I already love the regular Q&A sessions, but this one was really great getting direct info from people even closer to the development of the sim. As a (former) software developer myself, I am really blown away by the tech of the sim. When I seriously started simming back FS2002, we basically had no info at all from MS/Aces. There was a new version every couple of years, and silence otherwise. The constant flow of sim and world updates has kept me entertained for the last few years. Add to that the 3rd party ecosystem, and we have not just a game or sim, but a hobby that keeps on improving all the time..
I design Farm strips which are all grass. I find it very difficult using the existing grass textures to make the airfields correct as it's too dense and long, what I would like in the new 2024 SDK is a short grass texture if that's possible. Neil Birch
Hmm...that means that A2A aircraft may not work in MSFS24, and that concerns me(but something tells me that they are already looking at this). While I did not ask those questions about tail rotors or the different rotor head types, this is something that should be added. Tail rotors add lateral thrust to a helicopter in flight and in a hover this can push the aircraft to the side requiring opposite cyclic to counter the drift. Another unique helicopter issue is airflow across the tail boom. Older helicopters have a certain amount of lift generated by the airflow, and thus pressure, differential causing yaw in the direction of lower pressure. This has been alleviated with tail boom strakes that act like a spoiler to reduce that pressure difference. Tail rotor blanking is another issue for older helicopters, this is what the "Fast Fin" question was referring to. The "Fast Fin" reduces weight but it also decreases blanking resulting in greater tail rotor authority in the hover. As for the different types of rotor heads, there should very much be a difference in how they are handled because they behave very differently in real life. The Huey with it's semi-rigid rotor head flies very differently to an Bell 407 with it's fully articulated rotor head and it is still different from the Bo-105 with its rigid rotor system. these are just examples I am using there are others out there that can be used, I am just using some of the most well known aircraft.
If so it would be very alarming. I want the best of both worlds (a2a accusim 2.0 with the New wear sim for tires and so on added). It seems there is quote some work ahead.
