We Build an Oak House

- Welcome to another project! This year has come to an end and this is the final video of this year. We still have a couple of days of work on this house but the most is completed and shown in this video. Investor drew an entire house and our part was to make a wooden structure. This project actually started last year when we ordered freshly cut oak from the saw mill and it stayed covered in front of the workshop to dry over a year period. after that, we started cutting all the pieces in the workshop and then assemble it on the site. A few months have passed in between the workshop and the site assembly and in that period the wood warped a little bit and gave us some trouble but we managed to fix it into place. Anyway, turn on the CC for subtitles for more comments and explanations during the video.

My favorite channel strikes again! The project is such a sleeper, simple on the outside but jaw dropping on the inside. So well done.
Glad you enjoy it! Thank you:)
A sleeper for sure but also good either if you want to batten down the hatches or if the sun is beaming and you joist the main sail.
Very nice 🎉🎉🎉❤
@@alexrains1893 It has that feel doesn't it?
You write the joints are stronger with the screws compared to the pegs but we have the oak snap a lot of screws in about 2 years of drying. Then a company did some strength tests and they calculated that using hardwood pegs are about 24-29 times stronger then the 8xwhatever teller head screws (we tested, spax, heico and i think fischer). The frame is sturdy enough of course so it will never collapse but the pegs move with the frame, the screws just rot away. Have worked for centuries. Loved that you make the glulam yourself instead of ordering it or something. We always just go to the forest and find curved oak and axe hew it in shape. Hope to see more of the projects
+1 for pegs. Bolts can be used, but not that type is what we r using mostly. A simple rod with washers and nuts on both end
Yep
Stronger at testing does not mean stronger longevity.
@@thenarrator1984 except there have been houses with pegs hundreds of years old, and the test showed the screws got really weak fast, they dont move with the wood, like the pegs do. All was tested and screws are just the wrong choice, especially with oak which shrinks a lot.
@TomsTimmervan that's what I'm saying...... I'm agreeing with you.....
@@thenarrator1984 ah sorry, think i miss understood you
i am an English carpenter from liverpool. I was lucky enough to work with a german zimmeriei in the black forest building houses like you make . We also did a restoration in wolfach after a fire in 1999 great experiance . now retired in the same village i first came to in 1997.
Wow....simply stunning timber frame structure! Assembling that inside of walls already in place was really brave, too!!
I had a good 3d model the customer made and I made another one after taking measurements on the spot so it just had to fit:) I'm glad you like it. Thank you!
Love the blend of craftsmanship and technique with all the modern capabilities of power tools. The use of robotic routing is just mesmerizing. Not all common in the USA. Flat CNC routing is very common. Also, 5 axis milling, but mostly in the metal fabrication business. Another great project and video, as always!!
Thank you very much. Yes, a robot really makes things easier and makes sure everithing is precise, especially when working with more expensive material..
I can only imagine the beautiful smell of the oak combined with the great design and shapes. Amaizing work!!
Thank you very much! Compared to spruce we usually do, oak smells like chocolate.😁
Wow G, looks like a church!!! All that oak looks sooo nice. Congrats to the whole team my friend. Cheers from Buenos Aires!!!, George.
Wow, you have done it again! Simply beautiful.
Thank you! I'm glad you like the work😁
Thoroughly enjoyable. I’ve lived in oak houses in Uk, nothing, but nothing comes near to oak, left for the eye to see and wallow in its beauty.
Glad you enjoyed it! I must agree, this is one of the prettiest projects I got to work on.
Great work, im alway astonished by how you guys outdo youself with every new project.
Thank you very much! :)
These are my favorite videos shared on the internet. Killer work boys!
Thank you!:)
Work of Art 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
I'm glad you like it! The investor actually made a 3D model of this house and I liked it from the first time I saw it. :)
Beautiful work! I really like the arch feature beams in the middle. Thanks for sharing!

