I think SV is going to go down as one of the best generations for the TCG. With how the sets are formatted, with IRs and SIRs, it’s impossible to have a bad set. Some sets are certainly more investable than others, like 151, but all of them will be looked back upon fondly with time. It’s an EX era, there’s a Gen 1 set, Eeveelution set, Team Rocket set AND a partner Pokémon set. Not to mention what else is yet to come.
You brought up very valid points. I want surging sparks but I am waiting until more is released. It’s hard to invest until you see the set. I still like treating pokemon as a fun hobby and I try to get the most bang for my buck. If something goes up and it allows me to sell off and add to my collection, well that’s great.
Look, stellar crown is a small set with a couple good chase hits, but I’m glad people are skipping over it, less demand is just less print runs for it. Surging sparks is probably going to be skipped too because of the eevee set coming out in January apparently. All in all, definitely getting my fair share of both
Honestly I am mastering SC and so fare it has been a joy to open and artwork is beautiful, probably will do the Surging Sparks too; then wait for the Trainer and Team Rocket
I'm only preordering 1 BB of SC for the sealed collection. Already preordered 2 BB's of Surging Sparks to open with my kids and chase the Pikachu "alt art".
In a way it comes down to what one means by “skipping a set”. Does that mean one will not buy any of it at all? Or just not a case? There are three main reasons why Surging Sparks is getting unanimous applause and hype and SC is sort of being forgotten. The first is that a major and completely legit chase card has already been revealed in the form of the Latias EX SIR that pairs with the Latios IR. We already see and understand that this will be huge. Second is that it is a massive set with over 20 IRs in it. It will be very hard for them to not hit on at least 5 or 6 of these in terms of them being super popular cards featuring beloved Pokemon. Third is that we can safely assume, despite having not seen it yet, that there is going to be a major Pikachu chase card that could include the rainbow border. What makes Surging Sparks so alluring to people is because what little we do know is already amazing and what we don’t know has tons of potential with so many IRs.
@@Itwasneveraphasecardsone thing I think a lot of people have in their head that they need to get out of it is this idea that if they can see that the upcoming set is going to suck because it won’t be the next Evolving Skies. I agree with the idea of withholding preorders on Surging Sparks or any other one with the exception in this case of the PC ETB. That could well be sold out well before the set actually comes out.
To me there is no competition. I get your point: kids are fond of the newest shiny set and will come back to it in 20 years. Like I did with SV 151 because I grew up with gen 1. Doesnt mean that you can allocate your budget. To me that means low on Shrouded (only ripped Greninja / Kingdra box for their promo, gave the packs to my little nephews) and 25/25/50 on Stellar/Surging so I can focus on the Trainer's Pokemon and Rocket set. Those are going to be the kickstart of the Evolving, Fusion, Chilling, Brilliant, Astral line up in SV era. I like those as collector and investor. Where as Stellar and Surging is more investing wise.
I see your point but it’s not so black and white. Look at crimson haze, darkness ablaze, vivid voltage. There are horrible sets with low demand. Doesn’t mean they’re gonna be a gold mine.
Kids are definitely the future, the terapagos card is sick and the first of its kind. terapagos also has a huge role in the anime which will add even more of a chase down the road
Most of the sets i have said ahh im not really interested in and chose not to invest in or even just rip for fun, have been some of the most sought after sets for investing. If your doing this for fun just go after what you want and from a strictly investing point you have to get as much product of each as you can, because its about the market and not what you like.
Look stellar crown is a good set I love the terapagos, galvantula, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, plus more but I think surging from the little we know already is a good investment. First, it's a much larger set with double the SIRs. Popular Mons like latios latias and a stellar alt art pika plus the set is based off dragons. if the hit rates stay difficult it will be a no brainer just based off what we know now and it could get much better or just a little better
@@Itwasneveraphasecardshow do you determine what is a specialty set or not? I’m like one month new, came from Magic. Some of this stuff is overwhelming with all the different sets and different little novelty boxes 😅
Tbh i think both sets are strong for different reasons. I think Surging is strong for us vintage fans and Stellar is strong for the future fans. Either way, I personally feel the market is artificially inflated with so many people in this hobby investing in everything. There is just an abundance of product nowadays to even consider true long term investing. Especially with pokemon reprinting its now becoming a Scalpers market and hype. Holding product long term outside of really special sets or unique products is just not worth it for the average small time customer.
Do I think it’s worth buying sealed BB for future resell? Yes, they’ll increase in price from where it’s at. Do I personally like the set? No. …. Same with SSparks but it’ll be better bc it already has a large amount of hype. Hype train is gonna be hard to derail. StellarCrown has never had the same amount of hype around it that SSparks has. So both buy for sealed resell.
Probably skipping Stellar tbh. Too early to tell which will be better as there are not many cards out for surging sparks. If I had to guess I would say surging sparks will be better. Larger set with already more desirable chases.
If there is no Flygon SIR in surging sparks I'm going to be FUMING. I've seen surging sparks preorders for 104.99. this is only the 2nd new set thats come out since I've been collecting again. Both have been sub 100 per box if you pre order, is that just because of the expected hype for this one?
Distributor pricing is the same, its the retailers that buy from distributors that are setting the price point. I think distributor pricing is like $88 per box but someone correct me if that's wrong. I don't have access to a distributor so I can not say for certain.
I think its disgusting currently for people to be selling cases straight from pokemon like drop shipping… The oldschool average person would buy two boxes and sell one to pay for the other type deal but now cards are abundant and products arent worth holding
don’t think so.the franchise is still huge. i live in the states and my 8 year says kids still bring cards in school. last year i was in japan and its even bigger overseas
NEITHER ! THESE PAST 2 SETS AND THE NEXT 2 ARE ABSOLUTE GARBAGE 🗑. will be back to the hobby when they actually start carrying about there collectors again . So gym heros and team rocket are the only sets I'll be buying.
Stellar or Surging and why? Would love to hear everyones opinion.
Stellar because I think it will have the rarest card
I got surging. Preordered some Stellar but have a sneaking suspicion that’s surging with its 11 SIR will have some bangers to come!
@brucelee4357 good I figure if we buy this stuff out prices will raise
@@brucelee4357 I ordered 2 cases of SS
151 What Else?
People are sleeping on Stellar Crown. Stellar Crown looks absolutely amazing and is guaranteed to be a hit.
Very insightful - I always tell people, modern today is going to be someone’s vintage tomorrow.
Very well said I like that
And by tomorrow you mean 20+ years though.

