LG G7 ThinQ review: A hidden gem?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 лип 2018
- It seems LG has the knack of pushing out phones that end up with nothing more than the "underrated" title getting slapped on it. The G7 ThinQ is no exception. I purchased this phone myself, used it as my main phone for a couple weeks, and I genuinely believe it's something worth checking out mainly because of its competitive feature set and recent price drops!

LG must have the world record for the most phones that are underated...
Tommy Crosby But there’s so much better, why buy LG?
Makrus Because value for money. As Walmart puts it, "Save money, Live Better." Sure there might be better options to go for, but are they really worth $200-$400 more?
@@DLBBALL yes they are worth 400$ when it comes to LG and their many ways to just fuck customers over
@@QcK0101 there is not so much better you goon. Maybe a couple and that would be personal preference but not so much. The LG and Samsung are the top Android phones as far as most selling flagships. The Motorola is powerful but not sold as much as the other two and I hate the Samsung ui/skin it sucks. LG was always better and easier to navigate and find settings. Motorola has the stock android and is the best interface. The Iphone just plain sucks. Was good until Android upped its game .
Yeah
Wide Angle Cam, Quality DAC, Headphone Jack, Great Speaker, Super bright screen option, SD Card, FM Radio, Waterproofing, Great Build Quality (MIL-STD-810G compliant) Bluetooth 5, Fingerprint Scanner, Wireless Charging... ticks so many boxes, great job LG.
Dave A no updates no support no idea all hardware and no software support
Rõb Chåmbërlãin Is that all you have to say? Every comment you make is about the same thing. If you dont like it don't ruin it for everyone else. Download a better security app, use different apps for custimization if you don't like the UI. You're a broken record.
High Tech Prosthesis if I didn't like them I wouldn't have brought 8 LG phones hahah how is it spoiling for the rest of I'm telling you a major flaw of LG phones that I have experience of ? There lack of os updates is a bad thing that nearly every other manufacturer has started to step up and fix yet LG still dont.
No security apps can fix holes in a os level flaw. The Google security updates are very important!
Rõb Chåmbërlãin I'm running Android 6 on my phone and I have yet to get hacked or anything...
And it will probably get no software support, just like the LG V20. LG V20 was an amazing device, and received ZERO software support. Literally did not get a single OS update its entire life. It is a complete shame. They make a great phone then leave it to rot, never getting any updates, literally killing the phones as they're left behind by basically every other phone company on the market.
For the past 2 years the LG G series and V series been underrated. 🙄
iTechUOutGuy the bootloop issues
Their software experience, camera, and speaker are all behind similar competition. The only thing they seem to do right is their quad-dac (which I wish more phones had)
Cre8 has been non exsistant
I heard they fixed that bootloop issue since the g6. The G7 is a solid phone, it's probably one of the most balanced phone out there regarding specs and features. The only problem with the LG phones is that they dont really do anything unique and their marketing sucks ass. However the G7 has wide angle camera, boombox speakers and quad dac audio.
They haven't had the bootloop issue since the g4. Crazy how Samsung gets over an exploding battery within less than a year and lg is still known for a non existing bootloop issue. 🤔
just upgraded my lg v20 to lg g7 best decision I've made
I'm also a V20 user.
Me too! I've had the V20 for a while and now I'm waiting for the G7 to arrive!
If it had the same second screen and removable battery, i would maybe agree.. I see no need to upgrade my v20 to any phone out right now
Five and a half hours of screen time isn't enough? Somebody needs to put down the phone and leave it there.
Sometimes you are on holiday / vacation and need your phone for photos and videos for the day and 5 even 6 hours is "just" enough if it lasts that long. It isn't the best though. 8 to 14 is about the new standard
Nobody needs to be on the phone that long how hard is it to plug it in I mean c'mon.
@@biffstor No phone has 8 hrs of screen on time, much less 14 hrs.
swamp33z 8 hours is possible an a certain Huawei and OnePlus phones for example. 14 is a stretch. OLED with big battery and dark mode. Screen in time is a variable metric. Gaming screen on time will be less than reading with dark mode enabled just as an example. So there’s that.
