There's a lot of competing handhelds coming out and I would say not to buy them. The whole Steam Deck from top to bottom is all thoughtfully designed to make for a great integrated experience. In comparison, other products hamfisted Windows into a handheld gaming experience that feels awful to use.
100% agree. It’s good to see competition though! As a creator I don’t want them to stop so it gives me an excuse to keep testing them out 😂
@@StewdioGamerno, totally do buy them then install something like bazzite or chimera on them that way you still get the steam deck experience with more powerful hardware :)
We need a steamdeck ultra, as powerful as legion go
I agree the steamdeck is a balanced and complete device, best user experience, instant game restart, best battery time, oled screen, best controls, etc.
But the other devices have their own benefits, faster processor, faster gpu, bigger screen, higher resolution.
What to choose depends on your personal preferences.
@@2greenifyYeah, everything's a compromise. You can have a faster device but less battery life. You can have a higher resolution screen but games will run slower. The Steam Deck already makes balanced compromises that most people would be happy with.
As an older gamer and a dad that steam deck has given me so much more gaming time than I used to have when limited to consoles on the TV in my front room. Adore it.
Absolutely agree. Being able to move around the house and get through your game library has been game changing.
The Steam Deck has been absolutely amazing for me as well. My wife has been open to some light gaming, but just never got around to it much. We got matching Steam Decks, and now we game together all the time. I'm absolutely loving it!
That’s awesome! I can get my wife to play Mario kart on our switch but that’s about it 😂.
What games do u guys play together?
@TheOneWhoSuffers So far it's more us playing the games we each want to play, but next to each other. Although I anticipate she'll like playing overcooked, plate up, and it takes two. We've also played lots of Borderlands together before.
@TheOneWhoSuffers As far as single player, she's been playing Hogwarts Legacy a lot and I've been playing Vampire Survivors or whatever roguelike game I've been feeling like at the moment. Also Spider Man Remastered and games like that.
@@phtevenstevin4625 that's very cute of you guys 🫠❤️❤️
The opener, “got me to change my UA-cam content,” got me to sub and stick around. This is 100% me. I was a huge gamer, had kids, lost access to my TV, kids got older and became the gamers. In comes Steamdeck. I have finished 12 games last year, prior to that I finished Elden Ring and that was it over the last 10 years.
Thanks for watching and subscribing! Elden Ring is so good on the deck. I spent so much time last year playing it but eventually got stuck on Malenia. My “battlemage” build gets destroyed by her and I need to go back and figure it out.
Yeah, the Steam Deck OLED has been a game changer for me. I absolutely love this device. I thought it would just be a nice companion device to my powerful desktop PC and PS5, but I ended up gaming on it more than my other systems.
I still think it’s a fantastic companion device for anyone with a console or that does PC gaming. They’ll just figure out quick after they buy a steam deck they are spending the majority of time playing it instead of their console or PC 😂.
got the 1tb model, and the screen doesn't look too good. I know it's etched glass but still. I tested it by playing an all black screen on youtube and it looks weird especially compared to my oled phone screen
@@jjmmm515 seen a test of the etched glass with gloss screen protector and it looks way better
I'm an old school gamer! I remember the arcade games of the 70s and 80s! My Deck Oled arrives tomorrow! I'm super stoked!!!!
Congrats! You’ll love it!
I am delighted to have acquired the Steam Deck OLED after selling the first-generation model last year. The Steam Deck OLED is a significant improvement and aligns better with my expectations. I am thoroughly enjoying it and find it conveniently fits into my busy schedule.
The battery life and screen have been fantastic upgrades. I still enjoy the LCD just as much though that’s still a beast on its own.
Valve really bridged the gap between console and PC with the steam deck. I like it as a console gamer, because it doesn’t feel like a PC. PC gamer like it because it doesn’t quite feel like aconsole, and they don’t have to be stuck at their desk.
Perfectly said.
the oled is absolutely fantastic, definitely worth going for, it's just brilliant
Totally agree!
yup totally agree. People who don't own it or are on the fence of upgrading from the LCD should just go and get it.. big big difference.
