- Two Months ago my roommate drunkenly lost my small drone on a neighbors roof. Two months later after upgrading to a larger drone I attempted a rescue of the smaller drone using hooks I made from coat hangers. Here is the result.
Also would like to add that access to the roof wasn't possible
which lead me to this haha.
Music used in this video is from Interstellar and the track is called "No time for caution" by Hans Zimmer"
Drone rescued was a Syma X5C and the drone that rescued it was a DJI Phantom 3 Professional.

Youbones well i used VHS cassettes when i was like 4. and i loved the insertion sound. DVDs ruined the magic. love how they reflect light tho. however im not really amazed by anything, any effects, any revolution in computer technology (oh, look, IBM is using new materials to produce computer processors 4 times more powerful. "and what" oh, look, 1TB of RAM is only 1k usd now, you wont need that many RAM in your life. "and what". i guess i was a little pumped when there was a 1 billion picture of andromeda. but nothing really amazes me at this point. pretty sad. maybe just the age.

I like how the right hook did nothing for the whole video until the ending. Towards the ending, the right hook is like "Oh, shoot! He sees me, make it look like you did something, make it look like you did something." *proceeds to latch on the drone at the last second* "NAILED IT."

The description says there was no access. He very awesomely used another drone to perform a rescue. But instead of congratulating him, you want to shame him for not using a ladder which he said was NOT POSSIBLE!

Mulinaster I would rather no marines storm the building. Plus drone strikes only protect the marine lives but they put many of the innocent civilians lives at risk.
Peacecraft I know exactly what drones do and how they work. They are a great tool for surveilling people and attacking them with little to no warning. They save tons of american soldiers lives but they put the innocents civilians at risk. They are a great tool but they have been greatly abused.
featherman9 Congratulations you watch the news! You have heard about armed UAVs and what are capable of. They and many other UAVs do much more than kill radical jihadits and cause collateral damage. They can recon convoy routes, they can look for IEDs, they can find specific people using tools you have never even dreamed of. They have been used so much because they are a whole lot cheaper and much more safe than say flying an F-16 overhead to drop bombs. When drones arnt around or available guess who takes up the job? Manned aircraft. These "people" that you cry about dont deserve a damn warning because they would kill you and everyone you know if only they had the chance. Armed UAVs target Jihadists. It sucks that civilians will sometimes be killed. There isnt anything worse than watching innocents die and not being able to do a damn thing about it. But guess what? ITS A WAR. CIVILIANS DIE. Drones DO save lives in the military. They kill Jihadists for the boots on the ground so they dont have to risk themselves even further. They take out high value targets (like bomb makers) which in turn saves more lives. If you just watch the news and read articles written by people who have never even been in a combat zone then dont take it as the one and only fact about "drones".

I did something similar at a small dam near a mates place. My amphibious micro icon-a5 ran out of battery as it was taxing back to shore, after some laffs from my onlookers at my predicament I looked at my remaining batteries and what else I had with me. Ended up sending a chopper out over the lake to hover around the stranded plane, pushing it back in with the wash. Most nerve wracking flight I've had.
Well done to the drone pilot and the skillful hookup.

Awesome Rescue. I just lost my Wifes X5C two nights ago over a mobile home park. I searched all over and it has to be on top of one of those flat roofs. I have an X8C but I am not going to look for it until I get more flight experience. I just got into the hobby. I was flying it low and it went up 25 feet and the wind picked up and took the X5C away like a sheet of paper. I lost communication with it and watched it go down, I should have killed the remote right away and it would have dropped closer to me. Or put it in headless mode. I am sick about it. I bought my Wife another X5C. I hope I am Lucky enough to make the same Rescue soon. Thanks for posting.
You can do it man! What really helped was a live video feed but for error I put multiple hooks on a line and dragged it over my target. I believe in you! If you make a video post it and send it to me!

Imagine if this one got stuck up there too. Then he'd have to buy an even bigger one, that would also get stuck so he'd have to upgrade again, untill finally he's down to military grade transport vehicles trying to get the giant pile of drones off the roof
I was expecting the epic Interstellar music to be a joke. Like the music abruptly cuts off and the drone falls loose off the hook onto another building, tree or the ground and just gets completely obliterated - all on camera of the second drone.
Twist ending, the drone he sent to rescue the crashed drone was actually a drone that crashed on that roof originally, and the one he rescued was the first drone sent to rescue the other one, which crashed while rescuing the drone that then went to rescue the rescue one.
I love how the unaware cyclist at 1:13 and 1:36 misses out on this beautiful moment in time.
