    I was working in Antigua in 1984 and shipped in a brand new XT600 from Miami because I had previously had an XT500 in the UK, the 600 was so much better in every way, it was class leader for some time until Honda got serious.

    Your right. Something about a thumper. To me, its got usable power. Power for every walk of riding. Simple to work on as well.

    I can understand I had an xt 550 Yamaha for 13 years, with front disk from the 600. Living in Greece 6 months on an island 6 months in Athens it was perfect. 93 up to 08.😊

    Nice mood, cool spirit, clever bike. Thanks for your work on this video!
    With the van you have a killer combo of simplicity and authenticity. It must attract serenity!
    Remember your XT600 bears the engine of her dirt enduro oriented big sis, the TT600. It was not engineered for long distance full throttle in 5th gear, but for more spread usage of the range of gears: 2/3/4/5... So the 5th gear pinion & wheel are Not oversized like you would expect on an adventure long ranger. It nevertheless does the job so well it's kudos to the work of these japanese designers. But the 5th pinion is very often the first to pit & wear down on the oldest XT600 models. I would say minimum respect of the engine, oil quality and change as often as possible...
    I had a 1987 XT600 2KF 25 years ago, and just bought a 1984 XT600 L identical to yours as a way of stopping to miss my first big thumper so much... I am still jealous of your van though .

    I have a 91' XT600 and absolutely love it! Just a quick note: try sourcing the original filter cap bolts, the bottom one is really peculiar and when inserted block an oil passage. If a random bolt is used, the passage will be left open and lower the oil pressure. Ask me how I know! anyway, you made a really good deal on it! great bike that can be thrown everywhere. If it werent for the emission regulations and restrictions here in Italy, i would keep it as my only bike.

      That happened to me in 1985, very sad to lose my XT500, police found the engine cases in a lake in Windsor and I got the alloy racing tank back and wish I still had it. Looking forward to rebuilding my barn find XT600e and recapturing those days again ✌🏻

    The yamaha xt600 here in Greece and i believe in many EU countries is considered a legend. I wanted to buy a snall enduro but cause of the lacks of parts the xt here in Greece is the only valid option. Sadly most of them are torn apart, meesed with or they are turned to supermotos etc. Also the prices have rised a bit along woth the xtx660 bit still os the most valif option as a low cost, really reliable bike

    Having an 03 600e for 8 years. It's just amazing. Best upgrade you can do is a set of Hyperpro springs front and back though. Best 275 bucks you can spend.
    And I love my Twinair filter and windscreen for thenhighway (but horrible offroad )

      @LoneWolfsMoto you're welcome! The progressive springs make a huge difference! More comfort and control.
      And for the twinair it's a foam filter that flows better, protects better, and even dirty flows way better! K&N has no places in all-road machines in my opinion :)

    Get rid of the stock carburetor and upgrade it to something better as I have. That motor is under carbureted. It will really liven the bike up and makes it way more enjoyable to ride!

    • @ElJeffe_
      @ElJeffe_ Місяць тому +1

      I have a ‘84 XT 600 and the YDIS carb works perfectly. Most people do not take the time to understand how they work and how to adjust properly so they will remove and try to adapt another setup. If it is not worn out and setup properly, there is not a better, more reliable option. I have 12 off-road bikes for different purposes (and I collect them). The XT600 is one of my faves to ride. Great video BTW.

    Dont know what kind of power your used to, but my 84 has plenty of power. And ive got a ducati monster s4r and a 93 kx500. My yamaha i took off the B.S. muffler and that really woke it up. I seen in the comments someone said replace the carb? W.T.F. little more to it. It has one carb and another that is a partial carb so to speak. A fuel metering block/ device. Never gave it much thought. Not sure youd run one somehow or have to run two carbs?? Anyway my 84 isnt a very good dirtbike. Way too heavy and soft suspension makes for the front wheel washing out on me. Thanks for ur video👍 try replacing the muffler with a better breather. When i did, it is alot different and didn't need any rejetting, seems to run cool enough and no lean spots

    Do you think it would be a good first dual sport? Im thinking about getting one with a electric starter

    • @ToadSprocket-bv6sy
      @ToadSprocket-bv6sy 3 місяці тому +2

      I guess no one responded to ur inquiry. I live in Oregon. I've got somewhere around 20 bikes. One being a 84 xt600lc. Really, really like it. I've also got a 80' xt500. They were kind of a turd with 29 hp. The 600 has 45. Feels a world different. No comparison. I don't know what's wrong with his. He said not much power?? On the highway I cruise 70 effortlessly. And just torque it around most times. What woke mine up is taking the bullshit muffler off. After my brother ride it I asked what he thought. He said "fast as any Harley I've road" maybe a exaggeration. But a test in a magazine they had one to 115mph. How I don't know. Now as far as a dirt bike.... Well ..plenty of power, but a little porky to toss around. And the frontend will wash out on you. Maybe it's my cheap tires, but the front forks seem a little soft. If you want a dual sport that your going to do mostly off-road. Then no, there's better. But very iconic and great bikes.. hope this helps

    • @lonewolfsmoto
      @lonewolfsmoto  2 місяці тому +1

      Sorry, I missed this comment. I would agree that it would be a good first dual sport. Great bikes to learn and get comfortable on. Power is a matter of perception I suppose - I don’t love the feeling of mine on the highway but around town and in the dirt it’s a blast.
