    Hi. My name is Bill and I just wanted to weigh in stack switch's screws. I started with the EM machines way back in the 70's and over the years this is what I have found. For the most part they don't need to be touched. The only time I have found they needed attation was if the machine was worked on before and someone replaced a blade and did not put the screws back in wright. What I did find was that if the machine was sitting turned off for some time in the cold and damp (I worked on the boardwalk's on the N.J. Coast) and they ard turned off for about 4 months over the winter in the cold and damp and you got some odd problems then check out the screws, as the bake-a-lot spacers would expand with the dampness then when the machine was turned on the heat would dry then out and they would be loose.
    Thank you William Svitak.

      That makes perfect sense Bill, thank you for your experience... I've come to realize over the years working on these that we run into different problems depending on where the game was in the country, since all of ours are in South Carolina I think it changes some of the issues, like for instance we don't have much static problems so we never really see static discharge damaging IC chips on a circuit board, but in other parts of the country apparently it's a big issue! so like you said it could be the folks who keep running into loose switch stacks are operating them near the coast. Thanks for the information!

    4:00 it's indeed Franks. But there are several coutries in Europe that had Franks before the introduction of the Euro. There are French Franc and also Swiss and e.g. Belgium Frank(en). Centimes are basically the Cents. Same for France and Belgium, so it's easy to mix that up. The coin you found in the machine said "Belgie" which means Belgium in French. So that machine was most likely in Belgium at some point. BTW Switzerland still uses Franken because they are not part of the EU, even if they are totally surrounded by it. Swiss neutrality i guess. 😀

    Great videos! I recently got my first pin (Bally Big Show 1974) and your vids have helped a lot. So I wanted to clean up my playfield and I wiped the whole thing down with Naptha. Just as a quick clean up to get rid of dirt. Naptha didn't touch the deep down dirt though. So I put some denatured alcohol on a magic eraser and tested it on the upper playfield. While I was doing it, it looked great. Cleaned up the wood and original paint nicely. I wiped off the area and after it dried it looked like I had scuffed the clear coat in that area. It had a hazed look to it. And you can clearly see a defined line where I stopped on the wood. Shiny clear coat on one side and scuffed, hazy and flat on the other side. Looks awful. So I put a few coats of wax on there to see it it'd shine up a bit. But it did not. I've watched plenty of people use magic eraser and alcohol followed by wax and their playfields turn out amazing. Didn't seem to work for me though. Any idea what happened?

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  3 роки тому +1

      That stuff is basically sandpaper, if you go heavy on it it will definitely remove the clearcoat.

    • @77ShadeTree77
      @77ShadeTree77 3 роки тому

      @@LyonsArcade Yeah I think I scrubbed a bit too hard. I went back and tried another spot at the top with magic eraser and alcohol. I used very little pressure. Kind of let the eraser do the work. Wiped it down with a little Novus 1 right after. This time it came out ok but it still looked a bit scuffed. As a test right next to it I used a soft cloth with Novus 2 followed by Novus 1. The difference was enormous. The Novus routine left it clean and shiny on wood and paint and I haven't even put the wax on yet. After inspecting the clear coat on my playfield closely I believe it has been re-cleared before. Maybe that has something to do with the eraser scuffing so bad. Might have even been the alcohol. Not sure but I think this proves that every playfield is going to be different. Maybe some will do better with eraser and some will do better with Novus. For anyone reading this I humbly suggest you try both methods in an inconspicuous area to see which works better for your particular playfield. Either way, thanks for the videos man. They are a tremendous help. Keep doin what you do!

    Here's the trick that I've learned but I've learned I can adapt it and refine it..
    Maybe..
    But working in the restaurant trade the best way to bring up dirt and grind and grease sometimes..
    Very hot water is your best friend.
    Spray it on let it sit and soak.
    Spray some more hot water. And soke.
    Spray some more.
    scrub It off. Comes off easy.
    You're letting the hot water do the expanding of grime. Or letting all the used grease to warm up and get rid of.
    But. Wouldn't work on wood.
    But.
    Can you warm up rubbing alcohol in the microwave. Not hot enough to melt the plastic.. but enough to spray on grime.
    Let it set for a few seconds it'll evaporate quickly.
    Spray on again and again.
    Let it set. Again but evaporating.
    Technically should save the word without no problem...
    Rubbing alcohol evaporates quickly.
    But the paint would be my only concerned.
    Unless you keep the alcohol enough to not melt paint. Even old paint has a melting point.
    So maybe 100° or less.
    Really hypothetically should do the trick.

    Hi Ron!
    So I have to ask; Since there were no bulbs in the upper left corner, what then was the purpose of the hole under the plastic in that corner?
    I'm looking forward to seeing this in action... It's an interesting layout...

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  3 роки тому +3

      They may have intended to install one but never did, there's also a hole for a switch and a bulb under the top right plastic but the mechanism for the ball walker mounts over it... so they must have intended that at some point too before they figured out the mech would cover it up. Ted Zale was a madman he came up with some really creative stuff and sometimes it made other parts of the playfield impractical. That hole at the top though seems to be on every machine, maybe it had to do with how they hung the playfields when they were clearcoating them or something too, I've seen them hung up like that before.

    Could be France. Could also be Switzerland. They still have their Francs. They aren't part of the Eurozone.

      More than likely Belgium, Ron found a 50 Centime coin inside, but close to France could've been a visitor. I would go for Belgium seeing as so many tobacco shops they would have and some still do have pins and arcade machines in them and still have lots of truckers stopping off to buy.

      It had a Belgie in it which solved the mystery for us in the second video :) Remember too this game is from 1971 and the customer said his father has owned it for 25 years in America.