Excellent craftmanship as always by you guys
Thank you very much! :)
Greetings from Kentucky, USA. Absolutely top-notch. Beautiful work.
Beautiful Master Piece Oak House. Gorgeous home.
Beautiful work.
Your videos are very therapeutic to watch.
Thank you so much 😀
Još jedan odličan video i projekat! Svaka čast!
Hvala! :)
Это не просто крыша - это произведение искусства! Очень красивый результат!
Muy lindo trabajo. Excelente tarea de ensamblaje de la madera. Gracias por compartir. Saludos desde Salta, Argentina.
Love that this house will still be standing in a few hundred years.
I also think so. There are many 100+ year old houses in the area and they didn't have the hydro insulation materials we have today. I'm giving it 300:) minimum
As usual, very nice work with a blend of old school and new school techniques. I particularly liked the scarf joint. Well done all.
Thank you very much!
Incredible craftsmanship.
Thank you! :)
Awesome woodworking! I love the look of the interior.
Glad you like it! Thank you
Awesome!!!
Bas dobro, uvek se obradujem vasem klipu. Bas umetnicki radite, do poslednjeg detalja. Da sam mladji pa da se preselim u HR i radim kod vas, uzivao bih.
Ovako samo pravim norveske drvens kuce.
Svako dobro i srecni praznici!!!
Hvala puno! I vama također!:)
Appreciate the subtitle descriptions, as always
Glad you like them! I think adding the subtitles was one of the best decisions on this channel. It really brought the videos to a wider audience.
These videos are fantastic. Thanks!
Glad you like them!
Incredible skills, that next level . That clamp table for you laminated curved beams is such a cool way to so those repeatedly
Loved the music, precision work, and of course, the robot.
Thanks for always being entertaining.
As always, amazing. What a beautiful structure.
If I had the money, I would fly you and your team over to build me a house. 😂
Wood like it more with clay filled in, so you can see the frames from outside. But the proportions are great. Thanks for sharing.
And thank you for watching, I appreciate it!
First :) This is by far my favorite content. Such art.
Glad you enjoy it!Thank you!:)
And that is why I subscribed to your channel - outstanding work!
amazing work. Congrats to you and your team!
Thank you very much!:)
Finally, a new video is up 😅👍👍👍
Yeah, it has been a while.. Better late than never:)
Beautiful work as always! Congratulations and have a very good new year to all of you and your loved ones, and may 2025 be a very successful year! 👍👍
Thank you very much! I wish the same to you too! 😁
A beautiful roof, inside and outside!
Great Work All!! Always a joy to see your product & its process! 🙂
Glad you enjoy it! 😁 Thank you very much!
Fantastic quality/great team! You're best!
Wow, thanks!😁
Precision construction and teamwork.
Beautiful job as always!
Thank you! Cheers!
With tolerances that tight, precision is a must but we've come to expect nothing less of you and your team! It is a bit confusing why you'd install the roof before the final plaster coat is applied to the house, it just seems that there are lots of opportunities to ruin or mess up all that beautiful workmanship. Great work as always, look forward to more amazing projects in 2025!
Love this ART of Woodworking! ❤
Nice project. I love when you build a roof. And the robot is back!
😁Thank you! Yes, he is back and as helpful as always!
You guys make this look to easy.
Well, after doing it for long enough, It isn't that particularly hard:)
An extension to Notre Dame de Paris ?? Very nice work team, as usual.
Not even close but thank you!😁
Absolutely beautiful.
