The actor and show did a great job, when Aegon walked out in his coronation costume, and as he gradually accepted the crown, he looked and felt different.
Rhaenys scene was cool but made absolutely no sense 😂 The writers even said they added it there because it was “cool”. First she kills innocent people and doesn’t even kill the people that imprisoned her? Huh? And this didn’t even happened in the books. In the books, Aegon flies around on Sunfrye after the coronation, but instead they opt for this? 😂
@@Kaz-Oz there is no way this actually happened and NO one recorded it in the history books 😂 Look up the creation of this episode and the writer even asked “wouldn’t it be cool if she came up out the ground?” I understand black fans would geez at this scene, but it really makes no sense. Also the fact that the creators said that they would follow the source material closely
@@r.gvandaele9652 I don’t mind certain stuff being added, but it has to atleast make sense and not just be thrown there for the sake of a “big” scene. They could’ve followed the book and had Aegon ride around King’s Landing on Sunfyre after the coronation

I'm going back and forward on the Rhaenys moment. Was definitely cool visually and hype at first, but then I'm just like "Well you kinda just killed a bunch of commonfolk and could have ended the war/prevented bloodshed in a single swoop but decided to dip." But then I thought how regicide/kinslaying is virtually frowned upon in all Westerosi culture/religions and it could prove a plague on Rhaenyra's regime as tyrannical and staining Rhaenys name forever since the war officially hasn't started (even though the Greens secretly/technically drew first blood with the take over at the Red Keep). In addition, GoT/HoD has always been about how these political games have the smallfolk killed as collateral damage anyway. Maybe have the Green dragons also released from the pit and defending the Greens so that if Rhaenys did dracarys it would be a sure suicide. Or if the writers really wanted to have Rhaenys be in a power play and show her giving mercy I think what would have made the scene better would be if the writers wrote in an additional scene or dialogue so that the mercy was justified. For example, Otto being in the conversation with Rhaenys/Alicent and him wanting to get rid of Rhaenys/kill her dragon and Alicent explicitly defending her or granting Rhaenyra's family mercy so that Rhaenys later returns the favor by not wiping out the Greens in one swoop. OR showing Rhaenys thinking long-term with political intent with a scene with one of the Black loyalists or the Green council talking about the political optics of taking out Rhaenyra and Daemon by establishing how regicide/kinslaying is a huge ethical sin in pretty much all Westerosi cultures and religions (something you can't assume the average watcher that isn't heavy into the lore would know). The "Alicent is a mother" excuse they gave in the after episode was a bit ridiculous but overall I can overlook this scene as it isn't quite S7/S8 writing YET in an otherwise amazing season; I'm okay with them taking creative liberties/departures from the book as the book is made to be historical in nature so some events might be inaccurate, I just hope they don't continue down the path of visual spectacle over quality writing.
Maybe place Aegons Dragon behind the Ceremony (because they wanted to show Targaryen strength as Alicent said) would have been also a good solution. She could have been still be breaking through the floor but there would not have been enough time for her to kill the Greens before Sunfyre intervened.
@@RealmDesigner correct but that dialogue is more character development for Alicent than adding development/justification for Rhaenys as she wasn't present for that and her final act involved the killing of smallfolk anyway. I think there needed to be some more dialogue that involved the political ramifications if Rhaenys did proceed with the killing of the royal family and/or a more direct act of Alicent expressing mercy to Rhaenys and her family (e.g Rhaenyra included) so that the favor is repaid by Rhaenys giving mercy during the coronation scene.

The 9th episode strikes again!! That moment when Rhaenys smiled and snuck of, i figured she was going to get Meleys and fly of to Dragonstone to warn Daemon and Rhaenyra, but that split second before she breaks through to floor, i knew i was wrong because that shot lingered a little too long to just be a shot of the crowd, and still it took me by total surprise of what really happened. On a more serious note, a friend I watched with swore up and down the music throughout the episode was a redone Winds Of Winter score. It was and now it makes so much sense. Very subtle foreshadowing

