Van life is an awesome way of living. Being able to park up your home on wheels anywhere you want just gives such a sense of freedom. But unfortunately this lifestyle, especially wild camping, is not always appreciated by everybody...

@RICHLIFE OF ROADTRIPS I’m in Commiefornia lol. We have some BLM land and state land but you can’t just pull over anywhere. Also years back when I was city dwelling they harassed me and gave me a $100 ticket plus I had to go to court for it because they were going to charge me like it was a serious crime. Cities we’re still obviously much harder. I love the mountain life now. So if I ever do a van build I’d stay away from cities and towns except when I need to replenish. Some beautiful country where your at though. We have a lot of beautiful country here to but most people think we’re just LA and San Francisco. Speaking of LA and SF. They’re letting homeless take over everywhere and they’re letting vans and RV’s take over everywhere now.
So some areas it’s a free for all and some areas you get hassled. I was in a 32’ jalopy RV when I got the ticket and it was a quiet industrial area that was abandoned. I had a Dodge Caravan at one time too.
I’m staying in a house in the mountains now and love it. But I need to get out there soon. I’m looking to get a 4x4 van to get back out there and enjoy more nature and less city. Even though I live in a beautiful place. There’s still to many neighbors and adventure is always calling
I'm from the states...midwest...I was friendly with my neighbor, he invited me to have a beer and I accepted. He's talking about what he wants to do with his life... when it was my turn to talk, I mentioned that I wanted to break free of conventional living and buy a RV. I have been weeding stuff I don't need anymore and I planned to put everything in there. Plus, I wanted to become a digital nomad...work from anywhere. He shot it down so fast my head was spinning. He went on a rant about how it's a stupid idea and I didn't have the skill set, and that it would be a whole set of problems. I responded that there's always problems everywhere, I can always learn new things and that a lot of good and smart people do it everyday. I was like, " He's just a neighbor I see every once in a while...who does he think he's talking to in regards to my skill set? I excused myself and came across this channel. I have lived in a vehicle before... did just fine. I feel conventional life is stifling and I want to break free. Don't let anyone tell you what or how to live life. You can be anything you want to be. BTW, I'm moving forward with buying my perfect RV....soon I will be a gentleman of the open road. Wish me luck! #Undaunted!

It is becoming a popular idea, that's for sure. I'm 77 now...but back in the 70's I built a 55' three mast schooner and sailed about 50K miles the next 12 years....then moved ashore and operated a hot air balloon scenic flight business for 25. In there somewhere was 10 years as a fireman, A USCG license to operate a ship docking tugboat and a bunch of other stuff. My wife and I chose not to have kids but to have a life, instead. Here's wishing you a good sailing breeze...over the quarter. -Veteran '66-68
Go for it. Shake the neighborhood dust from your shoes and start your new life of adventure. Remember the world is full of crab people who want to pull you back when you start to climb out of a dull repetitive life. I'm sure the great Pioneers heard the same negative comments as they left New England for California.
Well, he has good points but stop listening to people. Also, never tell them your plans, this stuff is likely to happen again. Just do stuff. I retired at 45. Just listen to yourself and do your thing. Now everyone wants to listen to me on how I did it. Life is like that
If you don't have kids that you are responsible for then go for it!!! You will pick up the skill sets you need.
I've seen plenty of video uploads on van life, camping, travelling, and urban stealth camping. Hell2, touring road acts have been living on the road for generations.

What a great interaction between an officer and an individual. No needless threats, no disrespect, just an officer doing his job, and an individual recognizing it and not taking it personal

As an English person, I was shocked that the Police can fine you for camping there. The Netherlands is the home of camping! In eight years of VanLife™ I never had problems with the Police. Some seaside places in England ban overnight camping, but it's not a Police matter. Best wishes from BrexitLand!

I believe Its just about to become a police matter here in the UK with the new Bill already gone through Parliament. Trespass will become a criminal instead of a civil offence. It gives police the power to move us on, fine us or confiscate our vehicles and possessions. A refusal to comply could result in arrest and court proceedings with a fine up to £2500 or a custodial sentence. Another example of the few spoiling it for the many.
I got a hundred dollar ticket and had to go to court for sleeping in my RV in Orange County Southern California. I asked them if it’s illegal to be homeless and they said no it’s illegal to sleep in your car.
I said so I can legally sleep out in the cold on the sidewalk but I can’t sleep in my safe warm camper? He said basically yes. I was so mad. I was parked in an area where there was no residential and low traffic as well
I amfrom Holland and i know this area, i come There about 3 Times per week for a Nice dogwalk. There are lots of forbidden-signs so you could have known not to Stay there overnight😊

Wait there was people criticizing his cookware, why I didn't see anything out of the ordinary. And I see "vanlife" youtubers make drinks and food all the time, and eat it as well. Who gives a shit. Hell one girl I watch doesn't even use a knife to cut up carrots for her salad. She just bites a bunch of pieces off in her mouth, then drops them in the salad bag, then bites more until the carrot is gone. If they are jumping on him for making coffee and a yogurt bowl, I don't want to know what they would say if they saw Nikki doing that.

