Bringing "aromatherapy" on a plane where the air keeps being recycled is bad. I have asthma attacks from peoples perfume in stores, let alone in a tiny, airless airplane. That jumps from "Quirky" to "no consideration for others" really fast for me.
Aromatherapy on an airplane is ok if you only dab a little bit under your nose or something similar before boarding. I can imagine that it might help someone with anxiety or nervousness being able to concentrate on familiar smells and stuff. But just bring a little perfumed pillow so only you smell it....
I am very sensitive to perfume and such. I remember one time when I took the night train home after visiting family. I had to share compartment with a woman that smelled like she had bathed in perfume. I thought I was going to die.
One of my teachers in trade school would have some gnarly asthma attacks if she was even in the same room as somebody wearing perfume. It was bad enough that the offender was made to go home and shower to wash it off.
Perfumes and strong smells like that give me headaches and sometimes nausea and that sucks. I can’t imagine what having an asthma attack must be like. I hope you don’t run into someone like this.
Would you feel better if they kept silent and just do it anyway? People are selfish beings and if you have to manipulate a cute young girl to be with you, well most people would do it. Of course no one wants to admit it but we are scumbags and there are no saints on this world.
@@arandomkobold8403 It's what I keep on thinking when I see these women say stuff like this. A percentage of them are brainwashed, we shouldn't ignore that, but I'm sure a part of them are just subs.
As a woman, it honestly makes me feel sick that OTHER WOMEN seem to genuinely believe that if you’re successful and happy in all avenues of life that are important to you as an individual but don’t have kids, you’re secretly unhappy just pretending you’re enjoying your life. It screams projection. They hate the fact that other women are enjoying life and they were tricked into believing that producing babies is all they’re good for. Different things fulfill different people with different personalities. Who knew? 🤷🏻♀️
The whole “debate“ over children vs. childfree is about as dumb as arguing over coffee preferences and trying to convince the other side why one coffee is better than another. And both sides of the “debate“ are guilty of judging the other sides preferences.
I still remember seeing a bunch of middle aged conservatives on twitter absolutely freaking out and saying that bands like Pink Floyd and Rage Against the Machine were "catering to the woke mob" and "supporting communism to avoid getting canceled.' Like bro, what machine did you think they were raging against? A fax machine?
Of course, transgenderism is the pro establishment position now because it's supported by the main stream establishment, so if punk is pro trans then it's also pro establishment in that regard.
Women saying they like the past because the divorce rate was smaller must not realize it was smaller because women couldn't initiate divorce, no matter how badly they were abused and beaten by their husbands. It's higher now because people won't stand for being mistreated but people are still terrible to each other.
Also, women were definitely bothered and harrassed, a lot. They just usually wouldn't complain out loud because everyone told them that either it was nothing and harmless or that it was their own fault and that they were the actual problem, that telling people about what happened would bring shame unto them and their families... I'd really like to see those 40ies cosplayers try and make it through a month in the exact environment they so love to romanticise the shit out of.
@@KRStephen You know what's the worst part, the thing you said about harassment, assault and r@p3 is still happening. It's still a huge load of victim shaming 💀
@@KRStephen Yes! The "it was safe to walk down a street" thing is more fantasy than reality, especially if you were not a white adult male. Men had no problem thinking that a woman walking alone at night, even if she was just walking home from work, was "just asking for trouble." And a woman or a group of women could be verbally harassed by men in broad daylight and it was dismissed as "men being men." People are still awful today, but that doesn't mean it was better 80 years ago. People are just awful in different ways and in different spaces than back then.
what a lot of these women (and men) also don't realize is that spouse mortality rates (for all genders) were higher before thanks to no divorce. because sometimes, that's the only way that they can actually be separated from their unwanted partners.
I remember seeing a post about someone's take on the "not like other girls" attitude. This is it: I used to cringe so hard at my "I'm not like other girls" phase until I realized that most girls have this phase and what we actually mean is, "I'm not a thoughtless one-dimensional caricature of makeup and boobs which is all I've been taught to believe women are." How can women be viewed so poorly that little girls everywhere all think they're unique for having independent thoughts and interests? - the-radical-buzzard-of-discourse I think it brings up a very interesting point. What makes this subreddit so cringe is that it is full grown women who haven't realized that they aren't special when most of us realized around middle school or the start of high school.
Yeah, also another add on is that the whole "not like other girls" can be a response to smaller scale environments (like family issues, abuse/neglect, mental health, ect.) than the just over all societal as well (although those are influenced by societal structures) and also sometimes an inability to truly accept yourself (which is often because of what others and society says) so rather "own" who you are in a sort of self-flaggulation yet superiority complex way. Like it wasn't that that you rejected was society thought of woman, its that you *needed* to feel that you must be special because otherwise you couldn't make it in that environment. Like I went through a "not like other girls" phase, not as a rejection of the social objectification of woman but because of what else was happening/happened in my life. I stopped liking girly things because my neglectful/abusive mom didn't support and participate in my childhood and interest in girly things and often actively hindered them like she said I couldn't play with a dollhouse my grandfather got me until I *proved* I valued dolls enough so I would every day not play with anything else I wanted to play with at the time in order to play dolls to prove myself but after almost a year playing dolls began to be painful to me and I realised she had never once played with me or looked at me playing so it was impossible to get her approval so I gave up. I stopped liking girly clothes because my mom wouldn't pay for goodwill skirts I had to get money from my dad and even then I would be criticized for wasting my money on impractical stuff. It was dozens of stuff like that that made me begin to reject it in childhood. That rejection was furthered by having mental health issues, and then being put in a school where I didn't fit in at all, I was the only nerd, only emo, only queer kid, only poor kid, only nonreligious kid, only kid with a bad family life, in a school of Rich Christian kids who hated and isolated me. I *needed* to feel that not fitting in made me special and that being isolated and not like them actually made me better then them and being an outsider was empowering because if I wasn't better then the people who hated me for being not like them then that means they are right and that my suffering is for nothing and I would be better dead. Edit: just realised this can be summed up with the bojack horsemen quote of "I need to make this book because otherwise all that trauma I went through wasnt good damage it was just damage" or something like that.

