    how is there a moment because of Fbc? not sure how that causes rotation

      I suggest doing a review of basic statics. Fbc has a moment arm that will cause the gate to rotate CCW. It will act to open the gate.

    i think thst force on ab should be xero as there is no fluid above it

      You are incorrect. Imagine if you drilled a hole in surface AB -- clearly water would jet upwards. There is an upward pressure on AB. Listen (again?) to the explanation that starts at about 2:35
