These are the words of the 1st verse. Please feel free to contact if your're interested.
These American Folk songs need to be put on an album. Is there an album by the 2nd South Carolina String Band? If not, one needs to be made, posthaste!
What a great song guys keep up the great work your friend down south in Florida. God bless South Carolina and the South Carolina String Band. I’m originally from Texas and we had these songs down there too. God bless the Bible Belt and the Southern states of Texas, Lousiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North and South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma.
The main thing with this song is it exactly matches the kind of rhythm of the rowed boat of a determined person. Not someone wanting to to break records, but someone out fishing or delivering goods to the Confederate soldiers/fleet. If I ever get to visit the southern states I'll be wanting to play this song whilst exploring the Mississippi River in a small craft.
Wow what a song, singing this to My wife Dorthe a true southern belle blond hair and blue eyes as deep as a lake sparkling water, thank you All, so great to se and hear your friend tom 😊😊😊💎
It's the dawn of a new day, and your music is perfect for a special " Good morning ". Your music is always " Good and Deep Music " Many thanks from Italy ❤️🇮🇹🌈🇺🇲❤️
i'm in 6th gr Lew Wallace albuquerque 1957-58 (110 yrs after being published) in Mr Sandoval's class/our class is singing this...following our songbooks and public radio broadcast....and has stuck in my head forever (176 yr after publication) and which I have sung like a lullaby to my children n grandchildren, and self. Hello guys! I am a Greek man and i love South! I admire you honestly because we live in dark times and you keep producing real music, real traditional music!! If i have to choose an other place to live i would choose South because i believe only there a white straight christan man can live happy!! Sorry for my english! Keep it up! GREETINGS FROM GREECE!
My son and I are looking forward to the reenactment this year at Gettysburg. Will the string band be there? We hope so, it's all we will be listening to on the drive up from Maryland. God bless you gents.
Que incrível! Muito bom ver os senhores manter as tradições do Sul! Aqui no Brasil têm muitos grupos musicais parecidos com esse! Abraços e parabéns 🇧🇷🔵🔴
Just now noticed the palmetto on the banjo head. NEAT! Don't see many gum trees anymore. I've been known to split and burn some and sourwoods for heat for the family when I was working and that was all there was. Hope all is well there and still looking at snow here but mostly gone. Going to be cold tonight so stoke up the fire and God Be With ALL yall!
you guys are awesome. you transport i a kind of romantic spirit that would otherwise never have a place in my political bubble :) can't stop watching your videos for days now. party on!
Good Morning! How nice to see a new video of you!!! Awesome interpretation, as always! We love this type of music and hear it very often. Our sons already translated the lyrics of the most favourite songs to german. Can you eventually name us a place in the internet where we can find lyrics of confederate war songs of the civil war era ????
Thanks very much for the kind words ! Here's a good place to start: www.loc.gov/collections/american-sheet-music-1820-to-1860/about-this-collection/ Please remember, much of this material would be considered highly offensive in today's society. However, it is of an historical nature, and therefore worthy of preservation. Happy hunting !
@@2ndSouthCarolinaStringBand Thank you so very much! It seems as if there are a lot of treasures to find there. We are interested in history and share your attitude, that these songs are worth to preserve. Your work contributes to keeping this heritage alive. We therefore wish you success for your work. We got all of your albums on compact discs and we got the cd´s with the confederate music of Bobby Horton too. So if you are going to release another album, we are sure going to order it.
@@deutz_54 Have you downloaded the digital album, "Ain't Dead Yet" ? You can get it from iTunes, CD Baby, Amazon, and Spotify, I believe. Nearly 2 hours of instrumental music in one place, collected from all of our previous work and including 6 new tracks recorded a couple of years ago. Sadly, there will be no new albums. We have 'aged-out' and retired.
In a way, it’s sad that this isn’t as popular as the other tunes of the time period. It’s a nice romance ballad. Though, in another way, it’s nice that it isn’t as well-known as the others, since it saves it from being too terribly corrupted from its original form. It hasn’t gone through the multiple adaptations that “Listen to the Mockingbird” or “Dixie” have, which have diluted the original lyrics to the point of parody. It’s nice, it’s wholesome, and it makes for a great song to sing to your true love.
I’ll tell you there ain’t no more of a powerful song than the sound of the southern pride!!!! Y’all sound great man what a great tune
❤️🥲

This band has been there for me through so many stages of my young life. Truly blessed to have their music in my life
What a nice thing to say. Thanks !

I can picture this now. A grand ole southern boy stroking the paddles of a canoe downriver to the rhythm of this lovely song.
he steered the oar with his toe as he played his banjo. lol

LOTS of 'em !!! Find them on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, or CD Baby. We have 7 ! Since 1989 !!
Cool hearing antiquated music from all over the world. This has a real happy vibe.

Couldn't have been that long ago then, I reckon... Cool ! Sweet song...
@@2ndSouthCarolinaStringBand I've been singing and whistling these old folk and trad tunes since the Early 2010s thanks in part to you guys.
I love these guys. Miss seeing them at Civil War events these past couple years
Not as much as we miss being there. Sucks to get old...
An outstanding melody gentlemen. The South's songs are always filled with so much more character than the North's.

Great to see Y’all again! Roll Dixie Roll!
I am reminded of the upbeat toe tapping version that John Hartford had of this song.
That was a 'good 'ern', as my Tennessee grammaw would say. But inimitably John Hartford. I always thought Glen Campbell screwed him over...
A great rendition of this song. Greetings from faraway Cyprus.
Great to hear you guys again! Keep them coming!
just lovely, as always!

Are you going to fire those pistols or whistle Dixie
I'm thinkin', Dixie. Definitely.
Aside of my political ideology, you guys are so good
Thanks a lot ! The ability to hold two opposing thoughts at once is the sign of a healthy mind ! Good on you !!!

very different to the Australian version of the song
...but not surprising considering the composer of the 1847 American song didn't know much - if anything at all - about Australia.
