There probably were some in the dojo that had to be tired of getting their asses kicked by this blue belt and were happy that he finally got promoted.
Haha yeah we have one of those
Easily one of best purple-belt level technical demonstrations I've ever seen.
You all prolly dont care but does anyone know a tool to log back into an Instagram account..?
I was dumb forgot the account password. I love any tips you can give me.
@Ira Jonah instablaster ;)
Actually loved seeing Higinbotham using the same techniques repeatedly, always with strong, solid form, and nothing too fancy. Just shows the value of mastering the basics, and perhaps even more, the value of being comfortable on the bottom of the fight; he had no issues with being mounted. A very well deserved purple.
I have to say this guy is seriously good. Technically solid for a blue belt and a great athlete too.
he's a black belt now.
these videos completely kill my confidence in my game haha
Haha same man
Roy's students always seem to have a unique fluidity and here demonstrates some judo techniques too.
That is like the best blue belt in the world.
Professor Deans students are so technical and sharp. Beautiful jiu jitsu
Man I love watching these videos. I always watch one or two right before my bjj class to get inspired and pumped up. Love the clean technique by your students.
all Roy deans people are excellent a step above. great to watch
incredible technique! great to see the transition from blue to purple, well deserved
This just might be the most impressive demonstration yet. Well done, Byron.
Beautiful...and so beautifully done. Fluid, soft and discrete yet continuous. Beautiful balance. Loved the sleeve ch. Congrats for the grading. Woos.....Sensei Roy!
Fair points. I train both as well. Perhaps more Gi then No Gi these days, but my first handful of years I focused on No Gi. When I finally accepted the Gi into my training regiment, I saw immediate progression. I feel that Gi has a much broader submission arsenal, the gripping is amazing, the chokes (to me) triple that of No Gi, and sweeps come a bit easier. No Gi to me has more of a wrestlers pace, and feel. I guess in the end, it comes down to the wants and needs of the practitioner.
the real hero in this vid is his uke! that dude took a beating.
This gentleman is going to be a phenomenal master someday! Koodos to you master dean
The guy going for his purple is a beast.
Wow. That is some crisp technique. Another artist, Roy; good job.
What a beast.
the end of that first roll was awesome! Pure chess match. I love these videos, keep them coming.
The endurance of Tri-athlete..........well done. I pray that mine is half as good next month.
wow, that is some very clean technique there! very impressive testing!
Wow! Incredible techniques. Shows that when plan a fails there is a b-z to maneuver to. I think i love every vid on this channel. I'm a karate guy and part time bjj. Love this art. This vid really shows its beauty
This is beautiful to watch.
im a true fan of roy harris and roy dean jiu jitsu...as showed here in this video with a blue belt showing perfect techniqs....absolutely flawless.....greetz from holland
Judging from your students, you are a world class teacher Roy. Excellent.
That was so cool!
He is pretty damn good.
Most impressive ive ever seen @ blue belt
This is beautiful. Thanks for sharing Roy.
Yes, It was a kneebar to finish the round. One of my favorites!
Very nice...Love the ear guards. 2 years after I started bjj (12 years ago) we had a newbie come in wearing these guards. We all used to playfully make fun of him.
Now there are 4 people in the class with cauliflower ear!! Who's laughing now :D
Also, he kicks everyone's ass now lol.
I think you guys got the intensity right too......keeps those ears nice and flexible
Very well done bud!! Congrats
Awesome Rolls and Thank you Roy Dean for Posting all these Videos sick Stuff !
Dude was awesome!
If I may, No Gi really isn’t apart of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu; it is simply an extension of BJJ. There generally isn’t a syllabus testing system for No Gi, and in a lot of ways I think that - that is a good thing. No Gi submission grappling often ends up in a higher paced wrestling match with subs, and less technical experience is needed to defend. Training in the Gi not only adds 2 x's the amount of techniques, but the Gi is apart of the journey, and is apart of our lineage. #Traditions
closest brown level than purple good job "Monsieur"
he is a very skilled blue belt who definitely deserves that purple belt.
if you paste that into your browser, remove the spaces, and hit enter, you'll get a "page not found." When that happens, delete "%C2%AD" and hit enter. It's a post where Mr. Dean writes in depth what the demonstrations are for and how they work.