Sretna Nova Godina i zelim da vidim josh od vashih gradnje
Great work! 👍🏾😎
But I would have put two skylights in. 😉
Good Day, merry Christmas and happy New Year, very interesting work, A work of Art, it makes you wonder how skilled Crossman done it back hundreds and hundreds of years ago all by hand, I have been watching the repair and renovation of Notre Dame, very impressive work, very interesting territorial love the music, I wish all the success for the future, old English dude living in France, specialist joiner cabinet maker carpenter, now retired, I live in a very old Moulin/Mill that has some very impressive beams in the structure that would’ve held pulleys and lifting gear from hundreds of years ago for lifting grain, sadly I have a problem with Roof, nothing wrong with the structure it’s what is it is covered with, and I cannot get it repaired as it is made of asbestos, I’ve been told that I’ve got to pay for part of the cost, which I cannot afford, , anyway that’s my problem, keep up the very impressive work. Stay safe. Look forward to seeing the next one., happy New Year,
From France,
Yeas asbestos is a big problem here too. Good thing is that the state financed the removal and disposal of old asbestos tiles so there is very little of it left. If not, people here would also have hard time dealing with it. There is something special in old wooden structures. I'm currently working on a church tower and it is a replica of an old one damaged in an earthquake. We use cranes and all the modern tools and I often wonder how they did it 300 year ago.. There are even 300 year old marks with hearths and old loves written inside them:) People were the same as today. I'm glad you like the work! Thank you and merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you too!
Thank you for your reply, Is financial aid for this type of removal of asbestos roofing, this is what I’ve been trying to find out,
My biggest problem is, I’m lacking funds , as I lost a lot of my money due to my ex partner, she scammed me for hundreds of thousands of pounds,
I had somebody in the local town that I thought was helping me trying to resolve this problem , but I believe my ex partner is still trying to cause problems for me over here she’s got other people involved accusing me of doing things which I’ve never done,
I have been thinking about trying to make bits of furniture wood turning et cetera to try and sell to raise some money , I do have a serious amount of tools and machinery that I brought across from the UK, and at present, I’m trying to insulate a bit of garage/workshop, as it has got a metal roof on it, and a lot of condensation,, I was told a few years ago that I should get financial aid for insulation of my roof of property and walls, obviously somebody has said something and this all stopped, if you can give me some advice would be very much appreciated, I hope you have a great New Year’s Eve, and I wish you all the success for the future, Phil
old school new school perfect. would love to learn
I'm glad you like it, thank you😁
Awesome, awesome work.
Thank you very much!:)
Belle vidéo, et superbe charpente, cela fait rêver.
pristine work, so satisfying!
Beautiful!!!
Thank you!!
BEAUTIFUL WORK
Thank you!
Wow! Magnificent work!
Danke für die herrliche Musik.
I love your theme for the video, along with the music, but it was too fast. Because of the interesting subject, it would be nice to see some of it in normal speed, even if it took more than one video. A series would be nice Send some more, please.
Looks fantastic
Glad you like it!
Good job 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you! 😃
beautifull work
Stunning.
Watching from Vancouver Island 🏝️🇨🇦👍
Thank you for watching! :D Cheers from Croatia!
Beautiful❤
Thank you! 😊
Grandios! 👍👍👍
A lost craft in many places. You made a beautiful structure.
I grew up in western France looking at houses with entire frames made like that.
I wonder about the cost of a structure like that if you care to share a ballpark figure.
I'm doing this for a customer so I can not. I hope you understand. I'm glad you like the structure, thank you! :)
glorious. Well done. more content please
beautiful woodworking! those robot arms sure come in handy (i'm not proud of that joke)
😁😁😁😁I would be proud😄 Thank you!
Excellent music choice and great video.
Thank you very much!
This looks amazing and the internal oak framing inside the walls must make this house strong to survive almost anything nature has.
Not sure about the screws though. Will they last more than 100 years? Will the plating on them protect against damp and the acidity of the oak?
Oak pegs have proved themselves in half timber houses as old as 600 or 700 years, they may need replacement after some time but this is not as difficult as removing rusted out screws. When the head snaps off you can only remove them with a long core bit cutting the wood away around the screw. And then the hole has to be pegged anyway.
Also pegs have the ability to tighten joints when the wood dries, by having the holes in both parts slightly off center.
wonderful
Glad you like it!
Can you provide some info on your crane please.
im a carpenter in western canada, that oak would cost an absolute fortune where i live
It is not cheap here either..
