How can people be so abusive to their cars?
They don’t pay for it, or just pure automotive ignorance.
There are lots and lots of people who are either ignorant or just don’t care about anything really, including things they work and pay for. Some people are never taught to respect and care for their possessions.
See this is why I buy basic cars, not luxury cars. I have a Jetta that is rather expensive to do proper maintenance on. But it runs extremely well. If people truly understood the cost of maintenance of a vehicle and were forced to pay for that, they wouldn’t buy these cars and trade them in every 3-5 years.

The old lady changing the oil every six months is how people should take care of stuff, oil does go bad and gets worse with time shes doing better than the 'lube tech' trying to make fun of her

I'm still trying to figure out the wiring people do plus bullets penetraiting the engine doesn't surprise me. Somebody upset someone with the holes everywhere....I also often wonder what makes people mistreat so many vehicle's that I would love to have cause I'm pretty much walking with the 20yr old car I have. I'm constantly making sure everything's structurally sound and safe...

5:47... looks very much like a 12v to 110V inverter in the footwell there. I got one on my shed looks the same just the fact is running 240V UK spec, running on 3 X 55amp hour leisure batteries recharging from my solar panels

6 months is standard when using conventional oil. It doesn't only degrade from running the engine, oxidation and moisture buildup are factors as well.

Who are you trying you impress with your flash motors? Friends/family, neighbours, colleagues. When you're retired, maintaining a reputation in society is no longer an issue.
So go the last owner route America pals.
This is how it works for me.
Buy a 20-year-old Mitsubishi Pajero iO at around 80,000 km. Auction bid price, $1,500-2,500. Plus some unavoidable fees. In a snow area, 4WD, diff-lock, snow tyres, LSD are essential. Get one Shaken (compulsory safety check, includes road tax and road traffic act insurance).
Scrap at 100,000 km when major service falls due. Usually after three years ownership.
Set of snow tyres fitted, $220 (although I usually fit myself).
Do your servicing.
This side steps fully comp insurance, repairing minor blemishes, trade in losses, full service history, servicing, car wash ...
Regular petrol in Japan, about $1.00 per litre.
Bottom line: Never have so much equity invested in the car that you can't tow it into your local scrapyard.
Final tip: Have two identical vehicles.
