The Kiwi tag is from when Lucky came down to Australia. He (and Armada) played for the New Zealand crew during our crew battles because they didn't have many players, and afterwards Lucky was pretty much declared an official Kiwi. I was there, awesome weekend.
By far, the hypest friendly I've ever seen. The smiles and clear friendly relationship, combined with the mutual respect and swag level, made this the perfect spacie match to watch. Much respect, boys. Much respect
I have never before seen so much swag concentrated into a single set. All the other sets this tournament felt feeble compared to this display complete nuttiness.
I think the M2K vs Leffen in winners finals was second behind this set. But I'm pretty biased, cuz I'm a marth main and when a marth is stylin(M2K, PPU, The Moon, Ken, PPMD etc.) I just freak out so idk. that set was amazing with the style, but this set is like when u play ur bud and all you're trying to do is swag on each other. And when these 2 players do it, it's unreal.
Yo, you can see in mango's face he feels like he lost. It doesn't matter if he win the match, it's the crowd he likes to own, and the style winner was lucky this game ajajaj. TLDR: Mango's face of "defeat" is funny.
I feel like when lucky grabbed mang0 at the edge during the last game, last stock, there was a moment of hesitation where they both knew lucky could have back thrown and gimped mang0 but decided not to, almost like it was lucky saying I'll let you win, to mang0.
man... no matter how many times i watch this set its always like the first time i watched it live, breathless every time. its so good its just so good man
I didn't give Lucky enough credit going into this. Giving Mango a run for his money is seriously something to be proud of. AND THOSE PLAYS. THOSE PLAYS.
Facing Lucky first set of loser's was the best thing that could have happened to Mango this tournament. Whenever M2K is the first person he plays after losing to someone, he's done. But facing Lucky, he got his swag back, was taken back to his Cali roots, and relaxed a little which was perfect.
Look at the player cams after every kill. They are talking to each other every stock smiling. I just picture them saying “gotcha” and “watch this” and stuff like that right before every kill. Wholesome stuff!
Smash 4 Ninjaa That was on a computer. Anyone can combo computers. Pro players defense game is too good for you to have even gotten past the nair you landed on roy.
Grant R U clearly havent seen top level combos. You are naming base combos and ignoring the eons of improvised combos by well established players you moron from fuckyourselves ville.
lucky, i am proud of you: you went so good over the years, and now this amazing play against mango at big house 4. we all know, you are not mango, but awesome play, keep on doing that shit
We owe a great deal of Melee's continued existence to the hypefather, Bobby Scarnewman. Anyone can go back and watch legendary matches commentated by this dude who fuckin passionately loves this game.
Mango should give Lucky a share of the prize money for taking that fsmash at 12:49 and not back-throwing at 13:02, because he had a damn good chance of sending Mango home right there.
***** Oh, of course. But as it stands, those twenty or so seconds were the closest Mango came to being out of the tournament (well, besides M2K's decision to be stubborn about picking Marth), and the two decisions I listed had a huge impact on the outcome of those twenty seconds.
***** Whether or not Lucky CARED about those decisions has nothing to do with the point. M2K 3-0'd Mango with Sheik in winner's semis. In grand finals, he refused to pull out Sheik at all. I don't *know* that he would have beaten Mango in grand finals if he'd pulled out the Sheik, but it's at least fair to conclude that he'd have done better than one win (on FD, no less) per set.
MathMage You really hate Mango don't you? Do you not realize in all three games, Mango got him to the LAST stock? They were very close games. So Mango didn't get destroyed. I agree that he might've done better with Sheik, who knows. Mango would adapt though, and he was playing very well in Losers Bracket. A lot better. All I know is the better player won the tournament, and that was Mango. Glad my second favourite Melee player got second place of course too.
Brandon Hatfield Boner shine sounds like what it is. The falco player gets a boner because when an opponent doesn't DI. His shine combos off the ground are mindlessly easy. And free as fuck
I've watched this set so many times and just noticed this Bradley Cooper looking mofo casually chanting Lucky and photographing at the end lmao no big deal
12:35 lucky went god mode for like 8 seconds. definitely one of the best sets i've ever watched. and i think it was like they said, lucky at the end of the day knew mango could go farther so after he took the lead in the last game, he chilled, and came back with the noob recovery that set up mangos forward smash to end it.