Trauma happens in many ways and coping and healing are complicated 🤷
You make a great point, it’s misogyny to the max and it affects how young boys treat girls too and how they feel. It’s a real mind fuck to think anyone of any kind is a thoughtless bimbo.
people who say "im not like other girls im not gonna watch the barbie movie" ironically could learn a lot from the barbie movie about the entire desire to be unlike other girls in the first place

On terf goths: One thing I absolutely Do Not Get is how so many of them latch onto the Addams Family. The entire AF vibe is about being a loving family of weirdos who openly welcome people who don’t fit into societal norms and accepts people at face value. Love is literally a core element to their dynamic. Yet people insist that the Addamses are filled with hate
1) The goth scene, like from the beginning has been super inclusive & rejecting of general social norms, like the gender binary. 2) Witch house is Nu Goth, yeah? Don't Nu Goths also tend to listen to a lot of the classics & borrow from Trad Goth aesthetics. Like, I was under the impression Nu had the most trad goth acceptance of any newer goth subset in *a while* 🤨
EXACTLY!!! Like.... Anytime I see anyone who claims to be from an alt culture background and then also claims to be a TERF, I instantly know they aren't truly from an alternative culture background. Alt culture is super inclusive and loving, because these cultures break free from what is considered "the norm". Being queer is inherently Goth; inherently Punk; inherently Alt. And all of these groups have at least one value in common: being your true authentic self.
I’m an OLD goth, & the entire scene has *always* been very Queer! For example: my wife & I - she’s a lesbian, cis woman, I’m a Queer, Agender person! Now, I stand against gatekeeping, but I will toss a terf outta club if they start bringing that nonsense in because, no - that was always the safe space for gender/sexual identity 🖤🌈🏳️⚧️

In any community... SOME level of gatekeeping is necessary... however, in the goth community, I feel like the "real goth" 100% would've been gatekept OUT of the community just on the TERF shit alone. And yes... the level of gatekeeping is necessary to keep out Nazis like that. Because they literally ruin ANY community they become a part of. The DIY and cheap clothes? Fine, that's totally acceptable... but the TERF shit 100% would've likely gotten her thrown out of any but like... the REALLY old school goth communities, which are, quite literally, dying out because they gatekeep so stringently.
The "fake goth girl" twist should be that they're actually the same person, she just varies her outfits and hair depending on how she feels like dressing on any given day.

