Clever. "My grandmother and I could hold entire conversations with each other without ever opening our mouths" Trailer proceeds to tell us a story purely through visuals and music. Not a single line of dialogue uttered. Like this is what it must feel like to have the Shining.
Aparently the actor who played Danny never even saw the movie until 7 years after it was released. As a child actor they never actually told him he was doing a horror film.
It's true. They told him it was a drama, and he didn't see it for several years; and then he saw a heavily edited version, and then the full version years after that when he was old enough. He's now a school science teacher
:( this is one of those awesome movies you're too afraid to watch again cos you don't want to desensitize yourself to it. It's too fresh in my mind but I still really want to watch it again. AAARRGGGHH
I've noticed this before - on blu-ray/high definition some of Danny's toys and the ball are pink - yet the original/genuine colors of these can be seen in the video and dvd versions.
I saw it TODAY for the first time and it's freaking intense at the end. now I just wonder if there's gonna be another horror movie as good as this one... :(
@ InSaNePePsl12: He was selected for the role due to his ability to maintain his concentration for extended periods of time. In the DVD commentary by Garrett Brown and John Baxter, they state that Kubrick was able to film all of Lloyd's scenes without the six-year-old actor realizing he was in a horror movie. He abandoned acting in 1982, and in 2007 became professor of biology at a community college in Kentucky; in December of the same year he became a teacher of sciences in Missouri
With the potential birth of the Stephen King Cinematic Universe, I can see The Shining being re-adapted into a movie. Whoever does it, however, needs to just forget about what Stanley Kubrick did and make the movie their own.
both actually. i dont really think we need to see the same thing remade over and over again. we have seen stephen king's take, and you know how that turned out.
to me hopefully no one try to re-adapt this. stephen king’s re-adaption of the shinning back in the 90s was enough prove of how things that works in the book wont always work on screen. despite being different from the book, its already a masterpiece and a classic. its timeless. most of king’s adaptation that got re-adapted were either filled with whacky or outdated effects, scares, and camera work, thus why directors chooses to re-adapt it using modern days technique in order to appeal to modern day audiences. while on the other hand, kubrick’s the shinning still work and is still effective to today’s audience. eitherway i think people will just compare it to kubricks version because it is that big and the most influential adaptations of king’s work. ever. but i dont mind with other re-adaptation of king’s work like lets say “IT”, when i re-watched the IT mini series, it was so outdated, and its hard for me to find anything scary other than tim curry’s iconic performance. not the case with kubrick’s shinning, it gives goosebumps when i watched it as a kid and it still gives me goosebumps to this day. + with the new doctor sleep movie being released and it ties in with kubricks version, i cant see another re-adaptation coming anytime soon.
As for remakes The Omen is having a prequel (yes a prequel and not a sequel and not that rubbish tv series sequel) which should center around events leading up to Damiens birth. Google it and give me an opinion.
The book sequel (Dr.Sleep ) is very good. I also hope SKing writes a second book sequel which wraps up Danny Torrances story once and for all in which he finds some measure of happiness and settles down!
@bo98smiles That video is based completely on this fucking masterpiece. Not as good as the book, but still my favorite Kubrick film and my favorite ghost/madness movie ever.
Make the villain have a dark past or make the reader fin more horrible things about the person until it gets to the point they think the character is sick

Gripped me.....scared crap out of me even now ive seen the film loads of times.....well done you.
Aparently the actor who played Danny never even saw the movie until 7 years after it was released. As a child actor they never actually told him he was doing a horror film.
This was a gr8 trailer thanks for the upload!!!!
It's true. They told him it was a drama, and he didn't see it for several years; and then he saw a heavily edited version, and then the full version years after that when he was old enough. He's now a school science teacher
Nice work with the trailer, and outstanding picture by Kubrick.

DANG! that is one good trailer.
I I saw this preview at a movie theatre I would definitely be going to the Shining.
seen this movie as a kid in the 90s man talk about bad dreams
The editing is nice but the soundtrack could use more of a slow build, I think the screams start a bit early here.
I saw it TODAY for the first time and it's freaking intense at the end. now I just wonder if there's gonna be another horror movie as good as this one... :(
Esse sim é um Senhor Filme!!! O melhor! O garoto Danny é simplesmente fantástico!! Notal 1000!!!
He was so cute too with that hair of his.

No, he's not an actor anymore, he's a teacher now. This is actually his only film.
I like how you used the music from the ultimate terror trailer of Prometheus.
what a masterpiece
what a fucking awesome trailer..
I just finished the book. SO DIFFERENT. I like both, though.
And I have to admit, I can't picture anyone else as Jack.
this is amazing
great movie awesomeeee
EXCELLENT
meticulous director , scary plot and nicholson's excellent performance makes the shining the greatest film of all time
perfect!
HERE'S JOHNNY
Kubrick's original trailer is a masterpiece of minimalism, but this one might actually have made more people go to the theaters.
god damn the music
This is damn good.
Brilliant
He's a good actor...!
Here's Johnny!
still scares the shit out of me
best horror movie ever
and jack nicholson......well.........he's the man :)

hopefully they wont.
Hopefully they won't remake this movie? Or hopefully they won't try to emulate Kubrick? Because I'd love to see another director's take on this book.

the commercial itself will give you nightmares
For da 1st time, I'm speechless 😶.
Good film but never thought it was as scary as The Omen (1976). Lets hope the sequel (Dr. Sleep) is made into a film soon!
The Omen is among the best for sure...it's a shame you have to specify (1976)....I get tired of these great films being remade
As for remakes The Omen is having a prequel (yes a prequel and not a sequel and not that rubbish tv series sequel) which should center around events leading up to Damiens birth. Google it and give me an opinion.
This moooovie is now avaailable to watch here => twitter.com/498400625a6a4d740/status/795841829614686208 The Shining 1980 HD Trailer
I actually hope it doesn't get made. He hated the Shining
The book sequel (Dr.Sleep ) is very good. I also hope SKing writes a second book sequel which wraps up Danny Torrances story once and for all in which he finds some measure of happiness and settles down!
this reminds me of the clip of the song"the kill" by "30 seconds to mars"