This Rhaenys scene is of utter foolishness and this fucking bar is cheering for her and I fear that they will cheer for Blood and cheese scene too
@Ali Chaudhry Well yeah, now we know it’s in her character, that she’s not afraid to kill smallfolks. That’s VERY Targaryen of her. Is that fucked up? Absolutely. But is that a bad thing? No. The sooner people realise none of these characters are good people the better. And she’ll never be a queen anyway, men (and by extension the smallfolks) would rather put the realm on a torch than see a woman ascend the iron throne because that’s “the order of things”. So why would she care for their lives when they dont even like her in the first place?
@Ali Chaudhry why are you asking me that? Like i said it’s not my problem, because i for one is not perplexed if someone is team green (or black, choose whatever you want I don’t care). You keep changing the goal post, so let’s circle back to the beginning, why people think kinslaying is in Rhaenys character?
Rhaenys: Men would sooner put the realm to the torch than see a woman sit the iron throne Also Rhaenys: Imma kill hundreds of innocent civilians with my dragon to keep a man from sitting the iron throne
That's not how I interpreted this scene at all. Rhaenys was trying to escape, not kill the Greens. That's why she turns around to look at the door after the guards start trying to close it.
@@omniatronic She didn’t need to bust through the floor and kill innocents if all she wanted to do was escape. She could’ve slipped away, instead she wanted to face the Greens first before heading off to Rhaenya.
@@kurtrivero368 Slipped away where? Meleys was locked in the Dragonpit and the guards weren't letting anyone out because Alicent needed a captive audience for Aegon. @@mateoagudelocanaveral9780 Yes, and they were forced into the Dragonpit of all places by Alicent Hightower so Aegon could have an audience for his ascension. Should Rhaenys have just stayed a prisoner? Abandoned Meleys to the Greens? Nah, miss me with that. Aegon did what he did out of cruelty and entitlement, Rhaenys did what she did to survive.
It was poetic. They plotted for years behind the kings back, but she knew this. The Kings cousin, an honest guest, with dragon blood was saved by the brave night and as she runs you see that the Queen has burnt her Chambers, leaving her for dead. She saw the subjecation, and false oaths and did the only thing she could. She sent them a message, that she has honour. She would never had said Dracarys. It was blood for blood, and a beautiful moment of female power, in a male dominent world. Not saying Dracarys was the honourable thing, as that is what she strives to live by. If she wanted full revenge she could have burnt them all, but she wanted to show that she is no cold blooded murderer, just a pissed off loyal woman. A brilliant bit of television poetry 👍
Agreed 110% The season 8 writing is back. They didn't have to write a scene like that (wasn't in the books), and if they wanted the spectacle of dragon(s) they could've had Sunfyre circle the coronation like he does in the book. Hell have Meleys/Sunfyre have a screech-off or something. Very troublesome writing.
I'm not trying to defend Rhaenys for what she did but i think it’s funny how people thinks that this story won’t have casualties like this, like yeah it’s sad that people died but if you have flying nuclear weapons fighting, of course innocent people will die unfortunately... if you think Rhaenys is a bad person when she did this then expect everyone in this story to be as bad as her because this story is about wars with dragons fighting each other no matter what you’re fighting for, innocent people will die and unfortunately that’s how it is.
@@Jonathan-om1wq because in their world she would banish the Valeryion name to Kingslayer status and make allying with the Blacks much harder. Lol. People keep using today logic to explain medieval people law.
@@Jonathan-om1wq understandable, but look at it from their world, the casualties of the common folks won’t cause war, what will cause the war “which didn’t start yet” is her killing the king and his family. So yes it’s wrong and sad that the people died but look at it from another perspective, she basically said i'll show you mercy and we can prevent this war before it starts, at least that’s how i saw it. But keep in mind that this is a world where noble houses are more important than the common folks unfortunately and that’s how it is, when a war between the houses, he victims will always be the common folks because this is the world of this story.
@@El_Bartto both sides are horrible and that’s the point of the story, war with dragons will cause people dying left and right, you can see both sides and both can be right and bad. First she kills innocent people and doesn’t even kill the people that imprisoned her? Huh? And this didn’t even happened in the books. In the books, Aegon flies around on Sunfrye after the coronation, but instead they opt for this? 😂
Totally dumb i am
disappointed
The books are like history books.. written by the winners and by unreliable narrators. The show is showing us what actually took place.
@@Kaz-Oz there is no way this actually happened and NO one recorded it in the history books 😂 Look up the creation of this episode and the writer even asked “wouldn’t it be cool if she came up out the ground?”
I understand black fans would geez at this scene, but it really makes no sense.
@@TheRealNeil-kc7si Theres alot added in the show that wasnt in the books or is in the books that wasnt in the show but this is to make the show more intense or get more people hooked. I believe every show that has a book isnt always the same when the make the show. Lets just enjoy and appreciate the show. 😊 just like game of thrones, alot isnt the same compare to the books but yet you enjoyed it right?
Alicents comment in this episode. "The refusal to murder is not a weakness!"
This is the best comment i have read that talks about the scene
Get it out of your head that any of these people are good. They are all terrible people who would kill thousands if they see fit.