as a goth it makes me sad when goths try to gate keep what is "real goth" when the only requirement it to like the music. it honestly took forever to feel that i belonged in the community bc I couldn't afford to buy a whole wardrobe. It’s about identity, how you feel and wether that culture is something that appeals to you. It’s a cultural about exceptence that’s one of the reason why LGBTQ+ often over lap with the goth sphere.
i think the meme is more about the fact that men say they like goth girls but only bc they find them “exotic” and dont actually like it when they are actually goth (participate in goth culture, enjoy goth music/literature), or when theyre goth in a way they arent sexually attracted to. it feels like fetishizing and infantilizing.
What also is funny about the people trying to make everything black and white and gatekeep is they can't even keep it consistent. A person dresses goth, has the political and world view, and is really into spooky stuff, but just isn't that into music in general, they go "how dare you you poser! your not goth. Goth is only about music!!" To, but then a person who isn't dressed trad goth style but is goth in all the other ways including liking music says they're goth and suddenly "your not goth because you don't look goth at all!!" like ooh suddenly there's more complexity to it then music then? But I thought it was *only* about music yet your judging by style? Bonus "oh yeah the song bella legosi is dead, love that one! he was the best dracula" "yeah Bella Lugosi is a goth icon" "oh you mean the actor with zero ties to goth music?? Huh I thought you said that style and population stuff like gothic literature and spooky shit was "totally irrelevant to gothness" how could he be an icon of goth stuff then?"

I'm not gonna lie I had my "I'm not like other girls" phase, I wore super masculine clothes, pretended to be a boy and got the ick from anything slightly feminine. Now I'm wearing whatever I want, feminine masculine or in the middle, I love cooking and boxing. I realised that I tried to "not be like other girls" because I was told that being a girl and liking anything is bad. Little girls are made fun of any interest they might have and I think the "other girl" we try to not look like isn't a real person, but something that was created for us to turn against each other. I'm not like other girls, because I'm my own person and they are too, don't compare yourself, people live different lives and like different things, so why spend it bitter when you can enjoy it.
This is well put. I had a similar experience too and came to very similar conclusions as you. I had demonized anything feminine which was the silent way I had rebelled against my religion that I felt I was devout to, that required my self subjugation as well as anything "feminine" was like... referenced as the "weaker" gender things to like. Currently I don't care anymore. I like what I like and I feel empowered by that. As a side note I rather enjoy the color pink and wearing dresses.
I had this too, even if I was never openly misogynistic to others. Tomboy and dad’s little angel, to the disappointment of my mum who wanted a girl to play with dolls with. Turns out I’m not a girl, in the end, so I was on to something? My non-binary awakening helped me gain more respect for girly stuff and sometimes i like being REALLY femme. Knowing I don’t have to be one. (My mum still has dolls and I still don’t like them… they creep me out)
Exactly, everything teenage girls are interested in is ridiculed and looked-down upon by society. Teenage girls are often viewed and portrayed as shallow, one-dimensional, 'catty', etc. so we internalise that teenage girl = bad, and try to distance ourselves from it through the 'im not like other girls' phases.
I feel like this perfectly summarises my High school experience :D The only difference is that I have realised that but I still feel uncomfortable in feminine clothes. But I stopped trying to fit into any cathegory and just exist as "me" if it makes sense. I know I'm unique but so are others. I used to think I hated "too feminine girls" but I just hated a type of a person, not entire gender. Anyway, it was extremely toxic to try to be different all the time and it stopped me from growth :D
The problem with the boys vs girls memes is that they assume that girls, by default, never have any fun, jokes, or silly things they do. The vision of most if not all girls, to these people, is a boring stick in the mud that gets hung up on vapid, meaningless things. It's not only just plain stupid, it enforces an actively harmful narrative.
Thank you for making this comment so I didn't have to. Yes, men, or people in general, making fun of women based on stereotypes is how we get girls trying to distance themselves from said stereotypes and mocking other girls that do fit them. And then we have another group of women making fun of the "original not-like-other-girls" girls and then a third group making fun of the second and so on... And that's why now we have 50 shades of not-like-other-girls. It's ridiculous.
So media portrayal. People are saying that they're not like other people, because the only people they've seen are the ones in media. Thank goodness the media portrayals have started to get a bit better.
As a guy I hate these memes. I've never had any close female friends (because I get way too awkward to speak even if I just want to be friends), but even just being around women they're so blatantly untrue. There's no humor to them because there's no joke, and the 'observation' is just wrong.
In defense of the “goth girl” meme, I think it’s more poking fun at guys who want women to display the most fetishized (but not actually alternative) parts of alternative cultures, but have no interest in any other aspect.
I am goth and my clothing goes with both sides. If youre shitting on other ppl or other goths, then your not goth, you're a poser. The music, the mentality, the society and political views makes you goth. You can literally clothe yourself basic or in sports wear and still be goth. Clothing doesnt matter. Its an internet phenomenon and I fucking hate that. Fetish goths are part of the culture too if it alligns with all of the above mentioned. And its fine to find those things attraktive or fetishise fetish goth. Its an own cathegory in kink communities and goes along with the goth cummuity. Just don't shit on others. Gateceeping is fucking cringe.
Honestly I and a lot of guys just think the astetic looks attractive, some are into it for the astetic, others fully for the other aspects that they may like about a “goth girl”. I find that any “____ girl” is attractive to many dudes.
I kinda think that a lot of these women are just so disappointed in their life choices that they have to make them seem like they're most desired option. I don't get it. I have a kid. I like being a mom. I wouldn't mind winning awards, either. But that's me. Success is success and it's subjective. Why they have to validate themselves with hate is beyond me.
The thing is, if the mom in the comic _also_ said, “I won!” Then it would just be a cute comic about how different people desire different things, and no one would mind (except conservatives but they always mind) But the mom specifically _had_ to say “no you didn’t”. Because the comic ain’t about how motherhood is good, it’s about how careers are bad. That’s the artist’s point. Fuck that point.