This is lucky at his best, and it is so raw. Almost every tournament a top player says in an interview that the toughest part of going to tournies is playing at your best. Almost everyone (mango included) says that Mango just shows up and plays better at big tournies and plays to his potential. On the other side you have Lucky who doesn't play so well at tournies, and is constantly talked about being one of the worst tournament performers playing right now. Two things that stood out to me. 1) He was playing lights out. 2) He played insanely good against Mango (probably because he feels comfortable against Mango. Toph's comment at the very beginning makes absolutely no sense that Lucky has a "mental block" against Mango. In the interview Mango says he has played Lucky in a bajillion hours of play (let's just go with a lot). I think the fact that they know each other so well, and the fact that they are friends meant there was less pressure on Lucky so he played well. I hope he can continue good tournament play in the future. I think this set (and others at this tournament) prove that if Lucky brings his A game to the table he can compete and beat anyone playing right now.
this was a sick ass set... and lucky deserved this. It's gotta be hard playing with Mango all these years, practicing the same and never getting the results like Mango did. Awesome tourney Lucky I hope you have more of this in you.
Scar is right. Mango knew Lucky should have beaten him. In my opinion Lucky threw his last 2 stocks, the first by giving Mango the kill with an fsmash and the second by upthrowing at the edge instead of back throwing, and then recovering for the easiest edgeguard in the book.
It's not just the Smash DI, it's also because it's possible to buffer roll/dodge out of it if the drill is staled at all or if one of the hits of the move is not out on the frame before landing.
Last great melee tourney and you can't change my mind. Everyone's smiling, nothing boring, nothing campy, and nothing but hype and love for this sick game. Different times...
If anyone can read lips what does Lucky say to Mango at 13:23? I feel like it's something along the lines of you better fucking win now. This is going down as one of my favorite sets of all times. I'm not a huge Fox fan, but after this set I didn't care who Mango used. I wanted him to win so bad.
Its hard to remember with how sick the moment was rofl But I do know he told me he was sorry he lost to m2k because I might have actually beat him with how I was playing and then I think i said something like oh well youd better win lool
There's 1 thing that really makes me scratch my head, other than the match itself. When the match is over. they stand up and have a small talk, then turn back. At 13:23 after talking to Joey, Mango makes a really weird face, as if he was like: Ugh this guy. lol I hope I'm wrong.
Armadas face at the end lol. "I do not understand. Did Joey not lose? Why chanting?"
+WakeSideLife Considering he played winner, he probably really wanted Lucky to win.
CinderGamer lol you're not wrong.
+WakeSideLife I was literally going make the same post, good shit man
Armada is always straight business when hes about to play
No, it's the face of a man who realizes he has to play Mango for 4th
"Whoever the fuck said that that set in Florida was the best match ever, you were sadly mistaken"
The Kiwi tag is from when Lucky came down to Australia. He (and Armada) played for the New Zealand crew during our crew battles because they didn't have many players, and afterwards Lucky was pretty much declared an official Kiwi. I was there, awesome weekend.
13:23 Mango: Holy shit that was too close.
Mango murder face

By far, the hypest friendly I've ever seen. The smiles and clear friendly relationship, combined with the mutual respect and swag level, made this the perfect spacie match to watch. Much respect, boys. Much respect
I know what you're saying, but that was no friendly. Lol
Go watch Hax$ vs Westballz at Super Nebulus 4. 100x the space set
@sareaper69 just finished game 2 of that set and I can't even watch more. This set is far better lol
This is tournament, not friendlies.
Legit high level/stylin' play. Probably the epitome of competitive Melee to me.
The face Mango makes at 13:23 he's surprised he won. I think he was kinda scared Lucky was gonna beat him.
+Austin Brandt i think that is him caught off guard, for a second he thought it was over
If you look closely, the moment his face changes is when he looks to where Armada is waiting for the next game.
Best set I ever watched.
what about the lord vs s2j lol
Darrell Marks Which yoshi set?
I love mango he's a great player, but watch Abate Vs. S2J at BH5.That set was fuckin crazy.
+Bandit ImaClubYou try Westballz vs SFAT at Super Smash Sunday GF
I posted this a long time ago... Please
Hahaa everyone is all happy at the end and armada is just there with the most serious face xD
What a good friend Lucky is, letting Mango win like that.
I have never before seen so much swag concentrated into a single set. All the other sets this tournament felt feeble compared to this display complete nuttiness.
I think the M2K vs Leffen in winners finals was second behind this set. *****
implying the moon is good
MrArtless1 he's pretty good man, he beat lucky
MrArtless1 The moon is damn good...
***** You mean that you aren't supposed to swag at all times no matter who your'e playing?
This set embodies everything beautiful about melee
Yo, you can see in mango's face he feels like he lost. It doesn't matter if he win the match, it's the crowd he likes to own, and the style winner was lucky this game ajajaj. TLDR: Mango's face of "defeat" is funny.
Best spacies set of the year.
