  • West Papua is a province under Indonesian rule and has been plagued by violence and unrest for decades. The Indonesian military is accused of widespread human rights abuses and hundreds of thousands of people are thought to have died in the conflict and many more have been displaced.
    In this extended interview, The Pacific's Johnson Raela and Alice Lolohea sit down with West Papuan activists Raki Ap and Koteka Wenda who attended the 13th Festival of Pacific Arts and Culture (FestPAC) held in Hawai'i in June 2024. Although West Papua wasn’t formally part of the FestPAC delegations, they both made sure their homeland was not forgotten in the biggest celebration of Pacific arts and culture.