No. Life is how you make it. No one else can do that for you. If you want to live the tradlife go for it. If you want to live another way go for it. Just dont hurt others.

Yes glitter is evil and most of the other stuff mentioned is most likely going to get the person arrested. So why do something that's going to self harm you? There's acting crazy and then there's acting stupid.
"You're not like other girls" is so many red flags. The moment you stop being exceptional and keeping him entertained and being a mother for his fragile kid ego you'll be "just like other girls" and get blamed for his every insecurity that he blames women for in general. And I wouldn't expect someone like that not to betray their partner's trust when they find "the one"who is the TRUE "not like other girls" when having a real partner is work and the fantasy of someone new is more appealing. A statement like that betrays a lack of awareness and of humanization of their partner and ultimately a lack of maturity and willingness to take responsibility.
As someone who’s friends are mostly men, I AM like other girls. I like gaming, I like “spilling tea”. I don’t get why some women have to bring other women down. Nobody cares that you’re different, everyone is lol. Nobody is ever the same, get over yourself
These kinds of videos are always wild as a lesbian because so many of the things they're shitting on women for I find genuinely attractive or possess myself. I melt over women with tattoos. I die for conversations with educated women. I'm 6'2" and I genuinely think its really cute when a woman asks me to help her reach something and then smiles and says thank you. Women talking sh*t about feminists as if feminists aren't the reason they're able to talk sh*t to begin with and do a majority of what they do to put them down is always going to be peak irony to me. Like, yes, please continue to speak poorly about the people who made it possible for you to get a job to support yourself and/or leave your spouse if they start beating you.
That’s the irony of having freedom, people take it for grant it. Other commodities too. We’ve gone a full circle people are so separated from being sick they’re anti-vax. People are so separated from food sources they ask for vegan chicken eggs or “organic grass fed chicken” etc People want to buy unpasteurized milk to drink because… IDK they think being sick is good somehow?
As a woman, I can say that of all the women I have met, only a handful went to an extreme route of "feminism". Most of us just want an equal paycheck and the right to vote. We want to be able to speak out when someone assaults us and be taken seriously. We want to have our work at home, and our jobs, and our education, to be recognized as just as good and just as needed to keep our village going. These extreme "feminists" aren't any different than holy-rollers from any group of people who demand better. We dont claim them any more than you do. Most of us think they are batshit and making it worse. Most of us think they need to stop attacking men, women, and family values. Most of us think they belong in asylums because they are crazy and they have not been helping anything by being the only ones given a public voice.
I like feminism, but I do not like most feminists, if that makes sense. Feminism as a concept is great, but so many feminists have started using it as an excuse to be sexist that I don't think any of the women I know would call themselves feminists, even the ones that support feminism itself.
Absolutely agreed. But I will talk shit about the ones who put down women who do want to be traditional or the ones who treat men like shit (there are some extreme ones who do and it's very fucking sad)
The "two types of short girls" is pretty accurate. There are the ones who ask for help, the ones who will climb a store shelf like a spider monkey, and the ones who will grab a random object and try to knock what they need off of the shelf. Excited for the glow-in-the-dark emotional support demon!