Here's my critique of your short story: Well....to tell you the truth, I'm having a hard time finding a negative. Maybe tell us your general location, like which country, or what part of which country, especially since people from around the world will be watching it. I think your content works just fine, plus you come across as a nice person, and who doesn't like nice people? For me, I'd like to know about your awesome camper/van, and Buddy. How long has he been with you? Where did he come from? I don't know if this interests you , but maybe you could think about getting a drone. I'm following Itchy Boots, a Dutch woman riding her motorcycle around the world. She currently has over 966K subs, and her drone shots are some of the best on You Tube. You're doing good work, keep it up.

Can't tell you how liberating it is to DELETE FACEBOOK, TWITTER, and all the rest. It was nice to be free and actually not care what everyone else was having for meals or drinks. Also made me realize that people sucked on all the "social" media when they don't have to face consequences of personal interaction face to face.

I think the fact you can be fined for parking overnight on "Public Lands" is unfair to the public. It is crazy how different areas approach supporting the options to live Houseless. Sadly even if you are in a 200,000 $ camper they give you a hard time. Using the not in our area approach to policing.
Yep, what's worse is that RV camps are often full all year around and even then. Some of them cost just as much or more than an apartment per month.

Yeah it' sounds almost like being homeless is illegal. Sounds crazy. I would understand it if it would be damaging or bothering to other people or environment. Unless you are total ass and don't do leave no trace, I see no reason to don't allow wild (public) camping.
Well... The fact the fine is in euros should help narrow down where he is. Once you have that figured out its pretty sime to figure out where such a fine is imposed for camping overnight in a vehichle with a bit of research.

I completely do a technology detox. No tv. No phones. No radio, nothing. I don’t have any social media anyway except UA-cam but still.
I do this once a year in Taba, Egypt and it’s the BEST thing to do to with our mental and physical health

I was impatient at the beginning because the title had me looking for "what is the legal" but then I realized I was passing up some good footage of actual camper life. So I decided to patiently watch. And I'm glad I did. I think you did a great job and your film with the content and the editing
P. S. I dumped social media several years ago and now I watch people mindlessly walkaround stuck to it ignoring the flesh-and-blood people that are right there next to them. I too could still look that stupid

I agree about social media consuming people. I use it as a tool. I will never click the notification bell and don't get notifications for anything other than email, text, and voice on my phone and computer. When I want to watch youtube, I click on the shortcut for my subscriptions and watch. It doesn't bug me throughout the day to waste my time. Internet forums are great for learning and sharing, but I cut way back on posting. The click baitish title got me, but then I started to enjoy the video and story.
I pretend to be glued to my phone (cant say where im from) because once you look up, everyone asks one question - "how much money do you make" im the top, number#1 capitalistic country in the world, google it (no, not Hong Kong) so even when theres nothing on my screen I look at it to pretend I am,
because it is inhumane to be constantly molested.
Big huge congratulations on getting rid of the majority of the social media! Something many of us struggle with. Many more places than ever now are making it illegal to sleep inside your vehicle. So good luck on your journey and I'll be waiting for more content.

I'm so excited about my new adventures that await me and my puppers! My husband passed away this month and now that he is home with his creator and I'm still here, I'm choosing to buy an RV or something like it and live the rest of my days "free" from the bondage of rent, mortgage, electricity, water, trash, etc., etc., With 6 Grandchildren, 1 & 1/2 Great Grandchildren, I shouldn't have too much of a hard time wondering where to go! Bring the water too a boil on the mocha pot before dropping the coffee in and putting top on. It will help not burn the coffee while the water heats up. I’ve been using mine for years and love it!
After I read your comment I actually tried it, yesterday ! But without success yet. After boiling the water pot is super hot, so I probably didn’t close it properly and coffee spilled everywhere haha. Maybe next time.. Thanks for sharing your tip, Matt 🤙🏼

I love Norway and Bergen in particular. Norway has a lot of similarities with Alaska, my home.
In Alaska it NOT illegal to camp on the side of road, except where posted.

I was confused at first. The police notice was in Dutch and the fine was in euros. They use kroner in Norway. Turns out there’s a Bergen in northern Holland.
I have always loved the bonds between people and their dogs. When you have a great adventure every day... a great life is what you have.

