- "My Pony Boy" was written by Charlie O'Donnell in 1909 and Lyrics were supplied by Bobby Heath. With the advent of the movies, one genre was clearly gaining in popularity. It was Westerns. It was frequently used in Western movies and cartoons. Florenz Ziegfeld knew what sold and early in his stage productions, he had this song interpolated into his show. The verse sounds like a tongue twister, but the chorus is so simple that it was a favorite of children too. The first verse explains that the central character of the song has many female admirers; but the second shows that the "Fluffy Ruffle Girl" has won his heart. In the 1931 "Krazy Kat" short "Rodeo Dough", a female sings the song after Krazy wins a rodeo event. Even Bruce Springsteen included a modified version as the last song on his 1992 album "Human Touch".
OUTSTANDING Performance!!! Period correct and "CUTE" Persona!!
Mom sang this to me in the 40s. Never forgot the song. Memories...
My mother would sing this to me every morning until I was four or five. Until today I hadn't heard in a very long time.
Made me tear up a bit, my grandpa used to bounce me up and down on his leg and sing the chorus to me. He passed away over 7 years ago. I'd give anything to have him sing it to me again.
I had a grandmother who did the same. I'm just here becuse I guess I needed to cry today.
My grandma did the same
My grandfather did the EXACT same thing !
Tears of longing. If we could only make life go by slowly and be present for every moment, there would be no need for tears.
My five month old loves this song he can't get enough of it
Fantastic and thank you. My mother is gone now but a wonderful memory is of her singing it to my brother when he was a baby and she sang it while bouncing him on her knee!
Like some of the other people who commented I never had heard the whole song before now. The chorus was sung to me long ago by my great uncle who was lived from 1902 to 1985. He said it was one of the songs he remembered hearing as a young child. I honestly thought this song was too obscure to find on Google, but obviously I was wrong. Great job singing it- great song, and it brought back memories for me. Thanks!
We had a little 78 rpm record with a picture of a child cowboy, little horse and lasso. A male singer sang the song. I played it over and over. I can't recall what was on the other side of the record.
My grandmother used to sing this while bouncing me on her knee. I looked this up so I could find out the lyrics so I could do the same for my daughter once she gets a bit bigger. Thanks for the blast from the past.
thawhiteazn Daughter just sent to me this video for a blast from past, because I bounced her on my knee when she was little. Great song!
+thawhiteazn My great grandmother used to do the same! She would throw us off at "Whoa Pony Boy". Must have been a thing!

My mother also song this to me, chorus only, and she did it when she bounced me on her knee. This is one of my very 1st, 1st memories and it makes me fall in love with her all over again just hearing it! Thank you for your rendition. It has brightened my day!
We love you!! Been looking for this and you did it. My 16 month old grandson & I watch you numerous times every day. Thank you so much.
My mom sang this to me as a lullaby - slowed down and just the chorus. I have never heard the full version until now. Thank you!
I love the woman who is singing, she looks like she's having a ball!
Lovely lady...nice song and interpretation!
When I was a kid the Jack Arthur version was popular on the radio station my folks like to listen to. The 1st song I could sing along with.
The chorus of this song was covered by Sharon Hampson, of Sharon, Lois & Bram, on the album Mainly Mother Goose.
I have always liked this song. I love how you sing it at a faster tempo. Makes you want to sing it while bouncing a kid on your knee.
Can I just say that my partner and I have not been able to stop singing this song since we heard it a month ago? This rendition is my favorite. Great work and we love the other videos, too. I like the thought put in to the costumes and background. Thank you for taking the time to make this!
This is the first time I ever heard this song with all the lyrics. You do a great job with it. I just recently learned that sometime around 1930 Bobby Heath was a guest at my grandparents' house. I'm not sure how this came about, as my grandfather had no connections in show business. As near as I can piece together from what my father told me when he was ninety years old, my grandfather met Heath at the Elks Club in Keene, NH and brought him home. I imagine they'd had a few drinks at the Elks.
Sirst time I ever heard this was on n album of songs by Rusty Draper
Too too charming! Whoa!
You are great!
i thought this was some kind of made up song in my family until i googled it and found you! now i can sing the whole thing to my little pony boy while vivaciously trotting him on my knee! :)
Similar. One of my grandparents, don't remember which, all of whom were born in the 19th century, went around singing this.
Hehehe I have a pony! And that was good!
AGAIN... You are *SO* Cute! If I had a Million $$$, I'd give you all of it to PROMOTE your Talent!!!