It’s funny when you gave your story bout your relationship with gaming felt so similar to my experience. Loved your video.
Haha that’s good! I hesitated to even make this video so I’m glad others are finding similarities.
I know what it's like being a dad with no time to game lmao. I'm 23 with 2 kids under 2. One 19 month year old and 1 1 month year old. Between naps and sleeping I only really get about 2 hours max every otherday day. The day between I am busy doing chores and other things I need to do. Steandeck has been pretty important to my mental health.
It’ll get better. My kids are 7 and 3 and as their sleeping habits improve I’ve been able to game more or have more free time. Hang in there dude!
I just got my OLED last week and Steam Deck is the best device, hands down.
Congrats!
You'll find out that it is the best emulator machine ever. The ease of changing setting/ controller per game is best
I always found my Christmas presents as a kid. Always threatened I wouldn’t get them. I always did!
Haha I almost edited this part out. As a parent now I understand how much of a PITA hiding presents is. I’m glad this part of the video resonated with you and others!
Feel you. I bought mine last week. I’m 32 and a dad of a 2 year old and a 2 month old. It’s nice to play games in between the busy moments where its to slow to start my gaming PC or when I’m not at home. I also have a switch but the performance is too weak, the ergonomics aren’t right and I don’t want to buy games twice since i already have a ~200 game steam library.
Oh yeah you definitely get it then. I have a 3 and 7 year old trust me it gets easier! Thanks for watching.
I have only had my steam deck OLED for about 3 weeks now but I'm loving it and I'm happy I got one take a while to save up for it but over all I'm happy with it
congrats on your steam deck OLED purchase! I’m glad you’re enjoying it and thanks for watching the video.
I got my OLED in December 23 as a Christmas present to myself and I'm so glad I did. I love this thing, makes me feel like a kid again. It can be annoying setting things up but once you do it's awesome.
Hell yeah! Congrats on getting a steam deck. The OLED model is my go to for sure right now.
I love it especially since a lot of the lcd models are cheap on ebay, bought a used one with 1 tb ssd, robotto case, leather skin for $400 and it comes tomorrow! can't wait
Nice score! Yeah around me on facebook marketplace you can sometimes get a used lcd model for $250 which is crazy.
I seen that one. I remember all the extras and the Robotto bag.
I was tempted but it was out of my budget, due to losing everything in my house fire recently (but I need to escape in my downtime with all this mess).
Great video, man :)
When my kiddos were baby/toddler, the newly released switch was the only way I could play games in my tiny pockets of free time each night.
Now with them older and both often taking up our 2 TVs, I can't wait to get my Steam deck (I ordered monday) in the mail!
Thanks appreciate it! You’re going to love it I’m excited for you.
I really like my steamdeck. I’m a big fan of handhelds and it sidesteps the issue they normally have, where noone wants to make games for them. Love being able to just install whatever I want, even if it doesn’t work perfectly. The OLED model’s screen is so nice, as well. Perfect for games that looked best on CRTs
It handles just about anything. If you’re not an FPS “snob” it’s the perfect device.
@@StewdioGamer Definitely! Worst case you have to deal with 30 frames, but I like that I can tweak and change stuff to improve performance
Can’t wait to get my deck and whip it out on the go
You’re going to love it I promise you!
@@StewdioGamer would it be worth getting over gaming on an m1 iPad Pro ?
I agree wish you. Plus the dock I now primarily buy my games on steam and play on the deck. It's a fantastic mini pc. SteamOS is what makes it so great so even if there are better hardware I think they can't beat the steamdeck due to software.
Definitely agree. Thanks for watching!
I own a ps5 and the steam deck and i am fully covered with them.
One thing i want to bring from a console gamer point of views is that steam deck makes gamimg pc very accessible to me.
Now i just need to save for a proper gaming pc, and once I have enough, buy the part, assembled it and my game will be ready for me.
I highly recommend the deck if you are manly a console player.
Nice! Do you stream to your deck from your PS5? Chiaki?