It's really fascinating how the freedo to be who you are without fear really frees a person to do things they wanted t do without being stereotyped for it.
Me, in middle school: I can't wear dresses, skirts, or the color pink and I have to hide my stuffed animals in my closet or else someone will think I'm one of those girly girls and not a cool tomboy. Me now: Yes I did just buy myself a dress from goodwill, and yes I am still a guy.
I always thought I was quirky and not like other girls. I just never fit in and people told me I was 'special' and weird... Then I found out it was autism and being non-binairy all along. I do fit in a box in the end whoo
I feel this so hard. Was always told I wasn't "like other girls" in the negative context, as people saying I was weird and I should try to be more "normal", and all my trouble with people bullying me was because I wasn't trying hard enough to be like other people. Welp, turns out I have autism, ADHD, and I'm non-binary trans-masculin. So I guess they were right, I wasn't like "other" girls because I wasn't one to begin with. But I did eventually find my people to fit in with (even if it's only been a few so far), and I'm happy to be accepted for me. I might not fit into the boxes people originally had in mind for me, and the boxes might morph and change a bit over time, but as long as the boxes I fit into are MY boxes, I think it turned out alright in the end. ^_^ OP, I hope you also have found some great people who share your boxes, or at least who accept you for them, and that you feel at home and happy now. ^_^

(Also to go against the norm and celebrate the diy aspect from goth's punk roots ect ect.) Like "hey you tease your hair and wear a lot of ripped clothes, do you like this band too?" But since its the age of the Internet its not really a huge reason to dress that way anymore. If you like Bauhaus and London After Midnight there's already a bunch of people that are talking about in in some videos or blogs. I think the reason why a lot of trad goths have become such elitist when it comes to "what dress is goth" is because of the comericaisation of the subculture. (Mall goths and later nu goths) instead of anyone who liked the music and philosophy of a gothic life, it became "how much money does it take till people think i look weird" to be goth. This subculture was birthed from the working class rejecting the willful ignorance of the complete morbidity of what was going on in the 80s what with the demonization of everything different, environmental distruction, rejection of the culter of queer people and poc, and the taboo of everything from death to nudity. Dispite the Internet and the availability of everything, i want other goths to remember that the roots of this culture are important. If you like the music, support your local scene. If you like the philosophy, write and lurk about how society accepts tragedy and death. If you like the history, share and educate about what you know and love. It doesn't matter what you dress or look like, dancing in darkness is for anyone that wants to keep the lights off.
My problem when I was younger (think 10 ish) was that I genuinely didn't feel like other girls always gossiping about crushes and who they thought were cute, and would rather hang out with guys because they didn't do that. Turns out I'm just aro/ace and straight up didn't get what the girls were going on about
4:00 She sounds like she took her socks and shoes off on the plane, sat cross legged so her knees were on the laps of the people on either side of her (cause you just know she had a middle seat), sprayed her "aromatherapy" into the air making everyone gag, and then loudly went Ohmmmmmm, Ohmmmmm through the whole flight. It wasn't Witch people were calling her...
There are two main types of "not like other girls": the ones who think all girls are drunken party going tattooed hoes and think they're better than them for wanting to be a conservative traditional wife, and then there's the girls who think all other girls are fashion addicted romance novel reading princess-wannabes and think they're better than them for enjoying rock music, horror movies and being loud. Then there's some other variations, like horse girls, who are kinda in between, the mystical witch girls, who are a variation of the second type, the "one of the boys" type which can be on either end of the spectrum depending on the kind of boy they hang out with, and several other types. They all tend to be staunchly anti-feminist for some weird reason.
There's another type! They feel like they just don't fit in with girls, and that makes them insecure and sad, so they turn those feelings into a protective shell and think they're unique. One day they realise that all girls are unique, and think girls are pretty cool! But they still don't feel like one of them, and eventually one day realise they aren't actually girls, and are actually dudes, or nonbinary folks. It me!
Then there are all the trans boys, lesbians, & undiagnosed ND girls who start believing in this 'not like other girls' bs because they feel excluded & alienated
The award vs having children thing always gets me. You can have both. You don't have to choose. Think about Beyonce, one of the most-awarded singers in the world, she has a husband and kids and seems pretty happy to me. Not to mention the women who dedicated their lives to scientific research who have saved the world. Not only are they celebrated by millions of people but they also have kids and families. That's wonderful. It is also fine if a woman doesn't have kids or a husband but just lives her life for herself. All women are useful and deserve to be loved.
Jack Black's Mom helped finish a bunch of the math involved in saving the astronauts of the Apollo 13 _durng Jack Black's birth._ (not literally between contractions or anything like that, but she brought her work to the delivery room and worked on it there, which is still indescribably kickass of her) If you can be the Dragon Warrior's mom AND be a literal rocket scientist, you officially win life.

