I was born and raised 20 minutes from Boston, MA. At the age of 17, I was diagnosed with Anxiety. My personal experience with the prescribed medication was NOT POSITIVE. So I decided to find better way. I didn't know it at the time but, that was the BEGINNING for me! I have been “FINDING A BETTER WAY” in all areas in my life ever since. Better ways of how to create a modern homestead affordably, and a better way to provide my family with healthy foods, and so….. much MORE!
At Lumnah Acres we hope our experiences can help guide you to find YOUR BETTER WAY! Please join us in sharing our journey with you, let us be a guide to Modern Homesteading, Self-Sufficiency, and FREEDOM for you!
New Videos 5 Days A Week!!!
Your sit down meal is very inspiring to me, as I hope it is to others.
So nice to see a family praying together.
Awwwweee little Hope is spunky as always 💓💞 cannot wait to have piggy on the farm again 🤗
My favorite part of the day. It's like Norman Rockwell moved to the farm. Takes me back to a more innocent time in America. Thank you Lumnahs.♥️
I love watching your family and farm activities. I'm finding I need happy things to watch right now. Thank you for all you do for us.
Love. Chicago Grandma
I make shepherds pie once every fortnight. Living by myself it can last me for six meals. Try adding one or two big chopped onions to the meat, frying first. I must admit I add carrots to as a good extender, and of course peas. Shepherds pie for me is not Shepards pie without peas. To the mashed potatoes I add one egg, milk or cream, butter, a healthy grind of pepper, salt, and a good cup grated sharp cheddar cheese, then fork the mixture over the meat and vegetables. I leave all the fork marks on the top of the pie. Cook the pie in the oven and then under the grill for 5 to 10 minutes so that it gets beautifully golden brown and crunchie on the top. Enjoy 😁
My STARS!! You have me drooling!!
goat cheese mixed in the potatoes 'shepherds pie' is traditionally made with lamb or mutton.YUM YUM
James Worth ❤️! I’m coming to your house for dinner! I’ll bring dessert!
The new pig pen will be awesome to see a couple of piglets running around! Have a Great Day!
My mom used to make Shepherds Pie from the leftover lamb from Easter dinner. She'd add onions, garlic, peas & carrots to it. I'm not a fan of creamed corn. Yay, I love piglets and you raise them right. They are always happy and you harvest them with kindness & dignity. We need a "where's Moose" t-shirt, I haven't seen him lately. Blessings to all.
I love that you all talk to your animals. I talk to my chickens and my grandkids ask who am I talking to. I got up to freeze this morning thankful that my daughter warned me about getting my spring plants out again. I'm anxious to get started. I canned 21 quarts of chicken this weekend.Blessings
WOW!! I am impressed!🌞🕊🤠🐱🐝🌱
That new electronic equipment is excellent. Super high-quality sound and audio.
You always get a lot of work done. Baby pigs will be so cute. 💖🐐💖
All that winter's fluf will be perfect for the birds nesting boxes. The more birds the better for controling bugs. We only have a small garden but we have encouraged the birds to come in with boxes and feeders and we have noticed a fall in bug numbers. Keep well and safe
Goooood morning Al. Hey how far are you behind on your videos? I noticed the babies on FB. Absolutely love your channel and noticed how many people recommend your channel. Have a very blessed day Sir. Also stay healthy
Argh! No spoilers! ;)
Loved seeing the pig pen going back up. I love watching and listening to their grunts! I was never raised around farm animals....town girl....so now in my ole age I’m enjoying living a life I’m not familiar with, thru your family. Thank you.
Hi Al & Girls, don't know if you have seen them but there are SPIKED METAL POST's you hammer into the ground then place any type of post you are using INTO them, much stronger support,(no need to dig holes) better than wood straight into soil, will last a life-time, great to see the start of all that is now happening around the homestead.Stay safe, Stay well!!.
