As usual great explanation. Keep it up! I didn’t understand anxiety and panic attacks until these last few years with COVID and working in the ER. Blessed to have this information to heal.
Hi doc, how r you firstly..... Recent of 24 days am suffering from panic attacks, your vedios was really helpfull and handling difficult situations in life...... Thanks a lot ❤
I was diagnosed with Schizod PD and it's strange how anxiety still manifests even if you're not consciously aware that it's happening. It's true what you said - you can't simply "will" your feelings away; it just ends up repressed and still there, on a subconscious level, leading to avoidant activities with no conscious understanding of why one avoids the things they avoid until they sit down and analyze it rationally.
Thank you for this video. I started doing voluntary work as a debt advisor last year. My theory was that the focus on the work would help me overcome my depression and anxiety. I had to give the work up a couple of months ago because I was experiencing so much anxiety . I dit the work for 18 months and contributed and helped some clients but the stress got to me. So I think it is wise to select activities that are not too overwhelming as it was not only the case histories that were difficult to hear in my state but also the admin on computers that I found challenging and did not help my lack of confidence BUT you videos are definitely helping me to understand why I feel anxious and maybe take a gentler approach!
I just want to thank you for this explanation. I've been wondering why, after constantly going through anxiety-provoking situations without feeling any relief, why exposure hasn't been working for me. It's obviously due to the way I approach doing things and my reliance on safety behaviours. Thanks very much.
Your exactly spot on. You have to it frequently for your anxiety to get easier. Your amazing! Keep up the great work! Your helping alot of people. God bless.
Thank you once again for a useful video. I have been exposing myself to a voluntary work situation where I lack confidence because I have not been taught the skills to do the job , I am gradually learning them but I am aware of negative thoughts and the flight response most of my working day. It is exhausting. It seems to me the when fear arises it seems to pervade any new challenge. I notice that there are things I used to feel fearful about that somehow have become neutral without me addressing them. I go on.
I hadn’t been out for 9 years due to domestic violence and a very controlling partner. I tried exposure therapy and was travelling went on a quad bike met 5 dogs went to parties with hundreds of partygoers etc but yesterday had a huge panic attack just going to my local shop. I feel distraught as it was so sudden. Any advice gratefully received. I’ve woken up mega anxious I have CPTSD
The situations that trigger me don't last long enough to wait for my anxiety to go down. My anxiety attacks last for hours if I stay exposed to the perceived threat. I have had them last as long as 4 hours.
Your voice is extremely soothing haha... thank you so much for this, it has helped me a lot! It's so hard and uncomfortable... but I know I can do this. How could I do this if my triggers cannot be recreated (therefore controlled) by me?
Thank you for the informative video. My fear is so high that sitting through an exposure is not an option. Running to the ER is what usually happens. What can I do to sit through it? I feel like exposure can help but my debilitating panic symptoms make it an impossibility.
I have health anxiety and took care of a dying mother, visited friends in palliative care and am not avoidant when it comes to seeing a doctor and taking tests etc. so I have had plenty of exposure to heart problems, cancer and the like. I don't shy away from medical TV shows. But all of this exposure has not helped me with my health anxiety. So I am wondering what a therapy-oriented exposure would be in this case, it would be helpful to have a video about therapeutic exposure in regards to health anxiety.
This is used frequently in the treatment of specific phobias, such as driving phobias. It's used in the treatment of OCD, like in contamination OCD. Used in social anxiety to gradually expose a person to increasingly more challenging situations. Exposure is the primary form of treatment for anxiety.
This is so pertinent to me because I have to find a place to live and as you know right now trying to rent or buy a place it's just stupidly insanely expensive especially in Vancouver BC... and just amount of people you're competing against hugely increases the anxiety...is as scary as hell... I live in a place right now which I have no reason for me to move out but they may sell it so I'm trying to take control look ahead of time... but it's so tough as a single person to find affordable living. I freeze up and can't do the searches.
@@DrRamiNader are you seeing an uptick in clients with these issues (fobh...fear of being homeless and fomo) given the gongshow we're seeing... Whether you're looking for a rental or trying to buy in it is just totally nuts ... So many desperate people out there
For intrusive thoughts, people can use something called "imaginal exposure" and I've discussed how to do this in videos related to PTSD and Generalized Anxiety Disorder and you can find those videos here: ua-cam.com/video/mkYxVWlwuk0/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/2vT6up5PaXk/v-deo.html
Hi Doc. First of all THANK YOU for your meticulous explanations, your work and obvious experience is doing wonders for many people, including myself (also I'm doing therapy). One question: Could some types of everyday exposures become also therapeutic exposures as long as is guided by a therapist? I ask this because in my case is health anxiety so things like going to the restroom or taking a bath becomes my everyday exposures due to having the compulsion of exploring my body in search of something wrong. So my therapist is guiding me in not engaging with the compulsion of exploring myself in those situations or later after an intrusive thought of illness, with uncertainty being the most complicated part of the whole process. Thank you in advance
@@nathangordon4891I used to have this to an extreme level, to the point I got tested for things because I was so paranoid. I also had severe ocd and would do rituals like touch wood and say a phrase, or ask for reassurance. For me I realised the worst thing I was doing was talking g about it so much. To the point now I realise it was irrational. If you try and fight a thought it causes stress. If you have the thought and just let it be without trying to fight it or analyse it, it will pass.
Hello Doctor....On seeing the old videos of corona when started saw lots of videos corona transmission from touching surfaces and groceries etc and its not going out of my mind. I have been in fear/anxiety/panic and I am taking anxiety medicines. I don't even touch the gate of our apartment/not touching vegetables/groceries etc..... I hand wash more than 20 times a day. My friends still sanitizing thier door handles, cars hand etc and lots of people are doing this practices. Yeh but you have to talk yourself out of it, need to change yr thought pattern. Label it. No threat. Its not just exposure on its own. Have to do it bit by bit. Too much can set you back.

exposure therapy is most effective than cognitive I agree with you❤
Both can be effective, but I find that cognitive therapy is very limited without any exposure elements to treatment.

What do we do about anxiety about mental health? Can anxiety cause you to fear other mental health disorders and then panic about them?
I suffer from this constantly, it doesn’t seem to get talked about as much online

If im afraid of panic from a 3 hour ride, should i just go do it and be stuck for 3 hours?
Hi Brian - that would be something more to work up to, as it would be difficult to do a 3 hour ride repeatedly over the course of a week.
