Just took delivery of my 2023 Forester Sport and am so happy I watched many of these videos to get me used to the Subaru brand and lower my learning curve on my new ride. I love this car. Thank you so much Alex!
I agree. I put carbon fiber trim over the vents and console trim in my 2021 Sport The orange was just too orange! The rest of the trim/stitching can pass for red and I'm good with that.
@@MG-bc4em I just got a 2022 Sport and was ready to do the exact same things for the same reasons. When I got it I was pleasantly surprised and glad I didn’t pre-order the trim!
Thank you for covering the new forester sport! Mine should be coming in in about 2 months and I’ve definitely been looking forward to it. I’ve been nervous not having seen the actual car in person, but this is a huge help to get an idea of what it will be like. I am wondering, is the magnetite grey a dark grey in person? I was hoping it’s as dark as it seems online! Thanks for the great content as always
One unique aspect of the sport it has the sport # feature that modifies the engine's electronic throttle mapping to deliver super-quick throttle response and put down the power sooner. I believe this feature is only available on the sport model.
Hi Alex-I'm literally about to order a sport officially tomorrow. Thanks for your help! Somewhat on topic, here, I'm an old grouch and like the black wheels and black window strip and general level of trim on the sport. I DON'T like the orange stripey stuff. Are the rocker panel lines removable at all, that is, is it a decal, or something stuck in there like the name plates, etc.❓(I’m the dude that noticed your Halloween socks, btw❗️) thanks again.👋
My local dealer is charging a extra $2500 over msrp for these and I thought that was a standard thing going on but thanks to this video it made me realize that's not a standard and I called a dealer a little further out that is not charging over sticker and we went ahead and put a deposit down for the next batch that's coming early Feb. Thanks

one month until i go to pick up my 2022 forester, thanks Alex, your videos are very educational, and I have to say, your videos are also one of reasons I decided to go for forester
Thanks for the Video , got my Sports model last week. I would like to have you opinion on dashcam setup on it. Which one will be best and how to ensure it does not impact the existing cameras.
Hi Alex, I was just wondering if you could answer a question for me. I purchased a 2022 Forester Sport. Could you tell me what material the dashboard is? My daughter says it is leather, but I think it might be rubber. I’m not sure what I should be using to clean it with. Thank you so much.
Alex, good morning my good man....I really didn't like the forester much but I do have to say the sport is actually kind of nice. The redish/orange accents adds to the car. The rims are quite sleek. I wonder why you can't get the color that you want.
I recently traded in my 2020 Mercedes-Benz for a 2022 Subaru Forester Premier (Canada) in Cascade Green Silica. I look forward to getting it next Saturday! Great videos by the way. (: I would love to see one of the 2022 Premier showing all of the features and stuff if you get your hands on one. Cheers.
I was told by a dealer that the upgraded speakers were just a subwoofer in the trunk and "fancy badging" on the door speakers. That the speakers in the doors are the same as the non upgraded speakers. You just don't get a subwoofer in the trunk area.
@@Babs11285 The sub is not in the trunk. It's underneath the passenger seat. Also instead of 6 speakers, you get 9 speakers which includes the sub plus an upgraded amp that pushes 576 watts.

Hey Alex, I have a headlight question on my 2022 White Forester Sport that I took delivery on July 29 this year, ordered back in April of this year. It's obvious in this video at 4:12 that the headlight has the full wraparound LED around the perimeter - similar to what Subaru has done with most of their models. However, my unit does not have wraparound LEDs, it has just the LED going across the top edge, not the side or bottom. I like that look and also thought this would be the DRLs on this vehicle - but not so! The DRLs on my unit are the actual headlights during the day. So my question is - did Subaru make an end of the model year switch on the Forester Sport LEDs and the DRLs? Overall, I really like this vehicle and am glad to have waited to purchase it.
A friend of mine bought the dark blue Sport. He wishes he would have bought a different color, as his Forrester ALWAYS looks dirty. He and his wife only drive their cars for 3 years. His next Forester will either be White or Silver. I told him to buy a White one, so when he’s ready to sell that one, I’ll buy it from him. By then my Rav 4WD Limited will be 17 years old and time to replace it. I will miss my 269 hp V6 in my Rav.