I feel like when lucky grabbed mang0 at the edge during the last game, last stock, there was a moment of hesitation where they both knew lucky could have back thrown and gimped mang0 but decided not to, almost like it was lucky saying I'll let you win, to mang0.
lucky actually brings up this exact moment in the first episode of mango & lucky's new podcast
man... no matter how many times i watch this set its always like the first time i watched it live, breathless every time. its so good its just so good man
I didn't give Lucky enough credit going into this. Giving Mango a run for his money is seriously something to be proud of. AND THOSE PLAYS. THOSE PLAYS.
idk why but mango's face after he talked to lucky after the set reminded me of jack sparrow
I came buckets to this match
I love that these two were childhood friends. Best set ever.
love how they're so far away from norwalk, but it just feels like another day at the crib.
Facing Lucky first set of loser's was the best thing that could have happened to Mango this tournament. Whenever M2K is the first person he plays after losing to someone, he's done. But facing Lucky, he got his swag back, was taken back to his Cali roots, and relaxed a little which was perfect.

Watching this live had me on the edge of my seat GODDAMN WHAT A GREAT SET
lol Armada at the end is like "I dont care about Lucky I just want to play my dang game".
And smash 4 people are jizzing themselves over two-hit combos
Haha best most true comment Ive seen xD
Ooh, I almost cut myself on that edge.
Smash 4 Ninjaa That was on a computer. Anyone can combo computers. Pro players defense game is too good for you to have even gotten past the nair you landed on roy.
Smash 4 Ninjaa Its possible in brawl as well but high on the spectrum of super unlikely
Grant R U clearly havent seen top level combos. You are naming base combos and ignoring the eons of improvised combos by well established players you moron from fuckyourselves ville.
The best set of melee this year.
Melee at its truest from right here. Fox vs Falco
I don't know what to do with myself after this set and Leffen vs. Armada. Best smash tournament ever. Such high level play across the board.
lucky, i am proud of you: you went so good over the years, and now this amazing play against mango at big house 4. we all know, you are not mango, but awesome play, keep on doing that shit
We owe a great deal of Melee's continued existence to the hypefather, Bobby Scarnewman. Anyone can go back and watch legendary matches commentated by this dude who fuckin passionately loves this game.
Probably my favorite set of the whole tournament.
between games 4 and 5 when the camera cuts to toph holding scar lmfaoooooooo golden age of melee
Mango should give Lucky a share of the prize money for taking that fsmash at 12:49 and not back-throwing at 13:02, because he had a damn good chance of sending Mango home right there.

yo he would have won the whole set if he didn't hand mango that charity stock on yoshis
MathMage You really hate Mango don't you? Do you not realize in all three games, Mango got him to the LAST stock? They were very close games. So Mango didn't get destroyed. Jesse Bwass No, I don't hate Mango. Mostly I was just awed by the level of Melee on display.
6:56 Lucky ledgedashes and uptilts at the exact same frame mango does, and mango laughs :)
Some TAS shit, these guys are telepathic
That was possibly the most intense match of smash I've ever watched
That was the most intense set of friendlies i've ever seen!
I've watched that last combo on game 3 so many times. It's so clean and crisp.
I love how animated Lucky is while he plays. It makes it look like he's having so much fun
This is one of my favorite sets. Joe is really freaking good, keep trying bro. Love both of these guys so much
this is one of my favorite sets of all time.
Amazing set to watch. It's like watching a high level friendly
One of my favourite sets by far
7:36〜beautiful combo!!
Such a crazy set. That collusion on the up throw though damn.
most fun set of Melee everrrrr
Zhu's Friendly took 12 years to make. It's the Boyhood of Melee music videos.
Oh my goodness...Mango game 1 was moving so incredibly fast..I.....I...just....Wow I couldn't even keep up with it.
I still hold this top 8 to be the best ever and this set to be the best one
WHAT THE FUCK IS A BONER SHINE SCAR.
When you shine someone and they don't DI at all and they go straight up
***** I find that hard to believe considering how pro esports scar is lol.
Brandon Hatfield Boner shine sounds like what it is. The falco player gets a boner because when an opponent doesn't DI. His shine combos off the ground are mindlessly easy. And free as fuck
I love seeing players having fun with each other and laughing, makes the game so much better to watch!!
I've watched this set so many times and just noticed this Bradley Cooper looking mofo casually chanting Lucky and photographing at the end lmao no big deal
Thanks for this match, holy shit
'in melee we LOVE to be cool. even our top players, even in tournament, even when there's thousands of dollars on the line, we LOVE swaggin.'
cue 2017
12:35 lucky went god mode for like 8 seconds. definitely one of the best sets i've ever watched. and i think it was like they said, lucky at the end of the day knew mango could go farther so after he took the lead in the last game, he chilled, and came back with the noob recovery that set up mangos forward smash to end it.

