    I prefer phase 2A of the F train extension better than the previous plans because people who live in the Northeast area of Queens, NY like Douglaston, Little Neck, Bellerose, and Queens Village need more subway stations in their community.

      The F train proposal doesn’t come close to Little Neck and Douglaston, but rather serves Floral Park and Bellerose near the Nassau border, but otherwise, I am in agreement with you.
      Don’t worry about Fredrick Wells. His arguments aren’t valid and proposes really dumb ideas that no one likes, all while opposing common sense ideas proposed by myself, other rail enthusiasts, and even MTA themselves. Makes me think that he really isn’t a New Yorker and doesn’t ride mass transit a lot.

    Honestly it would be nice to see the F train extended along Hillside Avenue to Springfield Blvd and eventually Little Neck Pkwy. Not only would it provide better coverage in Southeast Queens but it could also, in tandem with a 7 train extension along Northern Blvd to Bell Blvd, create a bus network grid with crosstown bus routes that could go to places other than Jamaica and Flushing. With an extension to Little Neck Pkwy, there could also be some new bus routes on Winchester Blvd and Douglaston Pkwy to better link the F train and the LIRR.

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer Рік тому

      @NYC_Pokemon_Fan As much as I would love to do that, I feel that regional rail on PW is a complement rather than a replacement for the 7 subway along Northern Blvd, especially since the 7 along Northern would provide better transit connectivity to buses in NE Queens and coverage to other areas, especially LIC. Over the past few days I’ve also been privy to this idea of having the extension continue past Bell Blvd along Northern Blvd into Nassau County to the Great Neck LIRR station, and from there having it take over the LIRR Port Washington Branch to Port Washington (the entire branch in west of Great Neck would be abandoned). This could provide increased capacity, faster and more frequent service and enhanced connectivity in ways the PW Branch cannot and could potentially free up LIRR resources for other lines. Now the caveat to that is that additional infrastructure on both existing lines are required for this to work, and I’m talking about an double tracking the PW Line, quad tracking the Flushing Line east of Queensboro Plaza (which right now is an impossibility) for bi-direction express service, etc. Don’t even get me started with the bureaucracy. However it is something that should be looked into if we can all get our shit together and work together like grown adults.
      Speaking of the elevated structure at QBP, can we like clear up that elevated structure that’s full of old trackways or whatnot? It would be nice to condense that structure a bit and make it a tad bit nicer. Just saying.

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer Рік тому +1

      @NYC_Pokemon_Fan That’s a long term plan, and Regional Rail is no substitute for a subway expansion in many cases, including Northern. I would save Whitestone for another route sometime soon.

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer Рік тому +1

      @NYC_Pokemon_Fan True though extending the 7 does seem to have more benefits, like more frequent service, better accessibility, etc. Regional Rail on the PW Line would mostly be limited to every 10 minutes considering the need to share the tunnel with Amtrak and NJ Transit. The subway also has better connectivity with much of the rest of the city since the 7 makes a few more stops and connects with other lines (whereas a Regional Rail would only serve Penn Station or Grand Central).
      In fact both Regional Rail and a 7 subway extension on Northern Blvd would work in tandem together rather than one replacing the other, with the former speeding trips to Manhattan and the latter providing better intraborough connectivity. No reason for the two to not coexist with one another. In the end though, any Regional Rail system will still mostly be for suburban commuters.

    • @TMC_BC
      @TMC_BC Рік тому +1

      @@TheRailLeaguerRegional rail along the Port Washington Branch can run every 5 minutes, actually, in combination with through-running at Penn Station, with 6 TPH worth of space left for Amtrak intercity service. With European EMUs, it would act more like rapid-transit, but on a mainline railroad, with a subway-commuter hybrid seating layout. This would be sufficient for Northeast Queens, aside from a 7 Extension to Whitestone via College Point, and a Northern Blvd Subway connecting with regional rail at Auburndale. Converting outer-PW to subway operations isn’t smart, as the line east of Great Neck can be left alone as single-track (with trains running every 10 minutes). It is also much more cost effective, as the PW Branch would already be running similarly to a subway line (12 TPH vs. 15-18 TPH with your proposed 7 Extension). It also allows more capacity towards Whitestone and College Point, rather than being stuck on a branch line, meaning the neighborhoods can be built up to high density.

