Time Capsule Piece 😍😍😍
@dhsuperbikes
That’s a beauty and sounds great. Thanks for the video.
Arguably one of the best motocross machines ever made!
I agree except for the "Arguably" part. If you replace that with "Unquestionably" I'm along for the ride
I used to race one. Lol
Taking that first 25 seconds to start is EXACTLY how these are from cold & why I have a roller starter now to save the shafts and kickstarts. Easier when warm though. Walking past that RS250 at 0:48 too which I also own along with my 2 x Mega 2 490s and a 440. Long live the 2 stroke!
Looking for a roller starter myself. What do you recommend and where did you get yours? Thanks
For a very long time I wondered why some of those big bores had a left kick, while 90 percent of the population is right handed (or right feeted in those particular cases). Since those monsters didn't have a side stand, I guess the best way to start them was NOT sitting on the bike. Can someone shine some light on this topic?
I believe Big Bore 2 stroke with left kick starters was built for sidecar racing. I could be wrong, but I believe that's the reason.
My brother and I ran a souped up Pursang and he had 490. When it was damp out and it could be hard to start if theTDC was set up to rip it was easier to do a push jump on and bang your ass on it to get it to kick over. Not only that but when they put the trani together it was cheaper to have it on the left. There were just more pros than cons on the subject and we lived in that day so you hear stuff then that you don't hear now. Basically it came down to weight and easier to start by a push. It would have taken a lot of machine work to put the kick on the right. Like I said. It all came down to cheap and lighter. Ride safe boys.
Your video is quite lame. Maico brako, made of tin, ride em out and push em in!!!
Greatest of all..
.
Monster,keep awai..or it kil you.
That is work of art
beautiful look, beautiful sound 🫠
Maico MX 490 often considered the best twin shock chassis configuration ever produced for an air cooled model. 1983-84 Husqvarna CR WR OR chasis may have eclipsed it could be argued. Often considered the greatest, most influential MX'er ever produced. The 1974 Honda CR125 Elsinore was probably far more so. The 1981 490, as an overall package available in that year, was ultra competitive until about 84-85. How the 98 Yamaha YZ400F ever was voted a notch better than the Maico is beyond me!!
I've seen a sprocket and rotor in one (sprotor) but I've never seen a drum and sprocket (drumet ???). Minus the left leg kick, it looks fun definitely clean.
All I can say is it's beautiful. Someone is getting a very rare classic. Nice Big Bore
You need to show the poster of Danny Magoo Chandler on the invisible maico!!!!
Best MX bike ever, and what a beautiful example. Well done, thanks for sharing 👍
😂🎉😂Unico 😅
My favorite smoker
Preciosa moto y sonido celestial!
What a beauty! I'd love to have one of those for the stable.
Us older guys never can get enough hearing the growl of a big bore motocrosser. A real motocross bike. I can almost smell that smell oww oha that smell. Lol.
Oh. Thanks for that trip down memory lane.
You are not starting it wrong
Lay the bike over till the fuel comes out the overflow tube turn on the enrichiner and kick it slow a few to prime then kick it to start should start on 1st or 2nd kick
Don't you mean, he "is" starting it wrong?
Those camper vans @3:47 look really nice.
Ive drove the 450 kx like a mini bike ........show me something already
I am currently rebuilding one of those. I have all the new plastic, but do you guys have any leads for me on all the needed decals ? Thanks.
I raced a 440 M back in the day.... I had my race buddy just hook on to me with a tow strap and pull me off to get started for the first start of the day after that it would bust off one or two kicks but not that first cold one ohhhh hell no.
I remember these as a kid and teen. Awesome bikes . Your oil mix is off.
The big bore bikes from Japan had kickstarter on the right side after breaking your leg trying to start your bike you buy a Maico just for that reason
Could have bought 81 or 82 roughly 35 years ago for next to nothing it was a very rough one of my many buy regrets
I had one in South Africa and it was the best bike ever.
1980 440 was my first new bike
Una maravilla de máquina....
That bike was screaming ride me.
Should have a MX boot 🥾 for that bike
Got a nice bike there👍
It’s beautiful.
No one has ever replicated the torque curve that bike has awesome,,as an apprentice I bought a 490 off the bosses son ,, for £500 pounds in about 1985'6 ,,as the cr500 Honda was the big thing,,,be bit more expensive now ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️ from northern Ireland

GORGEOUS.
THERE IS TOO MUCH OIL IN YOU'RE
MIXTURE. ARE YOU DOING THAT ON PURPOSE FOR A REASON?
Was wondering the same thing Steve.
Ring ding ding! Call that bike The Phlebotomist. She can drain the blood out of you quick!
😂🤣😂🤣
I have one of these and can’t sell it , never had a bike like this just fits like a glove and handles perfectly, my moto plat ignition went out and I’m thinking of PVL
I raced one probably the best bike I ever had, almost always 1st or 2nd to the first turn✌️
I have the same in very good condition with Öhlins than an Enduro. Greetings from southwestgermany
❤

The sound of that..
The greatest machine
Back then we had a bunch of guys that lived down the street and we had spoil banks behind us that we had carved out a half mile course. 2 of their friends went and bought a brand new 490 brought it the same day out to ride. They started kicking on it and eventually it broke one leg a piece backfiring on them. Wish I knew what happened to it.
This video had me wishing I would have bought one back in the day. But after you're comment about broken legs maybe it's a good thing I didn't
they could be an absolute sod to start from cold, without thinking one day i straight legged mine and it put me over the bars, after that i always bumped it from cold on the decompressor
Graham noyce... 🙂
Bet she still is a beast 💪
Ultimate bike
Gorgeous
Great work!
Bellissimo moto mitica
Nice

Would love to own one
Molto bella

back in the day we used to call those maico brake,os from what i remember not very reliable, but still a good looking bike
Not everyone should own a MAICO.
@@chriscatarcio2983 that's why i never bought one
Not this year. More like "no brako Maico". Always started right up and never skipped a beat. NOTHING ever broke. Excellent Desert and off road Gran Prix bike. Great on a track too. Loved it
@@mrkroeger I heard the same thing. the 81 was unstoppable.
😍🤤🎨🦈
Feine Maschine!😉👍🏻
A guy I worked with back in 82, (in South Africa) had one of these. I rode it once. A monster. The cops actually borrowed it from him to catch someone who was taunting them and getting away into the bush with his Honda 500 Thumper. They said he was quite surprised when they nabbed him in no time at all on this fire breather.
You lie. That never happened
Nathaniel Lambshit
@@shawnmosleh2363 lol Why would I lie about it? Why even bother to make up a story like that? Try decaf.
One of the best.