Hey, Al, thinking about the piglets reminds me of the walk-in refrigerator you built. Some new viewers may never have seen it. And I would like to see how you use it in your daily life once in a while. I was wondering the other day how your fridge had room for those big jugs of broth and then I remembered the walk-in. New viewers might also want to see a link to how you raised chicks before the lnsulated brooder-mobile. When I think back to what the homestead looked like just a short time back when I started watching (Great American Farm Tour), I marvel at the progress your industriousness has resulted in. The pigs were clearing out the apple orchard, there were no goats and NONE of the current outbuildings. Congratulations!
Yeah, I'd like a link to the walk-in fridge!
Watching the hens running to the food is so cute! :)
We had Shepherd's Pie over the weekend! I often make it with ground turkey! I cook up my meat & veg in a cast iron dutch oven, that way I simply spread the potatoes on top & pop it right into the oven! Great comfort food on a chilly Spring evening! ❤️
Please check the gutters on the pig mobile to Al, winters snow and ice takes a toll. You guys are way ahead of the curve this spring for planting and raising.
I always enjoy watching your pigs and now I get to see them start as piglets.
Fence post tip:after you start to fill the hole back up with dirt, use an old shovel or rake handle to poke in around the post to pack the dirt. It packs it down better than a shoe and makes post more solid. Just a tip from an old ranchwoman. Blessings from Austin Texas. Can't wait to see those piglets. I am getting some red wattles soon just haven't told hubby yet. Surprise, surprise, surprise......lol
Favorite element of the video is when you all sit together as a family and eat and do preyers before eating is what I call - that’s what’s up!!
As a fellow NH folk the next upcoming days seem to be nice! Today it’s nice out! Our goats and their baby’s are loving this warm weather
Olivia loves Shepherd's pie! Shepherd's pie was one of my late husband's favorite meals too. We made it just like you do Gina. Well, earlier in my 20's, I made it with vegetables in it, but when I married my husband, he liked it with just the creamed corn. I used a can of creamed corn and a can of whole corn. Great dish done both ways, with just corn or with the vegies. Can't wait for the baby goats and pigs. It's fun to see the goat's personalities.
I have become a complete FAILURE at the egg count...😂🤣😅 . Mama says that's what happens when you get to " smarty pants" about being right. ( she's only gotten it right twice...hee, hee🤭🤭) I need to get on a winning streak, cause my hands are getting pretty chapped from having to handwash the dishes every night. 😁
Gina, your Shepard's Pie looked wonderful. Would have liked to had "smell- a-vision " for that. 😁
The homestead is really looking awesome and I believe all your preparation and hard work as a family is really going to pay off. Thank you , as always, for allowing us to be apart of your journey . I am encouraged each day and always seem to find something in each video to inspire me to try something new, or revamp something to make it better and more efficient. Learning to, " work smarter, not harder".
Stay safe and healthy. God bless you with wisdom and strength as you draw close to Him.🐓💕🙏😊
We just bought a house where we can have a little homestead. While we have propane heat, we’ve been using fires (we have three of them) to heat the house. I will never get enough of that smell! It’s warm enough here maybe seven months of the year where we won’t need fires, but I’m enjoying it while it’s still stormy. 😊 You don’t need smellovison with me! 😂
Hi Al, on those wooden post, what l have done is to keep the post in a pail of used oil that treats it good .
Shredded cheddar on top in the last ten minutes really adds flavor.
Yea, I use Sharp Cheddar on top of mine :)
Good luck with your bacon seeds this year.
You all stay healthy. Thanks for sharing. See ya :)
Good morning. 🌞 Enjoy it when you talk to your boys and girls. Men spend half of their life looking for their tools. We had Shepard’s pie last night. My favorite.
Thanks for the video! I'm so glad everyone is safe and healthy.
The new mic is a bit muffled, but the new camera is fine.
Great choice, Livy.
