really great, efficient review. I appreciated how thorough you were about not just how packable it is, but describing your experience with it in your own words. To anyone who puts a lot of thought into packing efficiently, and has had experience with similar products you made so much sense describing each of the features of the bag that made me feel really confident I understood its quality and user experience. Thank you!
I recommend just getting a collapsible water bottle for travel such as the ones from Vapur. Much lighter and easier to travel with. I generally prefer the cleaner designs of packs like this Bellroy or the one I have from Cotopaxi.
@@wingeren That's totally valid but water bottle pockets can also offer a lot of extra flexibility whether it's to carry a tripod, an umbrella, snacks, that random duty free purchase etc. Some elastic ones sit flush with the bag and are hardly visible when not in use 🙂
This is basically the backpack I wanted out of the Bellroy Transit backpack though still no lift-loaders or hip belt. I found the 28L Transit almost too heavy to carry comfortably when fully loaded plus the internal waterbottle pocket ate into the main space. This fixes a lot of problems that bag has, including the sensible additions of a side handle and the luggage pass thru. I'd be hesitant to get the 38L without the extra support but the 30L could probably be a much better alternative to the 28L Transit.
Just bought a Transit backpack from with discount. I was little frustrated when I saw the release video, but then happy when you said it doesn’t fit big shoes. I’m able to fit my 14 shoes horizontally without issues on the transit backpack 😅
Great review as always! I'm waiting for this bag to arrive, I chose the clay colour 30L. I have a white duffel bag by Bellroy and....no white bags any more, can't keep 'em clean with my kind of use. I'll be mostly using this bag for gym and commuting when it happens the same day. Great with the clam shell opening and mesh pockets inside. I also own a Venture Ready 26L in clay colour and although i love the craftsmanship and the feel, it's not as practical with that big opened compartment. I use that one for music accessories when going out for gigs and it's sturdy, sits great on my back, great bag.
I like the organization pockets, even though I use packing cubes because it’s nice to not have the packing cubes fall out when you unzip the bag so it’s a win-win
To me, an ideal travel backpack must have 2 water external water bottle pockets - 1 for a water bottle, 1 for a small umbrella. A built-in rain cover that comes out (like a hiking backpack) would be excellent, but at the very least, a way to grab an umbrella without having to unzip and dig one out, in the rain ...
@@kurtthecat3995 Even if the zippers themselves don't have a locking mechanism, you can buy zipper "locks", that are really just meant to slow down anyone trying to open the zipper, so they don't actually "lock", the just serve as a bridge holding both zippers together.

I would use this for carry on w/ clothes and toiletries to keep it light and loaded with stuff that doesn’t need much structure and pair it with a 15L wonder tote personal item for my gadgets for short trip travel and pack a sling in the 30L. Ordered one to check it out.
@@newagain9964 For you maybe. A 16" MBP, 12.9 iPad Pro, full size keyboard, mouse, tech kit, travel cpap, dopp kit, along with other odds and ends adds up very quickly. I will not use a pack that sags down my back. Just my opinion.
This is the bag that I've been waiting for; our carry-on allowance in Australia is 7kg, so every gram counts. They've done away with the unnecessaries and kept it basic and lite.
I would be worried about the attachment points in the bottom of the straps failing over time. Not a bag for me, because of this and the internal organization, but a step in the good direction from Bellroy.
Great review! Personally, I am fine with putting my water bottle inside the pack. It looks better, imo. I often need to open a bag to get a wallet or other item, so simply using a zipper to access water is no problem. Looks sleeker and less touristy, too. Definitely thinking about getting this one!
@@VolkerHelmich No this is just looks like a nearly identical product. Same pockets, same interior, and same opening method. Only difference is where the laptop sits.
I feel like AER's Travel Pack 3 Small only being $230 has basically made all travel packs around $200 irrelevant. No one had the function and features that they do. Bellroy could have put load lifters, water bottle pocket, and a hip belt option on this and competed all day.
How water resistant and durable is that fabric compared to the one on the Transit Backpack? The other durability question is the attachment for the straps at the bottom. They seem small/thin so I'd be worried about them breaking.
Eh. Cotopaxi downgraded the materials for the new allpas by half. The allpa has a weird void on the inside of the front panel, there’s like 1-1.5L of space behind the front pocket…i guess that’s the purpose of the new front pocket….but then they deleted the side pocket?
@@misstubbie1313 it’s not the fabric I hated. It was the construction of the bag itself. The straps were so awful. They kept sliding down past my shoulders for some reason. I get it’s a lite packable style backpack, but it looked awful and super flimsy if it wasn’t at least halfway packed out. Anything you put in it will sink down the center of the bag which causes an appearance of a huge dent into the bag. This white color from the lite line gets stained quite easily. And it isn’t easy to clean. This is coming from using their lite pouches.
And if the straps are similar fabric to the lite ready it catches BO really easily

Can the material withstand the weight if the bag is heavy?
