Song 1: Section 8 by my band Whitechapel
Song 2: Dead Silence by my band Whitechapel
This video contains only my original content.
Eye contact is huge. I saw you guys in Cincinnati twice, and after crowd surfing at the second concert, you were leaning over on the ego riser and doing a guttural, and I saw you stare me down and follow me off to the side of the barricade, and it pumped me up so much. You're a huge inspiration, man!
Damn that's sick
I dont mean to be so off topic but does any of you know a way to log back into an Instagram account??
I was dumb forgot my login password. I love any tips you can give me
@Leonel Ryker Instablaster :)
@Zane Cassius thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm in the hacking process now.
Takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Zane Cassius it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my account !
"Don't hide behind the drummer or behind a curtain."
Almost every Tool show, lol xDD
The music takes centre stage for their live shows though 😜
why am i watching this, i am a drummer
Da Max lmao
It's ok, for example Lars Ulrich thinks he's the frontman, and the tips actually help musicians aswell with stagepresence and crowdinteraction :)
Same haha
Because we have ideas and dreams above our station.
Lmao
Randy Blythe is an awesome front man. Paces back and forth WHILE looking at the crowd.
Looks like he wants to kill every half the time lol
He has killed a guy from the crowd...lol. Jk
+The123dylan123 it was by accident though
Yeah but Phil is giving great advice. Appreciate it
I'm so fucking in love with Phil
Much respect for sharing knowledge. Good job young man!
Ive never played a live show before but when i am just practicing vocals i put my foot on a chair or box, really makes me feel more comfortable about being loud and being myself
Dude, I cannot emphasize how helpful you are being and I would also like to add that in my opinion you are the nicest guy in the whole metal 'scene'. I mean, this video plus your guttural demonstrations and vocal tips are something unique, and shows that you are willing to share your secrets with all of us, who are on the other side of the fence, dreaming about being in your shoes.
I watch your guttural demonstration every day in order to motivate myself and practice.
Thank you.
2:16 the ears are talking to me. 2 black circles
This really helped me out a lot I'm a nervous guy who's never played on stage before so this made me think better thank Philly bo :)
Okay I’m gonna get hate for this but Oliver Sykes was a good front man, he was engaged and moved a lot and was fun to watch
W-I-I-I-TECHAPEL
wihtchapel
Chainsawchapel
Haha funny.... in dutch Bozeman means: Angry man. It's meant to be!! :p
Dude, I could not agree more with the things you said. Especially the (what I refer to as) "ego box" I noticed my personal stage presence go way up over that one thing, and some other members of the band will walk up to it and put their foot on it to add alittle to their own presence.. Great video man!
Lmao when he turned around & said the intro again. For some reason i about died lol
I'm a drummer, and have only played a few live shows, but a lot of these tips can be helpful for every musician in the band. Sitting behind the drums, you'd think there's not much presence that could be emphasized besides headbanging, but the movement really matters. It makes it a lot more entertaining to watch when all the musicians have energy and movement on stage, and you can hear it in the music when they're putting 100% into playing and having fun.
Great comments from one of the industry's best; thanks Phil! I've been a vocalist for almost 6 years now and I never stop trying to learn new tricks and perfect old ones to better my craft. Glad to know I'm on the right track!
Thanks Phil, you're a great model.
This video showed me, that I'm on a good way to become a good vocalist on stage and pushed also my self confidence!
I'm sure that your honesty helps people (also like me) to forget their self-doubts and keeps them working straight ahead.
Thanks!! You're a great human!
I'm a guitar player and even these tips can be applied to some of my behavior on stage! Every big musician should be as committed to the fans ad you are man, thank you very much!
Blink-182 is a huge inspiration for me in stage presence, I absolutely love the jokes
I've got the same with Sum 41 :D. I love Deryck's jokes with Sum 41 salute - 4 fingers and middle finger on the second hand :D. And so many many things...
phil i have been a huge Chapel fan since late 2007. and you and ben and the rest of whitechapel are th best musicians in my time cheers bud
i dont have a band :( hahahaha but i wanna be in band as a frontman but i just didnt find the right people so if i ever be in a band i will try this tips :D
same problem xD i only have a bass player
Tip for you then. Don't limit yourself to just your friends. Make acquaintances with people you know that you know can play and talk to them about it. Chances are if they're a musician, they're looking to start a group. I didn't know half of my band when we started and we're pretty tight with only a few practice sessions.
Third time I saw white chapel Phil was up there like a possessed puppet on strings. It was the coolest thing ive ever seen a frontman do
Phil this advice really helps!! Thank you for giving these tips!
I've ALWAYS said Phil is one of my favorite front man because of his body language and the way he kind of creeps around the stage. Really go for it if you're feeling it!!!