Fun fact: back when women couldn't vote, women got the right to vote by men voting for it. So a woman saying women shouldn't vote is a woman saying she thinks she would vote better than men, haha.
@@AIHumanEqualityThe joke was that the anti-suffragists are hypocritically attacking the voting decisions of the men who voted to grant women the right to vote. The fact that women had been fighting for that right is historically important, but not really relevant to this particular punchline.
The deciding vote to determine if woman could vote or not was on the shoulders of a guy who was told to vote against suffrage. However, the guy’s mom had told him beforehand that if he voted to not allow women to vote, she would no longer see him as her son and never forgive him. He really loved his mom.
With that "Women shouldn't vote" lady, I feel I have a very convincing argument for voting! "Okay, let's pretend for a moment that women aren't allowed to vote, and we are voting on if women should be allowed to. If the vote stalemates, women won't be allowed to vote, otherwise, we go with what the majority voted for. I vote for Women to be able to vote, how do you vote?" When she likely voices that she will vote for not having a vote, this is how it concludes. "Okay so that's 1 vote for women being able to vote, and since you're a woman, your vote doesn't count, so women are allowed to vote! See how important being able to give your opinion on things isn't something that should be restricted? You will feel cheated in the long run, because you might be very passionate about a topic, but just because of your gender, you shouldn't be excluded from being able to present your opinion." Will this change her mind? Probably not. It'll at least give her something to think about though, which could sway her into some critical thinking in the future.
Not letting everyone vote is a gateway to oppression. This is why in Switzerland, where everything is done by referendums, some women gained a right to vote as late as in 1990 when the Swiss Supreme Court forced every canton to comply with a federal Equal Rights Amendment (in some cantons, women had the right to vote since 1971). Because of course, in the referendums, it was only the men voting, and in one of the cantons, they had to be forced by the court to let women vote. You don't HAVE TO vote if you don't want to, but you should have the right to do so. TBH I think it's a violation of human rights that in the US and some other countries, prisoners are not allowed to vote.
And as an older women, this trend really bothers me. I'm from the generation of women who has other women's backs. I don't understand the need to put other women down. As they say " Be the woman who straightens another woman's crown without telling the world it was crooked." Thanks for doing this one. And you all smell amazing today! 🥰
@dayokamaria6802 Definitely! I didn't mean to say there aren't. I know so many young women who Definitely have other women's backs. I meant this trend in particular. Sorry if my words were clumsy 🩷
The "letting my husband lead so i don't have to think about politics" is tradwife bs, it's the worst kind of pickme shit. Trying to force all women to go back to being their husband's property.
Right? It's okay to live a full-on B & D lifestyle, it's okay to be open about it, it's not okay to force other people into your fetish with the threat of legal consequences.
I don't like when people make such of a big deal when someone doesn't want or can't drink a coffee (or alcohol or something else common). My brother has been both coffee and alcohol abstinent due to his schizophrenia, and I stay from regularly drinking coffee because every time I drink it daily I become both physically and emotionally tired, almost depressed (I also similarly avoid alcohol). And every time I have to explain a coffee lover why I don't drink coffee they react like they never heard about health complications due to caffeine.
The divorce rate may be lower back then, because it was harder for women to file for divorce, but if I recall correctly the death rate of abusive husbands was higher. Just because they couldn't divorce them doesn't mean they couldn't get rid of them. Although that might be even earlier than 1940s.
It's weird to describe yourself as goth AND transphobic because the gothic community tends to be be pretty effeminate leaning androgenous. There is a lot of overlap in gothic men's and women's wear. We often wear each other's clothes.
Also like all alternate backgrounds come from not fitting in and breaking social norms and accepting the people who society doesn't accept... Like terf and any alternate culture just doesn't mix
As a non binary alt person leaning toward goth but also hippie aesthetic, I completely agree, I feel comfortable in my clothes and they can be made more feminine, masculine or a cool mix of both!
16:59 breaking a acrylic nail or a nail in general can definitely hurt- im not saying falling off a horse can compare since i have no experience in that, but i have experienced breaking a acrylic nail that ripped my actual nail off from underneath. Not too fun to laugh off, and not really something to make fun of or compare when both sides can hurt in certain circumstances equally.
I know, it can get nasty. I worked in a bookstore and had a stack of like 20 thick novels shift or something and it resulted in one of my fake nails getting snapped in half and ripping my actual nail...let's just say I was glad there were no customers to hear what I said.

