I like Loughnane a lot, I don't doubt his knowledge. However when he said Tipperary had tormented Clare more than anyone over the years I immediately thought - what about Cork? Cork were top dogs in the 70s and 80s when he was playing. Anyway it's a minor detail. His passion for the game is brilliant and his achievements as a manager are legendary.
Ìn the mid 90's Tipp were the best team in Munster. That's why he villified them. Hatred is a great motivator. If Cork were the best, he would have done likewise with them. But you're right in what you are saying, Cork inflicted more pain on Loughnane as a player more than any other team.
oppamaclare I wouldn't have said Tipp were the best team in Munster in the mid 90s, mind you they could've won both the 96 and 97 All-Irelands. I think 93 stood out in the minds of Clare hurling people, it was an awful humiliation. Perhaps that's why he said Tipp caused the most hurt. It seems to me that Tipp are more disliked by the other Munster counties than Cork, and I don't know why that is. Dan Shanahan said that in Waterford it was felt that Tipp would hammer ya and rub it in, whereas Cork would just hammer ya and commiserate.