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer Рік тому

      @@TMC_BC Well that doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t be used in place of the 7 train extension to Bayside. Both are pretty useful (though I do have some intentions for it to take over Port Washington into Nassau County, ONLY if additional capacity and infrastructure improvements can be made).
      There’s also another issue for connectivity as the 7 train can reach areas that Regional Rail can’t, like additional locations within LIC, like Court Square.

    After watching this video, I definitely support this idea and there is some flavor that can be added to this idea. I was in Floral Park on Friday, just yesterday, and I realized for the F line, keep the both spur extensions,( One to 268th St/Langsdale St) to Bellerose, and (two to the LIRR Floral Park Station) to Floral Park via Tulip Ave, Jericho Turnpike/ Jamaica Ave and Braddock Ave. Now the flavor of this idea. Also since the Elmont UBS Arena is in existence, extend the J train from Jamaica Center to Floral Park via Archer Ave,93rd Ave, Jamaica Ave and via parallel to the LIRR where the J train can have a stop for the UBS Arena and it can connect to the F train and the LIRR at Floral Park as well. The J train will have 8 stops. After Jamaica Center, these stops are 168th At, 177th St, 184th St, 190th St(where connections can be made also to the LIRR), Francis Lewis Blvd, Hempstead Ave, Springfield Blvd(where connections can be made also to the LIRR), Elmont UBS Arena, Commonwealth Blvd and Floral Park Station, where Transfers can be made to the F train and the LIRR. This also when events are held at the UBS Arena, can reduce overcrowding on the LIRR, considering with parking being difficult at the UBS Arena, having a Subway line serving the UBS Arena will be a huge benefit for residents of the NYC 5 boroughs and as well as the residents of long Island as well. Something to share with Tech Transit Association

    If this does ever happen, It would be a good idea to have express service for the extension. Since the is only really express on Culver with the G, it would be a nice idea for it to also be on the Jamaica extension where the local F is, since there will be a lot of stops to be added if the extension does happen.

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer 6 місяців тому +1

      Given the frequency of the express service east of Union Turnpike, there’s no need for an express service on the extension. However what can be done is extending local service from Forest Hills to Jamaica-179th Street and having the F run express through this section, essentially remaining on the express tracks all the way. Since there are two local services, service frequencies at the local stops between those two points are increased.
      Essentially you’re trading four (75th Av, Briarwood, Sutphin Blvd, and 169th Street) stops for five (188th Street, 197th Street, Francis Lewis Blvd, 214th Street, Springfield Blvd).

    The 1939 plan would have been great. Hopefully, it is revisited since many Eastern Queens neighborhoods are transit deserts.
    Not only that, the Q46 would be less packed if the F was extended past 179th Street. That bus is a nightmare, especially during rush hour.
    The ideas from this video are genius.

    We should definitely build an extension along Hillside Avenue, towards Glen Oaks. The extension should continue using 4 tracks up until Cross Island Parkway, after which it’ll be 2 tracks running along Union Turnpike, towards Glen Oaks-260th Street. The R will stop at 75th Avenue, Briarwood, Sutphin Boulevard, and 169th Street while the F skips those stations entirely.
    Stations I propose:
    Hollis-188th Street (R)
    196th-197th Streets (R)

    Hollis Court Boulevard-212th Street (F)(R)

      The original plans for Queens Blvd called for no express zones between 179th and Springfield Blvd. In fact, the IND had local trains go to 179th Street with the express trains making all stops to there, and then make all stops to Springfield Blvd, so it would be better for the extension to be constructed as a two-track extension with no provisions for extra tracks.

    In my opinion, that extension probably should not go past Braddock Av due to the extremely-low amount of things you can work with in ridership, like commercial. I would extend the F up to Oakland Gardens just because that area is a somewhat dense housing project, and is good for an extension.

      I don't like the F train extending up to serve Oakland Gardens. That would make a more circuitous route than needed. Instead, a 7 train branch via the LIE would work better, as LIE is more dense, and more people in Bayside/Oakland Gardens are heading to Flushing and Manhattan, and the 7 serves both those areas.
      But, I agree that LIRR frequencies should be boosted and the City Ticket should be reduced to $2.75 (or $3 tops). People can already cover long distances on the subway for $2.75, so why can't they do it on the LIRR?