I’ve actually got future plans on owning a Subaru Forester myself, my grandparents currently has an older model of a Subaru Outback with a manual transmission… but I think a Subaru would be a better option in northern Minnesota because we do get a lot of snow and sometimes even the Arctic air
Thank you for the update! Got this model 2019 (4th generation) and will be picking up the 2022 (exact same as this one) this Saturday. Our trade-in was to good to resist. Looking forward to our 5th Forester! I love the Orange Stripe, especially on the luggage racks...makes it easier to find in a full parking lot
Alex, I have a question that no one can answer so hopefully you can help. I'm reading about Subaru CVT's having "fake shifts" but watching videos, fake shifts make no sense. If these shifts are artificial then how can the tachometer drop RPMs when the transmission "fake shifts?" That would mean the tach is showing fake RPS's. That also means Subaru is creating fake shifting sounds and somehow a fake shifting feel. None of this makes any sense. I'm guessing the CVT pulleys are quickly sliding to a certain spot making the shift points REAL. Can you solve this for me and fellow Subaru peeps?
They are called fake shifts because it's not a traditional automatic using gears. Subaru's CVT employs two hydraulically actuated, adjustable V-shaped pulleys that are connected via the chain. Depending on vehicle speed, the pulley sides are pushed in or pulled out, which causes the chain to move through “the valley” created by the pulleys. Using paddle shifters, You can choose from preprogrammed ratios (7-8) for various driving conditions that help set the RPMs (actual setting and not fake) simulating a traditional automatic feel. On the Xmode, it changes the program to increase power at lower speeds on mud/snow for traction. Using the CVT, a forester can get good gas mileage, smoother shifts, with standard AWD. We have had 2 older foresters and the tribeca with traditional automatic trans. The CVT is much smoother. Subaru makes great CVT trans despite what people say.
I loved the big cargo space in the 2021 so I bought the 2022 since I was told it would not change but when I got it I noticed the cargo space is smaller since the cargo measurement in the 2021 is 28.9ft to 31.1ft and in the 2022 its 26.9ft to 28.9ft but no big deal cause I love everything else :)
Hello Alex! I am so happy to see your update video. I just want to know for the 2022 Subaru Forester Sport. If I don't want to have the sun roof, could you remove it from this trim? Thank you!
Sport looks good in silver. We have the blue wilderness coming in a few weeks. Any idea how long it takes for a vehicle to leave the factory in Japan and arrive at your dealership?
Awesome video, as always. And I can post that even as the video is just beginning. Does the Forester have a hands-free liftgate, where I can stick my foot under the rear bumper to open or close it?
Thanks Matthew! The Forester does have the options power lift gate. It's operated with the key fob, a button on the dash, and a button on the lift gate. There isn't a sensor under the bumper
Alex, can you do a video about warranties (what’s covered in basic warranty), if Subaru offers an extended warranty, what it covers & if worth it. As always thanks 🙏
Thanks for all your videos! Just wondering, what are the leadtimes looking like right now for Crosstreks,Outbacks and Foresters from the factory? it looks like the global pandemic really isnt going away anytime soon
Off topic a bit but in Fairbanks we can't order the Forester wilderness at all and they don't know when it will be back on a build? Just wondering if you knew anything about that?

Use an all purpose cleaner to clean it and protect it using 303 Aerospace Protectant. I would advise against ever using armor all as it can do more harm than good
@@alexpmo I don’t currently live somewhere where it snows much, but I’d like to have the ability to drive through sand comfortably. Could the normal x mode with low psi and more off-road ready tires be sufficient?
without proper tires it doesnt matter. my forester, and my last one, with stock tires gets stuck in snowy driveways all the time. also mud it just spins and spins...i had to use my side by side to pull my subaru out of some very basic weather that any 4 wheel drive should be able to get out of.
They did away with the orange accent pieces on the vents that were in the previous 2021 model. I'm not a fan of them so I was happy to see they changed that for the 2022.