@@kingsamvisualstbh most people rarely have their phone on battery saver all the time. I can see Huawei with 8 hrs but never 14 hrs
6gb ram 128 rom, chipset 845, expandable, headphone jack, wide lens, selfie cam, manual mode, ip68, super bright display, hifi dac, boombox speakers, sexy slim, that thing is called masterpiece. I remember my Lg G2.
jerome cortez best part is you can get one for $200 now. Don't see why I would pay $1k to get a little of a better phone. LG being underrated is a huge win for me
Best commercial flagship smartphone ever. LG needs to work its marketing better, in order to take the profit of such a nice phone.
After having series of iPhones and Samsungs phones I came across LG G7 ThinQ and finally found my peace with having smartphone. Honestly, very stable, reliable phone I ever had. Very user friendly and meeting most of my expectations, except camera (iPhone camera is great!). For very strange reason LG phones are very much underrated. I just hope LG will continue to manufacture them, cause my next phone will be LG as well.
I've switched from a Samsung user to LG and not regretting it✌👍
Just ordered one of these online for $240 through Verizon for a Cyber Monday sale! Can't beat that! One day only.
Wow! Seriously? What a great deal.Good for you.
I can beat that. Got mine for $170 :O
Got for 140$
A feature you overlooked, might actually be the thing that I'll buy this phone for, it sets it apart from everything else currently in the market, the ever-so-important HiFi Quad DAC, Wireless Audio quality is just not there yet, and I don't see that day coming close..
Raed Skerek I did mention its superior audio performance plus I listed the HiFi DAC at towards the end. The feature is carried over and improved from the V30 and it really is good
Zachary Anderson Using an older phone with a DAC just ruined me, I can't go back to a phone without it anymore, I currently have the HTC 10, and if it didn't have all these issues I ran into, I would've kept it around for years...
Had my G7 for 6 weeks now and like it very very much. My last 3 phones have been the G5, S7 then Xperia XZ premium (sent back).
I went for the G7 mainly for its outstanding onboard audio quality but it has proved to also be excellent in every other area.
Bit puzzled as to why some have complained about the battery life, it lasts all day, every day for me no problem and I use the satnav extensively with my work.
The only negatives I have to say is that its a bit slippery and the battery is not 'plug and play' replaceable like in my old G5 (for when that time comes) but it probably wouldnt be splash/waterproof if it was... and I use a case for it anyhow, so a 100% happy (usually very fussy and skeptical) user here.
A+ from me.. :)
Very nice review man! I lolve your approach so much, it's so crisp and subtle, but extremely thorough.
I really am considering LG every time I need a new phone, if they would compete with Oneplus prices, I'd surely pick this one!
aNOther3quenSEA Thanks!
I now owned LG g7 for the past 2 months and it is absolutely great
Quality content as always Zach. Seriously where you been lol?
Chris Emerick Thanks Chris! Slowly but surely making my way back!
Zachary Anderson would love to see a pixel 2 10 months later or whatever you want to call it.
IT IS NOT UNDERRATED. IT IS UNDER-REPORTED BY YOU PEOPLE. Keep giving ads for the Apples and Sammies and then say LG is underrated, Ugh.
Samsung and Apple are paying a lot for ads, why wouldn't people advertise them ?
LG is seriously lacking in advertisement department.
Lg is the one slacking on ads.
LG is not underrated their right where they should be they don't deserve to be among the top smartphones because of certain things they don't do right. LG don't up there update their phones consistently the battery life on their phones of pure garbage, seriously LG why would you release the LG G7 and then give it a 3000mah battery that's so 2013-2015. My LG G6 which came out last year and is my back of phone has a 3300mah battery. Also I've been looking at reviews on the LGv40 and compared to other flagships the v40 battery life is less than Stellar also. I think the v40 only has the same capacity battery as my LG G6 why not put a 4000mah battery in it. It's little things like that that's keeping LG in the back seat and until they recognize that and start giving timely updates on their phones, they're going to be on the back burner where they belong. I've been an LG use I've had the LG G2 I still got my old LG G4 I had the LG V10 had the LG v20 I currently got the LGG6 as my backup phone but they don't deserve deserve to be on a pedestal. Look at what Huawei is accomplishing every time you turn around Huawei is releasing phones with huge batteries in screen fingerprint scanners the mate 20 Pro can be used as a battery pack to charge of the phones that's the stuff that LG should be doing not some no-name company like Huawei that came out of nowhere over the last 5-6 years.
