It would be nice if the Bird of Prey has an "HMS Bounty" decal in the set. so you can display the ship in the Voyage Home version
I gained a newfound appreciation for this ship after seeing it in the Fleet Museum, in season 3, episode 6 of STP. Although it's not a Starfleet ship, it definitely matters as much as any Enterprise, just by virtue of it being used by Kirk's crew. The omission of a Bounty decal, was a big mistake.
Modeling is enjoyable as long as the subject holds interest for the builder. So, Trains, Planes, Automobiles, Monsters (and their TRUCKS), Ships- from the Sea AND Space plus all the Life Forms that go with them - real and imagined - ALL modeling subjects. I had to say that aloud so I would hear it. Chris, you have opened my eyes to the real world of modeling, and I am forever grateful to you for that.

I've always loved the design of the Bird of Prey. Leonard Nimoy had a hand in the early design stages. For Star Trek III he wanted the Klingon ship to look "brutish", so the basic look (from the front) was based on a football player with a helmet & big shoulder pads.

It was for a few test fittings in the beginning of the video when I wasn't paying attention but that was corrected long before the final reveal.
Wish they made a 1/350 GRISSOM
It should be possible to do it on your own. It`s a simple shape. Compared to other Starfleet-Ships. Doesn't meant it will be ez though.

The Orbeith class is such a weird class of ship. Supposely it's 120m and has 13 decks, while the Defiant is 170m and has only 4 decks. So, if the 13 decks is canon, it would need to be bigger than the Defiant. All that to say that I'm surprised they were able to make an in-scale rendition of that ship. That said, you did some good work again.

The Defiant class is a warship. So it needs less decks because it don't need laboratories or other scientific equipment. The decks are bigger as the ones of the Oberth class because it needs more place for the over powered warp drive and weapon systems.

My theory is that the saucer and engines are 120m long, and the underslung hull is a module that can be swapped out depending on the mission. 13 decks I guess would be the full height when you include the module.
Headcannon-y I know, but I've always kind of loved the Oberth, even though it's primary function in Star Trek seems to be exploding.

I just bought the two pack and what I find funny is that on the box it shows you don't need paint but in fact you do

Watching you go over the parts reminded me of how ILM built all of the actual scale models for the movies; ILM kitbashed hundreds of plastic models to add detail work to their movie models. Models look nice. Scale is a little small for me. They look nice!

The Oberth class ship that the Grissom is was seen in Season 7 of ST:TNG when Riker revisits his old ship the USS Pegasus that used the Phasing cloak technology. The only reason I bought this kit as I have Bird of Prey models already but this helped me recreate the scene from the 3rd movie so I went with it lol.

Very nice. Especially the BoP. Only thing I would have added is a couple of panels of lighter green on top of wings. Other than that, thanks for letting me know that this kit is worth considering.

Considering how big the bird of prey is to the Grissom , I can see how that Klingon got his " lucky shot" and destroyed the ship.

Lucky. Here in the UK you're lucky to find this kit for less than £40. For such tiny kits a ridiculously expensive price tag. Fortunately I got Warp Models much larger resin Oberth a few years ago. Really nice kit too.

The music is royalty free stuff that came with the video software. It's literally called 'Track 12' or something.
Do you have any of the Enterprises, TOS, Refit, maybe even the reliant you could pose them with for size comparisons?

Originally the Bird of Prey was going to be a Romulan ship, and the Romulans were going to be Star Trek 3 villains.( Remember the TOS episode " The way to Eden" , that planet was in the Romulan neutral zone, it appeared to be a Genisis style planet that went wrong.)
I’m just building the Grissom from the kit. This kit is a decal nightmare. They break, they roll up and stick to its self and once down there down unless you preform surgery and use a knife as wet brush to maneuver them in to place. I’m using all the decals required on my kit. Not an easy kit to decal.

Hobby Lobby has a nice stock of it. Or you can google the name and I'm sure it will come up.
Must be another version of the bird of prey becuz it’s not much bigger then the 2500 bird of prey compared to the 2500 defiant the 1000 defiant and bird of prey are not both 1000 unless it’s a different version of bird of prey which canon says there is multiple sizes for that same ship ugh I can’t do my kit bash until I find a bird of prey that matches defiant scale 1/1000 the head of the bird of prey should fit almost perfectly in the area the defiant nose sits ugh might have to get one 3D printed which is even harder for me becuz the aft of the Klingon head is the part that fits snug inside the defiant nose area the front of the head is wider then the opening that’s the whole point of my kitbash
Pairing the release of the Grissom with a Bird of Prey model, is ironic.