@@alexpmo So I bought a Forester Wilderness. Sorry Alex, but I live in Canada. But I still love watching your channel. Anyway, the dealer is asking if I would like an extra protection package. It includes rust inhibitor, undercoating, ceramic coating and interior stain treatment. You can also purchase them separately. I was investigating whether or not to get the rust inhibitor and undercoating. Many mechanics I talked to or watched hate rubberized undercoating and say it often does more damage than good. I don't know much about the rust inhibitor either. So, your dealership doesn't offer these? CR says that packages like these are a waste of money. It says that modern cars already have rust protection built in. So do you have any thoughts?
Hi Alex. Thanks for your videos, they have been helpful in my decision to purchase a new Forester. I have a question though and I really hope you can help. My Forester Sport does NOT have the signature C-shape DRLs. My dealer is saying I should’ve upgraded to a higher trim. This doesn’t make sense. The previous year had it, there’s no mention of this on the website anywhere nor in any of Subaru’s promotional material, and the press car reviews I looked at before making my decision either stated this was included or actually depicted it in photos / video. Can you pls help with this? Thanks.
@@alexpmo Hi Alex, I have a 2022 Forester Sport. Is it because it has the steering responsive headlights that it doesn't come with the wrap-around DRLs?
@@ryanscheffer6686 all 2022’s for the US spec will have the same front headlights as shown in this video. Is yours a US spec or are you in a different country?
Alex, I just go my 2022 sport two days ago....question...on the inside door panel there is a sticker that says "modified weight capacity 2.45lbs" why does it say that and why was mine modified? Why aren't all modified?
Hey Alex, thanks for the tour! I'm excited for mine, which should be arriving in a few months. But I have two questions... Is there a functional difference between the 8" and the standard 6.5" screen? Faster processor? Or just a matter of screen size? Also... Without the power rear gate, is there a button on the fob or inside the car to release the gate? Or do you have to physically go back there and pick it up? Thanks!
Not that i'm aware of. Both the 6.5" and 8" operate the same in my personal experience. Screen size is the only difference. Without the power rear gate, you will still have an unlock button on the key fob for the hatch. Note, that this will only unlock the hatch and you will still have to manually open it with your hand.
TSZ, how long of a wait will it be for your special order Subaru? Im ready to special order a 2022 Crosstrek Limited and was hoping for 3 months. Lastly, did you pay MSRP or over? Down here in South Florida they are asking several thousand over MSRP which means I will wait till 2023 if I have to.
@@HomesteadOnThePreserve I will be paying MSRP. Find a dealership that will give you that. They should be up front about it, so don't waste your time negotiating to get to MSRP. I found two that would do it. The wait should be anywhere from 6-12 weeks. Late Dec order to early Feb delivery for my gf. Early Jan order for me, looks like possibly April delivery. Good luck!
Nice vehicle but…this is the year 2022 in the most competitive segment…and this was a refresh year for the Forester. Why no ‘options’ for integrated hitch for things like bikes…no wireless CarPlay…no ventilated seats…no 360 camera, etc. And to be marketed to say this vehicle has next gen eyesight, not true. A refreshed system yes, but not the fully redesigned and truly next gen Subaru Eyesight X. Yes, missed opportunities but still a great vehicle.
It does have next gen eyesight. The cameras are upgraded. You want ven seats, wireless carplay, and a 360 camera? What compact suv has all that for 30k?
I often times put mine in the cup holder because it's easier and more convenient. When I need the cup holder, I just put it in the storage under the infotainment or in the seat. Not a perfect set up, but it works
You need to find a different dealer. I'm working with one in a city 3 hours away because the local ones either seem to be charging extra or aren't posting anything publicly.
I have my answer about the AVH system problem I was having while in the drive thru. I have been told if I opened up my door or took off my seatbelts that the emergency break would turn on. And now that makes sense because it voids the regular use of the a VH system because I’m not in a regular drive use.
Thanks Jeanne! I just went and tested this out myself and sure enough it did the same thing. That's another safety feature I was unaware of until now so thanks for finding that out
@@jeannerountree952 I just went and used the AVH. While I was stopped with AVH active, I unhooked the seatbelt and the Parking brake automatically activated

Well, with the Forester Wilderness deception (no turbo), I went from a 2020 Forester Sport to an Outback Wilderness : best decision I ever made. Vehicle is much more polished and confortable. Trunk is also more useful. Forester needs a complete overhaul, else it is a glorified Crosstrek.