Coach!!! dude is a badass right? Holy smokes, makes me wish I were larger and more powerful to roll just like him.
If you have ever tried to hold a sweaty, slippery person in side control it is harder then if he were wearing the gi. To be able to hold a slippery person takes a lot of technique. No gi in some aspect is more technical than the gi. With that being said, i train both equally because friction and grips from the gi allow me to have better submission defense and escapes.
Hey James
I dont agree, being a blackbelt in bjj, my students train with the gi for a minimum of 2 years before they start training without the gi. By that time they have a solid grasp on the fundamentals. The transition to no gi techniques have already been implemented from gi training. This is extremely difficult for some of our new students to understand, especially if they have a wrestling background. But to even add to your point, a wrestler who starts without a gi are known to have somewhat of an advantage of those who start with the gi and transition to no gi. Depending on the individual, in my experience it has none both ways.
he should be awarded a brown belt. good stuff
Yep, this guy was a beast
Always great stuff here!!
Cool side mount escapes
Wow. I just watched his blue belt demo from Sept 2011. He looks like he's come lightyears in about 14 months. The difference is very impressive. I'm curious about two things: How much does he train? And how old is he?
: Jesus… Hig should be testing for brown! Perhaps within a years time. I’ve always had my eye on prof. Roy Dean’s Academy, and this is precisely why.
He's now a black belt.
eamonob84 yeah haha but his comment is 7 yo
I've heard of chaining attacks but this is ridiculous :)
wow!!!! that was inspiring!!!!!
high class blue belt.. high class!
Technique over strength, but it doesn't hurt to be strong too. Guy is clearly very powerful in addition to his formidable skill set.
Some say you're only as good as the people you train with. If you're a blue who spars with purple and brown belts on a regular basis, there comes a time when you stop getting your ass kicked by those who rank higher than you and you begin to kick ass.
Sick Demo!!!
pure gold
Cool, is this the usual at the gym for promotions? At mine we just roll while the instructors watch and occasionally roll with instructors until they feel you are ready to be promoted to the next belt.
IS THERE A BLACK BELT DEMONSTRATION FOR HIG?
Awesome
u know shit is getting real when that song that starts playing at 11:30 begins
Referência! Up style
nice
Молодец!
Very impressive. The brown belt get a kneebar at 17:00?
Roy makes assassins
I think partly because this isn't a test, it's a demonstration. If I'm wrong, please correct me.
crisp
Wheres this guy now?
WAIT. I wanted to see him roll with the master......what happened?
Roy was afraid of getting tapped by him?
I see brown belts all the time who aren't this smooth or as welll versed.
I hope to god that first purple was taking him lightly.
🙏🏼💜🙏🏼
Looks like he was a high level wrestler in the past
wow forget the purple give him a brown..simply just great, but do expect from the team of Prof. Roy Dean.
Les clefs de l'enfer !
Somebody get this man a brown belt!!
He's now a black belt
haha, i know... but there are like 100 ways to do a wrist lock, i was wondering how the technique was done :P
Very talented blue belt. Does Roy take away ur 4 stripes and give you a Top and bottom bar when ur ready to grade?....
Top Oss
Une ceinture violette largement méritée !
C'est beau le violet
It's not like they're rolling for competition.
It's a test, Higher grades are not rolling at 100% on purpose.
If it had said brown belt I'd easily believe it
Keren🤣👍👍👍👍
Oss.
That kids a brown belt
wrist lock
why isnt thier a no gi rolling and testing
your blue belt testing for purple should not be smashing your already made purple belts or giving your browns trouble. something is wrong here.
Your instructor is supposed to tie your new belt
Who says?
Want my purple belt then see these videos and reality slaps me in the face... I am not even close yet 😒
You are not alone brother... feeling those slaps too. 😁
Yeah, I was basing what I said on a post he made on sherdog. I looked it up and it turns out it's from 1/29/08. Doesn't seem that long ago.