Being a nomad, or gypsy in America has always been difficult.
For some reason the establishment hates that someone could live cheap and mobile.

I lived a full time van life for 6 years and always felt like I was hiding from the law when in the Netherlands. So I often stayed with friends instead.
It’s actually amazing that you were able to stay for three months!
A trick of mine was to stay on top spots during the day and go park in residential areas to sleep. At least I would not be bothered during the night.
I hope you have found your next dream spot and will be able to enjoy life there for a while.

I enjoyed your honesty about your beginnings and where you want to end up when it comes to filmmaking and letting the world know your side of Van life. I thought it was very well put together. And yes I am a dog lover I love dogs and I have one of my own so making sure that you include your puppy in your film always will bring people like me to your channel.

Even before Buddy was even born I knew that getting a dog in my life would help me. I just wasn't aware how yet.. Since he moved in with me, I've met so many people through this little guy. After being road raged by countless trucks ...after all the stress of never knowing when you have to leave....after all the vivid border restrictions and the sourness of other vaners....after years of loneliness and cramped up spaces...I do not regret or miss it...I don't know how I feel about it ilearnt slot but it was a very hard life that ages you rapidly

I, too have given up FB and Twitter. You do realize, however, that You Tube is just another form of social media, especially when you take the time to read the comments. On YT, I mostly follow alternate news and a couple singers I enjoy. We just sold our RV and have given up camping at this point in our lives, but I already miss it! The biggest enemy of Van lifers are other van lifers that are not respectful of the land or people whose property they’re camping on.

I saw when you gave Buddy his food, he waited until you gave him the command to eat. I heard Dutch?? And going by your name, I am going to say my thought was correct...I also give my dog a command to eat, except in German 😁

Would be interesting to know more about him, you, what locations you travel to, and a tour of your van, inside and out, water it holds, gas it uses, if you have solar, just things like that, oh and more scenery where you stop.

I actually taught most commands in English. However, the food command is on of the few in Dutch: "toe maar" (which basically means "go ahead". Buddy is about to turn 8 months and is 1/4 Australian Shepherd, 1/4 Stabyhoun and 1/2 unknown. There's probably be some Border Collie in him too :)

Man nice work! I was actually thinking of getting this course just for a new perspective. So I can see the inspo from it with the style you shot this video. Man I travel in the US with my Winnebago. Sometimes for fun but often for work and we have the same issue. It is hard to find places to camp now. 10 years ago no issue. Now it can be really really really hard. Southern California coast is nearly impossible now without reservations to expensive campgrounds that pretty much suck. And urban camping has become much more challenging. I like your camper too! It is cool as hell!
I admire you trying to improve your storytelling and films. I am a retired teacher who is beginning to make short 2-3 week trips out camping and exploring new places.
I like the balls in the dish trick, I never thought of that. I went and bought a fancy bowl to slow down my dog from eating too fast.

You may choose to get yourself a commercial vehicle to use as you have far greater parking options..keep it looking like a commercial vehicle on the outside..many people use vans or box truck vehicles to park unnoticed..best of luck..

If you have a oven, you should consider making your own granola. I’ve been making healthy granola for a couple years and it is absolutely delicious minus all the additives added by store bought granola. I’m impressed with your rig set up. I’ve been contemplating a older used camper but worried of break downs with a older camper but new ones are too expensive.
Unfortunately I don’t have an oven.. So for now I’ll just have to buy granola. Just remember, even if it breaks down there’s always a way to fix it ! (I think haha). So far I haven’t really had any problems, and I like to keep it that way haha

I camped all over holland (tent + bicycle) ...the only time the Politie talked to me was to check if I was ok...
My home don't roll, yet I downsized & own a little trailer on some land I own . It's in the Cherokee National Forest in the states , I was in the city , a moderate sized 3 bedroom 2 bath house , but to be honest , after the kids left , and being a widow, it was " too much house " and I love my new lifestyle 😀, it's not as stressful and being in the beautiful TN/ N Carolina mtns is just so grounding, the community is amazing and I jive so much more with this kind of connection I have here , I never felt that in the city .

Awesome ! Yea the VW Taro (production 1989-1997) is a rebadge of the Toyota Hilux. So everything’s Toyota, except the emblems 😅 But wow, your rig is amazing too ! These are very rare in Europe. First time looking at your video. I am glad that you show how you normally go through your day. And how you prepare your meals and making your coffee. Most videos I see do not show anything at all regarding their daily routines in van life. It's is good that you take that time to show it. Helps people like me that have no idea what it would be like to live on the road in a very small space, especially with a pet. 😃 Thanks again for sharing your side of van/life. (Camper....etc...)