Noticed your comment because I’m trying to get an idea of differences, never owned a Subaru. What is the difference in ground clearance on the Forester Sport & Outback Wilderness. Does the Outback feel really big & “Wagon-like”??
@@bjleighandsouthernshadowsm8929 +1" of ground clearance. For having owned bigger SUV, the Outback feels really car-like: it is a wagon and drives like a car. The revised CVT is really good, the car is quick, and if you do a 0-60 in the Deep-mud-and-Snow mode (something nobody reviewed), you can get sub 5s vs the normal mode! Depends on what type of driving you plan on doing. Do you live in an area with snow throughout the year or do you plan to go off-road at all?
@@alexpmo I don’t currently live somewhere where it snows much, but I’d like to have the ability to drive through sand comfortably. Could the normal x mode with low psi and more off-road ready tires be sufficient?
@@Seinfeld1 get dual xmode. Watch all the videos on it
without proper tires it doesnt matter. my forester, and my last one, with stock tires gets stuck in snowy driveways all the time. also mud it just spins and spins...i had to use my side by side to pull my subaru out of some very basic weather that any 4 wheel drive should be able to get out of.
Thanks for the tour, I was thinking about Sport model, but not now.
More to the point, I think it is tacky.
They did away with the orange accent pieces on the vents that were in the previous 2021 model. I'm not a fan of them so I was happy to see they changed that for the 2022.
I think the Eyesight feature was also updated on this year‘s model.
It's better, it's enclosed now and has wider viewing angles
Can you buy a replacement hook mount for back of the ceiling? I just bought a rebuilt title and it's missing one.
Great video Alex. What is your opinion on the dealer applied rust proofing on the new Forester?
Thanks Gregg! I'm not familiar with that product since we don't sell anything like that.
@@greggh8611 get the engine underguard and differential underguard. Not these lousy spray coats
@@WilliamIsCool15 good news is the Canadian Wilderness comes with the engine and transfer case skid plates standard. It's an option in the US.
Thanks.
Hey Ryan, what year Forester do you have?
@@alexpmo thank you!
Good luck!
@@ThusSpokeZoroaster THANK YOU so much, very appreciated on the update and congrats on a wonderful vehicle!
Bring on the Outback videos! 😜
Does the Sport have stiffer suspension?
Do u always have to press the button to stop the motor at a stop from shutting off.is there a way to turn off .
Does Subaru “Scotch Gard” the cloth in the interior? If not, then I can do it after the temps get above 70 degrees.
The extra's you are talking about are in competitors vehicles but you will be in the $40,000 plus range.
It does have next gen eyesight. The cameras are upgraded. You want ven seats, wireless carplay, and a 360 camera? What compact suv has all that for 30k?
Is the lane centering different on the eyesight 4?
My 21 Ascent is horrible about pulling you completely out of your lane.
do all sports this year come with the responsive steering headlights that move when you are driving curvy roads?
Yes, and actually all Forester trim levels starting in 2022 have the steering responsive headlights
Hi Alex! A question regarding the 2022 Touring Crosstrek, Is it exactly the same as the 2021? thanks!
As far as I have seen, the 2022 Crosstreks are the same as the 2021 models.
Mr Crabs from the Crusty Crab called - he wants his subaru back (I hate the tail lights, crab claws )
😂 🦀
Where do people typically place their phones when using car play? The storage pocket under the infotainment center is small.
I often times put mine in the cup holder because it's easier and more convenient. When I need the cup holder, I just put it in the storage under the infotainment or in the seat. Not a perfect set up, but it works
Trying to remember but are the Falken tires on the sport different than other trims?
Dang Dealers! This trim level is 30k MSRP but its 36k at the dealership.😒 Dying to get this vehicle.
You need to find a different dealer. I'm working with one in a city 3 hours away because the local ones either seem to be charging extra or aren't posting anything publicly.
Wish the Forester was available in the Khaki like the Crosstrek
I would love to see the Khaki on other models too
My 2022 forester has stopped playing the welcome and goodbye chime sounds.