When fixing the water pipe on the PPM, try to get some of the gray-colored exterior PVC conduit. It won't rot from the sun's UV rays like the white ones did. I know the pigs or or some other blunt force probably caused the damage but it may have held up better if it wasn't made brittle by sunlight.
Gina that shepherd pie looked yummy. It was nice to see Olivia hug you. Hope your spirits remain focused on the Lord during this tough time!
In the UK we also put fried carrots and onions in our shepherds pie.
I do too. My Granny's family was from Isle of Man & Falmouth.
Geoffrey Hirst Fried, like caramelized?
Enjoyed, watching you'll build pen & mornings ritual. Shepherd pie-in any name you want to call is GOOD, Blessings to family & thanks for sharing
Great work, Al. Next time you're in Tractor Supply you might take a look at the post hole digger. I've put in miles and miles of fencing over the years and not once have I ever used a shovel. Makes pretty quick work of digging a post hole.
Olivia loves shepherds pie!! Smart girl!!! The camera and Mic are great. Noticeably cleaner, crisper. Willow!! Have you checked her ligament at the base of her tail? Over and Weed em and Reap they're waiting on a Willow too!! Her ligament have been very loose for so long they expected her to go first but now she's in last place! Lol And new it's count down Tu pigs! And we wait to see what Olivia is gonna name them!! Love you guys! 💙🐐💚🐖💜🐖💛
My bolt cutters didn’t cut very well either but I found that I could adjust the jaws. The jaws now close completely level and cut even fine wire. Give it a go. Can’t wait for those new babies!
Birds love hair to make nests. You should leave the goat hair in pasture for the birds. Just a thought. Can't wait for pigs! Stay safe
Love seeing the animals.
Thanks for the low down on the coveralls Al! I’d say it’s time to add a post hole digger to your inventory...just don’t put it with the bolt cutters...where that is!😉😁 It’s PIG 🐖 time again!! Now, the names!!
IN UK WE USE LAMB MINCE WITH ONION CARROTS IN SHEPHERDS PIE THE CLUE IS IN THE WORD SHEPHERD YOU KNOW SHEEP
The goats are so cute when they get brushed by Mom and Livy like Cottage Pie.
Good morning. 3things 1- how about bacon and bits for the pigs names this year. I remember what is was about living traditions in their 2nd tunnel. 2- winch bottom posts so the tops slid down into them and 3- they made several hooks to their plastic and threw it over the top then they pulled gently and the plastic went up over and down the other side with no one getting on a ladder. They just did it in the last couple of months. Hopefully you will find it helpful on your first one. Have a blessed day.
Livy, you need a nice Morgan or Cobb horse so you can learn to ride. Al you are the perfect person to teach her and then when she is ready ....dressage. I can just see her now and all the beautiful matching tack she can get. Haters and lead ropes, saddles and pads all matching.... oh I miss those days. She would have lots of room for it in that nice barn. Bring out some video of dad riding and post pics of horses all over the house, he has to say yes! Blessings from Austin Texas. Love y'all.
So blessed 😊💜 stay safe and sane
☮️❤️😊🐝
We make that a lot here in Australia but it’s called cottage pie and we put onions in with the beef and fry them it brings the flavour out better. Then we add carrots and peas to the meat. I put a sprinkle of shredded cheese on top of the potatoes also. It’s a big favourite with our kiddos.
A post hole auger might be easier then a shovel ... Gonna have to make a fencing tool box ... If you turn the top hinge pin to point down an animal (or person) can't lift the gate off and open it ... New camera works ... New mike changes your voice down half a notch in tone ... I have that black star mashy stiring thingy ... Love it ... Tried a ricer ... Missed my lumps ... If you like onions, add carmelized onions on top ...
I like the overalls Al, they are practical and green is my favorite color.
In Montana we put a light sprinkle of paprika on top of the potatoes. Makes the dish look prettier. Looked delish!
With the water table you have I'd be very tempted to dig a very large drywell for a sistern and do all my garden watering from it. You'd never run out of water, even if you had a drought, not that you've ever had one.