The wood frame looks great. Though, the combo with gas concrete blocks is not great. The amount ov water is 400l per m3 blocks from the factory. Takes at least two years to dry. The amount of water will create mould on the nice oak frame.
wood is not touching the concrete anywhere, It is spaced at least 4cm.
Beautiful work! I assume the video shows the final curved glulam you made since you removed the jig brackets afterwards. How long did it take to make all of them?
holy moly, so beautiful! I wanna know how much it costs...! :D
Merci pour ce choix de musique !
LOVE IT.
I do love it. God bless you. It feels awesome.
This would be so ungodly expensive in America, I couldn't even imagine.
Im a carpenter, living in Belgium EU, and it would be about the same here... Nobody would do that.
@@0nurbis I might…I’m an American, but I own the trees from which the materials would be made, and I would either learn to hew the timber myself, or work side-by-side with a professional. It looks quite fascinating. I already own multiple forklifts, one of which is off-road, a 36 inch bandsaw, etc. I’m so tempted, but the amount of work is rather intimidating
I am from Brittany. 1m3 oak 200 euros - with land and trees around your property not more expensive than modern material. Chesnut has always been prefered for the frame under the slates and rain. Oak for the floor or vertical beams.
Only one crucial point : competent carpenter (1-2 years wait for the one I know). This design is a facade to be visible inside a box of concrete - low level carpentry - peg are secured by hidden screws. Croix de Jupiter with bolts and nuts !
I will build a warehouse near a protected a historical area (concrete box forbidden), douglas less expensive but small difference with wood available around.
@@invest48 I agree that a competent carpenter is not easy to find nor engage. many years ago, I wanted oak stairs built a special way, when I approached the recommended carpenter he gave me a 18 month wait before he could even start. I went for 'second best' who was recommended by the 1st choice and got the stairs started after 5 months. Nowadays it is even more difficult to find and engage a competent carpenter.
@@RLee-zs1ds Beware - stair is the pinnacle of carpentry. Hopefully no grindge.

Very good and interesting work, Question: how much is this big, glued beam going back, aftet release from the mould?
Wouldn't it have been easier to plaster first and then touch up the spots later?
I love your work. Where can I hire you?
Chef d'œuvre !
My 8 year old wants to be a timber framer.
If they still want to learn when they’re older, there are schools for that available (at least in the US). The Compagnon du Devoir is really good if you’re in France. I think other countries like Germany also have guilds, so there are options :)
absolutely beautiful!
Inspiring use of technology and traditional methods!
Could you perhaps disclose the name and type of your wonderful folding crane?
Pretty sure this crane is made by Gru Benedini, but I don't know which model. I'm no expert on these small trailerable self-erecting cranes; however, after a bit of internet sleuthing, that's my conclusion. The logo on the tower matches, and the layout is similar (lattice tower rather than tubular, transport wheel location correct, etc.). It could be a model which is no longer currently offered in their catalog, perhaps from the 1990s.
I got sucked in by the cheesecake cruck frame thumbnail, but stayed for the crane!
I don't have a regular use for such a device, but it looks like it would be darned handy in congested spaces.
great job as always...but i am really curios what kind of glue you used for the curved beams.. thank you!
I'd bet it was a standard d3 PVA wood glue.
For glulam we use two component melamine formaldehyde d4 glue from akzo nobel.
@lignumchannel thank you! Happy new year!
Nice. What is the wall insulation plan?
What kind of crane is that? Thanks.
Eh da mi je novaca pa da vas mogu platiti za obnovu krova.
Predivno izgleda.
Hvala!:)
My head hurts just trying to figure out the cost of this house !!!!!
damn thats atleast 20 bucks
Technically, you are right, the best kind of right! 😁
👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Exceptional work as always. I'd be interested to know how they plan to finish the interior walls.
Are you able to advise the name of the music (piano concerto) I would much appreciate it if you can and, a perfect fit for this video. Many thanks.
In the description. Glad you like thd music choice😀