@@pp3k3jamail Yet they are among the top. The top is LG and Samsung. Then Iphone...since you can't do as much on those. Samsung is not more popular...they just seem that way because of all the ads.
I've been pronouncing thinQ as "think" assuming LG was being clever. Obviously neither of us were.
Thom Lessard same
Me too lol no shame
It's actually "Think you"
Same...lol
one of the best videos done on this channel
Darrion S Thanks!
I agree, I have the g7😁
Totally agree. I got this as a replacement phone, and after using, was really super pleased. Good as any flagship. Thanks for the review.
I loved the rear power button of older LG phones. Also liked the volume buttons there too.
Just bought one yesterday. Agreed on most points. Excellent build, nice screen, good features, great price.
I've had a LG mobile for the past four years and I just bought a LG G7 ThinQ and I'm pleased with the features it has... the price was mint and cheap, I say everyone should give this phone a try and I'm telling you they would find it hard to want any other mobile
Really would prefer if they went back to the g4s volume buttons on the back
just ordered my own I'm so excited
I just bought this particular phone today, and so far I am liking it. I traded in my 4 year old LG Enact for it which has been a great phone for me in the past 4 years, and I would've still been using it today, but it got to where it would turn itself on and off without me knowing it. The only thing that I absolutely hate about this phone is the MicroSD card slot. I wish they would've stuck with the old push in-push out style instead of having to use a key to pop the tray out which holds the SIM card as well as the SD card. It can be a bear to get both cards to simply slide back into the phone. Other than that, I am impressed with it.
Great review! I really like this phone but I'm waiting to see if LG starts updating their phones more often to the latest Android version! Once again thanks for this amazing video.
Using it for a year and a half now, still doing a good job!
Got my G7 ThinQ 3 days ago, it's been amazing especially since it replaced my old S5
Loving mine since I bought it on day one...
Douglas Smith me too👍🏼
Me too!
How's the battery life??
Claire Redfield Enough for a day. Normal usage.
Congrats, nice phone
It also has one of the best DAC for audio through 3.5 phone jack!
Watching this on my LG V20. Excellent review. I've had iPhone and Samsung flagships, but I think LG flagships are the best phones no-one talks about. I couldn't be a any happier with my V20.
Kodjo Dagba Thanks!
Watching this on mine. Still going strong and I love it.
Can I please know how's the battery life and does it get better battery life if the screen resolution is reduced?
Thx
@@crimsonharry1958 I haven't had an issue because I start my day by unplugging it from my charger on my nightstand. I use about 20% watching UA-cam, Facebook and listening to Spotify bofore I leave for work. I plug it back in for the ride to work and it's at 100% when I unplug it. By mid day it's usually around 75% and I plug it in at my desk charger. I leave work at 100% and by the time I go to bed it's anywhere from 20-50% after basically constant use. So overall it's been fine for me but granted I'm constantly topping it off throughout the day. I don't think it would last an entire day of heavy use but it may under moderate use. Hope this helps. Good luck
@@miguelcandelaria460 thanks for the quick reply 😊
Sprint got a special now ,13$ for lease. Got one, excited to get it. Thanks for the video!
Would you recommend this smartphone in 2021? How do you rate the battery life? I hope a user can make an update video to answer these questions.
I'm thinking about getting it now I'm gonna try it out for sure this month
I bought the phone about 3 years ago, I have used it since, and your review was accurate . A very nice phone.
Absolutely loving my g7, the camera is feature rich as well as the rest of the phone, Can you say MEDIA!✌🏼
Angel A-ones Roman do you still use it? How's the battery and do you do any gaming on it? I'm worried about lag and stutters reported by some other people
@@carlosdeleon7755 I still have my g7 and I'm still enjoying it, I get 6 hours to 5 1/2 hours of screen on time and I'm a heavy user. Not sure about anyone else but my gaming experience is great , playing Darkness rises, asphalt 9 and pub g, I really still love this phone.✌🏼
Yes it has the best quality for pictures and it actually lets me do 1080p youtube
Can you please reply, I'm getting this phone tommorow. Is it good?
LGs are the most underrated phones....
Love mine had it for month and half and it's done it's job
What are you shooting these videos with? They look super crispy.
Nice review. Simple and on the point.