Thank you so much Phil..
Actually i sing and im a shy guy actually on stage and sometimes i get nervous before a few of my performance. And i think your words may help me and i wanna be a frontman of a metal band
THANK YOU SOOO mUCH! I WAS searching for a video like this and yours is the only one i found! and thats absolutely enough for me! god bless you for sharing your knowledge! you have proved that you are a true musician!
These videos are so helpful for an aspiring vocalist like myself. Thanks Phil! :)
Great piece of advice there from one of the best guys to give advice on the subject! Thanks for taking the time Sir!
This was some seriously good material. Thanks much Phil. Really did help out. Wish you still did these kind of vids.
I love your advice about looking up live videos and taking notes of how they command a crowd.
Yep, I think it'll help me a lot on stage! Thank you :)
Very helpful video! thank you so much for sharing these tips!
Thanks for making this video, it's explained to me what was missing in my stage presents. I'm always awkwardly trying to find something to put my foot up on on stage and i always try to make myself look taller and like i'm the centre of attention so i really need something to help, much respect for explaining about Ego Risers! Definitely copping one!
Actually, one thing I don't think you covered is during an instrumental/solo, I found it does the band good to turn and give them some eye contact. Make sure they're enjoying it and make sure they know you're enjoying it. It really shows trough to a crowd when the whole band is lovin' it.
Eye contact is one of the things I need to work on the most, when my band plays shows I have a tendency to close my eyes when I'm singing, I rarely make eye contact with anyone, only between songs, thanks for the pointers
this was very helpful and also interesting since it's coming from someone who's been doing this stuff for a while
keep em coming, even if it's not something to use "directly" it's still very insightful of how things actually works in the whole "music thing"
I just sent this to my band's vocalist. And I hope he listens because these were great tips and it would help our show greatly if he listened to you Phil. Thanks for the help bro. \M/
Thanks for going out of your way to make these awesome vids!
It really makes sense about the whole pacing around thing. We have videos of our first show on here and our vocalist claims to have been "not nervous at all," but he was pacing around the whole time and it just looks funny. Gotta film our next show after these tips and see if the stage presence has improved. Keep up the good work Phil, quality stuff man.
You are so good man! Thank you so much for ur advices. Specially the no.1 tip- be confident:) thanks a lot
I've played a couple shows and this is actually going to help me a lot i used to pace back and fourth even while the song was going and i would notice the crowd wasn't really doing anything but now i know what i gotta do and i'll hopefully take control of the crowd the first time my new band gets on stage!!! Thanks phil you're the shit!!!!
Mitch Lucker = Best Frontman ever. RIP Brother. Thanks for the tips Phil.
Thank you so much, Phil. And yea the tip on the Ego Riser is true. I feel a lot more comfortable doing my vocals on stage with my leg on a monitor or a box or whatever.
thanks phillybo it helped me talk to the crowd and know what I want to say between each song.
you make every thing sooo clear and it helps!!!!!
as a frontmen i always find these tips helpfull ! keep them coming ! thanks !
i'm not even really into your band but you're awesome for having this channel and doing these videos
I always have been a shy guy myself, but when you 're up there, you do what you gotta do, and we need to put that in mind, and give all the energy necessary to a good show. We live for the music, and pratice for that moment, you gotta do it. But it takes time yeah. One step at a time.
Awesome vid, loved it!
'85 power! ;)
Great details. Love the ego riser as I am a frontwoman in a band of 4 tall guys!!! Completely agree! I do tell jokes, throw goodies and giveaways into the audience that pair with our songs and make the them smile...it's all about creating the experience for the fans. Thanks Phil
If you have any vocal tips or music recording tips I'd love to hear them as an aspiring artist!
@@quitreadingth1s4 for me or phil? LOL this is his channel. Mine is ua-cam.com/channels/WE3n8VaMe5Peifxle48qew.html. Anyway my main tip is work hard , find your style, learn from the best and have a target goal.
Hey man i took your advices and all of them worked extremely well.
Thanks keep up the amazing work SHIZZLE
thanks for the advice
It's amazing. We had our first gig last Saturday, me being frontman, and I'd consider myself rather shy as well. But the second I stepped on that stage it was like I was another man. Those tips really helped. I hope the next gig is on soon and I'll be able to try out more.
I probably won't try that ego riser thing. Considering I'd most likely hit my head on the ceiling then.. lol
Phill your such a cool guy i hope to meet you one day..love everything you do for us new frontman...keep up the good work and all the help you give us out here..
The vids are great man, keep em coming.
Thank you so much for the video. Am brand new at this frontman thing and am searching for guidance. This was a great step.
I just wanted to say thank you. This helped me a lot with shows.
