ground was all difficult terrain. It was hilarious. lol

    I play a wild magic sorcerer Moon elf. Our party had just arrived in a town that had houses with lots of tears ect. So my character together with our druid, decided on mending the tears in the walls and rooftops. (Wild magic happens on both Cantrips and Spells, as well as when rolling a Nat 1 and A nat 20.) Since it where quite some houses and quite some damage I had to roll 6 d20 to see if my magic would go wild at any time. It went off twice. The first thing that happened that everyone would be furnible against piercing damage, which didn't do something as we weren't in combat. so all that happened was a light fading on the area to indicate something had happened. the second thing that happend was that she grew a feather beard. When I told the other players what the effect was, the one playing a Monk cheered as he had been trying to find stuffing for his Baby yeti pillow he had made out of said creature a few battles before. My character eventually sneezed and the feather beard exploded from her face, in battle. After battle the Monk happily picked them all up and stuffed them in his baby yeti pillow. which he still carries around and still has those feathers in it.

I spent an entire session where the party was in a gladiatorial arena throwing level 5 Chromatic Orbs (the party was level 10) at the boss. The highlight was probably when I ended up critting both attacks of a Twinned Spell Level 5 Chromatic Orb. Did over 200 damage in that one round while the Paladin/Druid and the Fighter/Rogue were being revived by the lycanthrope bard.

    She was 23 and became 14. The big bad enemy was her arranged fiancé. He proceeded to roll two nat 1s in a row to try to cast inflict wounds on her, and I said it's because he's too thrown off by his fiancée becoming a child to bring himself to touch her.

    His name was Pontu and he was an elderly sorcerer. The DM allowed me to roll to see if he falls asleep or not, which made him so great. He casted a spell that backfired and caused him to be cursed, specifically the first body of water he touches turns to lava.
    So after the fight, Pontu, being a senile old man, decided to was his robe. The instant he touched the lake, it turned to lava, burning up his only clothing. Not because of the turning into a plant part, but just because I'd get to the point of im literally just playing on my phone why am I here? There's a reason that usually only last 1 turn. Then the dm puts me in a scenario where death is near guaranteed and if I haven't delivered the end the spell now or I'm leaving ultimatum because I'm not just going to sit there for hours on end then I think that would do it.

    Not the player, but the DM. I ran a 24 hour long one shot for my brother's birthday, with some friends. Everyone would start off at level 3, and be level 8 for the final fight. My brother chose to be a variant human wild magic sorcerer. Initially, the character he created was intended to be 8 years old, but changed his mind not long before the session. Funny enough, the first time he had to roll on the wild magic table, his 13 year old PC became 3 years younger from one of the effects. We both found it funny how he still ended up a kid, despite his choice. Another moment in the same session during the first boss fight, my brother made a joke about not wanting to accidentally blow himself up with a fireball spell from the wild magic table. You can probably guess what happened immediately on that turn... He survived with 1 HP...

    level 3 party, waterdeep dragonheist, peace domain cleric (me) was given a random staff by a goblin he decided to rescue from the sewers. Wild magic surge would be cast if a 1, 2, 3 or 4 was rolled on a d20. This occurs every time I use a spell or cantrip. I cast silence on a man as soon as my character realizes he's very strong in magic. i roll a 3 on the wild magic table. This causes me to roll every turn for the next minute. Next turn he realizes he can't cast most of his spells since verbal components cannot occur in silence, so he makes a melee attack on our frontline instead. My turn comes around and because of the 3 i roll again and this time I cast cure wounds on the one who took the hit. I roll a 7 on the table. everyone in the tavern immediately takes a third level fireball to the face. In character and out of character I'm confused as to what caused this fireball as my dm is giggling like she just pranked someone. out of character and in character I believe this is something to do with the mage and that somehow he is able to cast spells as a reaction to others' magic. Cleric has stopped responding initiates as I feel completely useless in the fight. so he makes an attempt to grapple the mage (Loxodon Cleric with a +3 to strength.) and.... an 8 was rolled, resulting in another fireball. i get knocked out along with 2 other party members while the guy realizes what's going on and decides to leave as he's been nuked by 2 point blank fireballs. That is how some random bad luck ended up nearly tpk'ing the entire party because the goblin gave me a staff of wild magic...
