I had a lawn care company for 25 years. If these UA-cam videos by Mike were around when I started, I would be on an island somewhere today drinking martinis with my pinky up$$$. My nephew just started his lawn company and I sent him Mikes info so he can learn.

Mike. Do you know how much you are helping people? If so, what metrics do you use to quantify? But seriously, stellar info brother. Thank you.

Depends on the area of the country you live in, never work in central Florida, bushes grow almost weekly same with weeds, it’s constant maintenance except for Dec-March

When you do a mowing estimate from square footage, what happens if the yard is overgrown? I've found most of my new customers have significantly overgrown concrete edges that require debris removal (sod over the walkways/driveway) and will double or triple the budgeted hours for the first service. Should I just be charging an "initial service" fee to every estimate?

That’s exactly what I do, started last year and worked great.

Hey Mike, another great video full of useful information. How do you price mowing services by square footage without knowing the time it may take? Do you know approximately the time it takes per 1000 square foot to mow(based off minimum rates) then adjust price accordingly after tracking the times? Any Info would help. Thanks

You have to know what you're mowing with. The width of the deck, the speed of the mower will equate to how much it can cut in an hour (under ideal conditions) that's your ball park. So a 21in mower, at 3mph = so many acres an hour. There's calculators online to give you a ballpark

What I do is measure the lawn when they begin service, then time it each visit. At the end of the month or year average it up and base your pricing on the averages. You do this a few times and you’ll know exactly. It’s easier to do gross lot size, or the total property size.

@@waylonratcliffe Thanks for the reply. That's our method as well to price accordingly.

@@lawnnyardsllc8090 awesome! My problem has been leaves making the lawns take longer than expected, trying to reduce complexity this season.

@@waylonratcliffe We charge extra for leaf removal. Price per catcher full or per tarp full with disposal fees if needed plus mowing price. Some cities allow leaves to be left at the curb so no disposal fee just a leaf removal charge for extra time it takes to mow. i.e $30 mowing price plus $15 for a tarp of leaf removal would be $45 for that weeks service.