I've had plenty of LG phones in the past and the LCD screen was never low quality. I like Samsungs screens but their AMOLED screen over saturates colors and you can see this difference when you see a non AMOLED display.
You are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT about not being "overwhelmed" with features! I just switched from the GalS9 to this phone because of that reason! … I like!… although ive had all the "G" series since the "G3." 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
You made a nice review keep up the good work
Pretty good review. Only thing I think needs mentioning is lgs track record with untimely updates.
Lucas Stevason the updates are worsr part about lg.. My lg g6 indian version is still running nougat with oreo nowhere in sight.. Whats even worse- the Indian version cannot be rooted.
Excellent review. One of the best lg g7 review..
I bought this phone about a week ago, not very long but I LOVE this phone more than any other phone ive had before.
great video as always by zach!
good night moon Thank you!
BEst phone case to make your phone last the longest? What is your take on refurbished? I am shopping around
Has there been any issues with the Bluetooth. I had 4 LG G6 which all had Bluetooth app stopping problems.
Thanks
I like the IPS LCD screen. Don't have to worry about burn in like LEDs.
Where do you buy this 128g with 6gigs of ram? Every store i go to locally only carries the 4gig of ram with 64g mem.
Nice analysis. Is this the only Android with expandable storage? Anyone else makes expandable storage?
I love my G7 thinQ, so many features amd would recommend to everyone looking for an upgrade!
First time see one who focus on the phone instead of their faces. Love your review
Some things.
1. Use Up swipe to bring up navigation buttons when they disappear.
2. MicroUSB has a propriety connector
3. The included Wireless phone stand may stop working correctly. It did this to me.
Did side by side specs on this phone and the Galaxy s9
Specs are identical and this phone has bigger screen? I made right choice.
I have the LG G4 and love the removable battery, but had a bootloop problem twice and now my phone overheats and won't last more than 5 hours on battery saving mode for general use and gets extremely hot. I tried the Samsung S7 and didn't like the UI on that. Why can't you replace the battery on the G7? How reliable is it?
I'm using the LG g7+ and I'm really satisfied with it also had the g6 which was amazing
i have this phone and I was wondering if there was any way that I could make the 1000 nits of boosted brightness last forever (right now it's maxed out at 3 mins).
Just bought a lightly used one on ebay for $200! For a phone that rivaled the S9 last year, I can't believe how much of a steal it is. Most underrated used phone on the market right now. Price to performance is unmatched.
This is the first time an LG phone actually makes me curious to try, I would definitely get it but I think they should work more on the camera performance.
I got it! Left iPhone to Android and glad I did! I did not realize what I was missing!
I can get this phone (new) for €330! (Of course because it is so underrated)
Still a great deal right?
Running an over wotked LG k20 here.. She keeps on pushing. Lg is such a good brand
Does it still overheat like most lg phones. Last two LG's i had overheated, one started crashing and the other killed its own screen.
Great review. Maybe lm doing something wrong but i dont find the bass that good.maybe you could tell me?
What is the next better option if one needs better camera?
Agree wholeheartedly. Have owned one for over a month and think it's very underrated
Nate Clements hey, so LG india priced it at USD 550.00, almost equal to one plus 6.. How is the battery life?? My g6 give 5.5 hrs of sot.
This was a very well made and commented review. Nice. The lcd screen over oled is disappointing. I had the g6 and loved that one, minus the easily scratched camera, but I might pick the G7 up thanks to your review.
I bought myself the LG G7+ Thinq, with 128gb+6gb ram 💪🏼
Where do I find the wallpaper?

How does this phone fare with ONE PLUS 6?and does battery lasts an entire day?
How about battery backup and overall phone performance?
Is this phone worth it with Jump on demand or just pay the installments?
Great review brother. Been in the market for a new phone, this is going for 550 where am at, sounds a little tempting
Im concerned about the glass back. Will it break easy?
So if you can find this g7 ThinQ for under $550, how does stack up again the oneplus 6? Seems like comparable hardware at a comparable price point.
My friend has the oneplus 6 and he wanted to trade with me. we swapped for 2 days to try it out, he still wanted the trade but I didn't . build quality, there pretty much identical. things that I lose going with the OP6, no wireless charging, no water resistance, no SD card support, no wide angle lens, and speaker on OP^ is pathetically horrible. And even though I prefer OLED screens, OP6 has the same screen that was already outdated for 3 years, the screen on the G7 is crystal clear and super bright. wasn't a hard choice for me, but this is my opinion.
