Maignan actually shouldn’t have had a red card in that match. As a goalkeeper, I know that it is allowed to stick your knee up for protection. Mistake on the ref.
So, ref the Ferdinand one. This was the FA Cup quarter final (07-08) where the mighty Portsmouth beat Utd 1-0 at Old Trafford. Milan Baros won the penalty resulting in their keeper getting red carded. Muntari scored the only goal. Ferdinand didn’t have to do much in goal as Portsmouth literally parked the bus after going 1-0 up. I don’t remember us actually attacking them again. We went on to win the cup……… and then proceeded to lose all our players, have multiple point deductions, followed by multiple relegations and multiple owners. At one point, we were about to go bust until the fans bought our own club. We scrapped survival in League 2, but went on to win the league a few seasons later. We are now looking strong at the top of League 1, fighting to get back into the Championship. Being a Pompey fan is a literal roller coaster, it can be frustrating and maddening, but never dull. (Interesting side point, we actually got to the cup final in the 09-10 season too, beating our arch rivals on the way. By the final, we were already relegated and in administration. We lost that final to a Drogba wonder free kick for Chelsea). PUP
To be honest. What is the alternative? Play without a goalkeeper? You would put anybody in goal in such a situation. So you pick the player who feels most comfortable at that moment. Many outfield players have played in goal in training or as a kid. Nobody expects a good performance anyways.
You missed a big one.. Recently Brighton captain, Lewis Dunk went in goal. With his insane long passing, that was the best goalkick I have ever seen. He also didnt conceded that game.
I remember a Champions League qualifier severel years ago, where the goalkeeper was sent off right before the penalty shootout, and the outfield player who had to go in as goalkeeper saved two penalties and they went through

I am a keeper too and that is true but only for protection not to hurt people
They scared that they turn into OLIVER KAHN!!!
True
the point is he kneed him before getting the ball and did DOGSO. If he had switched the order it would've been fine
Pele's father was a professional GK in Brazil, and through most of Pele's career, he was considered Brazil's BEST GK

Mladen Petric did save a penalty ca. 2006 in an UEFA Cup game. But I think it was only the one penalty.
