Ballistics gel testing for these bullet reviews would be nice. Especially for hunting bullets where terminal performance is key. Love these vids and can't wait to see the 6 dasher build.
A 300 PCR rifle is on the wishlist for CO elk this year. Not sure if it will happen, but always great to see @gavintoobe sharing this info and knowledge. Keep the content coming, really enjoying it.
Just got my .300 win mag dialed in last fall with the Berger 215 hybrid, it will be hard to beat group size, but I was limited to a range of 300 yards. Unfortunately no Elk showed up to volunteer a live test.
I am a big fan of Berger bullets for hunting. I am going to try the Berger 205 gr and 185 gr Classic Hunter. Out of my new 300 wby rifle. For a upcoming spring bear hunt. Also working a load up for my new 280AI rifle. The 168gr Classic Hunter bullet. To take on the bear hunt to.
I have used a 300 winmag of elk and mule deer out to 400 yards . But these new bullets look interesting. Sounds like there quality control is fantastic even on a early run.
I don't hunt big game, so this bullet isn't for me. I bought some of the Magnum powder and it works pretty good. I loaded 230g SMK (300PRC) and the results are great. The best part is that you can actually buy this powder. :)
I am interested in this Berger 205gr Ultimate Hunter bullets loaded for 30-06. I have used Federal Premium factory ammo using the Berger Hybrid Hunter 168gr on light game such as pronghorn and the results were great. I get sub m.o.a. groups with these out of my Winchester Model 70 and I am considering loading heavier Berger hunter bullets for larger game. I enjoyed Guy's video on Hornady 212gr ELDx for the 30-06 and I hope you will consider testing Berger's 205gr 30-Cal Elite Hunter Bullets in 30-06 as well.
Ive wondered for a while if anyone has ever tried marking the brass case in the 3 spots of the circumference, to line up with the orientation of the primer anvil. So you could load the bullet in the barrel the same way each time. With the triangle of the primer anvils oriented the same way. So possible variance in the flash is minimized. Before it hits the powder.
Agree. I use the 230 gr Hybrid Target in my 300 RUM for hunting and shooting steel and they work great. I will try the 245 gr bullet when I use up my 230 gr bullets.
I’ve ran the 200 grain ELDX in my lr308, they did fine. Not much room for powder with them seated to 2.820” though. If you could seat them out past mag length and single load em, you’d be in business.
Might be a close shave with 11" twist, their SG calculator says 1.35 @ 2500fps. But even without compromising the BC, trajectory-wise the 180gr Elite Hunter seems to be a decent choice for 308Win. 180gr @ 2650fps seems doable from a 24" with powders like RS60, AA2520, 203B,... Advetised BC G7 is .295
Very interesting. I’m new to reloading and want to work up a load for my 300 WBY. I’m hunting mostly white tails with it and was going to stick with 180 grain bullets because that was I shot in factory loads.
180’s should be fine. Might consider getting a short stubby 180-200 grain bullet, that way it sheds some velocity before impacting. A close up shot at high velocity (especially with a rapidly expanding non bonded projectile) is going to make a mess of things.
I see you are pushing the "print" key on your FX 120i to record your measurements. Where can I find out how to hook this up to my computer so I can stop recording things manually? Thanks in advance.
@@Ultimatereloader Hey Gavin, can you tell me which serial to USB adapter that you found that works? Sorry to be a pain but the one I got doesn't seem to work.
These look like otm or hpbt which tend to fragment like match bullets which this bullet looks like. Id be interested in seeing how they stand up to ballistics jelly. I prefer bonded expanding bullets for hunting personally but for smacking steel at long distance these could be an option for alot of folks.
I just bought Berger 30 cal 180 gr Elite Hunter bullets to try reloading. This is my first time ever reloading. In my 308 win, I measured a COAL of 3.037". My magazine length (internal measurement) is only 2.879", and I read that other people just seat these bullets at mag length. Even if I use 2.879", I would be starting with 0.158" of jump, which sounds like a lot to me. What are your thoughts on this? Have you tried the Elite Hunters in 308 win?
Thank you Sir. Are these Hunter bullets in line for gel test in 30 cal? I run a 308 or 7mm mag for whitetail & my son used a 30/06. We hope to get out west soon for elk. Using ELDX in 7mag right now. 30/06 is basic Hornady Interlock. Thank you.
Awesome video. Question, have you ever heard of A.R.M. American Reserve Munitions based out of Idaho? What are your thoughts on them and their ammo? More specifically have you heard or tried their predator bullets and what are your thoughts?
Cool! I was just researching 30 cal bullets for my top secret new rifle build. It's gonna be a short action, extra long barrel, tight twist toy...it's okay to be jealous.
hey gavin do you know if they are bonded? i was on a hunt two years ago with a buddy and he used the hybrids and they absolutely fell apart in his elk. very disappointed.
Very cool bud! Seems like another good bullet for the 300 PRC! I am more interested in the Ramshot Magnum powder. Have you done a detailed video on it and how it performs? One powder f or 6.5 PRC and 300 PRC sure seems interesting. Right now H1000 can do that for me, but wanted a tad more velocity. 8133 seems good in 300 PRC but a week bit slow for 6.5 PRC. N565?
@@gregs9187 I like H1k so far the best in 6.5 PRC... and RL26 gets the good velocities in 300 prc. I have not tried n565 but it looks good! Been trying to get demo to try from Berger/Capstone (importer)
You really need to use better powder. You have an awesome powder measure and you are wasting its capabilities on a crappy temperature sensitive ball powder.
6.5 creedmore is going to need all the help it can get to shoot a mile consistently. If you are looking to hit a target a couple of times now an again you might be ok, but for consistent performance you will need more horsepower than 6.5 creedmore. Research transonic bullet stability for more information why 6.5 creedmore could run into some problems. If I was going to try it, I would look at a 26 or 28" barrel.
Seems like it has been discussed, but I agree with the guys saying 26". should give you that slight FPS increase over test barrels, which are usually 24".

@@Ultimatereloader I just completed a hog hunt last Wednesday using my AR10 in 308 with 110 grain Hornady lead Free bullets. The starting load of 46.1 grains of H322 was devastating. The bullet entered the cranial cavity and did not exit. The pig was shot at around 100 yards and was instantly killed. No bullet was recoverable from the shot. The load was over pressure for my AR10 as my AR is apparently over gassed. The case showed an ejector swipe but the primer didn't look too bad.