Having it extend to little neck parkway near Northwell hospitals and suburban areas proves useful. The buses on hillside Ave cause more traffic and congestion to an already congested street in rush hours. They should still build it (including a 212th St stop), and it should continue along Hillside to Little Neck Pkwy, demarcation lines be damned. Then make a right off Hillside to end/begin at the Floral Park LIRR station. Suburban Queens will only get denser, so the MTA would do well to plan for the future accordingly.

    For Phase 2, instead of extending in Nassau County to the Floral Park LIRR station, swing the line SSW off Braddock along the Cross Island Parkway right of way and end the line at Superior Road at the Elmont UBS LIRR station. It avoids the following:
    1) Going into Nassau County except for part of the walkway from the last stop to the LIRR station and connection to the arena and Belmont Park.
    2) It avoids tunneling under a large stretch of suburban homes until reaching Massachusetts Blvd. or a sharp curve from Jericho Tpk. onto Massachusetts Blvd.
    On the positive side:
    1) It brings you to a newer station on the LIRR with a larger commuter parking lot than at Bellerose.
    2) It brings you to a location (Belmont Park and UBS Arena) where more people from the rest of NY City would want to go.
    3) It brings you to a commuter lot with direct egress to both the northbound and southbound Cross Island Parkway, which means it would serve SE and NE Queens as well as Nassau County.
    4) A better location for the terminal station means more ridership, which in turn makes it more economically feasible.

Currently, local trains short-turn at Forest Hills via the yard tracks and express trains switch to the local tracks. This is due to low ridership further down the line. I completely agree. It is imperative that the F be extended to either Springfield or Little Neck Parkway. Yes, with all the new middle class housing development being constructed there, there will be more demand for a subway line expansion.
    I also think that a Union Turnpike line should be considered, but only until about Francis Lewis Blvd because beyond that is nothing but suburban development and park space. I just read an article that mentioned people complaining about long waits for the q46. From the Kew Gardens station until Francis Lewis blvd, there are lots of businesses on that corridor that could benefit from more reliable transportation other than the one bus.
    I will actually be trying to see this for myself on Sunday.

    My thoughts on the IND Hillside Avenue extension on the (F) Train is extended to Floral Park Atlantic Avenue/Caroline Place Station and be an Island platform with the end yellow rails, to connect the Long Island Rail Road. Also have the (G)/(R) Train's extend to Bellerose 251st Street/Little Neck Parkway Station to an 2 Island platforms, so that the (F) Train could continue to run express in Hillside Avenue except late nights. (G)/(R) Train's shouldn't be running in Queens Boulevard and Hillside Avenue Lines on late nights. The (E) Train should also be extend to Floral Park Atlantic Avenue/Caroline Place Station with the (F) Train during AM/PM Rush Hours and run Express in Hillside Avenue with the (F). (E)/(F) Train's can run Local in Queens Boulevard on late night service with the 6th Avenue (M) Train to The Rockaway's with the (A) Trian at all times, for Queens Link on The Rockaway Beach Branch. The (F) can run Local in Hillside Avenue on the late night service by itself. The (G)/(R) run Local in Hillside Avenue/Queens Boulevard except late night. The (F) run Express in Hillside Avenue expect late night.

My favorite is extending today's Q39, which MTA wants to replace with a faster Q67 with fewer stops, to Broadway Junction, an idea that I tried to make feasible by suggesting a busway on Halsey Street so that this extension takes 15 minutes to drive instead of 30, like on today's winding B20.)

      I guess the question is whether people who take this route want either the B52 and B54, or the B60 and all the transit connections (and development coming soon) at Broadway Junction. But also I think small extensions to the B52 and B54 would be good, to further help with Brooklyn-Queens connectivity. One can run to where the Q39 terminates today and relieve the Q55, and the other can go to Metro Mall for even more bus connections.

    I would like to see a #7 extension than an "F" extensions. Because how much more difficult it would be on train crews.
    This is where a super express should come in as it would be both beneficial to train crews and passengers. No work crew should be on a train for 2 plus hours without time for bathroom breaks. It is just really, really unfair to them!