This is awesome. Thanks for sharing
i love your videos phil thank you. i look up to you. your an amazing vocalist and crazy performer. im a front man in my band and these tips help. KEEP THE WORLD MOSHING! Whitechalpe style\m/
Phil, I'm fairly confident that you could post a video talking about absolutely anything, and I'd listen.
This is great!
I had no idea you had a UA-cam channel.
Going to check out more videos!
u guys are awesome!!!!! i hope to see u guys live one day. shout out from west tn
thank you for making these dude.
You're a very great man Phil, no one make videos about this topic, but i really need this kindof information, Thank you very much. And if you have time or something i really appreciate if you make more videos with frontman tips! Thanks
This has DEFINATELY been helpful. Keep doing what you're doing! Please!! lol
Hellyeah loving the videos man keep em comin
Perfect tips!
Great advise man. I'm gona put these tips to good use!
I don't have a rider yet, but fro now I'm using a chair or a bucket or whatever I can find to stand and also put my foot on.
When I do put my foot on it it helps with my gutturals so much cause I can kinda lean and telt a little bit, but thank you Phill, big inspiration since Mitch died, love you man
I think Phil needs to watch an Amenra show once. The frontman is ALWAYS standing with his back towards the audience and never talks, but they are so interesting to watch.
Hey Phil! Thanks for taking my idea and making a video. 8) Very helpful info.
Very beneficial and very well said.
I remember seeing you guys at Warped Tour 2010 in Las Cruces, NM. you guys and SUICIDE SILENCE were the best at WARPED TOUR that year.... R.I.P. MITCH!!!
Ego riser is a big tip
Thank you Phil ! Greetings from Chile
Dude nice tips and stuff, very helpful
Really solid tips man, I'm no expert on 'frontmanship' but it's something I study to better myself. I sing for a soul band so I looked at James Brown, Otis Redding, Sam & Dave etc. But these tips fit perfectly for any singer I think. I was gonna add that if you see something to climb, climb it! But you covered that, haha! For some reason people love to see you up high, it's entertaining I guess.
Yo! Philly Bo! this video is totally helpful! You're literally spelling out the tricks of the trade muh dude!
I really don't care about being a better showman (I'm the fucking drummer, the most irrelevant member or the band after the bassist (unless you're Victor Wooten or Alex Webster)) but this is very interesting, especially because it's explained by Phil Bozeman :D
I agree with what you said about this cause its awesome and I am actually a frontman so maybe im wrong here, but I was actually the bassist in my old band and my current drummer and I are best friends. If theres one thing ik is that no one in a band is irrelevant. You cant do a show without a singer anymore than you can without a drummer or a bassist or a guitarist. You need everyone to provide the same sound onstage that you do in the studio. So not trying to start an argument with you im just saying that you should have some pride because people like drummers and bassists don't get a lot of the glory outside of the band but they sure as hell get it from inside :)
thats not true drummers determine the sound kind of the better the drummer the better the band 😁
Idk.....Tommy Lee sure made himself known..among others
Boh Ciao what’s funny is the drummer deserves more attention, not being a drummer, but they are kinda the most important member when it comes to the sound.
Drummers are awesome and extremely important
Can't wait to see yall in Dallas on 4/20!!!
This was great!!
all of this is so true! the one thing I find a little hard is to make eye contact with people either when I'm playing guitar or singing, I guess that's because I'm a little shy in general, but I'll get over it
Cool video! More people should make videos like this, I think a lot of people need to learn this kind of stuff haha. So thanks for this!
Thanks for your tips, they will help me to get a better entertainer as a vocalist! :D
You're the man Phil I wish I could see you with asking alexandria on that insane upcoming tour but no cali date
Great tips for a rap show aswell thanks man
You're a huge inspiration to me, Phil!
I'm a shy girl who has an obnoxiously loud singing voice, and I'll probably sing for a punk rock band soon, needless to say I'll be hella nervous...never done anything like it...so this really helped me I feel like I won't fail completely. Also Whitechapel is the SHIT, I can't wait to see them in seattle!!!
So helply full
thanks again phil, when you slither on stage you look badass and awesome
its real cool that you got a youtube channel dude. i always wanted to know what you were like and you seem like a real cool dude. hope to see you at a show someday =D
great tips!
I hope to be a metal singer in the future. Thanks for the tips
Phil please make more tip videos, I love them
Dude you are awesome.
That's great, thanks, Phil!
Thanks man. I need this cuz im goin on stage tomorrow. Its rap but still.. same rules apply. Thank you dude
Great tips
Wow man, this is really cool of you.
Vocal tips don't mean much to me since I'm always looking up things, but these frontman tips are GREAT and something that'll really pay off when my band starts doing shows. Keep up the great vids!