I agree i have to admit my steamdeck oled became my ultimate daily favorite console despite my PS5, PC or whatever. I only wish Valve could implemented an 1080p oled screen instead of just 800p soecifically for cloud gaming abilities. Still its probably the best screen available right now in handheld market (beside smartphones).
I really hope the next one has an 8 inch 1080p screen! Would be epic my friend.
The Steam Deck is great! I got mine at launch and it has completely replaced my consoles, for the most part. I personally built my gaming PC and the thing is a beast, but I'll admit the most use it gets these days are when I'm playing online focused games (which isn't daily), play D&D or MTG on Discord, take online classes, or work remotely. Other than that I'm practically on my Steam Deck most of the time unless I'm playing that occasional Switch exclusive or a PlayStation studio game/fighting game on my PS5.
Nice! You have a ton of game systems to play on. Yeah I was contemplating upgrading my GPU in my PC but with how little I play it now it’s not even worth it.
As a father, your video was perfect! That's the use case I need
Haha thanks for watching man. You won’t regret it!
I just bought a new oled SD and i have knocked off alot from backlogged games. So easy to boot and play & not restrained to my pc!
Nice! Congratulations! It definitely helps with getting through your backlog.
I was definitely like you didnt get into the steam deck game until a few weeks ago and man its changing how I game and how I feel bout it so I feel you on your analogy, steam deck as a whole is superior to me compared to legion go and rogue ally but not taking away from the power of those 2
Thanks for watching!
the deck is to my PC what the vita was to my ps4. I still main my desktop but I love love love being able to jump onto the deck and continue whatever I had going on
Nice! That’s exactly what I wanted in the beginning and now I would say steam deck is my primary device and I only play the PC when I want to play something at higher resolution or Call of duty.
Best gaming mobile handheld device. It’s like a no-brainer.
Agreed 😁
Definitely steam deck is best device ever I'm waiting for Steam Spring sale on March 14th can't wait huge price drops AA games.
I've been saving up since a month can't wait to. Buy games that I'll play sooner!
My experience with the Deck has been mixed. I preordered the 64gb version, got it a few qeeks after launch, downloaded a bunch of emulated roms and eventually ran into the shader cashe error. I tried all kinds of fixes and nothing worked. I didnt touch it for 9 months.
Then one day I decided to pull the SD card and just factory reset it. All of my games are still there but Im afraid/too lazy to redownload the emulators that activate them. Now I just play official Steam games on it, which is only less than half the reason I bought it.
Use emudeck. Makes things a lot easier and works fantastic with steam deck. Highly recommend installing emudeck directly to the SSD and the roms to a microSD card.
Bought my steam deck back in December for Christmas wished I bought one sooner in 2020
At least you have one now! Sounds like you love it though. Thanks for watching.
@@StewdioGamer yeah take it everywhere with me. Great for emulation and steam library is quite vast
I want one so baddd
Crossing my fingers you’re able to get it one day!
Aah the precious PWM flicker visible in this video. Some of us cannot handle it without eye strain and headaches. I am happy for those who can.
Sorry about this. If I can mitigate this in the future I will. My camera does have a setting for variable shutter. I’ll do some testing on that and some of the premiere pro tricks to help eliminate most if not all.
Being able to configure inputs with virtually infinite combinations is really my most favorite part of the Steam Deck.
Nice video man, i'm also playing ac oddesey right now. great on the deck
I haven’t played it just yet but it’s in my backlog. I’ve played Valhalla and a lot of the older ones but stopped playing them for a while because they became repetitive. I’ve read so many good things on odyssey though.
As much as I hate Ubisoft now and refuse to ever buy one of their games again, I love AC: Odyssey, haven't played it on my deck yet though, your comment makes me want to go back and try it.
bought my oled in december. i didn’t play anything other than warframe on pc for 2 years. deck made me love gaming again. it runs everything i wanna play which is mainly single player adventure games and emulation. ive wanted something like this since a kid and valve have killed it. blessings fellow gamers 👐🏼
also brother you’ve earned a new sub, great content 🤞🏼
Hell yeah they’ve killed it. Can’t wait to see what else they come up with in the future. Thanks for watching and welcome to the channel!
