Taxes are higher in provinces like Quebec, Ontario or British Columbia then they are in provinces like Alberta or Saksatchewan. Also like everywhere a person will pay more in a big city, suburb or a small town near a big city or suburb than in a small town out in the countryside.
I've had no long wait times waiting for government services.
When I need to go to a government office, they have an efficient waiting line "take a number" system. I've never needed to wait longer than 40 minutes for a visit.
When I call a government help phone line, the wait is only ever between 10 minutes to an hour. Also the phone lines offer to let you hang up and then receive a call back if the call waiting time is more than 30 minutes.
Also hospital wait times all depends on where a person lives in Canada. Immediate life saving surgery is performed as soon as a person gets delivered to the ER room. Rural communities are more spread out than urban communities. Many regions invested in helicopter ambulances for this reason.
For elective surgeries, a person will undoubtedly have to wait longer for an elective surgery in a small community out in the boonies than if they live in or near a big city, just like in pretty much any country.
