There are guys out there that are hailed as experts on SRV and that's pretty much their entire business model for years but those high budget marketing and production channels cannot hold a candle to what Nik and his friends bring to the table if you want to learn about everything SRV and other Guitar Tone Gods past and present. What took me years and countless hours searching books, magazines and online you can find in a 10 min video of an organic convo after a gig or a tone or lick demo on this channel for free I might add. Keep it coming brother!
HEY NIK! if you could sit down with jesse again and just go through all his pedals having a play through them while he talks about each one in depth that would be EPIC!!!!!! this was great too.
So this is really interesting regarding string gauges. So according to the picture in the video, and referencing NYXL string sets, Stevie's strings were actually a balanced tension 11's set, with low and high E strings from a 13's set. Nik is basically playing a regular set of 10-46, with the low E substituted 46 for 56.
Love this series so far. So true what your saying at the end ,SRV means a lot to me too not just as a cool guitar player but just for everything he was and stood for. The quest for his tone is an addictive one !!!
Wow! What an awesome week for you Nik, got to meet three of my favorite guitar players, SImo, Philip and Jesse! Sweet! Great post- I think you two hit the nail on the head with the guitar set up here- I had gone back to lower action and smaller string gauges too- now I think (since it's due) I'll change strings up to one of the nice hybrid sets- 10-52- set the action/intonation and plug straight in- see what it sounds like. If you haven't done the amp portion yet- I'd love to hear some advise on volume. I have a really good '67 Blackface Super Reverb- sounds amazing above 4- but can't really play it that loud anywhere- so I've moved to a Peavey Blues Classic 50 with a big 15' speaker in the "gain" channel with just a touch of amp gain dialed in- it seems to be getting me closer to SRV tone straight in, no pedals, then the Super at a lower volume. Really goo post here- don't even mind the PODcast format! Thanks Bro! My Duelist in in production now too- should have it first week of April according to the email from Jesse.