The Oled is nice but i have the OG model. I'll wait until the steam deck 2 comes out to upgrade
Not a bad idea I still love the LCD model. Even while making this video I still greatly enjoyed playing games on it!
The only props I’m giving the deck is the appraise for making the handheld if they didn’t I probably would have my legion go or my rog ally or ayaneo 2
You have a lot of great devices there. Each has their benefits for sure.
All those competitors focusing on power but does not have a battery to match it, is setting themselves up for failure. The point of handheld devices is its mobility. It's not mobile if you frequently need to be tethered.
Yeah that’s a big issue. An hour and a half to two hours for some other devices is just bad.
This is the future
Thanks for watching!
Lol I bought a psp when I was 13 after saving years of birthday money and my dad sent it to Poland to my cousins because gaming is “evil”. Man time flies
I love my steam deck amazing piece of tech however i almost enjoy my sons ally more now on certain things.Asus has done a great job of uodates and that extra power comes in handy with newer titles but really the vrr screen makes it seem like i feel no dips and input lag is handled better. However i dont have the oled version so kinda want to trade in my old deck.I just enjoy the xenia emulator on kids ally.Playing red dead redemption portable ia awesome and deck only hits 20frames with it
I’ve heard great things about the ally. It just depends on what you play and how important that extra performance is from the z1 extreme. Ergonomics, battery life, and user experience are where the steam deck excels. The OLED model is a great upgrade but if you already have an ally and lcd steam deck I’d wait and see what else comes out this year. I’m really looking forward to the rog ally 2 whenever that ends up getting released.
I have a Xbox series x and since I bought the steam deck oled little over a month ago I haven’t touched my Xbox since. I play a lot of red dead redemption 2, F1 23 and borderlands 3. I’m honestly thinking about selling my Xbox. I also bought a rog ally and the first one the left thumb stick messed up within 2 days and the second one the games kept crashing and it would froze up a lot so I returned it
Sorry to hear about the rog ally that sucks. Yeah most people find that after buying a steam deck it replaces their primary console or pc. Convenience, design, performance, user experience is just too good on steam deck.
Same for me, never touched my Xbox again! Only exception is streaming Netflix 🤣
Steam Deck for all games except the very demanding, with a small gaming rig aside to be able to handle 800p very high details in streaming for very demanding AAA.
With this size screen I think the 800p looks great. Especially the OLED model wow!
i just wish the deck could play destiny and cod thats really the only down fall but totally worth getting if you play other games too
Yeah that is a bummer I agree. For me I don’t mind so much as I don’t play FPS games often anymore. I’d probably play COD on my PC if I got the itch.
@StewdioGamer yea tbh I probs wouldn't play cod that much mostly destiny but I tend to only use my steam deck when my illness is playing up and I can't sit at my desk.
Steam Deck= Perfect 4 gamers Dads💯♥️
Absolutely! Gamer Dads rejoice 😁🙏
I'm 25 and I work 60 hours a week. I bought a steam deck 😁
Please compare it against Asus Rog Ally soon
I would if I owned it. Waiting for rog ally 2 most likely unless I find a used deal I can’t pass up.
mine is coming in 2 weeks letsgooooo
mad max , dying light 2 and hades run so amazingly good on the deck
You’re going to love it!
2:45 What game title is this??? 🤔🤔
Looks great.
What is the gane called @1:40?
All games run just as great from the sd card so I don't feel the need to upgrade my ssd yet.
Would you say it is still worth getting if I have a switch? I'm REALLY trying to talk myself into getting one lmao. I keep going back and forth hahaha. I want one so bad. I want to treat myself. I've been working hard and have more than enough saved up.
If you’re going to buy another handheld the Steam Deck is your best option definitely. If money is tight you’ll be plenty happy with the LCD model.
@@StewdioGamer What do you think about between the etched glass or glossy? Which is better?
@@theNimbooI personally like glossy screens but that's because I subjectively feel the image is sharper.
how can you get Ninja Gaiden II to run on the deck? I could never get into the first level.