Vinnie Madrox u should see other channels the throttling issues on lg g7 is very bad
I've got a G5. Hopefully gonna get the G7 next month.
I have a question and I think I would get many responses here: What is so wrong about LG UI? I don't find it bothering me at all since the age of LG G3, have been a big LG fan since then. I've used Samsung and the UI isn't that more impressive. Give me your thoughts
I think your right I have a G5 and I think its a great phone just needs a better battery situation I think the UI on LG phones are good.
I think people just want stock Android. Especially reviewers who go from one phone to the next. But, as wrong as it may sound, I personally love the LG skin.
Most of the reviewers say this line because others are saying. I personally don't see any issue with LG UI. Its much better than MIUI and has more features than stock UI.
Would you consider it worth it at 150.00???? Thinking about getting it..
Me and my wife got 2 lg g7s last month. Great phones, highly recommend. Ive own nearly all phones on iphone side and galaxy side. Lg always impresses me.
I just bought this one and the V30 both for $700. Can’t say no to this awesome deal
This phone marks my return to Android since the HTC G1 and I couldn't be more pleased. I don't miss the iPhone for a second and my fear of losing iMessage was for nothing. Way to go LG.
Does LG G7 have the smooth point to zoom on video like the LG V30?
Does it have VoLTE? I am using since a week and don't see option for VoLTE
Is there a way to turn off the shutter sound on the camera?
I've been considering this phone vs a galaxy s9+.
Right now I have s7 edge. I'm actually leaning more towards LG bc I want a slightly smaller phone. Also, I go to a lot of concerts and want a phone that takes awesome pics and vids... Any input?
Taking video at live concert and taking wide picture so g7 is the right pick trust me.
I was highly considering buying this phone but in my job I need a protective case. What I didn't realize was that the fingerprint reader is on the backside of the phone. Which is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of because, correct me if i'm wrong but, I can't use a case and use the reader at the same time. Super frustrating. Thanks for the review so I know now.
What I like about LCD screens is that they don't end up with image burns like the so called flahship phones do because they have amoled or oled screens.. thanks LG for THINQ-ing on that.👍🏽👌🏽
Just brought mine, after struggling with samsyng note 9 and LG
Of you listen to the top of the phone when you have audio, it almost sounds like a speaker on the top. Lg really did a cool thing with this "chamber".
I love this phone. So much so that I sold my note 8
Thank you so much I’m going to buy one today for $200 I was hoping the review would be as good as you made it!!Even though it is a little older now it’s still going to be just fine
From where are you buying for $200? I want to buy one myself. Thanks
Bought it off eBay mint condition 199.99..
Carlos Manuel Martinez I got it off eBay unlocked mint condition for 199.99.. just search Verizon lg g7
Just bought one new for $340 USD on eBay. This review definitely helped me make the decision!
On the camera and video department😕 lgv30 or lg g7 what phone will be better?
I was about to buy V30 but i holded because of front cam , now this...sold!
Two key features on this phone that you missed:
1. The RGBW matrix screen. The RGBW subpixel arrangement offers two benefits over other subpixel arrangements. One is that the white point is purer than other phones, as when it's rendering white, it's literally rendering white, rather than red green and blue all really close together that looks like white. The second and probably most important part is that it gets way brighter while consuming the same amount of energy as a typical display, meaning that if you set the brightness to be the same on this device and another device, this screen would consume way less energy. LCDs are inherently inefficient at letting light through, and adding a white subpixel allows for a much more efficient display, especially when viewing white or gray content. You can save upwards of 50% on your battery life just from this enhancement alone. It's why the G7 gets way better battery life than its battery size would indicate.
2. the HIFI quad DAC. The ES9218P DAC in the g7 is very well respected among the audio community. It offers quality that is actually pretty comparable to a stand alone DAC or audio interface that you would find for a computer. It offers excellent sound quality and can drive higher impedance headphones way easier than other smartphones. Not to mention that you don't need a bloody dongle to use wired headphones.
Other than those two omissions I thought it was a good review.
Have it, love it, much better then previous G series LG phones
Does it still have the removable battery?
Great review.
Good vid bro!!!
axel1978 Thanks!