Completely agree 👍 This Era has produced beautiful cards.
Best era and best art work we have ever gotten hands down.
All I want is the bulbasaur and Squirtle alt art from stellar crown
Still not an alt art
Amazing cards I will be chasing them for sure

The Pikachu chase will be fun, really hope its a stunning card.
Surging sparks is looking like Twilight masquerade with earlier hype tbh, I'm excited for the following 2 sets though!
Very exciting times!
Pre-order are already hitting above 600. Set appreciation is happening sooner with SV due to lack of reprints
Yeah this Holiday season will be interesting to see what happens with reprints.
100% agree that this kids today will be nostalgic for the new era of pokemon
Might just take some time for the kids to grow up and start getting money but long term good investments.

Expect the unexpected…..noted! Still skipping crown and grabbing more surging spark boxes
Totally understandable and don't blame you at all.
I'm buying Stellar mainly because I'm highly disappointed by Shrouded Fable lol but I'm also buying Surging haha
Makes sense!
Skipping on stellar crown and just buying the bulba and squirtle alt art just cause i have the charmander waiting for its friends. Lol
Haha that Charmander is lonely and needs his buddies!
Which charmander card are you referring ?
That one that came in the ETB i believe if im not mistaken
I think Surging Sparks is going to be more valuable because of Pikachu
People will definitely chase Pikachu
ripnship arena has the cheapest preorder for spark that I've seen and its already sold out
Good info thanks for letting us know. Definitely going to be a popular set!
I still dont understand how people skip sets. Team up wasnt universally loved upon release.
Only sets I might skip are specialty sets like Shrouded. I'm never skipping a mainline booster box set.

The terapogos card is gorgeous in Japanese. I think it’s gonna be a hit in English

Stellar crown is way better than people are giving it credit for. Same thing happened with twilight….
It’s good but it’s not the next “big” release. We still have yet to see chase cards like we did in SWSH. Like a set with multiple 100$+ hits
Twilight really changed my perspective on things for sure.