6:10 I remember in secondary school (like 11-16 years old) I had a friend who was genuinely feared by the older boys at the school, because she wasn't afraid to just kick them full force in the groin, consequences be damned. She full on went prison tactics of just "beat up the toughest guy there, instant respect"
I had a friend in middle school that was really feminine and loved fashion and beauty (she was like the 'beauty guru' of our class) BUT her solid reputation around the school was of a 'thug' bc she would fistfight bullies and specially boys harrasing girls without second thought, she even sent one to the hospital bc the mf was spreading his ex nudes to everyone, most of the girls adored her! (luckily she never got spelled bc she never fought inside the school but everyone still knew, she was my hero ngl)
Thats what me and my friend used to do... First just to avoid bullying... Later to keep our friends from being bullied - but it is true that boys are SCARED AF from girls who will fight for themselves and friends and are not afraid of consequences
I used to be a "not like other girls" girl, because i was always picked on and felt alienated from everyone else. So viewing 'typical' girls as somehow 'boring' or 'worse' than me was my only way to cope, because otherwise id always do the opposite. Which, i still did a lot anyways, ironically enough... Needless to say, ive learned the errors of my ways, found healthier ways of coping and also turned out to just be a neurodivergent trans guy all along. Surprise!
I think there's nothing wrong with being proud of being unique. Where the "not like other girls" girls go wrong is shitting on others for literally no reason Also I feel that second paragraph lol "Why am I so different from them? Wait I was never one of them to begin with" XD

17:54 imagine that: your hobbies and interests are not determined by your gender! 🤯 It's absolutely wild to me how we've arrived at attributing hobbies, interests and even personality traits to the genders and why people keep mindlessly perpetuating this myth and hammering into kids minds who they should be based on their gender. it's also said, because it makes so many kids feel insecure about parts of their personality for their entire life. I never understood as a child why we are doing this to ourselves (restricting ourselves this way) and I still don't understand it as an adult... 🤦♂
When i was young, they tried to overcome the concept of gender. They did not call it that way, but at least in mycountry, kids clothes were nearly identical for boys and girls and the color scheme was colorful. Now, when i dress my child, i can choose between boy, girl and sometimes, i just can search sizes. We made several steps backwards, its terrifying. I never felt the need to BE the stereotypes of my gender, but i think some very young people feel they are wrong to not be the clichee of their gender. You can be whoever you want to be. Regardless of gender. And you do not need to call yourself nonbinary or queer. If you are, wonderful, if you are just a tomboy or a boy who likes girly things thats ok too.

I hated pink with a burning passion, refused to wear it, or own anything coloured pink. Now everything I have has to have SOME form of pink on it, any form!! The more pink, the better!! It's such a wonderful colour. I absolutely love it so much.
24:51 - No cause at 4 years old, I told myself “I like pink in a not-girl way”. I always corrected people who called me a girl, telling them I’m a tomboy, despite not being masculine in any way (didn’t care much about sports or other whatnot; it’s just that tomboy was the most accurate term I had in my vocabulary to what I felt). I just felt uncomfortable being seen as a girl sometimes. I tried to shut up about it when I was 6 and onward cause I didn’t wanna be a ‘pick-me girl’. I stopped having a favorite color cause pink is too girly. Eventually my tastes changed and I liked yellow and purple, which was ok cause it didn’t make people think I’m girly. I’m a kind and caring individual, and I don’t care if other people are girly-girls, that’s cool, good for them! They probably are cute, just like all girls are. I just wish people didn’t perceive *me* as one. Yeah, so it turns out I’m genderfluid. “I’m not like other girls”, cause I’m not a girl.
15:11 I actually understand this one a little bit. I'm a First Edition hunter with my books- everything is either pre-ordered, specifically found online, or random chance in retail stores, and I have a lot of them signed by the authors. It's one of my hobbies, I like growing my personal library. If it's one of my first edition books that got butchered for a proposal, I would be livid. BUT if it was a random, store bought, later printing of a book, I think it would be okay. I wouldn't say it's because I'm the ~quirky book girl~, it's just that I spend a lot of time and money on having a collection that means a lot to me, and if it was vandalized for any reason, it would hurt my feelings. Imagine someone destroying an expensive limited edition item that you're proud of just to try to impress you. That's the viewpoint I see it from. But I've seen beautiful art made from books, and this kind of proposal could be really cute if it's done right.

And a woman or a group of women could be verbally harassed by men in broad daylight and it was dismissed as "men being men." I remember seeing a post about someone's take on the "not like other girls" attitude. - the-radical-buzzard-of-discourse
I think it brings up a very interesting point. What makes this subreddit so cringe is that it is full grown women who haven't realized that they aren't special when most of us realized around middle school or the start of high school.
Are you talking about Sarah Z??
I stopped liking girly things because my neglectful/abusive mom didn't support and participate in my childhood and interest in girly things and often actively hindered them
like she said I couldn't play with a dollhouse my grandfather got me until I *proved* I valued dolls enough so I would every day not play with anything else I wanted to play with at the time in order to play dolls to prove myself but after almost a year playing dolls began to be painful to me and I realised she had never once played with me or looked at me playing so it was impossible to get her approval so I gave up.

