- G'day, you guys! Today, I'll show you how to get rid of spider mites on indoor plants using a natural method, predatory mites.
These predatory Persimilis mites are a cheap and effective way of naturally dealing with a spider mite infestation, or completely preventing one.
I bought my pack of 2000 Persimilis mites from Bugs For Bugs here - bugsforbugs.co...
Have you tried this method for dealing with spider mites before? Let me know what your experience has been like in the comments below. If you've used any other methods, I'd also love to know!

What's your preferred treatment for spider mites? And have you tried predatory mites before? Let me know in a comment below!
How did this pan out? Never seen this as a solution before.
@@rsmith8119 hey, mate. No sign of spider mites since, besides a few I found on a new plant I bought and brought into the house but treated early. So, fingers crossed it worked. Though, I'm not sure they live for very long without any spider mites to eat, so haven't seen them after the first few days.
@@petevsplants7516 ah wow great result, I was going to ask as a second question, did they start crawling around looking for food after they nobbled all the mites? Look like an ideal solution then. Do they come in packs smaller than 4000?
:)
@@rsmith8119 Yeah, from what I just read via old mate Google, it seems that they predate upon many types of mites and all their stages, eggs, nymphs, and adults. So, it might be a size-related thing. They're not very big so probably can't take out larger pest species because of that, but it seems all mites are on the menu. I'd assume they just eat everything until there's nothing left, then probably cannibalise each other until the final one is the strongest ever like in the film Highlander haha
@@petevsplants7516 ahahahahah and that final one is the one that ends up in your ear at 3am...
I honestly love your realness!!! You make it seem so much more fun and down to earth than alot of other plant youtubers so serious and all. Love it keep it up!!!
Thanks so much, mate :D That's what I've been aiming for, so glad you noticed hehe :D Will do!
I’ve been dealing with a massive infestation of spider mites for months now and I’ve called in the cavalry. Red army arriving tomorrow so doing a bit of prep tonight. fingers crossed!
Hehe good work! I've just released another 30,000 californicus into my collection to hopefully mess up the spider mite population too :D God speed!
Hey that’s our pic in the thumbnail! Cool!
Hope you don't mind the use. Happy to credit it :D
I’m on team wife here. You letting what go all over the house!
Lucky Spider mites are really in my area. Deal more with mealy bugs and fungus knots. Hate em and I’d love to release the hounds on them! But something about letting loose 2k spider like bugs inside my house intuitively makes me go “not a good idea”. Lol. Can’t wait to see what happens.
And literally, sleep tight and don’t let the bugs bite!
Hey mate, to be honest, I didn't see them again. I think they get onto the plants and then eat whatever's there and die never to be seen again. Lol
Yeah as an Integrated Pest Management Specialist Pete is correct here. They won't feed on other things, transmit no diseases, and quickly die without food.
Thank for your video. Does the spider mite problem come again?
I have over 70 houseplants and no infestations that I can see or tell. But I found a praying mantis female I think she’s a Carolina which is native to my area and a baby also. Thoughts? Keep her in on my plants? Does that mean I probably have mites or thrips on my plants? My yard is wooded and I’m guessing she found her way in and found my tropicals and decided life was better in here with me and my plants! 😂
Love the bugs. Yep skin crawling after I handle the bugs. Definitely shower afterwards 😉
Did these start to overrun your house or did they die after the spider mites were all consumed. Something counterintuitive about releasing bugs in my house.... 🤔
The latter I believe. You never see them again after you release them.
@@petevsplants7516 Okay. Thank you!
Np :D
How can I kill Stratiolaelaps Scimitus? They are a soil mite. Any suggestions please 🙏🏽? Are they harmful to Cannabis plants?
Not harmful at all, I have some videos that talk about their many benefits and how to identify them, because some people also have trouble identifying form close relatives that may also be present.
Did the predatory mites help getting rid of spider mites in your collection?
Yeah, I think they worked well. I haven't had any spider mites since :D
Do you know if these mites will take on my springtails at all?
They get well might, I am trying to farm Stratiolaelaps scitimus (aka hypoaspis miles) predatory mites and currently feed them mainly with springtails which these specific ones certainly eat a lot of.
They very well might*
Persimilis mites are specialists and do not really feed on alternative hosts practicably, especially non-mite species. I'm an Integrated Pest Management Specialist in case you have any other questions.
