- The shimmy is one of belly dance's most quintessential movements. There are literally dozens of beautiful shimmies in the belly dance vocabulary and a well-trained dancer will learn to perform and utilize many of them.

Glad it was helpful! Slow and steady drilling will help. Also be sure to keep your knees soft and your center of gravity low with the shimmy.

where did you get your shawl?
For the "fluff" that many refer to here, I wld suggest, from own experience, to first engage i abs/hip/pelvic muscle stretches and strengthening exercises to more safely AND effectively indulge in belly dancing... like first training cardio and legs before running the marathon...