I don’t play ninja gaiden II in this video so I’m not sure what you mean. Give me a time stamp and I’ll tell you what I’m playing.
Can someone help and tell me what game that is at 2:43 seconds . It looks really cool
I think you’re talking about Hades. It is a fun game!
What game is at 1:48?
Elden Ring is the game
I love Steam Deck because I can just turn it off. And if I turn it back on, I'm back where I left it. Like the PS5 rest mode. You can't simply do that to a PC without spending too much power.
Love the resume feature. Happens to me all the time where I need to turn it off quickly and come back to it in an hour or the next day.
Steam deck needs more power. Because at the 500 price point you can get a entry level laptop that may not be as handheld as the deck, but it packs a lot more power than the deck.
I hate gaming on laptops personally so I don’t think that’s valid for everyone but I understand your point.
You’re over valuing sheet specs my guy. Power isn’t everything.
Case in point -> watch my Claw vs SD OLED video 🫣
Steam is better than the Game console For me
I’m definitely satisfied with not owning a console. The steam deck OLED is just too good!
Even if Deck cant play a game you like, its easy to install Windows on an SD card you can boot from. So in the worst case scenario on Deck, youre only as bad as the competition, not worse.
Very true! Thanks for watching.
One thing i disagree with... You said the steamdeck inspired other companies to come out with their own handheld. Nintendo inspired steam. Nintendo inspired them all to create their own handhelds. Before the switch, none of these companies were making handhelds. And ebfore someone types that these are pc handhelds therefore steamdeck inspired them, it doesnt matter what the operating system is. Nintendo inspored them all to make handhelds. Nintendo once again revolutinised the gaming industry and lead the pack into a new era.
They previously had inspired sony to make the psp, after the success of the handheld gameboy systems.
I just meant specifically PC handhelds and the ones that have came out over the past year. Nintendo inspired every brand I would say 😂.
Are you emulating red dead 1 on ps3 or Xbox? I tried ps3 and it runs awful, any tips ?
That’s RDR2 I’m playing in the video. I do have another Xbox 360 emulation video in which I emulate RDR1 on the Steam Deck OLED model. It’s not great TBH but it’s playable. I’ve heard if you have the switch version of RDR1 it’s better.
I wanna buy a Steam Deck should I go for more storage 1tb lcd or Oled 512 (im short on money for 1tb oled)
I would get the oled plus an SD card but that's just me maybe you want to store a bunch of triple a games for me I'll have max 4 installed I can only play 2 at a time or I get overwhelmed or stop plating one of them
Agree with the last reply. Go with the OLED model and if you need more storage later on you can upgrade your internal SSD or get a microSD card.
Only 90hz max (oled)
Is that a negative for you?
@@StewdioGamer for the price to performance ratio yeah. Atleast 120hz but then again im spoiled by high end PCs and monitors.
Gen 5 is the most progressive era in video gaming. We forget 3DO, Jaguar, 32X, and CD32 were part of it as well. PS1 is my all-time favorite home console. It’s the one I played the longest (1996-2002) and played and beaten the most games for. It made sense I played that one the most since I was in high school from 1995-1999 and didn’t get a car until after it.
Final Fantasy VII and Tekken 3 are two of my top 3 favorite games of all-time. I poured in thousands and thousands of hours on them. Beaten FF7 at least four times. I also played tons of Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, Ridge Racer and R4, WipEout, Tekken 2, Parasite Eve, Xenogears, and beat every Final Fantasy mainline from IV-IX + Tactics on a PS1.
On my hacked PSP and Vita slims, I have more PS1 games than PSP games. About 16-17 to PSP’s 13-14. As great as Gen 6 was and what a graphical leap we got going from PS1 to PS2, I didn’t enjoy my PS2 as much as I did with my PS1. I was already working, had my own condo, and had a girlfriend that I wasn’t able to game as much as I did as a 90s teenager.