Flair thank you got you’re help with his 🐐
For the pigs have you thought about fencing a bigger area and dividing it into 2 or 4 sections, then rotating the sections so you don't have to put up a new enclosure every year? You'd just have to take down one panel at a time to move the PPM into a new section. Then after a few years you move the fenced area and plant the area with veggies.
mimi so - That's their initial area, when they get used to the 2 strand electric fence they will be moved around pasture just using electriv fence.
@@tonygrimes13 I got that. I wasn't referring to the initial area. I was thinking long term into having a larger pasture broken into sections to rotate the pigs without having to move the fence every year, because the soil is so rocky and hard to sink posts. Thanks for your clarification.
You might want to get a post hole digger and I build a 2 mile long fence with those steel posts and clips and I found that I could use a phillips screw driver to twist the clips around the steel post.
Love how you helped out Flair with his goats. You are a good dude and look forward to seeing each show great content. Stay safe and keep up the outstanding experience
Al, when you fix the watering nipple supply line, use pex. It’s more flexible and won’t be so brittle
Such a Beautiful and loving family❤❤❤
Good mauhnin Lumnah Acres!
Al, take a look at the Dewalt fence stapler, its 20v and drives 9 gauge fence staples. As much as you work on fence it would be very handy.
A suggestion on the pig water use pecs pipe instead of PVC it doesn't freeze as easy and break
Omg I got the same dematting brush for my NGs and they LOVE it too! 😊 I especially love watching you as I'm also from NH, and have NGs and chickens. I have Mini Rex rabbits as well. I learn so many awesome ideas from you and appreciate your willingness to share your family and experiences with us!! 🥰
Over here in the UK shepherds pie is made from Lamb mince and Cottage pie is made from Beef mince.Try peas instead of corn, and loads of cheese on top of potatoes..Yummy
I use creamed corn in my Shepards pie. Keeps it moist and I love creamed corn!
i use a mix of both corn
PEX pipes are way less likely to freeze and crack. Do yourself a favor on the pig watering system. I love your channel! Keep up the good work!
Al, you need a clamshell post hole digger. Easier, faster, disturbs less ground.
Use PEX for the water from the rain barrel.
Hard working family. Dinner looks good.
Good afternoon Goat Mountain .... three words AL .... post hole digger ~8^) How many piglets this year? I guess you can only have enough pigs to fit in the PPM? I think the piglets will be happy to have the boys as neighbors.Things are gonna pick up on your farm exponentially very shortly .... not to mention your bees thrown in the mix. Have fun and take care AL, Gina & the dog whisperer Olivia.
If Livvy like them, try adding some sauted onions, carrots and peas to the shepherds pie. We do that in the UK and it's delicious!
That sounds like it would make the shepard's pie so much better.
@@LumnahAcres But please, NOT, creamed sweetcorn!
Gina uses both whole AND creamed corn, peas and onions...I’m tellin ya, she makes the BEST shepherd pie!! Well, as good as my mothers!!😉😁
I was going to offer ths same advise of peas and onion
cooked carrot is sugar,
Peas and carrots, some onions along with the corn.
BTW. Cottage Pie w/ Hamburger. Shepherd's Pie with ground Lamb
I love 💕 your videos thanks for sharing
I can believe that kids/baby goats can too. I used to raise goats with the cow panels
Let the spring begin... it won’t be long now! Here piggy piggy...🐖🐖
Morning al and hope the beautiful goat her mum just had her sister
Shepard pie is made with lamb. Olivias favorite is Cottage pie
I Love that two of my favorite channels have goats named Willow that are going to give birth to babies any day now! They also are connected by Weed em and Reap's little dancing goat full of joy, Hope who flew up to live on Al, Gina & Olivia's farm. Watching these channels is so entertaining and I've learned so much from both of these well balanced hardworking creative loving families. Thanks for brightening up our days!!!