Also did I mention Toph didn't make any sense?
8:50 not true scar... I don't remember who, but there's a Roy combo video that says right in it something along the lines of "7 years in the making"
that's the one
Lucky is my all time favorite fox player.. He just outs so much heart into the character and learns so well on the fly
"It needs more up-air."
-Christopher Walken
This set was so hype
this was a sick ass set... and lucky deserved this. It's gotta be hard playing with Mango all these years, practicing the same and never getting the results like Mango did. Awesome tourney Lucky I hope you have more of this in you.
10 years and 1 day later lucky gets his revenge in loser's quarters
Probably the best Falco vs Fox set ever played.
probably the best set I've ever watched
that was one of the best bunch of matches ive ever seen
this is the greatest set of all time
still holds up
Should be in a museum at this point
wow that was a good set. i'm glad I decided to watch through bh4.
Scar is right. Mango knew Lucky should have beaten him. In my opinion Lucky threw his last 2 stocks, the first by giving Mango the kill with an fsmash and the second by upthrowing at the edge instead of back throwing, and then recovering for the easiest edgeguard in the book.
+Baby Bop I don't think he did it on purpose, he just wasn't thinking straight.
+LickOnion He did it on Purpose lol. We all know that for a fact!
13:24 what was that face mang0 made
+sasuke kishimoto the "Holy shit I almost lost"
I saw it too so funny hahaha
+uplm I was about to comment that lol.
Excuse me, but how to you favorite a UA-cam video?
+LickOnion Click the "add to" button. It has a large + sign beside it. It's right underneath the uploaders thumbnail.
13:33 Armada looking somber in the background
I forgot how sick this set was
lmfao @ armada's face at 13:33
Someone knows why Toph says drill grab (fox on falco) is almost guaranteed but not really?
smash di the drill
Yeah, you can smash DI out of it but it's pretty hard.
It's not just the Smash DI, it's also because it's possible to buffer roll/dodge out of it if the drill is staled at all or if one of the hits of the move is not out on the frame before landing.
Lucky totally threw those last 2 stocks on purpose lol
Of course lol. Lucky can honestly read Mango very well haha.
Last great melee tourney and you can't change my mind. Everyone's smiling, nothing boring, nothing campy, and nothing but hype and love for this sick game. Different times...
No way you said this after Apex 2015 LOL
possibly one of the best sets
This set represents the whole melee community. :D
Timeless set.
I have to agree, easily best set I've ever seen.
Best melee set of all time
Yo, this is seriously one of the best spacie dittos i've ever seen. mostly cause Joey actually bops Mango pretty bad on some stocks.
See Lucky playing it's so hype, I just need to grab my pad right away and try some of that sick shit.
One of the best sets of all time, I guess this counts as Rap x3?
this set is so good
If anyone can read lips what does Lucky say to Mango at 13:23? I feel like it's something along the lines of you better fucking win now.
This is going down as one of my favorite sets of all times. I'm not a huge Fox fan, but after this set I didn't care who Mango used. I wanted him to win so bad.
it looks like he says something like "yeah, that was good". I do feel like lucky let up on Mang0 cause he knew he would win
Its hard to remember with how sick the moment was rofl
But I do know he told me he was sorry he lost to m2k because I might have actually beat him with how I was playing and then I think i said something like oh well youd better win lool
thelegendofLuCKy You played great man. Nicely done was rootin for you the whole time
thelegendofLuCKy the double amsa tech and the wall jump shine made me cream.
thelegendofLuCKy This was absolutely sick. I found new respect for you from this set.
Willhelm Scream at 7:38
This match is so sick.
13:20, lucky's face realizing he should've won. Instead he throws mango onto the stage cuz they the homies
LMFAO that face at 13:23
I wanted toph to say at the end, "What a RUSSSSHHHHHHHH".
There's 1 thing that really makes me scratch my head, other than the match itself. When the match is over. they stand up and have a small talk, then turn back. At 13:23 after talking to Joey, Mango makes a really weird face, as if he was like: Ugh this guy. lol I hope I'm wrong.
Anthony B Hahahaha yeah that sounds more likely to happen if we're talking about Mang0 :P
Mang0 is like luckys best friend.
THEYRE JUST STYLING I LOVE THIS LOL
HOLY MOLY!!!! This Tech Skill is amazing!
I love how mango just changes from happy to seemingly super pissed at the end
That was an absolute joy
Did anyone see DJ Nintendos face at the end of the set? He looks so unimpressed lol.
anyone else laugh at the end when we see armadas face?
10:00
What a legendary set