Any ideas how to get it back?
Can u set the driver seat to move all the way back bi itself when you turn or open door.
I wanted to know how I can purchase from you while I live in Fl? I sent a request through your dealership already.
Hey Sharon, I’ll look for your email now and reach out. Thanks!
That's another safety feature I was unaware of until now so thanks for finding that out
@@alexpmo Tell me what you did and your findings with how you tested it today unless you’re going to do this in another video which I will watch
@@jeannerountree952 I just went and used the AVH. While I was stopped with AVH active, I unhooked the seatbelt and the Parking brake automatically activated
@@alexpmo thank you for your videos and always answering our questions. You have been so helpful and I am always learning from your information. Leasing a new car is always some thing I enjoy but it can be stressful because of all the new electronics. At 57 learning some of these new things can be overwhelming. My daughter had a Honda CRV that had a lot of new computerized controls that I had difficulty with whenever I drove her vehicle. I had many CRV‘s that I enjoyed. So when it came to getting a new car to lease my son had started with Subaru vehicles and my first Subaru was the cross track and I enjoyed that for three years and then moved up to the Forrester last year in July. Keep all the new information coming because even if it isn’t directly related to my vehicle the indirect information is helpful. Thank you again Jeanne
@@jeannerountree952 so glad I could help! 😊
What’s the difference between the sport, limited, and wilderness? Noticed that the wilderness get slightly less mileage
Sport model gets the orange accents all and sport # mode plus sport gauges and interior sport details. Also, black 18" wheels. Limited gets leather seating and Voice-activated controls and dual-zone climate controls are also standard. The inside is also slight different. Wilderness ride is higher, trim is gold, and interior has gold trim. The wilderness seats and gauges are wilderness branded. It also is tuned for more rugged outdoors.
It seems like the price on the website is a little bit lower than the price shown on the website now.
I mean the price shown in this video is lower than current msrp price
The MSRP was recently adjusted. Subaru adjusts this from time-to-time. It usually goes up a few hundred each year for each model.
Convince me to buy a Subaru Forester Sport despite a brand history of inconsistent QC and reliability.
Can a full size spare fit in the wheel well of this trim?
my subaru dealership was doing a 5k markup! i understand why but dang..
yes, i'm happy to work for a dealership who doesn't mark up new Subarus. Makes my job easier too! 😄
@@alexpmo i bet, i did a lot searching around orange county to find a dealership who doesn't have such an extreme mark up! found my outback in long beach at timmons
Just picked up my 22 Magnetite Gray Sports from Hanless Subaru in Napa, CA after ordering mid November. NO ADDED MSRP MARK UP. Only added the optional package 24( 8 inch screen, RAB N harman kardon speakers) Ron Cooper is my guy there!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Yuck. Can you remove the cargo cover? I just ordered one of htese. I need to be able to through my road bike in the back.
yes, cargo cover can be removed and stores below the floor board in the back
@@alexpmo phew! Thank you!
I was upset when I saw that the LED DRL no longer wrap around the headlights, but just a LED line on the top of the headlights.
Is the front passenger seat power adjustable? No video on UA-cam in any trim level shows this.
According to the Subaru site (US), only the Touring trim gets a power passenger seat.
Only the Touring trim has power adjustability on the passenger seat.
That's correct!
Waiting on my mag grey to come in. (Any day now) Can't wait!
Congrats James! Enjoy! 😎
Too bad they used gloss black inside and out. The added display on the dash is out of place, use a full digital guage cluster and this would not be needed.
The added display is great. You can display your music on it while keeping the NAV on the main display.
i like the feature of the sport trim, but the red is too tacky.
What model spec are the Falken tyres?
Is the magnetite grey color truly as dark as it appears online?

Hi Alex, do you have any tips for maintaining/cleaning cloth seats in the forester premium? I have a dog and am worried that my cloth seats will quickly get destroyed with all of the dirt, wet fur, etc.
If you're concerned you can get seat covers on Amazon they make specifically for pets
It’s obviously red trim, not orange. Look at his water bottle in the cup holder… that’s orange!
True 😅
It feels like the S# from the Forester Sport, but with much more torque and high end.