That's why they're not going to watch it, it would shatter their worldview and they don't want that.
Exactly. There’s even an “I’m not like other girls” type character who’s an asshole for a good chunk of the movie until she sees the kind of insight her Barbie loving mother has.
And all of these groups have at least one value in common: being your true authentic self.

as a goth it makes me sad when goths try to gate keep what is "real goth" when the only requirement it to like the music. it honestly took forever to feel that i belonged in the community bc I couldn't afford to buy a whole wardrobe. It’s about identity, how you feel and wether that culture is something that appeals to you. It’s a cultural about exceptence that’s one of the reason why LGBTQ+ often over lap with the goth sphere.
diy until i die fr.
Wait, so when I was hanging out with my goth friends but wasn't Goth, I was actually still Goth? Neat.
i think the meme is more about the fact that men say they like goth girls but only bc they find them “exotic” and dont actually like it when they are actually goth (participate in goth culture, enjoy goth music/literature), or when theyre goth in a way they arent sexually attracted to. it feels like fetishizing and infantilizing.

Just here to agree with this sentiment x
Yeah. I’m a girl and watching too many of boy vs girl memes put me in a pick me girl mindset.
@hmnhntr Yeah, seriously. I'm a guy too, and one of my woman friends is one of the funniest people I know.
In defense of the “goth girl” meme, I think it’s more poking fun at guys who want women to display the most fetishized (but not actually alternative) parts of alternative cultures, but have no interest in any other aspect.

People are so separated from food sources they ask for vegan chicken eggs or “organic grass fed chicken” etc
People want to buy unpasteurized milk to drink because… IDK they think being sick is good somehow?
Yeah they aint talking about the equal rights feminists. They talk about "I have an OF you must respect me. Also kill all men" type of feminists

As a goth, i wish people would stop caring about the fashion and focus more on the music and history. The reason that goths have a certain "look" is just to connect and find other goths.
Lmfao I just made a similar comment when i heard the 'aromatherapy' thing, they definitely weren't saying "witch"
I think it rhymes with witch.
I feel bad for the actual witchs who mind their own business and just wanna collect pretty stones and write affirmations in their spell journals.
Because if they're not like other girls, why should they fight for other girls?
The award vs having children thing always gets me. You can have both. You don't have to choose. Think about Beyonce, one of the most-awarded singers in the world, she has a husband and kids and seems pretty happy to me. Not to mention the women who dedicated their lives to scientific research who have saved the world. Not only are they celebrated by millions of people but they also have kids and families. That's wonderful. It is also fine if a woman doesn't have kids or a husband but just lives her life for herself. All women are useful and deserve to be loved.
They don't even have to be 'useful' to others. They can live for themselves and it's totally fine!

Fun fact: back when women couldn't vote, women got the right to vote by men voting for it. So a woman saying women shouldn't vote is a woman saying she thinks she would vote better than men, haha.
lmao good point
Unfortunately the original point still stands.

I vote for Women to be able to vote, how do you vote?"
When she likely voices that she will vote for not having a vote, this is how it concludes.
"Okay so that's 1 vote for women being able to vote, and since you're a woman, your vote doesn't count, so women are allowed to vote! See how important being able to give your opinion on things isn't something that should be restricted? You will feel cheated in the long run, because you might be very passionate about a topic, but just because of your gender, you shouldn't be excluded from being able to present your opinion."
Will this change her mind? Probably not. It'll at least give her something to think about though, which could sway her into some critical thinking in the future.
She’s Pearl Davis. She’s a massive pick me and she herself has admitted it’s due to insecurity.
@@MinecraftIsLoveMinecraftIsLifeshe really just said underlying reason out loud, huh?
would she vote to not vote?
Your opinion is invalidated by your opinion.

I remember in secondary school (like 11-16 years old) I had a friend who was genuinely feared by the older boys at the school, because she wasn't afraid to just kick them full force in the groin, consequences be damned.

It's absolutely wild to me how we've arrived at attributing hobbies, interests and even personality traits to the genders and why people keep mindlessly perpetuating this myth and hammering into kids minds who they should be based on their gender. it's also said, because it makes so many kids feel insecure about parts of their personality for their entire life.
I laughed so hard when "I'm a straight girl and I eat steak" when literally almost all of my lesbian dates were vegan or at least vegetarian. It's the lesbians that eat salads lmao

If it's one of my first edition books that got butchered for a proposal, I would be livid. BUT if it was a random, store bought, later printing of a book, I think it would be okay.