Hey Al I love the new camera and pig pen looks great I remember when you were first starting out on the farm you have done so much and came a long long way I love you guys and I love liveys new horse lol
Watching this video brings back so many memories as a kid. I grew up on a dairy farm and we sold and moved and bought some goats. We're not ready to have animals on our property as we are clearing it and will have to put a driveway in. The plan was to put it in the summer but that is on hold for now. Anyone interesting in our progress please come and check out our channel. We're always looking for new subscribers. Thanks all!
Living the Northern Life- We were a dairy farm and switched to grass fed beef breeding stock. Good lifestyle! I will check out your channel. All the best!
@@dianehall5345 Thanks Diane! My new property is a bit of a drive so we don't get there as often as we would like. It's right next door to my stepfathers but now with what's going on we can't even go to visit :(
Gotta love them t-posts
Shepherds"s Pie. We make ours..ground meat, then creamed corn, American cheese, mashed potatoes..all layered in the pan, in that ordered meat, etc. yum
Chicks getting big
Well done...I LIKE your green overalls!
heck if I was willow I would wait too. The stall you put her in is much colder then the one the other goats are in. There is no door to block the wind and keep in the heat.
My mother used to drag a fork across the potato to make peaks and they would go crunchy in the oven
Thank you for sharing your days with us. Olivia has grown up so much in the last year or so its crazy to look pack at past videos.
She is a sweet girl and so good with the animals.
Al its crazy to see how much you get done each day, in Australia we would say you are like the energiser bunny, (a Duracell battery mascot that is always on full charge)
Gina you are getting so much more confident with being on camera. I went and got myself a potato squeeze thing after watching you use one. Thank you for that. Stay safe stay healthy.
Fingers crossed for 3 beautiful goat kids this week
The picture quality is much better on your new camera Al. And the sound seems lower and clearer.
Cottage pie you have good taste livvy xx
I love pigs! I was expecting you to have to dig out rocks for your gate corner, ha!
My moms shepherds pie was made with hamburger, green beans and tomato soup with mashed potatoes on top. Then topped with cheddar cheese. Then baked. Yummo! My hubby doesnt like the green beans in it. So I make it in 2 separate dishes. That way we each get what we like. 😁🥔
New mic sounds GREAT! I could hear the difference before you mentioned it.
I fork ridges over the top of the shepherds pie then you get crispy bits. Plus I like a sprinkle of paprika on the top. Looked really yummy. . I also thought Al looked like a gnome in his green overalls. They look like they work awesome though
Ha ha .....🤣. it seems the chickens can’t remember how they escaped, to know how to get back in 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🐔🐔🤣🤣🤣.....And.....Gina.....I was wonder what to fix for dinner tonight....you solved my problem...Shepherd’s Pie. 👍👍👍👏👏👏Thanks for info. 🤗.
😆 so funny! The second chicken to go under the fence in the morning looks like she’s picking up her skirt and running with her petticoats! 😂 I had a smile on my face during the whole video! I really look forward to your shows ! Take care of each other🌻
Camera is very clear- great picture
Well done Lumnah's! 👍😁
I like this mic better for outdoor recording, the other one made robot sounding vibrations in the rain
I really liked the way you made a designated, firm area to begin your piglets in. I had wondered how I could do this. You gave me many wonderful ideas today. Also, as a former goat dairy lady with 20 years experience I would keep a sharp eye on Willow's udder. It will double in size just before kidding. Might consider shaving her bag as well as private area at base of tail to aid in cleanliness. Trimming hooves too might be a plus. Of course you, too, have kidding experience and have your own vision and routine....I mean no offense. Hope you have a wonderful Spring.
I watch all your videos and enjoy them all. Thinking like you are building your own little town or village and doing a tremendous 'job of what your have accomplished. Love all your animals especially the goats. It makes my day. Thank you for sharing.
My mom used to add cheddar cheese to the top so it would brown. Mmmmmm good!
It my favourite too