      Currently the line between Coney Island and 179 St is an hour and 40 minutes, according to publicly available schedules. I think Phase 1 would add no more than 10 minutes to the runtime. Phase 2B, on the other hand, makes me worry a bit. Maybe running the F express in Brooklyn full-time (and aggressively increasing frequencies on the G, which would be fully deinterlined by this point) would help keep it under 2 hours, assuming no further delays - which… ehh 😅 we have to talk about Coney Island now.

      You would have to add more trains to the system, which has been done ever since a massive transit scheme has been laid. The IND came with Arnines, the 1951 Bond Measure that would have funded the Second Ave Subway came with R11s, and the Program for Action came with the R44s.

    You know we could potentially replace the LIE with a new subway running along a restored Hoarce Harding Blvd up to Springfield Blvd and eventually to Little Neck.
    Though I have a twist in this one. The new line will be four tracks. Two tracks, will be a branch of the Queens Blvd Line. However, it would be the other set of tracks, a branch of the Crosstown Line), that would begin service first. Starting at Bedford-Nostrand Avenue, this line would head east under Lafayette Avenue with a stop at Throop Avenue. From there, it would turn northeastward along DeKalb Avenue with stops at Broadway, Myrtle-Wilson Avenues, Wyckoff Avenues, and Seneca Avenues. After that, it would swing over to Flushing Avenue and make stops at Metropolitan Avenue and then Fresh Pond Road before it shifts briefly along Borden to 69th. After a brief stint along Caldwell Avenue, it would then stop at 80th Street before heading up via Eliot Avenue and Woodhaven Blvd to Queens Blvd.
    At Queens Blvd, it would then meet up with the two tracks from the Queens Blvd Line to form a four track line along the LIE/Hoarce Harding corridor with stations at strategic connection points with the bus network. Along this corridor, there would be an express station at Junction Blvd followed by local stations at 99th Street, 108th Street, (potentially) College Point Blvd, and then Main Street, followed by an express station at Kissena Blvd, serving Queens College. From there there would be local stations at 164th Street, Fresh Meadows Lane, and an express station at 188th Street. Following there are local stations at Francis Lewis Blvd, Oceania Street, and an express station at Springfield Blvd, near Queensborough Community College. This is where local service ends. Express service then continues East along the corridor, with a stop at Hampton Blvd, and from there the line rises on a two track concrete elevated structure a la Airtrain for the next stops at Douglaston Pkwy, Marathon Pkwy, and eventually the terminal at Little Neck Pkwy.
    The two branching tracks from the Queens Blvd Line would actually be dependent on the conversion of the Woodhaven Blvd station into an express station, something that is really, really needed (why this station wasn't built as an express station from the getgo is beyond me). Reportedly, this would involve rerouting the local tracks outward with the side platforms becoming the island platforms. This essentially should create some space for two tracks to diverge from both the local and express tracks to ramp downwards to a lower level and curve to the LIE Line.
    Ultimately, the LIE Line should be looked as a third priority corridor for Eastern Queens, though that Crosstown branch on Lafayette and DeKalb could start construction first to fill in a gap in the subway network since the Myrtle Avenue Elevated was torn down. As for eastern Queens, the first two extensions that should be done is the extension of the Flushing Line eastward along Northern Blvd to Bell Blvd and the Queens Blvd Line extension to Springfield Blvd as well as the (E) train extension along the LIRR Atlantic Branch to Francis Lewis Blvd in Rosedale (rather than Springfield Blvd in Laurelton in the original plans). These three extensions would help simplify service on the (7) route, increase capacity on the (E) route, and provide better coverage in Eastern Queens. With these three extensions, many bus routes would be realigned to no longer serve Flushing and Jamaica, but rather better connect Northeast and Southeast Queens.
    As for the other corridors like Union Turnpike, Hollis Avenue and Linden Blvd those corridors would be a later priority since they are a part of larger plans to replace elevated structures in Brooklyn and Queens.

    2 tracks just doesn't feel ideal as they can still use the 4 tracks there's nothing wrong with using preexisting tracks as lets be for real it makes no sense to make 2 tracks and just have the F alone so why not let G go further I don't care if others don't like as just feels filler.

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer 3 дні тому

      The local tracks at 179 become relay tracks, leaving only express service that can continue to Springfield Blvd. With this configuration, having four tracks east of 179 would result in stations seeing less than ideal service frequencies. Besides, for the Queens Blvd subway extension, F service at 15 trains per hour is enough.