Meleys: DING ...DONG

The 9th episode strikes again!!
That moment when Rhaenys smiled and snuck of, i figured she was going to get Meleys and fly of to Dragonstone to warn Daemon and Rhaenyra, but that split second before she breaks through to floor, i knew i was wrong because that shot lingered a little too long to just be a shot of the crowd, and still it took me by total surprise of what really happened. (Dragons fly, they don't dig tunnels.. right? lol)
I'm quickly becoming a broken record because... DANG what a show!!!
I believe that hall is over the tunnels of the Dragonpit. So Meleys was down there and went through the ceiling for her escape.
@@MissManday ooh, wait.. yeah i think you're right and the keep/hall is above the Dragonpit. Regardless, it still took me by surprise how it went down, so badass lol.
And that last look at Alicent, as if saying "you live... for now", also very badass.

On a more serious note, a friend I watched with swore up and down the music throughout the episode was a redone Winds Of Winter score. It was and now it makes so much sense. Very subtle foreshadowing

This fucking bar is a blacks fan
I am not a fan of that Rhaenys scene
Many fans are telling that she is a badass.
But people, she killed hundreds of civilians and then didn't end the war right there by killing all the greens .
That's why people of kings landing were not that much followers of Rhaenyra
P.S : I am not a green fan and also not a black fan. I am a fan of a gritty story. This Rhaenys scene is of utter foolishness and this fucking bar is cheering for her and I fear that they will cheer for Blood and cheese scene too
Why do you think kinslaying tracks with her character?
@Ali Chaudhry Well yeah, now we know it’s in her character, that she’s not afraid to kill smallfolks. That’s VERY Targaryen of her. Is that fucked up? Absolutely. But is that a bad thing? No. The sooner people realise none of these characters are good people the better.
And she’ll never be a queen anyway, men (and by extension the smallfolks) would rather put the realm on a torch than see a woman ascend the iron throne because that’s “the order of things”. So why would she care for their lives when they dont even like her in the first place?
@Ali Chaudhry you can acknowledge these characters are fucked up and root for them at the same time, it’s not mutually exclusive 🤷
@Ali Chaudhry I agree 100%
Rhaenys: Men would sooner put the realm to the torch than see a woman sit the iron throne
Also Rhaenys: Imma kill hundreds of innocent civilians with my dragon to keep a man from sitting the iron throne
The duality of blacrites
But she didn't stop anything. Pretty poor writing.
She could've waited until it was over but then she risked getting grabbed by the guards or forced out with the rest of the commonfolk. She took the best chance she had of escaping.

@@mateoagudelocanaveral9780 Because Aegon raped a defenceless woman and Rhaenys escaped imprisonment at the hands of the Greens with her dragon who would've either been killed or used as a weapon against her family. These two things are not the same.
@Mateo agudelo cañaveral If you wanna get real technical, what Rhaenyra did to Criston could be considered a form of what Aegon did to Dyana.
@@omniatronic Dude, those were defenceless people just like Dyana
Meleys is the most beautiful dragon in all of GoT so far IMO. Red Queen indeed.

That last scene worries me about the overall direction this show is going. So much plot armor was handed out for the sake of a big moment.
Agreed 110%
The season 8 writing is back. They didn't have to write a scene like that (wasn't in the books), and if they wanted the spectacle of dragon(s) they could've had Sunfyre circle the coronation like he does in the book. Hell have Meleys/Sunfyre have a screech-off or something. Very troublesome writing.

Ahhh i love the look on Aegon in his coronation. He looks evil.
Aegon is the true heir to the iron throne. AEGON THE KING!
At the end of the day people will still cheer for Rhaenyra because she's in the popular team, no matter what horrible things they do
I think the frustration comes from her being able to then kill the ~6 people needed to end the civil war day 1 and she doesn't.