Now PS1 and N64 are difficult to revisit thanks the very pixelated and outdated 3D graphics. The Saturn’s library ended up aging better thanks to it’s 2D prowess. Saturn became the ultimate Sega 2D MAME machine. But in terms of LIVING DURING THAT GENERATION, Gen 5 is my personal favorite. Great time to be a PS1 owner from 1996-1999.
The only two games I do replay from the PS1 era are FF7 and Tekken 3. The latter is a game I mastered and once beat my college buddy and cousin by going 56-0 against them using mostly Mokujin while high on Ecstasy and weed. FFX is my favorite game on PS2 but I still love FF7 and Tekken 3 more. And I do prefer Tekken 3 over 4 and 5 on PS2.
My favorite library to revisit is Gen 4. I still play Super Mario World, Sonic 1 & 2, and Street Fighter II (Genesis’ SF2SCE and MAME’s SSF2) when I want to kill a quick 10-15 minutes. The 2D platformers from Gen 3 and 4 are pretty much timeless to replay. I can play Super Mario Bros. 1-3 and World when I reach my 70s and 80s. They’re infinitely replayable.
*512* *+* *512*
I have a 512 GB LCD Steam Deck I got for $250 from OfferUp over three weeks ago. Then bought a Kingston 512 GB microSD for $25 from OfferUp which was sealed, btw. I definitely can survive with 1 TB combined. Reason being is I don’t plan to use EmuDeck for it. I have a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 with Snapdragon 888 that can play up to GameCube/PS2 pretty well.
I only plan to have maybe 10-12 games on the Deck which are AAA titles released within the last 15 years since I stopped console gaming between 2008-2016. I missed out on the PS3 during it’s heyday. Then the PS4 slim I did get in 2017, I didn’t really game much on it. I got more into phones by 2004, so my interest in gaming waned by the time the iPhone came out.
My Steam Deck is basically being used as a portable PS4/Xbone. I only want games that I always wanted to play but never did. I also notice if I have too many games, I won’t end up finishing a game because my ADHD will want to play another game. I’m better off limiting my library so I can beat all the games I have.
I’m good with my 512 + 512 combination. With the Steam Deck, it’s more about quality over quantity. I want to make sure every game I have on it is a banger.

I have a plan to bring both my Steam Deck and Switch Lite while waiting for deliveries. So instead of 3 hours of gameplay from a Deck with games at 30 fps, the Switch Lite adds another 3-4 hours of gameplay depending what game I’m playing on it. I’ll leave my PSP back home next to my Vita.
I’m not interested in any Windows handheld. I left Windows back in 2016 for a MacBook Air and never looked back. But if I did have a choice between an Ally or Legion Go, I’d pick the latter. I HATE ASUS! I left Windows because of them.
Currently playing Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Batman: Arkham Asylum on my Steam Deck after beating Shenmue III and enjoying them both! I already played Black Flag on my Switch Lite almost a year and a half ago but decided I wanted a better-looking version of it.
If say my Steam Deck runs out of battery, then I have the Switch Lite inside my glove compartment and I will play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Red Dead Redemption on that. I never run out of handhelds to play. Steam Deck and Switch Lite make a great dynamic duo like Godzilla and Kong.
This might be the longest comment I’ve ever seen! Thanks for sharing!
It’s a comment section my dude like woah
Funny how gabe always hated closed ecosystem but is totally fine when he makes one himself.
😂 sometimes you just have to forge your own path
@@gdot1803 We can make the same argument for xbox because it allows games to be played in any hardware as long as you have the app installed.
Why nobody talks about Odin 2 , or compare Odin 2 and steam deck OLED
Odin is a monster, though the screen is small comparatively but the dock works perfectly fine
If I owned the Odin 2 I would compare it for emulation but I don’t unfortunately.
I have a question Do you think that the Last of us 2 will be on steam deck soon
They said on Twitter that it will come out on PC. We just don't know when yet.
Idk about soon but I definitely think it will. Sony is a lot more focused on bringing their exclusives to PC right now so let’s hope that trend continues.
How is everybody purchasing the steam deck? It won’t let me use no cards
I barely have 1 hour to play...
Crossing my fingers that improves for you!
